hi,
i didn't find a post (with a solution) similar to this issue. i'm using an i-mate JASJAM (HTC TyTN) with windows mobile 5.0 and intent 10.1.7.551 or .554 (upgraded from this forum to 11.1.7.1023). i have a wap-gprs connection which has a proxy. i'm able to use for example opera mini 3.0 on a Nokia N72 but not on the jasjam. opera 8.60 however is working on the jasjam too (by adding the proxy in opera's own settings). the difference is that opera installs under programs (is not java) and opera mini installs under the midlet manager. there's also another java application (morange) which works on the N72 but not on the jasjam. i tried a registry addition from
http://forum.tao-group.com/viewtopic.php?t=6
but it didn't work. i tried J9 from this forum it also didn't work.
i tried all network types, although i still can't figure out how they work exactly:
My Work Network
My ISP
Work
Secure WAP Network
The WAP Network
The Internet
under "settings - connections - connections" i only have "My Work Network" and "My ISP".
for example the midlets worked on a wifi connection but i had to choose "Work" instead of the other types, although under "Network Cards - Network Adapters" i configured the adapter to connect to "The Internet" not "Work" (since no proxy for wifi).
anyway, it would be great if someone would know why the midlets are not connecting via wap gprs with proxy.
thx
I have a similar problem running java midlets thru T-zones proxy.
does anyone have any solution? to the tzones and midlet?

Hallo,
I've searched for a long time in the forum and in Internet but I was not able to find how to access a shared folder on my  LAN. It seems I have to use pass-through connections but I'm not able to make it work. Every time I use pocket file explorer to open a shared folder (writing the complete UNC) I receive the message "the network path was not found" and then "network resource cannot be found .....".
My LAN is a 192.168.1.X network and I've seen that IP assigned to the PPC is 192.168.55.101
Thank for every help.
Rudy
I'm not sure.
But have you tried localhost????
HTH
Stefan
I've tried from pocket file explorer both \\localhost and \\127.0.0.1 but I've received always the same messages.

Tryed Pocket LAN yet?
It works
I have been trying to do this for months and pocket Lan works perfectly
There is a freeware network utility, named vxUtil.
Maybe this tool help you to solve the problem.
Utilities include:
DNS Audit
DNS Lookup
Finger
Get HTML
Info
IP Subnet Calculator
Password Generator
Ping
Ping Sweep
Port Scanner
Quote
Time Service
Trace Route
Wake On LAN
Whois
vxUtil (Personal) operates on all Windows CE-based Handheld, Handheld Pro, Palm-size and Pocket PCs and requires Windows CE 2.0 (or later).

I've truid both pocket lan and vxUtil with no results. I can't ping the laptop. I think I could never ping it if the network segment of PPC and laptop are different. Laptop ip now is 10.0.0.8 and PPC always 192.168.55.101. Perhaps I should enabled a proxy on the PPC to route the ping.

do you have a personal firewall installed on laptop? try to disable and check
I have no firewall installed or active.
I was successfull in accessing the LAN using the software "pocket LAN CE", but this is obvious thus it installs a server software that stays resident in the tray bar of the deskop PC.
There must be a solution to access the LAN using only active sync!
As far as I know that's not possible without a LAN card.
The passthrough which is available via activesync works only for internet connections.
I might be wrong. Keep looking. Have done it for a long time an gave it up.
If you find a solution feel free to share at this forum.
Success
How about LAN over Bluetooth?
LAN over bluetooth
And how do we accomplish this with the XDA II while the XDA II has no profile for LAN over bluetooth.
Please share the info you've.
Because this is interesting to me too!
For me too I'm also trying bluetooth over XDA but aint working yet
:?
I have installed bluetoothGPS.zip file (found in this forum) and then I installed the Bluesoleil Bluetooth Software for the PC (evaluation version). I could get an IP for the PPC and see the LAN but Internet wasn't working. Anyway having the two Bluetooth Stacks at the same time on the PPC is not a good alternative...
So please:
-MS give us some more Bluetooth Profiles, cm on, you can doit!
- Tobias and Pocket Bluetooth Tools: Please finish the LAN profile, I already donated you
Cheers
Make sure that a "guest" account is enable on your server, and try protocals other than tcp/ip. Ipx/Spx is fair. I suppose I should ask first if the activesinc laptop is able to browse the target folder? If it can, then try mapping the share as a network drive on the laptop, and see if you can nav to it using activesinc??? I'm a newbie, and don't even have my MDA I yet (in about 2 hours, I will). I will definantly be trying lots of unorthodox crap, so I'll let you know if I get it to work! Good luck.
Hey gurus
being a proud owner of new xda exec (O2 UK) 've got the following questions .....
KINDLY GIVE ME STEP-BY-STEP PROCESS PLS....
1) Wireless Modem --- How can I use my exec's browsing on my laptop either by bluetooth or usb ? I tried with bluetooth where in which I can detect my laptop in my device and i started wireless modem (selecting bluetooth) and clicked 'start'...later from laptop's bluetooth wizard i initiated dial-up-networking and GOT STUCK! wats my user id and password and which number to dial ? i tried giving my mobile number(device mobile number) without any user id and password but with no joy...all i got is error message saying that couldn't connect ....Retry
2) Terminal Client -- All I understood from manufacturer's provided guide and forums is this just like pcAnywhere stuff -- controlling remote computres..... i 'm interested in doing the same with my laptop... I tried here but which server name should i give while configuring it in the device ? even if i give my computer name how on earth it can detect my laptop ? shud i do some config change in my laptop like making it visible externally ???
3) GPRS vs WAP -- My exec is preloaded with both as it comes with Welcome Browse & Download tariff of O2. I've got one ready-made connection under 'My ISP' and 'My Work Network' which are as follows :
My ISP
Name - 'Mobile Web' of type Cellular Line(GPRS, 3G)
Access point -- mobile.o2.co.uk
My Work Netwrk
Name - 'O2 Active' of type Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
Access point -- wap.02.co.uk
As GPRS is charged based on content downloaded where as WAP is charged based on the online duration (correct me if i'm wrong pls )... what should i do if i always wants to use GPRS ? Can i delete 'My work Network' as it's access point is pointing to WAP?? Am i correct in saying this ?? If i delete this wud u see any probs in browsing and other functionalities of my device???
4) Active Sync Support Code 85010014 -- Searched a lot on this nasty bug and all i found is remedy but not the fix
lately i 'm finding myself reinstalling outlook everytime when i want to sync my outlook stuff ?? but no user reported such frequent reinstallations ?? is it something really gone crazy with my outlook ?? btw i installed outlook from the provided cd and synching my lotus notes with it by 'Outlook Connector for Domino' (downloaded from microsoft site).... its practically not feasible to reinstall everytime isn't it i'm looking either to get rid of this nasty bug or other means of synching my lotus notes into my device preferably freeware pls....
Thanks in advance...
Looking forward to your expert replies ...

