Wi-Fi O2 XDA Exec? - Networking

I'm trying to get wi-fi working right on my exec. I can connect to wi-fi networks fine, but when I try to surf the web in Pocket IE, it automatically connects to the GPRS connection. Even when I have the phone radio off, it just won't connect thruogh wi-fi. Does anybody know how to get Pocket IE using Wi-Fi?

Internet via WIFI
Turn on the WIFI first from wireless manager and make sure you are connected to your wireless network before you fire up the Pocket IE. It should work. It works fine on my Exec.

Well, I got it working. But it's really slow. Any ways to speed it up? I'm sitting right next to my router and it takes almost 30 seconds to load a page.

Exec only has WIFIb built in, hence it does take time to download pages, specially if the page contains lots of pictures, which most of the web pages do now-a-days. Its really mainly for occasional use, you cannot really use it as a desktop replacemnet. WIFI is only good if you are sharing files from your machine(s) on LAN. It still has an issue on WAN. I have tried doing number of things over WIFI, LAN is ok but WAN, not really.

Sharing internet with bluetooth?

I'm looking to get my xda2 networked with my pc some how, so I can share my pc's internet connection around my house, I was thinking of a wifi card + wireless router, but that's going to be quite expensive.
Could use a bluetooth dongle for my pc and connect with that and share my pc's broadband connection, or is this not possible?
You can get the internet shared on the XDA II with a bluetooth dongle, but don't expect to get your full bandwidth.
I ran a speed test on my XDA II using bluetooth (via activesync passthrough) and only got 556kbps (near the desktop).
But Bear in mind that the speed deteriorates quite quickly the further from the computer you get.
It works fine for streaming radio and skype and I can get a range of about 15m (thats throught a floor and a wall - thin ones) and still listen to the radio.
Of course wi-fi has the advantages of speed, distance, and you can then use hotspots. But is rather pricey - mainly the SD wi-fi card, wireless router would probably turn out cheaper.
All i'm really interested in is the ability to lay in bed, browse a few webpages and sit on msn, not a lot else really, so the bandwidth hopefully should be ok

Click to collapse
Yes, in fact thats all i use it for really, well and skype and radio. Browsing is a bit slow on non ppc or wap sites.....the graphics really slow it down.....flash stuff loads ok tho
when you connects with activesync with bluetooht and have network shareing enabled in activesync you have access to your pc's internet connection.....

Long connect delay to server with Wifi

Hi there
When I connect my prophet to my wifi router it connects pretty much straight away and I can check my emails, browse the internet etc. However, when I try to connect to my server (a pc on the wireless network tucked away downstairs with a shared folder holding all my mp3 etc) using any type of file browser it takes about 2-3 minutes to connect. Once connected it's fine but the connecting part is painfully slow and I am wondering if this can be fixed or if anybody else has this problem. I also have a wireless laptop and it connects to the server instantly so I'm assuming the problem must be with a setting on the prophet ... or am I just expecting too much from it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Internet connection through the USB

I used to have an internet connection through the usb cable, and now I don't after making an unknown change. I can connect to wifi, but wanted to still have usb internet connections as some hotels I stay in do not have wifi. I've been messing around with the setting>connections, but no luck. I am also wondering if any of you Cingular customers have been able to connect with Edge even though you have the WIX blocked for the number. Mines connected and I was wondering if I will be charged.
Not sure how it will be called in an english ROM since I am running O2 GERMANY but you should be able to get this activated under START -> PROGRAMS ... look for an icon what indicates something like INTERNET SHARING. Click on that icon and activate Internet via USB again.
INTERNET SHARING, i just found that today now i am using my desktop thru the 8525.
Actually I am trying to go the other way. I would like the internet from the laptop.
when connected to activesync you automaticly have the laptops network on your pda unless you turned it off
All I get is "Cannot connect with current connection settings." I've tried all the different setting and still can't get an internet connection. Funny thing is that the HTC Home weather updates while connected, but not the internet. The wifi has no problems, but again a hotel might not have wifi.
Hi
I have the same problem, IE will not find any web site either via usb or wifi (ok via 3G) HTC home weather works fine. I then installed Mozilla minimo and I can surf with out problams. I think there must a be a hidden IE setting/registry problem that I don't know how to access

internet via pda

Hey everyone,
I was wondering if it is possible that a normal cell phone, like a samsung d900i, can connect to the internet through my ppc, wich has a connection with WiFi..
TIA
Rindert
Via wifi, no. Your phone only support MicroSD and I don't think WiFi SDIO goes that small.
Via Bluetooth maybe. Depends what OS your phone is running. Sometimes you can use bluetooth activesync in Windows Mobile to share the internet. Obviously your computer would need to have bluetooth as well.
What OS do you have on your phone?
You would need the ability to stop the phones web browser from accessing the internet itself firstly, because I would presume the instant you try to open a webpage the phone will use the cellular connection for internet access.
If you could stop this from happening, you may have some success after you pair to the PPC via bluetooth.
Then you would need to point the web browser at the PPC in either the browser settings or the network connectivity settings.
@ Jadel
My OS is WM6.1 dutch
@ desolateone
Thx, I will try
In which case read this guide (part of which I wrote myself).
Using it correctly, internet over bluetooth is very very easy.

Browser and Wi-Fi Issue

Hi,
I am using both Opera Mobile 10 Beta and Skyfire version 1.5.0.15020.
Skyfire is fast, but it's not loading the full page. When I am checking my mails in outlook, only half of the page is loaded and I waited for full page to load and it didn't. Landscape is working in sky fire. (I have checked for more than one mail thread)
Opera is also ok, and I can able to see the fully loaded page for my outlook mails. But landscape is not working. Any settings needs to be done for the landscape?
I am using the Wi-Fi connection in my home. When I am connecting to the Wi-Fi, it's connected and I can able to browse the internet. After sometimes (5-10 mins), the internet page is throwing error saying check the internet connection. When I saw the notofication bar my Wi-Fi is disconnected and it's searching for new network is detected and showing some other Wi-Fi connection.
I have to dismiss all and once again I need to connect to my Wi-Fi.
What could be the reason? While I am browsing itself, it's searching for another Wi-Fi connection and disconnecting my astice Wi-Fi connection or any other Wi-Fi connection is detected while I am browsing and askin gto connect that one? I am not sure. Anybody could advice on it.
