Does anyone using the unlocked T-MO USA HD2 on ATT, experience any problems with the connection. Mine sometimes says it can't connect, and then connects anyway. If anyone is having any other troubles like this, insight would be appreciated.
I guess I will dialogue with a fellow Indiananan. LOL. Anyway yes, you will have connection issues with at&t at times. Whenever I soft reset my phone all connections will be lost and I have to reset all connections again which is a hassle. It doesnt reset all the time, but its definitely annoying when it does. After reboot you have to wait about 15-30 seconds sometimes just for it to connect to edge or manually go into comm manager and select data connection to on. Hope this helps as you didnt explain specific connection issue.
Well thank you, this does explain some things. When I reset, whether it be a soft reset or power up the phone, I usually go into COMM manager and initiate the EDGE connection, but you say that if give a few minutes it will connect automatically? Correct?
Yes it most certainly will. It a hassle because Im paranoid im going to miss a call, etc during the time its trying to initiate with EDGE.
yea bro i was going through the same thing as you, heres the solution erase all the net work connections that you have (tmobile data,Tmobile internet,Tmobile mms etc.) then install the Att media net and mms cab and reset your device , then go back into netwrok connections and choose media net as the main way to connect to the internet using a private network and a non private network (settings>menu>all settings>connections>connections>advanced>select network)

Will doing this make it where it connects to ATT's EDGE connection upon Boot, I'm really sick of doing it everytime I reset the phone?

Yes it will because the phone is automatically connecting to the network.
So far it has worked, I deleted the T-Mo connection option in the connection manager, and it connected to EDGE with in seconds of booting. Do you know of anything that I could do to fix the random disconnects?
Instead of trying to connect to T-Mo's by default, I gotcha. It works perfectly. You just increased my love for this phone exponentially, as that was my only real gripe with this device, and of course no ATT 3G, but that was expected.
Sorry, but why no 3G from AT&T?

It is physically impossible with T-Mobile USA HD2, it doesn't support the right 3G bands, if you want 3G on ATT, you will have to get the Telestra HD2.

This doesnt seem normal to me as i dont remember this happening when i first got my 8125. When i go to internet explorer after i turn on wifi and connect to my home network it starts loading the page and then the connecting to gprs dialog box shows up. It still seems like it is using wifi but when i click on the wifi signal the gprs time meter is counting up. It seems to me like it shouldnt try to connect to gprs if the wifi signal is already picked up and connected. I thought i remembered reading about this somewhere but ive read so many topics in different places that i cant find it. Is this normal or should i do something to fix it? Thanks in advance.
Ty
anyone?
i just did this last night ..hopefully i rememebr the steps
but what you essentially have to do is remove the connection to the GPRS network and then itll stop connectinig to GPRS brb with an edit ill have to retrace my steps
*EDIT*
ok i think this is how i did it
tap start --settings -- connections tab -- then tap on connections and then make sure that there are no connections for GPRS i know its a little vague but i really forgot how i did it..
can't say that that helped me to much, sorry. I dont want to eliminate the gprs all together, i just dont want it to connect when im using wifi. Please help!
even with wifi on when it goes to sleep it will be the gprs that kicks in - pain in the butt
im just looking for a fix for this. Unfortunately my work doesnt have wifi so i cant test some things ive read here to see if it still does it. I have tried going into connections-network adapters- and selecting "the internet". Also, when i go to settings--connections--connections-advanced should i have media net, my isp, or my work selected? not sure if this has anything to do with my problem but i just want to make sure. Also, when i am connected to wifi and my gprs timer is also going, which is it using? I have an unlimited data plan so its not the biggest deal if its running but i just want to make sure im using wifi, not gprs.
RegistryWizard?
Are you using the program called "registry wizard"? I know one of the tweaks/registry edits is called GPRS always on. It might be the cause if one of the registry settings is telling the OS to always have a GPRS connection regardless of whether or not there is a WiFi connection or a program is requesting internet data...

