Vario II -- internet problems. - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi all,
I have a T-Mobile MDA Vario II, and I cannot connect to the internet, or send and receive email. I can, however, connect to my wireless LAN.
My vario DOES connect to 3g (or shows it's connected) but I keep getting 'This page cannot be displayed' error while surfing.
Can anyone supply me with the correct settings I need to use to connect?
Thanks guys, and gals.

It's aknown problem with T-Mobile. It's been happening for around two weeks now with no sign of a resolution. T-Mobile can't be bothered to inform its customers but if you phone you'll be told to use GPRS.

All working for me, both GPRS and 3G.
Have you tried changing your dns servers?
Try 4.2.2.1 and 4.2.2.2
Rob

My Vario II was having the same problem.
Switched to GPRS and it worked. I then used the Fit4Cat program to disable HSDPA. This resulted in me falling back to 3G and everything working perfectly!
HSDPA was working fine for me since the Vario II was first launched but the last few weeks I've had no joy.
I might phone T-Mobile and see if HSDPA has been disabled on my account. If it has, then the sneaky swines must've disabled it.

Thanks guys, I'll give your sugestions a go today and report back.

T-Mobile MDA and home wi-fi not working

I just really started playing with my T-Mobile MDA today. It still has the stock firmware from T-Mobile.
When I'm at home I like to turn the phone off and just use the wi-fi on the device. The phone sees my wireless network (802.11b) and I enter my encryption key. The phone connects to my local network and gets a valid IP address. However if I try to use Pocket Internet Explorer to navigate to a web page it never works. It always says "Locating..." and eventually says that it cannot open the page. GPRS works fine.
I have T-Mobile's internet3 APN for my GPRS so I don't use any kind of proxy for it so the trick of having a proxy for GPRS and none for wi-fi won't work for me becuase both have no proxy.
I have Linux as my firewall/gateway system so I told it to show me the packets it's getting from the phone when I try to go to a web page. It looks like the phone is correctly looking for the default gateway and my Linux system responds with what it is. However the phone keeps asking and eventually gives up. It then sends the DNS request to the broadcast address and that will not work so it's unable to resolve any names.
This looks like a pretty serious bug in the software of the phone. I've seen other threads where people mention the same problem but no resolution really. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm guessing my only resolution for this is to try new firmware. This is pretty annoying since this is basic functionality (the low level network stuff).
First is your phone a mda vario = htc wizard or mda = htc wallaby? you may be in the wrong forum but a simple suggestion if it is a mda vario is try it on wifi g mode fix is here (only for vario) http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=38898
My phone is the Vario. I actually have a custom ROM that has the enable for 802.11g but I went into the registry and turned that off thinking that was part of the problem because I have an old Netgear access point that is strictly 802.11b. I just tried unplugging the access point and plugging it back in. The phone connected to it for a minute and then suddenly the network went "unavailable." Now it won't connect anymore. This is driving me crazy! I am running the 2.21 custom ROM that's put together by another member here (sorry, I can't remember the name). I wish there was a way to get some diagnostic information from the MDA and maybe I could better see what's going on.
Did it connect with the original rom? and maybe its better to try qtek or imate rom like most of the vario users who have upgraded are using. (which will default to wife b mode)
The original T-Mobile ROM did not work very well either. It continually asked my DHCP server for an IP address and it replied but it just kept asking.
Can you make a ROM recommendation for what you're referring to? I've been through the FTP site here and there are a dizzying array of ROM choices.
Most vario users seem to upgrading to qtek 2.17.7.2 ROM here you can download ftp://xda:[email protected]_2170702_21707102_20710_QTEK_WWE_Ship.exe
user name xda, password xda hope that works for you.
Given that's a generic ROM is there another package that will install all of the US T-Mobile settings?
There are cab's available to install GPRS, MMS settings etc but to be honest it is just as easy to do it manually (many websites give these settings) - I did it with my qtek, came with no settings - did it manually for O2 UK.
I've got the same problem with my home WiFi.
Panera - Good
Starbucks - Good
Home - Not good.
Like the others. I put in the WPA passphrase, connect to the home network, and wait, and wait, and wait....
Now, in some cases I've been able to hard code my ISP's DNS servers into the WiFi card on my MDA and soft reset and presto. Working. But after that if I disconnect the WiFi and go GPRS, doesn't work, because my ISP's DNS servers aren't accessible from the T-Mo (Voicestream) network.
Any help would be good.
In case you've not tried; Setting the Wireless power setting for 'best performance' finally enabled my home connection.

GPRS, Blackberry, Cingular and AT&T

i have been searching this board for days now and have yet to find any info on getting GPRS working on the old AT&T network. I used to use a blackberry with Exchange email and have only been able to sync up mail when connected via WiFi on networks connected to my corporate network or using ActiveSync.
I used the Unlocker posted on ths board (thanks so much to lokiwiz) and am using summiter's custom ROM2.25 wth a regstry tweaker by Nicodekker (more tweaks would be great!).
i would le to use Cisco's mobile VPN client to connect to my corporate network but can never get GPRS up and running on this old AT&T network.
Anyone have any ideas for me?
Thanks n advance!
Update: i take back one statement... i have found plenty of nfo on GPRS just none that has helped
i also have GPRS set to CHAP authentication and pointed at wap.cingular ...

