After I patched the new GPS enabled Traditional Chinese ROM in my D810(Trinity). I found that, there is a new option in the camera which can take photo with the existing GPS position. But because I am in office at the moment, I will try it out later, or may someone help to test it?
It doesn't work for me. When I choose this option it says: Cannot initialize GPS device.
I tried it in both situations. GPS with, and without satellites acquired.
Any suggestions?
Thank you,
FMA

It is because your gps setting's.
Add that in your registry.
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings]
"Hide"=dword:00000000
"Group"=dword:00000002
Or download that and rename it to Gps-set.reg and after with your fvorite registry editor add to your reg, soft reset and after go to settings connectios and set the gps to programs = gpd8 and in the other tab com9!
After try the photo gps to see if work.

Hi ,
It still doesn't work.
1 - Is there a need for a special software?
2 - What is this photo GPS? What will I be taking photos of?
Thank you,
FMA
You take photos of whatever you'd normally take them of, but the unit saves the location of the photo inside the file, presumably as EXIF data.
Then you upload it to Flickr, which is aware of such, and if you publically share it other users will be able to get access to it through a location-based query.

PS: But it still doesn't work...
I have the same problem. My program port is COM9 and hardware port is disabled. The only way I could get GPS to work.
Camera GPS mode
I have the same problem where if I choose that mode of the camera I get the error message dialog box that you guys mentioned...
"GPS
Cannot initialize the GPS service."
The dialog box has a "Done" button to push but that is unresponsive. I have to select the front camera mode (for video calling) to back out of this error state.
Is this what everyone else experiences?
Is there someone who is not experiencing this problem and can they explain what they have done to enable this function?
Thanks
how to manage " gps photo"
after upgrade my p3600 works perfectly and it has also this new feature-...
but , in practice , after having done a "gps photo" , how can I see these additional parameters?
not in "proprietY" of the file
maybe I need a particular SW to see and manage this data?
thanks for any help !!

I check (add) these settings but I don't get any option in the cam to add geo data on my picture.
I used the last release of the FRENCH "Orange" ROM with GPS working.
The GPS works great but the cam software seems to be not supporting the GPS.
Camera with GPS works with DOPOD ROM

geocoded flickr photos
If you use flickr then you can turn on the "Automagically import GPS information as geo data" setting here http://flickr.com/account/geo/exif/
I've tried this with photos taken with my Dopod 1.23.707.6 ROM and it works great!
Here's the full package.
I'll see if I can launch it without ROM modification.

Hi, I'm new to all this, have been tweaking my PC's for years but just got my first PDA and as it seems much easier to do considerable damage, i figured I'd ask rather than risk bricking my new best friend!
Anyway,
I have a Trinity, the GPS is enabled, (and showing in the connections panel thanks to trinitytweaks1.0) but I'm not getting the GPS options in the camera application.
Am I right in thinking that if I install the above registry entries into my device, the GPS options for the camera application will be activated? or would i have to install a different ROM to get this feature working?
I figure some of these details might be useful to anyone answering, Thanks in advance to anyone that does
Orange SPV M700, (white)
Operator Version: 19.123.1.615
Rom Version: 1.23.61.5
Rom Date: 25th Jan 07
Radio Version: 1.30.00.01
Protocol version: 32.63.7020.08H
Its more likey to be the current "Orange ROM" you have on your M700 which is crap tbh.I took the plunge to upgrade the phones rom over the last week. I have no regrets, just big smiles now.

We're creating Special Edition ROM v1.2, the last one still based on the 'old' O2 3.17.03 ROM. We chose not yet to build based on PPC2003 because we feel many things will still change between now and the actual release, and we still need to learn a lot more in order to be able to make something which is a significant improvement over the official ROM, once it appears.
So what's new in v1.2 ?