You will select either 'My work network' or 'My ISP' depending on which rom you're using. If MEdia Net is selected, it will use GPRS. To tell whether or not it will use GPRS on any of these settings, you hit the 'edit' button. Don't change anything, but check it out, and it will tell you whether it will connect to GPRS if anything is in there. For me, 'My ISP' has 'auto pick' which means if it finds wifi or wifi is enabled, it will use that first, if not then use GPRS. If you have a stock rom, 'My ISP' may not have anything in it, therefore it will use wifi, or nothing. Remember to associate any wireless router you have to either your 'work' or 'internet' profiles.
awsome, looks like that worked. One question though....am i affected in any way by not having it set to media net? Will my edge and everything still work the same if i leave it on my isp? Thanks for the help
Ty
EDIT: It works better than it did but every so often it trys to connect to edge but it usually doesnt unless im inactive for a bit online. Is this supposed to happen?
I now leave my setting set to ISP instead of MediaNet and at first it is just connected to wifi but then as soon as it is done loading a page gprs tries to connect again so i have to hit cancel like 6 or 7 times to stop gprs from connecting. After that it doesnt try to connect but i wish i could avoid this because its a pain when im just trying to find something real fast. I just downloaded opera today and only tried a few pages on my wifi network and from the couple minutes i used it i dont think it ever tried to connect to the gprs while i was using wifi. i will have to test this a little bit more to confirm but is there any way its IE that could be causing the gprs to try and connect even though it has a full wifi signal?
I don't know what is going on but when I'm at home, I woud usually be connected to UMTS/GPRS. Of course, having wifi at home, I would rather use that (speedwise) but when I turn on wifi, I notice that I would be connected to both WIFI and UMTS/GPRS.
FIRST QUESTION:
Which am I utilizing? UMTS/GPRS or WIFI?
Now, considering that I "THINK" I'm using wifi, I would launch PIE and to go to a website, it takes forever...... The task bar keeps saying locating. I have to literally wait and wait before I get to the website.
SECOND QUESTION:
What is going on here?
At any rate, if I turn WIFI off and I'm just connected to GPRS/UMTS, I can browse using PIE without any problems. No "locating..." etc. or waiting.
Please help!

While on wifi you can temporarily turn off GPRS using connections hard key below on/off hard key. Just tap on the icon that looks like a pda with two arrows. When off wifi reconnect GPRS using connections in settings menu.
Mike.
Ok. goodie. I was able to shut off the GPRS.
Now I launched internet explorer. The only connection that I'm connected to is my wifi. Still the taskbar is saying "Locating.." taking forever to go anywhere.

At least one step in right direction. I'm not so hot on the slow connection. Assume ports and proxies are setup ok.
Perhaps others have some ideas.

In Start>Settings>connections there is an option "edit my proxy server" and within this lots of options.
I will have a different provider from you so don't know what settings should be there. I am also not an expert on this so hopefully someone who is will jump in with some info on this.
One person I was posting with queried why their wifi connection needed any proxy settings as they were not connecting through to their mobile operator but to their home broadband connection. However when they tweaked a setting here their Wifi suddenly started working. See Mariete's last post here:

We need someone with more knowledge!! Anyone?
Mike
Well for one thing, there is no setting for proxy server. Even then when i did find anything to do with proxy server, it is not even activated.
Next..
Phew...Someone else with the same EXACT issue. I was on with Cingular/HTC support today and they really didn't help. I will keep trying new things and checking back to this thread to see if anyone else thinks of an idea.
I have a Apple Airport (802.11g) with no security settings. I have a few laptops on the network and friends who can connect their laptops without any issues.
I actually got tired of this issue. I downloaded and bought netfront. It was something I was going to buy anyway. So after installing it, I tried it again and this time, it goes to the website flawlessly. It must be something to do with IE.
On the other hand, I'm having some issues with shutting down the GPRS again. It keeps turning on automatically.

everyone make sure they arent on their providers connection that utilizes the proxy.. i dont know about any provider except cingular.. when using wifi stay off MEDIA NET.. everyone's best bet is to make sure they are on the connection for MY ISP, go to settings, connections, connections, advanced, select networks, change the drop down to MY ISP. also make sure wifi is off before doing this, after changing to my isp then turn wifi back on and you should be ok...

I will give this a try. Thanks. I will keep everyone posted to my hopeful success.
Absolutely fantastic!!!
Hi All,
First of all, let me tell you that I was also suffering from the same problem of MediaNet proxy settings. I've done the same changes asked by "shogunmark" which really sounds good logicaly. And my wifi connection started working miraculously! Yes, it is miracle for me as I am trying to connect to WiFi for last 3 days! Thanks a lot again...
I got it to work as well. However, I couldn't use "My ISP" connection as it was pointing to a Cingular domain. I ended up creating a new one called Home and it works fine. I do have a question. Under Settings/Connections/Connections/Advanced/Select Networks...
What does everyone have selected in both drop downs? I had to select my new Home connection for both to get WIFI to work.
that cingular domain/AP is only used for edge/3G data with no proxy.. this is why this is used for wifi.. theoretically MEdia net would work if it didnt have the proxy... but the phone doesnt look at the AP name when on wifi, only the proxy, you shouldnt have needed to create a new connection!

