Have just recieved my bill and have found that I have a number of International SMS's (every 2nd day since 27th jan) to the same tower in UK. In that time the only difference to my software is that I have been trialing SPB Diary (downloaded 25th Jan)and SPB Mobile Shell when it came out. There is no indication on my JASJAM that these SMS's have been made but my provider assure they have.
Is there any way a phone can sms without a sent message notification and has anyone else noticed this occuring.
I am very concerned that this is possible, any ideas or help would be appreciated. Have Hardreset my Phone and am only running standard WM5 software till I find out what has occured (Bummer)
Security applications...
There could be a hidden application installed (e.g. ultimate theft alert, phone security system, ) that sends sms out. You should ask the provider to send you the recipients number.
And: A hard reset could be not enough, if the application is installed in ExtROM as well.
Regards,
Apple*
I have had this phone from new (8 weeks or so) and it just started happening on the 25th of Jan so I wouldn't expect to see the software in Ext_rom as it is still locked down.
Provider would only say it was a forwarding cell in the UK, will try to get more out of them but I am not holding my breathe.
It is the imate suite that sends the message...if you unistall those programs it will stop
Cheers
Thanks, i will uninstall (don't use them anyway) and hopefully that will be the end of it.
What is the pupose of imate suite sending these SMS's and what information are they sending.
found a link that is relevant for anyone interested
http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies-archive.cfm/628372.html
quite a number of people in Australia having the same problem
Yeah thats how I knew it was the suite...I frequent that forum
Don't know what it sends but it does it so it should stop now that you unistalled it
Cheers

Hello all,
So... bad news has befallen me. I've lost my Hermes; someone else found it and called Mexico city a bunch of times. This is the first time I've ever lost a cell phone in the many years I've carried one.
As I wait for my replacement to arrive I'm wondering what is happening with the data that is on the old one...
I know I can't do anything about the one I lost, but I can think about the next one.
So here is the question: Is there any programs that can wipe the memory card, and hard reset a PocketPC phone when a "special" SMS message or a series of messages shows up? I am hoping to find some way that I can wipe the data off a lost phone, but without a timer running the background that has to be reset.
Thanks in advance!
its highly unlikely, coz if such a thing existed anyone can flash anyone phone by sending an sms, but if have installed some anti theft program it will send a silent sms to u with some info of the cell tower the phone is using..for now get the phone and imei barred by ur service provider
I've already disabled them.
I was thinking of something that would allow you to set a random password to make the phone reset. I'm not having much luck finding one... maybe I need to write one when I have free time...
Is there a way in the WM5/6 APIs to cause a hard reset?
EDIT:
Apparently there is a way: http://www.pocketpcdn.com/articles/hardreset.html
Now I need to figure out how to put a hook into the SMS receiving code.
I DONT THINK U CAN HOOK THAT UP THROUGH sms.. sorry about caps
If you have an exchange server 2007 account you have the capability to wipe all data from the PPC.
Also, see this product: http://www.motionapps.com/msafe/_treo700w.jsp It is currently listed for specific devices, but it demonstrates the capability you are looking for and they have a free trial...
Hrm...
I went and looked at the MS video here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/business/directpushemail.mspx
And this IS the functionality I'm looking for.... BUT I don't think I want to set up an exchange server.
I doubt my phone would play well with a server that is running on my laptop

