HELP NEEDED!
Yesterday I bought a Hermes (Vodafone 1605).
Everything was fine, I installed Opera and tried the wi-fi.
Then it locked and there was non way for turning it off. So I made a soft reset and I found out it hangs on the vodafone splash screen.
I tried a hard reset and nothing changed.
I can see some codes in the lower part of the screen as it tries to boot up but nothing happens.
I looked up some threads and tried to remove the battery for 20 mins.
It actually went over the vodafone splash screen but only to halt on the windows mobile one.
The thing that puzzles me is that I didn't mess at all with the ROMS!!!
It's exactly as it comes from the box.
Any advice and help is more than welcome....
Thx in advance
A few more details
I've been trying to get my Hermes working.
That's what I found:
Taking away the battery for some mins and hard resetting brings me to the windows mobile screen then it hangs
The same procedure but soft resetting instead of pressing space actually let the phone start but then it hangs on the screen: "Tap the screen to configure ...." etc. etc.
Still trying to figure out what's happening.
Anyone with some ideas please help me. I don't want to play with the ROMS till it's strictly NECESSARY. I can't understand why it's stopped working.
Now it works...
Repeated the procedure, soft resetting instead of pressing space.
It went smoothly and run all the Vodafone customization programs.
Now it's off and charging.
Don't know yet what was the problem. Hope it's not a problem of stability.
I'm starting blaming myself for leaving my old Tungsten.
Does anyone experienced something similar? May depend on some particular operation?
Curious, but Hermes sometimes needs to settle down. Suggest you try the following to avoid hangs/freezes as well:

I think it's the well known freeze problem...
My Hermes worked fine for a while. Then I synced it and installed Magic Button. Everything looked perfect. I left it for a while and when I came back it was off and it won't go back on. Soft resetting just causes a freeze on startup.
I guess it's some problem with activesync. I tried the fake server but I'm not sure I didi it properly. I'll try again once I wake my Hermes back up.
Hope to solve this, otherwise it's almost unusable.
It keeps freezing...
I'm getting really worried.
After some hours of normal use I experienced the "won't wake up" problem.
The strange thing is that soft reset doesn't solve the problem. Neither does the hard reset.
When I tried to soft reset it went to the bootloader page.
I need to remove the battery for about 20 mins and try a hard reset.
Sometimes it works with space reboot, sometimes it need the soft reset restart.
Then it freeze after some time.
When it doesn't work it freeze on the vodafone splash screen after showing the version numbers at the bottom of the screen.
I'm quite puzzled.
It's a brand new V1605 with S/N HT645.
Maybe that's more than an issue on it.
Any chance to improve this with a ROM upgrade?
As your device is brand new with the its original ROM, I would take it back to the store you purchased it and ask for a replacement.
They should swap it for you right away.
Not so easy..
I'd like but I bought it from ebay.
It's a brand new Vodafone UK VPA1605, but i don't think I'm eligible for any assitance (even paying) here in Italy, even if Vodafone Italy sells the same PDA.
Now I'm not even able to start it. It keeps freezing on the vodafone splash screen.
I tried several hard and soft reset (even removing the battery for 1/2 hour or so). What I cannot understand is why it's so unpredictable? It's electronics.
It should just work or doesn't work, till you change something (software or hardware).