We need your help:
In order to be able to add more providers in the AutoConfig dialog, we need snapshot files from people that have a working setup for their provider.
Here's the procedure:
1) Check http://xda-developers.com/incoming to see your provider isn't there yet.
2) Set up your machine like someone in your country is likely to want it (12/24 hr clock, timezone (pacific for US?) and other regional settings. Create the necessary connections (at least GPRS, WAP if possible), and name them something logical (such as "O2 GPRS Internet").
3) Make a snapshot using the ssnap.exe tool provided with the Special Edition ROM.
4) Extract the following keys with all their values and data from the snapshot to a text-file:
[list:a7505d4dbf][HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Phone]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\nls]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Clock]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Destinations\WAP Settings]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Providers\{EF097F4C-DC4B-4c98-8FF6-AEF805DC0E8E}\HTTP-{ADB0B001-10B5-3F39-27C6-9742E785FCD4}]

For each connection, the following keys, where XXXX is the name of your connection:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\XXXX]
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\XXXX]
5) Name the text file "Country - Provider" (e.g. "Germany-D1") and upload using ftp to xda-developers.com, username 'xdaftp' password 'xdaftp'.[/list:u:a7505d4dbf]
There's a file already there called 'Netherlands-O2' which can serve as an example.
You help will be much appreciated by others, and you'll be able to cold-boot v1.2 and have all your provider's settings right there. Deadline is this Sunday, July 6th, in the evening.

Hey, it also will be EXCELLENT if we can put our OWN LOGO (or picture) in the after RESET screen.
Dear XDA developer,
I already uploaded Thailand with AIS as the provider. There are other 2 providers in Thailand, which are DTAC and Orange. I will try to find them.
I wonder that some tools might be on your consideration in v1.2:
- Adobe Acrobat Reader
- TIFF file viewer (for viewing FAX file on our mail)
- Ephemeris for checking the Sun, Moon and Compass
- Ruler (I think this is cool, when you need to measure something but no ruler)
- Stop time for StopWatch
- FreqTune for checking the sound frequency
- Remote Display, CERDisp (Microsoft)
(All above is freeware)

Hi Jabber by mov software creates a lot of GPRS traffic as opposed to ICQ. Since both apps are freeware, I suggest you install both in the next release. What I would _really_ love is the pocket divx player which can also handle ogg vorbis and mp3. Definitely a better choice than the Windows Media Player (www.pocketmvp.com).
Installing VNC was an excellent idea!
This is a great place for info on the xda, my respects to y'all at xda-developers.com

just to let you know I had to choose two different Keys:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Destinations\Einstellungen WAP]
... Wap Settings is Einstellungen WAP in German Systems...Installed on an English 1.2 it should go in WAP Settings Key I would guess...
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ConnMgr\Providers\{EF097F4C-DC4B-4c98-8FF6-AEF805DC0E8E}\null-corp-{FB2E8000-800B-849A-BC41-A56D8A2D7266}]
... I was not able to find the {310E8001-80B9-C8BE-C333-EB6AB0026E3C} in my German system, so I took the one with "Proxy"="new-corp:1743" line, as in you netherland "demo" file.
Let me know if this is useble or if I shall search something different...

Low Battery Warning:
Browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Notifications\{A877D663-239C-47a7-9304-0D347F580408}\
Create a String value named "Default" and set its value to "Low battery warning".
Now go to Start > Settings > Personal tab > Sounds & Notifications applet > Notifications tab, select "Low battery warning" in the "Select an event" drop-down list and you can customize it.
Disable startmenu animation
Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GWE\Menu\
Change the "AniType" value from 6 to 0.
Display Daten and Time in titlebar
Browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shell\
Create a binary value named "TBOpt" and set its value to "13 00 00 00"