Problem connecting GPRS on t-mobile MDA

hi, i just got a t-mobile MDA vario. its working arite on my operator but the only problem im facing is that it doesnt connects with my operator's GPRS. ive tried using another operator but still im unable to connect or browse thru it. Their CSR told me to get it reinstalled with an i-mate kjam configurations.
can sumbody help me out with it???
tx
Since you say T-mobile MDA vario i am assuming your using T-mobile Uk, all you need to do is create a new connection and enter general.t-mobile.uk as ur APN and then connect, no other settings needed. leave the username and password blank...
Start>Settings>Connections>Connections> Add a new modem connection (under my isp)> type in a connection name e.g My Connection select Cellular line (GPRS) as your modem> type the apn > blank username and pass> click connect and your done!!
hope that helps !
hey thx for the reply buddy, although i have a t-mobile mda vario but as i mentioned that im not using t-mobile services. I'm not even in uk is there any possibility that the gprs in this one is only compatible with t-mobile??? or is there anyother solution?
look on the ftp maybe for the extended roms of the imate or you can go online and lookup the settings that you would put into the connection part of the phone in the control panel.
who is your provider
Try hard resetting the device and try to connect again.
This has worked for me in the past when I had problems connecting.
im in pakistan. and i've configured my handset according to their settings but it's isnt working. i've checked with another operator but its of no use either.
can you please pass me the ftp link???
hard resetting goes like???
im a newbie
ok im done with the hard resetting, but its of no use in this case. where can i get ROM for its imate equivalent??
what if i have t-mobile mda in us what apn would i put?
knock knock... can somebody throw some light n help me out of it

T-Mobile MDA Vario not connecting to WiFi

I just got a "new" T-Mobile MDA Vario (UK), and after starting it, everything seems to work fine.
But when trying to connect to wireless networks, it finds them okay, but never connects to them. It just alternates between "Connecting" and "Available" in the network list.
My laptop and the other PC in the house connects to our and other WiFi networks fine, so it must be a problem with the Vario.
I've tried a factory reset with the same results.
Any suggestions what might be wrong or what might fix it?
The OS is apparently 1.3.2.2 if that helps.
Thanks in advance!
had this a couple of times. my work router here worked fine after i rebooted the router.
but some networks i havent been able to get on to.
What encryption is your wireless access point/router running? and what brand is it?
Thanks for the reply.
It's a Linksys router, using a WEP security pass, but it won't connect to other branded routers either (local unprotected neighbourhoods ones (A Belkin, for example) that the laptop and PC can connect to just fine).
With the old XDA Mini S I used to use, it connected to the network fine then asked for the WEP Key, but this one just never connects. I've tried going into the network info and putting in the WEP Key, and it stores it and gives no 'Wrong Password" error, but still never connects.
I've upgraded the ROM to the latest official T-Mobile one (2.21.2.6 WWE) to see if that would help, but I still have the same issue.
Is switching to the I-Mate K-Jam or O2 XDA Mini S ROM simply a matter of installing it the same way I would a T-Mobile ROM update, or will that brick the phone?
My old XDA Mini S never had this issue, and I've read of a few people using the MDA Vario having the same problem, so I'm assuming it's a problem with the T-Mobile ROMs/software?
Bump.
Anyone got any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
I am having the same problem. I downloaded the lastest upgrade from the T-mobile site and was still not able to connect to the internet with wifi.
And suggestions would be greatly appreciated
I tryed with T-mobile 2.26 ROM. I like to connect to my desktop pc, with ad-hoc mode. As I remember, I could connect, but the PDA didn't accept the IP address and other network settings, that provided the dhcp server. (WinXP internet connection sharing) I checked this with vxUTIL. Connection didn't work even if I setup the IP address, gateway, and DNS server manually.
I upgraded to WM6 and now the thing work well.
I've the same issue, but also noted that the device already connects to dlink routers, linksys ones's didn't work, previously with the original ROM from CINGULAR 8125 the linksys worked fine now they don't.... i recently upgraded my phone to wizard love for G4's so it's not only a tmobile issue.

T-Mobile UK MMS Problem

Hi,
My T-Mobile Uk MMS has stoppped working all of a sudden. Have been able to receive MMS messages in the past without a problem but now I suddenly get a message at the bottom of the screen that says " Error Synchronising".
I have used tmobileukfixed to reset my settings with no success.
It's annoying me as it was working. Typically as these things go somone has sent me a couple of mms messages and I haven't received them which is annoying.
Can somone help ?

One thing to check, as I've found this with my Ameo, is that you're not connected to a Wifi Lan. WM doesn't seem to know to use the 3G/GPRS connection to receive MMS, and tries to use the default internet connection which, when active, is the Wifi.
Thanks for the info. I have my wi-fi disabled. I think I have found a solution when i can find the cab that is !
Cheers for looking and replying though
Dave