ok, so I should be able to keep Media Net on the top drop down and My ISP on the second drop down? I assume I should just be able to use the Comm Manager to switch between WIFI and the Cingular Data Connections?
Is it possible to setup the 8525 so that it only connects to internet through Wi-Fi and not any of the other options? Based on some threads, it looked like Cingular has disabled this option, but I am not quite sure. Thanks.
The only way I was able to do it was to call Cingular Tech and have them disable the GPRS on their end, now if I go to PIE and the WiFi is off, the GPRS/EDGE Connection pop-up opens, then I get an error message saying the network could not be found and a dismiss icon....
The only way it will connect to IE is through WiFi now.

if you go to settings then connection and delete the connection settings for gprs it will not connect and you can use wifi only
however i seem to keep getting gprs not connected error if i do so?
I'm having the same problem. I'm totally green to the high tech world. Heck this is my first attempt at anything greater than using my calculator function in a phone So if someone could walk me through what I need to do to set my phone up so I can connet through wifi i would reaaaally appreciate it.
I had Cingular put me on the no data plan (not even pay per use). In case that makes a difference.
Thanks in advance for the help.
All I did was go in to the connection settings and change the User name and Password. I do not get any error messages stating the network cannot be found. I get a login screen with User/Pass and Domain. I just click cancel and it drops back to IE.
Now I do not have to worry about accidentally connecting to their service.
well,we can very much achieve it -- In the internet settings in connections, select both of them to My ISP,edit it to nowap.cingular.com
Make sure setting is set to Internet, not work!
I did it and I use only wifi all the time!!
The previous solutions are not really workable for me since I don't want to delete my cellular data connection, I just want to be able to turn it on and off as I choose. With Windows Live, I can have a Wifi connection and turn off cellular data in the comm manager screen and it will just open the cellular connection again.
A hack to turn off the "auto connect" for the cellular data would be great. Make it like the BT or WIFI, where I have to go to the comm screen and turn it on. That choice would be great.
Anyhow, I am thinking of making the Work connection as the default, then deleting all work connections. Then when I actually want a cellular data connection, I could manually select it and say connect. I'm not sure if the applications will close it and try the work connection again or not. I will try it and post again, probably tomorrow.

This works wonders:

ETA: This is what I have been using to deal with gprs autoconnect on my 8525 and it's perfect for my uses. You just start the program and toggle on or off the data connections.
Gprs Disable
It really works thanks for your research
Hello,
anyone has the same problem as mine? And maybe a fix
My problem is the stability of my 3G data connection. Sometimes it just hangs which means that it indicates that it is connected to 3G but when I try to sync my mail or browse to a page, it doesn't show anything and it timesout as it seems not to be connected.
I disconnect my data connection and connect again to fix the problem. I experience the problem when I leave my phone on standby for sometime.
If I have Opera running in the background, I have to exit it and start it again after the restarting data connection to be able to browse!!!
Anybody experience the same problem and maybe has a fix?
I sorta had this issue, but the phone kept switching from 3g to HDSPA and back again, not loading the web page during. So i disable HDSPA to force it only 3g. I dunno if if this is whats happening to you, but hey worth a shot no?
Where?

Start - Settings - Connections - Advanced Network
The tab that comes up, click on the drop down list and choose disable. Soft reset and see if your connection stabilises
thx
thanks, will try that
i Already try that but the problem persist i´m going to try with a diferent radio
I have this issue too, Its been on the last 3 radios I have used. Going to update to the latest one tonight
Have you guys tried disabling the proxy?
Settings - Connections - Connections
You will have your internet settings, and then My Work Network. Under your internet settings, click Edit my proxy server, and uncheck This network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet.
However the proxy server that already in there will dissapear, so write it down. But oddly, on my device, i cant edit it. i dunno, i guess if something goes wrong, just run the connections setup again.
This is a known issue without a solution at this point.
Here's the main thread discussing it, 30+ pages of trial & error:

I posted it early up. read the thread dude it only disables hdspa, its not the same as the 3g switcher in the comms manager, that turns off 3g entirely
to the OP, glad it worked however, my internet started workin a few weeks later with hsdpa, could be due to a better radio that i flashed. so if u flash a new radio, hdspa might still work better so be sure to test it out!
Hi guys i got my Lg V20 (H990ds) a week ago, but i just got the nanosim from two days.
Now i did notice that when I go out from home and I turn off the wifi the mobile data doesn't work at all. I can make phone calls and i can see the signal bar indicating 4G or 3G but there is not a really data connection, just like the phone is not capable of exchange any internet data (trough browser or apps).
And i did notice too that this issue it solves with just rebooting the phone.
So my question is, can be a software related problem? or I got i faulty unit?
Thanks

Yes, every time after I turn off the wifi, the mobile data doesn't work until I restart the phone
I just found out another thing, only if I select gsm/wcdma network mode the mobile data works after turn off the wifi, it seems that the problem is present only with the gsm/wcdma/LTE option. Any ideas?