I don't know where else to post this....I found this while looking for an alternative to the SPV Developers CellTracker app. It's an app called NiceTrack...the screenshots tell the rest of the story:
http://www.nicecuppa.com/nicetrack.asp
Background info: http://www.ascendingangels.com/nicecuppa.com/nicetrack.asp?story=1
Screenshots: http://www.ascendingangels.com/nicecuppa.com/nicetrack.asp?story=2
Download: http://www.ascendingangels.com/nicecuppa.com/nicetrack.asp?story=3 (Version 1.2)
The source code for that app can also be downloaded from the Background Info link.
The SPV Developers CellTracker app (Beta version only, hasn't been updated since December) for PocketPCs is located at the way bottom of the page:
http://www.thelogster.34sp.com/celltracker/
NiceTrack updates the tower changes in real-time whereas CellTracker does not. NiceTrack also shows the dbm signal strength on a cool chart and it also includes a logging function that allows you to rename the cells your phone has connected to while the app is active.
Signal strength chart: http://www.ascendingangels.com/nicecuppa.com/images/nicetrack/main-page.gif
Here are a couple hints based on my experience so far:
1) In order to fully save the renamed/logged cell sites, you must first tap Save next to where you renamed the cell site. Then you must also tap Options/Menu --> Save (extreme lower left) to save all changes since the app was launched.
2) Use Menu --> Exit to completely close the app.
I have tested this for use on my MDA II w/Windows Mobile 2003. I don't know if the app is compatible with WM5 PPCs or regular Windows Mobile smartphones.
Enjoy
Thanks for posting.
This software has been discussed before, and it is great:

However, I believe people are having difficulty converting it to WM5 (when I last checked). But great stuff either way.

Hi there,
Sharpstuff (NiceTrack author) here..
I've just bought a T-Mobile MDA Vario and have managed to get it working on that ( WM2005 )
The problem was that in the older phones the GSM modem was on COM2 and on my Vario it's now COM9. I've made the Com port configurable now, but it's still not 100%.
You can download it from my site www.nicecuppa.net
Let me know how y'all get on.

Sharpstuff, you have an excellent app here. I had to search for a bit to find it but in the end, I'm quite glad to have it . I also like the pun you have for your site...it's quite distinctive since even as a German-American, I know when someone says "cuppa", they normally mean the cup of tea .
Keep up the good work and thanks for taking the time to develop such a great and invaluable app .
oooh.. *bookmark*
Do you have a regular Donate button somewhere? I see the shop, but I'd rather just get X amount straight to you, and not have to be awoken by some crazy delivery guy at 8am for a mug
Thanks for the kind thought...
But, I enjoy doing this stuff, so just click my google ads and I'm happy!
;-)
Got this to work on my 8125, almost... Clicking on 'add' under events causes it to crash with the following error:
NiceTrack.exe
NullReferenceException
Application::Run+0xf
MainForm::Main+0xa
....bummer - so close!
You need to select an event type eg. "Flash backlight" then click "add"..
Needs some validation there.. Plus, the events side of things isn't very useful at the moment, I need to implement some more event types.
Cheers
I installed it on my qtek9100 but it doesn't find a GSM-modem at all.
Also a Qtek9100, EN - found it on COM9 just fine
What would be really neat would be an event "Show Picture". That way it would be easy to make a make-shift map tracking thing. Simply grab a picture of the map off the internet, plunge a big dot on the map where you got the cell, save as image, and have that image displayed when entering that cell %) GIF files on the storage card, shouldn't take up too much space
Alternatively a full-fledged mapping thing could be developed, but that's a lot more work *nod*
@sharpstuff hey I installed it on my XDA EXEC, but when it scans for com and reaches com9 it just freezes...any ideas?

So is Release 1.3b a partial fix for WM5 users? I installed it on my MDA II and it detects my modem on COM2 without any problems. Both 1.2 and 1.3 seem to work on WM2003 PPCs.

Yep, it's an intermediate release. Basically, it reminds the user on startup to set the Com port in settings
I'm working on v1.4 at present, this has more error checking on the GSM code, and multi-threaded com port detection so the whole app doesn't hang
For what it's worth - it seems to randomly lock up on me - requires an 'end task'. Sometimes when this happens, and I try to fire it back up again, I just get an empty message box dialog; no title, just the close button.

