Hi there,
After selecting Transcriber for my input method, after a soft reset my device always defaults back to Keyboard input method.
Is there any way of getting the Transcriber option to stick?
- Peter
You can, however, set Transcriber as the default SIP by starting Transcriber.exe on startup. (This should be moved to, or added to, non-registry Tweaks page)

This works for me http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=289370&highlight=
CookieKid and hanmin - many thanks. I will check both of these solutions out.
Some ROM versions do not want at all to take your default choice. You may not be able to change this with the registry setting. SK TOOLS did not work for me to set RESCO as default entry.
I stopped thinking about this and set again to Resco after every soft reset. Sad but true.
I'm sure some other ROMs wouldn't be such crazy.
Mine is Jester AKU2.2. Previous ROM Dopod 2.1x ROM was OK.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SIP
"DefaulfIM" <- Change the value of this depends on SIP DestID(can be found in CLSID look for the Key with "IsSIPInputMethod" Subkey)

it works! thanks
ouch
Hi, i tried this (change default to transcriber) and it caused my xda mini s to hang on O2 boot screen requiring a hard reset. Any idea what i did wrong??
I'm afraid this hack is quite a bit of "at your own risk" - there have been many reports of users using either...
A. a non-existing ClassID (never use the ones given, always try to find the one that actually exists on your device)
B. a SIP that doesn't initialize properly when running in boot mode
Specifically, for Transcriber, you apparently can't do this. I'll remove it from my post, it was only quoting another wiki, but in the WM5_Tweaks_Other wiki the following is noted:
The |SIP ClassID| will depend on the SIP's ClassID, which may vary per-device. You can find the correct ClassID by searching for "IsSIPInputMethod" in HKCR, then going to the top key and checking the name of the SIP that's in the (Default) value.
Please note that this doesn't work with all SIPs. Transcriber/Calligrapher are two examples of this.
You can, however, set Transcriber as the default SIP by starting Transcriber.exe on startup. (This should be moved to, or added to, non-registry Tweaks page)
WARNING: Do not assume that the below ClassIDs would be -as found- on your device! Setting it to a non-existant SIP may prevent your device from booting up!

Have anyone ideas?

I have installed Finger Keyboard 2 and had a similar problem until I installed SIP Change which allows you to choose which keyboard you want to use as default. Then no matter how many times you soft reset your phone, it will always be your default.
Just install SIP Change and then go to Start/Programs/SIP Change and select which keyboard you want.
Enjoy
when ever i aet a custom keyboard as my default it changes after i restart my phone :s
any ides why or a fix?

SIP CHANGE:
Installing this will allow you to keep FingerKeyboard as default keyboard after you soft-reset the device. Normally, it would switch back to default WinMo keyboard after every soft-reset, and it would have to be reselected under input options. Keep in mind that for this to work with Touch HD, you must increase the timeout delay to at least 50 seconds!

I have this problem too, and even after Finger Keyboard 2, it still changes back after soft reset.
I don't know if we'd need to change that timeout setting. It's not clear how to do that.
The old version of Shap's Advanced Config xxxxxxxx [edit]
EDIT: I got confused. See the post below about using SKTools to do it. That's what I used
10 second delay has worked for me with both the Blackstone keypad and Finger Keyboard 2.
hi guys.
i found better solution.install latest sktools.start sktools.choose category.under maintenance/input methods choose fingerkeyboard as default keyboard and soft reset sexperia.voilayour default keyboard is fingerkeyboard v2.cheers
Till now I've been using the HD2's standard HTC keyboard as SIP, as I haven't found anything I was really satisfied with.
Until yesterday I installed Resco Keyboard Pro 6 Beta, which is just fantastic (read about it elsewhere in the forum). Perfect for HD2.
But now, I've discovered that a number of my apps changes the SIP back to standard HTC when I open them. Resco's option to make its keyboard the default SIP does work. After soft-reset, it's still the default SIP in most programs.
So I tried installing Fingerkeyboard, SPB Keyboard, etc, just to make sure it wasn't Resco's fault (as it's a beta version anyway...). The same happened with all the other 3rd party keyboards.
Is there anyway to prevent apps from changing the SIP? It's driving me crazy, have to manually switch back to Resco everytime I open those stupid apps (which I depend on at work ) Thank you in advance.
Use XDA google search and look for a programme/cab file called sipchange.
Install it then select the keyboard type you want as your default; problem solved.

Not that simple, I'm afraid. My problem is not how to set Resco as the default keyboard after SR. Get that already with Resco's own inbuilt option. Then I tried using both SIPChange and default_IM_WM5.cab. It still happens, some of my apps changes the keyboard back to standard when executed (and it is not about setting the delay in SIPChange, I'm talking about after all the processes during SR).
That's strange. Never had this problem with Sipchange installed.
You are certain that you have set your preferred default keyboard via the sipchange utility? That's how you get the keyboard you want to boot up after a SR.
If yes then not sure what else to suggest.

Hi, I am having the same problem. One example of such software is Lingvosoft, when you hit search key, the keyboard pop opens, but with default keyboard, even after using sipchange.
I was thinking maybe there's a way to disable the standard HTC keyboards all together through the reg. But that's asking for trouble/hard-reset
What to do...
I think the problem is that using SIPChange, DefaultIM.cab, nueSIPdefault, etc, none of these really changes the value of "defaultim" at controlpanel\sip. It remains with the standard keyboard's CLSID.
I'm really tempted to change this value to Resco's, but reading around here in this forum shows a lot of people having big trouble afterwards messing with this value (mainly because they used the wrong CLSID?) and required a hard-reset...
