edge on the hermes won't connect while you're using the phone.

For some reasons, I am having problems connecting to their GPRS server when the connection bars are full(4 bars on the phone). I am using the MDA with cingular service, but I am sure the settings are correct. I've even installed a 8125 rom and used it's settings..
I live in houston, and work a few miles from basicly it's business center, and a few more miles from downtown. Cingular has excelent coverage in my area, all Edge, and G3 is also availiable.
The problem is that I am having no problems with the phone side, but the internet keeps disconnecting or not reading at all? How can this be? Aren't they on the same band? I have to "search for network" in the phone settings to get GPRS to connect, but then the internet will only work for a few minutes and stop working again. The E symbol with the transfer animation is still there, through the animation is not active, meaning the phone is connected right? So why isn't my internet working? I am really at a lost of what to do.,
Is this a problem with mobile internet or is it my phone?
The bars only tell you something about the carrier.
So the carrier is good, it doesn't mean the GPRS/UMTS in working properly.
You still can face problems like no IP-adres, Gateway, DNS etc.
Occasionally I have the same probs in Holland, but then I disconnect/reconnect is sufficient to resolve the problem.
(disconnect by holding the "end call" button for a couple of seconds.
Maybe you have some interference in the neighbourhood?
Try another part of town, if that doesn't help, visit a service center and see if they have a device that can connect normally.
Or maybe you know somebody with a working Universal to test at your place?
If there was an interferencem would it only affect certain carriers or all GSM carriers?
Also, the holding the end call button doesn't seem to work in disconnecting and reconnecting?
I am very new to this forum. Well, I exchanged my 8125 and received a newer one interestingly updated with ROM version 2.25.11.1 WWE, ROM date 5/11/06, Radio Version 02.25.11, Protocol version 4.1.13.12, ExtROM version 2.25.11.102. Very fast, especially with connecting to router. I had problem with connecting to my private network with my previous phone so I called warranty people and got the old phone exchanged. Then newer version is lot better. Another funny thing I noticed is, I can not connect to my private router, when I don't have any service. This means that Cingular ROM has something that prevents the phone to connect to private router if we are out of the service area. In another way, we have to have data plan ( pay per use or whatever ) to use the wi-fi inbuilt in our phones. Which I think is not fair. What if you are out of the coverage area and you still want to get connected to wifi.
I am just wondering, is there any way to get over with this. I can assume that if we unlock the phone then there shouldn't be any restrictions as I expressed.
actually you dont have to have the phone part on. i turn flight mode on on my 8125 and i have cingular too and it'll hook up to our wireless network with no problem. thats what i use to listen to sirius on my phone. i turn it off that way it wont bother me or the music. you just have to mess around with the settings.
I have the 8125 with the latest ROM. Before I had to do a hard reset, for unrelated reasons, I had to delete the GPRS connection in order to get my wifi to connect. After doing the hard reset I've had no problems connecting to my wifi, even with the radio on, and without having to disable GPRS. Phone and all other functionality is working exactly as it should.
My phone is fine on Edge but as soon as I connect it to Active Sync, it looses its Edge and uses WiFi. Once I remove the active sync, it never connects back to Edge unless I reboot the phone. It keeps saying it cannot dial wap.cingular. I thought the phone was supposed to auto connect on its own to the best connection and switch back. I checked with Cingular and all my settings are what they should be and the Cingular tech had no idea.

Mine does the same - it finds itself without the reset though. It just takes it a little bit.
As of sometime this past weekend (March 10/11) my GPRS data connection suddenly stopped working. I am using an old AT&T SIM card, connecting using the same AT&T GPRS connection that I have used successfully for a couple of years already - and for about 2 months on the Trinity.
Now when I try to connect, I get the message ""the answering modem has disconnected". I have been though all alternative (Cingular) GPRS settings without any difference and ATT/Cingular assures me that nothing has changed on my account. I have done soft resets, full resets, etc., but I just can't get reconnected. The phone works fine. Any ideas?
Does anyone using the unlocked T-MO USA HD2 on ATT, experience any problems with the connection. Mine sometimes says it can't connect, and then connects anyway. If anyone is having any other troubles like this, insight would be appreciated.
I guess I will dialogue with a fellow Indiananan. LOL. Anyway yes, you will have connection issues with at&t at times. Whenever I soft reset my phone all connections will be lost and I have to reset all connections again which is a hassle. It doesnt reset all the time, but its definitely annoying when it does. After reboot you have to wait about 15-30 seconds sometimes just for it to connect to edge or manually go into comm manager and select data connection to on. Hope this helps as you didnt explain specific connection issue.
Well thank you, this does explain some things. When I reset, whether it be a soft reset or power up the phone, I usually go into COMM manager and initiate the EDGE connection, but you say that if give a few minutes it will connect automatically? Correct?
Yes it most certainly will. It a hassle because Im paranoid im going to miss a call, etc during the time its trying to initiate with EDGE.
yea bro i was going through the same thing as you, heres the solution erase all the net work connections that you have (tmobile data,Tmobile internet,Tmobile mms etc.) then install the Att media net and mms cab and reset your device , then go back into netwrok connections and choose media net as the main way to connect to the internet using a private network and a non private network (settings>menu>all settings>connections>connections>advanced>select network)

Will doing this make it where it connects to ATT's EDGE connection upon Boot, I'm really sick of doing it everytime I reset the phone?

Yes it will because the phone is automatically connecting to the network.
So far it has worked, I deleted the T-Mo connection option in the connection manager, and it connected to EDGE with in seconds of booting. Do you know of anything that I could do to fix the random disconnects?
Instead of trying to connect to T-Mo's by default, I gotcha. It works perfectly. You just increased my love for this phone exponentially, as that was my only real gripe with this device, and of course no ATT 3G, but that was expected.
Sorry, but why no 3G from AT&T?

It is physically impossible with T-Mobile USA HD2, it doesn't support the right 3G bands, if you want 3G on ATT, you will have to get the Telestra HD2.