Doesn't seem to work on my XV6800.
I installed to main memory.
I tried with Google Maps on and locked to 6 satellites and with it off. I was set to Com 4 and a baud of 4800. No NMEA shown and lock = no. Left on until the device turned itself off.
My devices GPS need a prime for other software to work (TomTom, etc) but works great with Google Maps.

fair enough. i'll try and download it this evening, see if it works on my Artemis.
could please somebody publish the GPS full config that is working on the HTC Touch Cruise (Polaris)?
Thanks in advance.
- Use a registry editor and go to HKLM/Software/HTC/Camera/P9.
- Set Enable from 0 to 1
- Soft reset your device
- start the camera and at the top left corner you can switch between photo, video, ..... You will see that there is a GPS option added also now.
Thats it.
Nice tweak!
Works like a charm...
Cool, once you have a GPS photo, then what can you do with it? What programs work with the GPS tag (Picasa, etc)?
u gotta have your gps on like tomtom for gps photo to work after u have config... it. because without your gps active the gps foto wont work. so what u do is while using your gps go to gps foto and take your pics

That's not true, when you select GPS Photo, it will initialise the GPS automatically, no need for TomTom or other external GPS software, well at least that what it does on mine. Also, I've just noticed, the GPS camera (whilst having a GPS fix) moves 'normal', more fluid, not like the normal camera option.

I have configure it following you procedure, have now the GPS photo as an option on the camera, the icon is showing GPS coverage with several green bars, take the photo, stored in 'My POI' as GPS_00X.jpg, open the folder and picture but NO GPS info written on it..!?!
Please help.
Thanks again.
and once you have a photo with GPS data in what you can use it for?
All the GPS Photo could be used in other softwares (like as PicasaWeb, Google Earth, Google Maps).
If you open a GPS photo you can not notice the difference...the only difference is visible with software that show you the EXIF information of a picture.
yeah, just like bonobox said. It is useful too, when for example you want to tag a place for your friends to find you. ie; you take a GPS photo of a key location, upload that to your friend, he looks it up on google earth, and he gets the exact coordinates of where you are.

The gps info is hidden (written) in the picture itself.
The whole meaning of the gps photo is geotagging. Making pictures that you upload to an application like google earth, flickr, .... so that you can share it with other people.
Maybe this article will make it better to understand
But can u use it with tomtom.
example: i am on the beach and i dont have a streetname so i take a GPSphoto of the place. can i use the tomtom for bringing me to that point?
thanks
If you can extract the Exif header information then you could enter the nav to using Lat/ Long in TTN6 but this is a lot of messing around, also if your lat/ long were a considerable distance from the nearest road the Naviagation software will fail to compute a route.
The best application for me to view pictures is Panorado Flyer from http://www.panorado.com/en/index.htm Assuming you use Google Earth you can open a Geo-tagged picture and it will show you where you were stood on the planet when you took it - Mike
Is there a hidden option to increase the "resolution" of the GPS data? I noticed that, when I opened a picture in Photoshop Elements, the GPS data only went to whole numbered seconds. When I stuck that rounded-off LatLong into Google Earth, it is off by a couple hundred feet.
I know greater accuracy is there, though, because both TomTom and Garmin report degrees to 5 decimal places.

- Use a registry editor and go to HKLM/Software/HTC/Camera/P9.
- Set Enable from 0 to 1
- Soft reset your device
- start the camera and at the top left corner you can switch between photo, video, ..... You will see that there is a GPS option added also now.
Thats it.

