I am a happy owner of a HTC Artemis/XDA Orbit. But I am missing some keyboard or hard keys for writing SMS or doing a phone call. I don't like the soft keys very much.
Now there are several hard keys: the green and red phone symbol, the windows key etc. So why don't use (some of) them as a keyboard, for putting in some characters of a SMS or a phone number? Is there an application or any other possibility?

On the Phone screen there are two soft keys "Contacts" and "Menu".
I would like to change the "Contacts" soft key to activate GoodContacts instead of the standard Contacts. How do I do that?.
PS: It is not the soft keys on the Today screen (112 and 113), but soft keys on the standard Phone application screen.
Hi all.
Just a very small problem but still very annoying
When useing notes or even adding/editing contacts, the back space key ( soft or hard ) sometimes fails to respond , even though the screen is registering a tap ?
If i soft reset the Vario all is well for a while, its only when its been left for some time.
Any ideas please ?
If you have CAPS or Shift active, Backspace works like Del, i.e. erases the character under (before) the cursor, if any. Just in case...

Click to collapse
Many tanks for your advice but the problem still persists.
When typing a text or in word, the back space will not delete the previous character or move a space back ONLY when i toggle to the '123' button will the back space work correctly ?
(Also if i soft reset its all fine for a while)
The key is regestering a tap and the screen has been re-aligned just to check.
Got me well confused
I have had this problem too, but I could not solve it.
I've had three new MDA VArio II's from shops in three different parts of the country and all of them have had this problem. Shops and support were unable to solve it. Did anyone ever find out what the problem was?
Jono.
Im old school, I like to put the "-" in between the first 3 numbers and last 4 numbers of my contacts.
So I Was entering in some people today, and I suually hit the blue dot and "f" to get the dahs, but it doesn't work. Shift doens't give me a capital, either. And I don't have to hold down the blue key to get the numbers working when I press the appropriate keys, they come up by themselves.
I checked and the Fn and Shift keys were no stuck, and hadn;t been pressed twice. What is going on?
Anyone? This is annoying
I confirmed this bug... when adding a new contact and entering a phone number via the hardware keyboard I couldn't insert the '-' (dash) character, no matter what i did with the fn and shift key i would get the 'a' character. I could insert the '-' character via the standard windows mobile software keyboard and the PCM Keyboard (another software keyboard).
This could be a design flaw of the windows mobile contact editor. Maybe they wanted to disallow all non alphanumeric characters and only implemented that for the hardware keyboard rather than for both the hardware and software keyboard.
Whatever the problem is, in order to get a dash character to show up when editing a contact phone number on the stock Sprint 6.1 rom it looks like you will need to use the software keyboard
When i write a text and use the sym button it adds a e with two dots above it before the symbal that i have chosen.
is this a prob or am i doing something wrong to make this happen?
no one else had this?
Not seen that here ...and just tested of course -within an SMS, using the sym key and then selecting the character I want on-screen ...that character is added perfectly
Ive got a problem atm where when i try to use the blue key to get number and symbols it doesnt work so im having to use the on-screen keyboard which is a pain.
Installed the htc touch 2 keyboard and it wont let me uninstall
guess the only thing to do is another hard reset
no problem here - sym key pops up symbol sip
using jacks 2.9 rom with no extra sip's installed
Hi, i just wanted to ask for help, because im from Spain and need the "Ñ" key and i also want the "_" key on my QWERTY keyboard. As soon as i saw that there werent those 2 keys, i was wondering if there's an application that makes me configure normal keys (like Z,X,C, those who doesnt have blue letters) so that i make them also have "blue letter", like Ñ or those things
would be very nice since i only use qwerty for writing sms
thank you !
try x1bc. you can associate fn+a (,b,c,d,f,z,x,c,v) to any letter (or program)
