GPRS, Blackberry, Cingular and AT&T - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

i have been searching this board for days now and have yet to find any info on getting GPRS working on the old AT&T network. I used to use a blackberry with Exchange email and have only been able to sync up mail when connected via WiFi on networks connected to my corporate network or using ActiveSync.
I used the Unlocker posted on ths board (thanks so much to lokiwiz) and am using summiter's custom ROM2.25 wth a regstry tweaker by Nicodekker (more tweaks would be great!).
i would le to use Cisco's mobile VPN client to connect to my corporate network but can never get GPRS up and running on this old AT&T network.
Anyone have any ideas for me?
Thanks n advance!
Update: i take back one statement... i have found plenty of nfo on GPRS just none that has helped
i also have GPRS set to CHAP authentication and pointed at wap.cingular ...

ISP for XDA Exec?

Hi, got a new XDA Exec on 02 and am trying to work out how to get connected to the internet and email. Anyone got any recommendations for a good ISP? What is everyone else using?
Thanks for any help and happy new year!
hi!
happy new year to you too!
your ISP is actually your mobile carrier.... in your case, if you bought the exec from o2, then o2 are the isp
on an o2 exec, they are pre-configured for gprs or 3g internet access out of the box on the o2 network......providing you have used a sim that has data facilities enabled.....just click on the internet explorer icon and it should connect automatically
if you are using someone else's sim (i think the exec comes sim unlocked) then you will need to maually create the connections for that mobile provider (start, settings, connections, add new connection)
www.filesaveas.com/gprs.htm is a good source for all the major mobile providers settings
if you are connecting via wifi, then that is governed by the wifi device.....in hotspots it generally is pay as you go (btopenzone, tzones etc) but obvioulsy a home it is just picking up your home wifi connection
hope this helps!
Thanks!
Thanks for your help! I can now connect to the internet! I used the 02 settings. Also discovered the joy of there being Wifi at the station when the trains were cancelled but wasn't able to log on as it didn't accept the phone number it asked for when selecting O2 as the provider for some reason. Haven't worked out how to get email yet either but that's my next challenge!
Thanks again

T-Mobile MDA US - GPRS Internet Services (T-Zones, etc)

What are you guys using to connect to the internet? I can do everything I want with T-zones unlimited, using the proxy... however, if I use the proxy, I can't connect to wi-fi because it wants to try to connect thru the proxy. What services are you using and what are your settings?
Thanks,
Danny
i will use
I wont get my MDA till monday according to UPS, but when i get it i plan on getting the Total Internet plan for 29.99. it includes GPRS, EDGE and Hot Spots. That is the plan the tmobile is advertizing with this phone.
I have the T-Mobile total internet package. I am not using the proxy server, and it connects to Hotspot just great.
However, I have not tried to access T-Zones. Well, I tried once, and got a network solutions 'page coming soon' thing. I doubt I have it correct. lol
hot spot
how does the hot spot autentication work?
im assuming they made it so i wouldnt be able to just put in my username and password on my laptop and log it into a hotspot.
I have unlimited internet 19$ plan.
I don't use any proxy server.
I don't think you can use the regular t-zone on this phone ($9 plan).
Otherwise all good, just use: internet2.voicestream.com in the gprs setup and the rest emty.
my 5.99 tmobileweb with proxy works very well with any website using internet explorer mobile. it doesn't work, however, with outlook or any other mail client or application that doesn't know how to use proxy. i'm glad that virtual earth 1.5 works well even with my tmobileweb plan.
as for the problem that the original poster described, in the connection settings, i created a connection especially for wifi. and to switch between wifi and tmobileweb, i go to 'select networks' and choose which ever connection i want in the two drop-down lists that i have.
Proxy Setup
msafi,
What are the settings for setting up the proxy? I used the proxy with my Nokia 6600 just fine, but, cannot get it to work on the MDA Wizard.
Thanks, SK

universal Blackberries - Help

Hi I have an O2 XDA Exec (personal contract) with the BB Connect software up and running. I also have a Blackberry 8700 that connects to BES at work on the O2 network (BT Mobile I think). I can get BB Connect to work with regards to email, and everything works well
However, when I use the blackberry I can use Opera Mini to surf the web and Google Maps Mobile, so I know I have access to data.
When I put the SIM card in the XDA I can't seem to get the data connection working. I have tried several APNs - o2.wap.co.uk; mobile.o2.co.uk and blackberry.net, but none seem to give me access.
I am aware that my compnay may well have blocked some ports/protocols, but as I can access Opera Mini and Google Maps from the blackberry there must be data there somewhere. Anyone got any ideas as to how I could do it?

As far as I know blackberry and internet are two different connections. As you can use blackberry on your universal you need to get the internet connection setting from your provider (It should be here in the forum as well) and manually create a connecting setting and you should be able to view the web pages as well.
When you use the internet connection your BB connection will be disconnected as you cannot have two connections at the same time.
Hope this helps.
Right, it's taken me a while, but I've got a bit further with this. The reason my blackberry can access data, but using the same SIM in my Universal it can't is all to do with the blackberry connect client.
As my companies SIM won't enable 'data' (ie the WAP or internet APN) the data is coming via the Balckberry BES MDS service. This allows the BES to act as a kind of proxy for data.
The bad news is that the Blackberry connect client on WM5 doesn't support MDS. The good news is that the Blackberry Suite for WM6 that has just been announced http://www.techatplay.com/2007/04/24/blackberry-to-run-on-windows-mobile-6/ should.
Bring it on!

Your APN may be blocking you
Check your APN settings then go to the forums at cingular and search them about possible limitations on the Media Net plan(s) espcially in EDGE territory.

CDMA Treo 700WX Wap connection

Background - I just bought a used 700wx from a friend and had it activated on my Cell provider, Sasktel, in SK, Canada. He had it on an expensive data plan and was tired of paying for this. A friend of a friend works for them and just transferred my account to this one from my previous phone, a Samsung A920 with Wap browsing. Sasktel provides their services using CDMA.
I would like to set up a WAP connection using this phone but am unable to find any connection software for this. The only connection I seem to be able to set up in system/connections are the TCPIP connections. I have the gateway IP address and port and my friends friend at Sasktel says that once I dial in with a wap connection, the authentication will automatically happen.
I have done some searching and seem to find that GSM phones have a GPRS setting that meets the requirements for a WAP connection ie; just the gateway and ports information.
Would anyone have any info that could help or point me in the right direction?
Thanks,
Carl
I don't think Treo will support WAP, the method of login is a bit different and not known by many people