Route Tracker
With Route Tracker you can create routes and add several route points containing text and/or images from your current position. If gps is available it will take the current longitude, latitude and altitude. Without a gps module information of the current cell id and the location area code are saved.
For each route a report can be created which can be saved as a html file.
prerequisites:
PocketPC with .net compact framework 2.0 and SQL Compact Server 2005 (already installed in WM6 professional)
(tested on a WM6 professional device without gps)
known issues:
after uninstall the db and the images will not be deleted
getting MyLocation can time out
timer greater than ~15 seconds doesn't word when device is in suspend mode
in the view form only the map type for default route maps is working
next features:
automatic point adding by distance (every x meters)
more robust MyLocation
geo game (show taken image and try to find the place on the map)
Any comments are appreciated.
version 1.0.5
new view showing the whole route in one image using Google Maps (markers or path)
this view can be saved to an image file
check its settings form for parameters
version 1.0.4
new setting: Use Google's MyLocation for report GMaps and for exporting to kml. On devices without gps the cell id information will be used to get an approximate location. (default on and will use internet connection!)
version 1.0.3
new report "GMaps" using google maps (will try to use internet connection!)
updated date set to last saved route point
additional setting: Flash on Saving (flash on main screen)
version 1.0.2
additional settings: check gps, vibrate on saving
saving settings: seconds, minutes and vibrate on saving
show time with date in the grid
version 1.0.1
A report can be saved to kml for viewing in google maps.
In Menu/Auto Report... timed saving can be activated.
Thanks,
heliosdev
Anybody tried?
Would be interesting to know if the gps information gets stored and if there are any issues on devices with qwerty hardware keyboard (regarding screen rotation).
Thanks!
New version is up. If you have difficulties with the gps data, try to start gps with another app and after having enough sat fixes try Route Tracker.
Nice now this app work, but here some ideas:
A Sign that shows a record was made
Start Time on the main screen
Show Cell ID or GPS is used
Other Ideas will follow
Thanks for the input! New version is up.

It works on my Diamond without any problem.
Great but here some Ideas:
Show the last position time in the grid (Last position time saved at
Vibrate is good, but better would it if you make a flashing dot on the main screen because if you use it in a carholder its not so go.
(Or you can add vibrate too under settings)
And Upload direct the cab file, its easier to use!
Thx and work on!
didn't work on my vogue - got a net framework error.
@all
thanks for your input!
@fredcatsmommy
what is the error message saying? Can you go to menu/settings and press the 'Check GPS' button?

okay, here's the message I get when trying to run RouteTracker (which does not open at all):
Error
RouteTracker.exe
MissingMethodException

Version=3.0.3600.0, Culture=neutral,
PublicKeyToken=3BE235DF1C8D2AD3',

Well, it looks like sql is not installed on your device! I've seen cooked roms which removed this to save some space...
What .net version do you have installed? (run /Windows/cgacutil.exe)

I'm using the ppckitchen to cook a custom rom and have included both sql, 3.5 supposed to be included and I also select .netcf 2. Maybe that's a problem, but I've not ever gotten that message with any of the other programs I use that require .netcf. When I run /Windows/cgacutil.exe it says 2.0.7045.0
Will this work with .NET 3.5 or only 2.0?
I get this error using the ROM in my sig and SQLce 3.5 added.
Code:
An unexpected error has occurred in RouteTracker.exe.
Select Quit and then restart this program, or select Details for more information.
File or assembly name 'System.Data.SqlServerCe, Version=3.0.3600.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=3BE235DF1C8D2AD3', or one of its dependencies, was not found.
Here a new Idea
Make a Today Plugin that shows CELL ID, LAC, MCC, MNC or GPS and a count down. It shows new recorde made in xx.xx.xx (ex. 00:00:10 = 10 sek.)
Well, I'm using C# .net and I'm not sure if this can be used for today plugin development.
Btw, new version is up!
new version is up!
Tests with devices without gps are appreciated! (internet connection needed)
(report GMaps and save report (in Report form) to kml and view it with google maps/earth on desktop)
Nice,
works fine!
But can you set a dot on mylocation?
Like here http://cellid.schlapa.net
Also show the cellID data on the Gmaps Screen.
Thx wait for next versions ...
Dtrieb