My O2 XDAII is 10 weeks old. After using the internet and the screen freezing I SOFT-RESET it. Now the screen will only flash with the O2 logo between the backlight coming on and off and a few letters/numbers at the bottom right of the screen. Ive never had any problems before...I cant soft-reset, hard-reset or (it seems) to be able to charge it. The only way in which it stops 'flashing' is to take out the battery. Is there anything I can do at home?? (as you probably guessed Im a novice at all this!)
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Many thanks, Rob
This happened to me just yesterday, although It happened in different circumstances. Baiscally, I went to turn the phone on and it wouldn't (with any button.) I tried a soft reset and all that happened was the O2 screen appeared with the backlight flashing on and off every 10secs.
Before trying a hard reset I waited to see what would happen when i connected it to the cradle at work. Soon as I connected it. it switched back on, but it was as if it had done a hard reset (ie everything I have installed was erased. Good job I made a backup!).
Basically, it seemed to rectify the problem once connected to the cradle, which hasn't happened to you I know, but i thought I'd let you know that I got the same "symptoms".
Hi all,
Did a search on this, but hoping to prompt some new info on this.
While using my XDA2, running the latest WM5 from TofC via Buzzdev.net, with Tomtom it froze. Nothing too unusual with that, but this time the usual remedy of soft resetting it left it stuck at the splash screen. Same thing happend after removing the battery for a short while. I left the battery in, with it stuck at the splash screen, and the device became quite warm (as though it was working overtime).
Afterwards, I tried removig the battery again and then hard resetting. A couple of times, I have go it to boot MOSTLY, but the backlight will not come on (yep, I have checked the settings) and there are no sounds. Also, when it goes into stand-by, it wouldn't switch back on again.
I have since tried reflashing it with the WM5 rom (stuck at splash screen again), and flashing with the official O2 rom / radio (still stuck at splash screen).
From what I have read, it might be a battery problem, but I have tried charging the battery fully (in the cradle, not in the PDA) and nothing.
The battery I am using is a replcement from Ebay, the original is with a friend so not available for another few days.
Any fresh ideas most welcome!
Well, didn't expect too many replies
But academic anyway, because the 'brick' is fixed!!! After leaving the battery out overnight (not for the first time, I hasten to add) the XDA2 has decided to boot
It now has an XDA2s version on WM2003 (just thought I'd try it). Pretty sure though the issue wasn't ROM related, because it had been freezing at the same point with this new ROM.
So, anyone with the same problem on their device should not give up hope!
I tried installing spb pocket plus and, just after it installed, my Wizard didn't seem to be responding so I tried soft resetting it. On booting up it showed the O2 splash screen and then the Windows Mobile screen but nothing else. The screen goes dark as the backlight is turned off but you can still see the Windows Mobile screen showing. Each time I soft reset the same thing happens.
I've tried soft resetting about 4-5 times now and the same thing happens again. I've even taken the battery out and put it back in and the same thing happens. I was going to try reinstalling the O2 XDA firmware but as I can't get the Wizard to connect to ActiveSync I can't do that.
Has anyone got any ideas? At the moment I'm without my phone & all the PDA functions on the phone and I really want it back.
Thanks for any advice.
Matthew
Think you may need to do a hard reset to put it back to it's factory state. Should work then.
Thanks, I'd been trying to do a hard reset but it didn't seem to work - then it occurred to me that I was actually pressing the wrong button to confirm the reset!
Hard reset works and gets it up and running again although, from checking, it seems that there's some problem between sdp pocket plus (3.0.0.3888) as I've now installed that about 3-4 times and each time, after doing a soft reset, the Wizard crashes and won't respond.
ok guys actually two problems here:
1. my wizard works fin no problems at all until i go to use the keyboard for txting or emailing, sometimes its ok other times the screen goues fuzzy and then a lot of lines appear?? any ideas is it hardware or software problem??
2. ive recently tried flashing a new rom to my pda actually a few bu everytime i flash its the same rom that comes up as before ive hard reset after flashing also soft rest but its still the same rom any ideas?
Have you CID unlocked your device?
I'm having the exact same problem with my keyboard, although it doesn't *only* happen with the keyboard. Every now and then--more and more often now--the device just stops responding for five or ten seconds, and then the lines appear, and the screen fades completely white after a few more seconds. Sometimes it reboots itself, but not always. It never responds to any input after that.
It really sounds like a hardware problem to me, but I have no idea what to do to fix it. A friend of mine who is very much into (read: addicted to) ROM flashing said that a re-flash would solve the problem, and suggested I go back to an official ROM first, just to be safe. I did exactly that, and it did nothing at all to help the symptoms. I've gone so far as to start using a Blackjack II for the moment, because I can't deal with my phone locking up randomly all the time. Any help would be very appreciated.
I too have a similar problem, except its just with my screen that occassionally i get lines down the screen then it fades to white, putting it into standby and back on again gets the screen back. My device still responds however.
Sounds like hardware issue. I have come across quite a few threads with similar problems
yes my device is cid unlocked i used to have no problem flashing roms but now it just doesnt happen all it does it resets the standard rom and all the tmobile gumf loads up
**also does anyone know how to get rid of the tmobile stuff permanently?
Hi,
I have owned my HTC HD2 for about 3 months now. I have had a problem since i first got it which is really bugging me. Sometimes when the phone locks, i am unable to unlock it with the slider. The slider gets to about half way across the screen and then freezes. If i leave it for a few minutes it goes back to a locked position agian and when i attempt to slide the slider across, it freezes.
The only thing which gives me access to my phone again is to perform a hard reset by removing the battery.
Any ideas? The phone is on UK Vodafone and is running the latest firmware (v.1.72)

I don't have an answer, its likely to be sense trying to load something and hanging.there are loads of threads about unlock problems, all different, however I wanted to help you avoid confusion by pointing out that removing the battery is a soft reset, not a hard reset.
I'd start by removing some apps, see if it changes the behavior, then re add til it happens
i've the same issue. but not removing battery, just press little red restard button uder battery cover. i think it happens when i enable rotation of today screen or because of proximatelyscreenoff program bug. after removing today from rotation of bsd tweek i have 1-2 restarts for 2 weeks.
I had the same thing sometimes, but never happened with the latest rom I am using, and I am pretty much installing the same apps over and over after each flash...
You aren't by chance running the facebook application?
Leaving that open and locking your phone will result in you not being able to unlock your phone
I wonder if this problem has anything to do with power supply; I sometimes can't unlock the screen either and a few moments ago my battery had run out and when putting it on AC I wasn't able to unlock it. When it had charged a bit there were no problems unlocking it.

As I said, have you tried making sure Facebook isn't running
HD2 screen unlock probblem
Hi All,
I have put my screen unlock code as 0000 and set as 5 mins to lock the phone.
But that is becoming a headache now.
Sometime the phone behaves very unusual, it doesn't takes my code "0000", no option rather to reset the phone or remove battery and restart.
After the reset the phone works with my code (0000) but don't know when the same problem starts again.
Need Help..
Anyone solved this problem?
In the Att Tilt2 the power button was on Top & could close the Screen while talking on the phone
How do we do that in the HD2 cos its Off button is on the Red Call Shut button
Anyone
Unlock Problem

I have this issue aswell but even worse than everyone else. I can't unlock my device at all anymore else I do the "hold both VolUp&Down + Power Button " for reset to manufacturing settings of the cracked ROM.
any process so far or do you guys still think it's about messed up Apps?
best regards,
hanny
HD2 Hard Locked
Okay...so maybe Facebook is locking my HD2. It's LOCKED I'm recharging, I've attemted a soft restart, hard restart and every other restart out there...nothing is working. I even tried pushing the white button below the battery case and holding the volume up and down...I actually thought that it began to do a hard restart. It did begin but then it got stuck at the "swipe" demo. It is definitely stuck.
HELP!!!!