Ahh HA! very nice find!
I hope it works on the new Hermes. I'll try it tomorrow when my replacement phone gets here and report back if it works.
I have not tried yet but it seems very cool.
It can do a lot of things by sms control included the hard reset
Eye on thief:
http://www.mycnknow.com/LockAppen.htm
Here's what I don't get with that program...
I'm on Cingular... my settings and whatnot are for Cingular. If the thief has T-mobile, or orange, or whatever... will the SMS still get sent?
You have to enter the "alert" phone number with full access codes, preferably with country code. If the thief can use the phone with his SIM card, it will work. I don't know about the US, but in Europe it's no problem to send a SMS from one carrier to another.
Here's another program doing basically the same:
http://www.pocketpc-live.com/ultimate-theft-alert-v3-for-pocket-pcs-2.html
Remote Protect works as well...
you can lock your phone with an sms, unlock with sms, hard reset as well...
i'm using it on my Dopod 838pro with no problems.
It also has the ability to send you an sms telling you that your phone has been stolen and provides the Thief's IMSI number and your phone's IMEI as well. Once you receive the sms from the Thief's SIM card, you get his number. From there, you can send the Hard Reset/Lock format to his number and it locks the phone.
Right,
Tytn on Orange (UK)
using Oranges latest rom release.
The issue is when i perform a Soft reset the device loses recent SMS messages.
sometimes its just the last recieved message, sometimes its all the messages recieved in the last hour or so.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
Maybe you left "message" app. open when you reset the device? If you use some software to reset the phone, the software maybe automaticly close the opened applications before the reset for you. But the pin hole doesn't.So use some software instead of the pin hole,or close the opened app. before you reset the device.Just give the chance of saving data to the applications.
Yes, I remember this isssue a while and back and used to have exactly the same problem. I don't have it anymore since using the WM 6.1 ROM's with the threaded SMS or if I use the Palm threaded SMS app.
Thanks, I'll give those things a try, and i'll see if Orange have got round to releasing WM6 for the hermes, I'd quite like WM6, but also quite like the simplicity of orange's "it just works" releases.
I got my phone and am quite happy with it so far. I am on the Rogers network in Canada. Everything works great except that incoming msg are showing up 5 hours behind on the time stamp which throws off my sms threads as my msg time stamp correct on the way out.
So if I sent a msg at 9PM and they reply it shows there reply the same day but at 4PM of the same day? Any ideas why this is happening? It's happening from any number I get a txt from.
Thanks
Anyone having this issue or is it just me? I know this has been an issue in the past on various WM units but I'm not sure what the fix is with 6.5?
Anyone help please?
Hi.
Not sure how this connects to your problem, but usually (always) when i send text messages everything is datestamped correctly.
But when I use Phonelog to log my calls to calendar it is 5 hours off.
I have been bugging the developer for years now. But I am the only one who this happens too.
sad face.
My timestamps are exactly 5 hours behind. What developer are you trying to reach? What do you think the issue is? I think it must be a WM 6.5 issue or an network time issue? I've read about this before with other devices, just not 6.5 devices yet.
Anyone?
I'll do some more google research.
This app.
Every update he makes it still is 5 hours off.
Maybe u could give this app a try.
Great app. Barely works when it;s 5 hours off every time...
http://www.infinityball.com/phonelog
Somewhere there is a post on his site with me asking him to fix it.
It would be cool if there was a solution for all of us.
No other app does the funky time stamping...
Maybe this link will help you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=527587
i dont have timezone diff but i got this issue
1st sms (i send him) my time show 12.00
2nd sms (his replY) his time show 11.50 on my mobile
mea his sms is infront of my sms as i only can sort by time or by name
end up if i sort the thread by using "sort by time" the whole thread went message..
as u know which is my send sms with his sms reply
no fix for this?
Got a friend from Starhub who had this issue on his Treo Pro. I'm not certain if the fault lies with Starhub or WM!
cannot be network as this is very standard.....
sms time stamp should use mobile owner time as timestamp..
i dont have this issue when i use on htc diamond

Hey, I have the exact problem, I am also using Rogers, and I also got the 5 hrs off. That makes all the msg received on the top.
Hope someone could help.
try this
it may work
Usually...
More often than not, SMS time stamping issues are something to do with the network provider BUT sometimes, it can be how the phone's SMS software is talking to the network provider.
I had a Nokia N96 be +6hrs out while a Samsung with exactly the same SIM card in it and thus on exactly the same network/account setup etc, the time stamping was perfectly correct.
I updated the ROM on the Nokia to a newer version and the time stamping was perfect again.
I highly recommend anyone experiencing SMS time stamping issues to apply the HTC SMS hotfix that became available in the past few days.
i applied the latest HTC sms hotfix but it dont work for me..
already email HTC to see they have any suggestion a not.
my friend clock is faster/slower than my by few min but it euff to mass up the whole chat as u dunno which is your ans with his reply... (to what i know is basic on friend mobile clock not the network as i tested with 2 mobile)
but it actually shouldn't work in this way as it should basic on our clock to go
i had email to HTC and herre is their reply (i havent try yet.. later than try)
Thank you for contacting HTC.
With regards to your query, please be advised to try:
1) Go from settings->menu->all settings->connections->connection setup->select country and operator->ok to reconfigurate the SIM card service
2) press call key->menu->options->band->select the network connection type and GSM/UTMS mode according to the network provider's settings
If still no avail, we are quite sorry that you will have to backup all the personal data you have on your device though synchronisation or backup tool and perform a hard reset to re-install the whole system for your phone.
After a hard reset, the device is restored to its default settings-the way it was when you first purchased it and turned it on. Any programs you installed, data you entered, and settings you customized on your device will be lost. Only Windows Mobile software and other pre-installed programs will remain
To perform hard reset,
setttings->menu->(all)settings->system tab->clear storage
Thank you for your continuous support of our products and services. Should you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us again.
We look forward to be of service to you again.

