internet via pda - Networking

Hey everyone,
I was wondering if it is possible that a normal cell phone, like a samsung d900i, can connect to the internet through my ppc, wich has a connection with WiFi..
TIA
Rindert

Via wifi, no. Your phone only support MicroSD and I don't think WiFi SDIO goes that small.
Via Bluetooth maybe. Depends what OS your phone is running. Sometimes you can use bluetooth activesync in Windows Mobile to share the internet. Obviously your computer would need to have bluetooth as well.
What OS do you have on your phone?

You would need the ability to stop the phones web browser from accessing the internet itself firstly, because I would presume the instant you try to open a webpage the phone will use the cellular connection for internet access.
If you could stop this from happening, you may have some success after you pair to the PPC via bluetooth.
Then you would need to point the web browser at the PPC in either the browser settings or the network connectivity settings.

My OS is WM6.1 dutch
@ desolateone
Thx, I will try

In which case read this guide (part of which I wrote myself).
Using it correctly, internet over bluetooth is very very easy.

Sharing a GPRS internet connection to PC using wifi

This is perhaps a slightly obscure and probably impossible thing to do.
Basically, I want to be able to use the Alpine (xda2i) like a wireless modem/router, and browse internet from a PC. The laptop has wifi but not bluetooth. I don't want to use a USB connection.
Firstly, I would need to set-up an ad-hoc wifi connection between the laptop and the Alpine. I have been unsuccessful at this so far. Could I have some guidance please?
Then I need a program to bridge the wifi and GPRS connections. The "wireless modem" utility which came with the Alpine does this for USB, IR and bluetooth, but not for wifi. does such a program exist?
Thanks in advance,
its possible, however, primitive. You can get web access only (unless you want to add code to the gateway software to support your specific ports), and it requires a damn jvm as well as reconfiguration of the laptop every time you want to use it after having gone back to your old connection software. its more useful for two pda's, one which will always use the alpine as its web host. Anyway, check it out:

pretty easy to set up, I had it running in about 5 minutes, albet not very useful via my gprs connection. enjoy

Internet on the smartphone via bt

Hello
Can anybody help me how i can set up my smartphone that i can connect to the internet via BT?
I like to use the broadband internet connection of my home pc for browsing on the smartphone.
Greets,
Che
unless you set it to block it when you are connected with activesync you are connected to what ever network connection the pc have
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=449
thanks for the answer. One thing i don't know is how i can set the phones internet explorer to use the bt connection and not the gprs.
i already have a activesync connection to the pc via bt, internet connection is shared.
in activesync, connection setting: this computer is connected to: maike it connected to the internet. that usually does the trick.
if you use a WM5 defice it's probably the only thing you can do to go online via BT, if you use a wm2003, it's whole different story. you can use PAN profile on the PDA and on the PC. I personally prefer the later one.
system->connections->connections->advanged
changed from myISP to mynetwork
then it use bluetooth for internet
and
" if you use a wm2003, it's whole different story. you can use PAN profile on the PDA and on the PC. I personally prefer the later one."
is only valid if you dont have vidcomm bluetooth stack
hi
thank you for the good inputs, that was what i have searched for.
It was a bit curios for me, because the OS Language of my phone is german, but now it is working!

Bluetooth Internet connection

Hello.
I have a question if anybody can help me.
I have a laptop connected to the internet. This laptop has built-in Bluetooth device. I also have a HTC touch dual phone.
I'd like to know, is there any possibility as the phone to use the laptop's internet connection via Bluetooth? (I mean, the phone to be connected to the computer via Bluetooth and using the computer's internet connection)
Thank you and any help is appreciated.
You could use a bluetooth activsync connection. (while connected via Activesync you should beable to access the internet.)
Could you please explain how to do it? I tried several times but did not work at all...
check this guide here - worked for me
http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=3163
Thank you. I will try today an seeif it is working for metoo... would be wonderful while Niki doesn't have WiFi...
I have a bluetooth activsync connection..when I use internet via bluetooth on my Touch Dual it works well, but after 10 minutes internet explorer says the connection is shut down, and i can't load web pages anymore.
But the connection with active sync is still up
It only works again if disconnect and connect again. Is this a Internet timeout or some..? Does someone know what to do about it.
Excuse me for my english
My problem is I dont even have internet connection when the device is connected to the PC via USB :-( Is there an option in activesync that you need to check to be able to do this?

How to share activesync internet over wifi ?

Hi guys!
I found a lot of programs to share the gprs conection via wifi (converting the hd on a hotspot) but I want to share not a gprs conection ,just the internet I get via usb activesync... I was not able to make this happen with any know program.
Someone know how this can be done?
"wmwifirouter" require a conection to be dialed/conected and don't take into account activesync one.
So in short you want to use your phone as a Wireless Access Point when connected to and accessing the Internet through the USB port of the computer?
I don't think it can be done, I don't think you can have WiFi and USB on at the same time.
EDIT: Just checked and it seems you can have both at the same time.
if u want to use the internet connection of your pc via wifi, u need no programs but i only have to configure properly the wifi network card on htc and enabling internet sharing on pc's wifi connection
Mustn't you rather activate the internet sharing on the phone ?
I am with the provider Orange in France.... and the internet sharing is normally forbidden. I would like to use the phone as a wifi access point without the usb.
Can Orange see that I have activated that internet sharing ?
I would also like to do this! Particularly at work. I can connect my phone to my work computer via activesync and check email etc. It would be great to be able to share this connection with my laptop via the "wm wifirouter" or another app. Please let us know if you discover a solution - I will also investigate.

Speed up internet via Active Sync?

Hey folks,
I don't use this connection for internet access very often, but anyway, using my active sync usb connection to get on the internet, I get really slow speeds.
Often e.g. on youtube, videos really need to rebuffer very often and so on.
It seems that the active sync connection is really somehow speed limited.
My internet link here is 32mbit, so this shouldn't be an issue.
Must be an HD2-Active Sync issue. I am on Windows 7 Ultimate on the PC it's connected to.
Are there any tweaks to speed up internet connection using active sync?
thanks
boba
is the internet slow on your phone or computer?
boba23 said:
On the phone, that's what my post is all about. On the notebook it's connected too, I get the full 32mbit of my internet link. It's definately not an issue with my internet link in general. Must be an HD2 issue. Or Windows7, who knows.
And btw, when I use wifi, or 3G internet, speeds are fine, way better than via active sync too.

ok I understand,I was under the assumption that you could transfer or tether the internet one way phone to computer, unless you were using wifi which I believe you can use you laptop to make it an access point.

Sure, I have several other options for decent internet access, but my point simply is, why is the active sync link that slow? ;-)

If you have any wireless card on your computer, i would suggest you to use your computer as a wireless router (there is a program in win 7 called connectify which converts your normal wifi card into a wifi access point) and you can connect to it from your HD2 via wifi, and speeds will be very fast.
Just a thought if it's not your situation, just ignore me.
Regards Gjizaqin.
how to do so i can use that to? i mean surf in my mobile true active sync, what program do i need?
and if i do so, can i then make my htc hd2 as a wifi router to share that connection to another computer wirelles?
As far as i know the phone is capable of this
Internet
Wired
Phone (Via Provider Data Plan) -> Computer (Via USB to PC in Connections)
Wireless
Phone (Via Provider Data Plan) -> Wireless Device (Via Wifi Internet Sharing)
Wireless Router -> Phone
Provider Data Plan ->Phone