OK, i can give a bit of insite on 2 points
2) For you to be able to connect to a machine remotely with TSC, it must be running Windows XP Pro, Server 2000 or server 2003. and have it enabled under controlpannel > System > Remote Tab.
As names translate to IPs through DNS, the computername should be fine, aslong as your device is on the same network segment (subnet) as the machine you are trying to connect to, otherwise IP is needed.
3 think of WAP as a highway, and GPRS and GSM as the cars. GSM is pay by time, and GPRS is pay by byte. Wap is just the type of connection, and you will need the wap connection to access O2 active (If it is anything like voda, you will only be ableto get O2 active through this, and you will neeed to use the other one for normal net browsing)

Hi all,..
Maybe someone of you can help me with the following problem concerning VPN over GPRS.
I'm using the WM5 build in VPN client often, and seems to be working fine for the terminal application (Remote desktop).
Now I want to access shares and folders on the VPN server with my WM5 client (same server as the remote desktop server). When I set up a VPN connection with my universal to the Windows 2003 server, I cannot access shares and folders. When I try to connect to the remote desktop it goes fine.
On my laptop I can access the shares, but only on my Universal I cannot.
I think it must be something with a default gateway. There is an option on my XP laptop, which say's "use default gateway on remote network". But this option is not avalable on my universal. Is this the problem? how come I can access the remote desktop and not any shares?
(PS: When I connect internal through WiFi It works fine, only over GPRS-VPN is doesn't work)
Best regards,..
Arjan
no one?
I have not been able to get VPN to work over GPRS. How do you configure connections?

Hi,
first thing I want to say, this is a very great board. Just flashed my first cooked rom on my german HTC Kaiser (t-mobile brand) and I'm very impressed by all the things the people here in the board get out of this little phone ;-)
But know I have a problem, I could find no answer for.
I am using a ssh tunnel on my device to tunnel some of my internet connections which are established through my mobile provider.
For this I'm using Mobile putty's tunnelling support to create a local socks proxy through which I tunnel my connections. The problem is, some applications like mobile outlook doesn't seem to have proxy support, so the only chance i see to tunnel them is, to tell windows mobile in the connection settings to use the proxy for all of my connections. The problem about that is, I think, then my putty would'nt be able conect to the ssh server, because it would be also forced to connect through the proxy, although it is the proxy itself (i hope this is unterstandable, because English is not my native language ;-) .
So I'm searching for a way to do an exclusion like it is possible under a non mobile windows to say for example, "don't use the proxy for this addresses", or something like freecap with tunnels applications without proxy support through a socks proxy. But I didn't find this setting nor a tool do accomplish this.
So Is there a way to do this unter windows mobile 6.1?
Another nice thing would be a tool, to dynamically switch between a direct connection and a proxy, so if there's a way for this too, I would be very happy to learn about that either.
Thanks for your help,

I am trying to force web traffic over a SSL VPN (CheckPoint SecureClient Mobile) through an internal proxy server but am not having any success. Has anyone done anything similar to this before?
From the mobile itself I am able to telnet to the proxy on the desired port once the VPN has been established but Pocket IE keeps popping up the error:
Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings tap Settings.
I've definied the proxy in the Work Network profile and set that profile to be used for both Programs that connect automatically to the Internet... and to a private network......
If I change the setting Programs that connect automatically to the Internet.... back to My ISP then Pocket IE goes directly to Internet
Any ideas on how to make PIE realise that it is connected to a VPN and attempt to use the proxy?
Thanks
Jon
User Opera.. I never had an issue with a pretty similar setup.