im also on Rogers with the HD2 but i found a fix for this.
I was having my SMS come in with -5 hours on them as well, but after applying this registry change everything is working out (You also need to Soft Reset before the changes kick in)
Just edit the registry and set the value to 0
HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\TrustTimeZoneField = 0x00000000(0)
Sorry i cant find the original thread where I got this fix, so dont account me for the credit!
Hope this helps!
**EDIT
i found the thread, it was in the Kaiser forum:

Thanks/Credits to Dangerously.
Talking to HTC support by e-mail is like talking to babies or monkeys. I recently tried to report 3 bugs, the answer I got back was ridiculous, the support person obviously was not able to read, only giving one-line answers, that were totally beside the point. Replying did not make it better. Maybe they are using children in the countryside in China posting random standardized answers.
I have since sold my HD2 because without reliable SMS I cannot conduct business, and a company that are so incompentent that you cannot even file bug reports is not worth any of your money.
Also, the description to the SMS "fix" that has been published on their website, completely ignoring to tell what problems it fixes, makes me think they have employed some pretty incompetent people. Any company with the slightest bit of self respect knows that when they issue a patch of fix, they must tell what was wrong and what it fixes.
i dont have -5hr but the timestamp which send by friend is not match with me.. it seen like all reply sms from frienz are using their mobile timestamp rather than my...

Hi guys,
Just wondering if anybody can help me with this problem I am having with my Samsung Galaxy i5800...
Sometimes when I receive a text message that is longer than the maximum number of characters in 1 text message...my phone will mix the remainder of the text up with a previous message from my inbox.
Does anybody know what the problem could be here? I have tried deleting my convos and minimizing the number of messages in each convo to no more than 500 and the problem still occurs. I took the phone to the carphone warehouse where they installed the most recent software onto the phone but I am still convinced this is a problem with the software and not the network - never had this kind of trouble with my network and I have been with them for at least 5 years.
Cheers,
Lewis
This doesn't answer your problem completevely, but you could use an alternative messaging application. At least as a workaround if you can't get this fixed, maybe you could use it only for longer messages or something.
Or try reinstall soft.

Cheers, tried this but the problem still persisted...think I will just send the phone back and try getting a complete new handset.
It maybe the service career's fault and not the phone's.....

Hi all,
Need some help here.
I've got my Omnia 7 for almost a year now. I always received an SMS notification when I got a new voicemail. Since recently this doesn't work anymore. I'm not sure when this stopped functioning.
I have recently updated to Mango. A while after that I applied the Samsung Mango update. I suspect one of those updates causes this, but I'm really not sure.
I do get other SMS messages.
I have tried to put my SIM in another phone, called myself, left a voicemail and got an SMS on that phone immediately. Also the other way around, I put another SIM in my phone, call the number of that SIM, leave a voicemail and I did not receive an SMS. This proves, the problem is with my Omnia 7.
I've tried Network Profile. Select another operator. Then select my own operator. Just to make sure all operator settings are applied.
I checked with my operator (dial voicemail and use menu). The SMS notification is enabled. I tried to disable the notification. Restarted the phone. Then enabled the notification again. Restarted the phone again. Still not working.
Anyone has another suggestion? Setting in diagnosis app? Registry setting?
Thanks a lot!!
Heathcliff74
It's a common bug, M$ is fixing it:
“There have been reports of issues centered around voice mail notification via SMS. This is a known issue and Microsoft have a fix available that will go out in the next possible Windows Phone update.”
http://crowdsupport.telstra.com/t5/...-p/7626/message-uid/7626/highlight/true#U7626
Ok. Cool! Thanks for the heads up! So it's not just me. There are some OEM updates planned for next week (read that on WMPowerUser.com). Maybe that will fix it. I read the temporary fix might be to delete the "sms conversation" from voicemail number after each message. Will try that. Maybe WP7 sees it as duplicates or something.
Ciao,
Heathcliff74
My pleasure
Can't wait for some more updates, Mango needs some polish.
This drove me nuts when i realized it was happening, couldn't for the life of me work out what was going on, rang my network and had them reset voice mail, didn't think it was a phone issue as all my other text msgs arrive fine. At least I know now >< very annoying bug as i use my phone for work and need to know if i have msgs on voice mail.
Have just been going through same arguments with Optus in Australia.
Discovered there was an SMS waaaaay down the list of threads from 321 (VoiceMail) that had one message in it with the current date and time acurately showing the current number of messages in my voice mail box.
It seems that it is somehow updating the previous SMS rather than sending it as a new one.
For a temporary work around I discovered if you delete the SMS thread from your Voicemail then the next notification will be treated as a new SMS and will indicate accordingly. Unfortunately you have to delete the thread every time a new Voicemail is received.

Had to look twice when I saw it was you having trouble sir, a rarity!
Well Heathcliff, after some time I can finally tell you that there is an update available
Change your brand to TMO-DE, and a 7740 update will be waiting for you. Good luck!
