I am a frequent traveller, I travel a lot between Eastern and Central Time zones.
When my PPC was on WM5 it used to Auto update the time no matter which state I used to be in.
But ever since I updated my PPC to WM6 the AutoUpdate of clock stopped working. Can someone help me out
i did find a registry entry which I used.. I do timezone tab in Phone settings and it is checked to autoupdate and still the phone is unable to update the time from network.
anyhelp is greatly appreciated
You are seriously wondering why you are not getting full functionality out of a bootlegged OS?

I can't help with the WM6 question...but I am curious how you managed this with the WM5 OS. I have an 8125 and apparently a similar travel pattern. My device NEVER updates the time based on the network. How did you set this up when you were still running 5?
I am interested in how you got it working as well. Mine did not update once from the east coast to the west coast. Not even when making a call.
well i have a reg tweek that will change the time when you enter a diff time zone via the network...hope this is what your looking for....
Timezone and time update
In the branch HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting Change the value of the Key "ShowTimeZonesPage" to value of 1 (dword). Close your registry editor (no reset required) and tap START-SETTINGS-PHONE, there should be a new tab where you can automatically set the phone to get time and timezone information from the network. Really useful for me as I do extensive travelling. Tested on WM5

Yes! Its there on WM6 too!!!! Dont know if it actually works, yet to travel in a different timezone.
I have had it enabled in my registry in WM5 and WM6. It's NEVER worked for me. I change phones a lot so I'm always taking out the SIM card. When I do this, the battery comes out and it loses time/date.
I'd be curious on the details as well because I've never heard anyone that actually had it functioning!

I tested this tweak and it seems to work when I initiate flight mode and then turn flight mode off (which will be great when I land on the plane...the time will adjust automatically).
Will this update periodically check the time to ensure it's sync'd or will this only work when the phone initially communicates with the network?
acording to microsoft list of bugs in all from aku1 to aku3 this feature never worked and they never fixed it..... since crossbow has several parts of old aku roms my guess is it does not work either..... this feature is also carrier dependent if you manage to make it work.

My carrier supports it. My Wizard never did with the ROM hack or with Crossbow. So if it worked, I'd love to find out how! This at least makes me feel good that I'm not missing out on something...

upon doing some more reading aparently some aku3 roms now support it!!!
but in a diferent way. here it is;
Receiving Network Identity and Time Zone(NITZ) information is currently unsupported.
This feature was incorrectly documented to be supported by Windows Mobile Version 5.0 AKU3.0 in Windows Mobile Version 5.0 Documentation Release. NITZ is currently supported at Radio Interface Layer(RIL) only.

OK, so apparently this functionality is in fairly high demand...and since we're talking about WWAN devices, hasn't someone written an app that will periodically ping a time server (like PC OS's) and update the time on the device?
I am NOT a developer, so maybe I'm missing something obvious here. But it doesn't seem like a complicated concept for sure.
registry wizard does this
the xda-developers registry wizard allows you to make the registry tweak "show time zone s page" in both WM5 and WM6,- this put the time zone tab in phone-options, but the feature never worked for me. I called my provider to confirm if they supported it but the help desk was clueless- Would love to see if anyone got this working.
Confirmed working on my 8125 through the Cingular network. Before the hack I had to initiate a physical active sync through USB or manually change the time. Now if I go and change the time to say an hour ahead within 5 -10 seconds the time reverts back automatically.

Here is a quote and a link to a program I found on the Cingular/HTC forum:
"How hard would it be to go to the clock settings and select the "visiting" button and select the time zone you are in?
Works for me.
There are options for atomic clock server time sync. But that won't address time zone issues.
http://zdnetasia.com/downloads/handheld/swinfo/0,39043246,39175141s,00.htm

I don't go out of my own time zone, so I don't really have any issues with it. The registy hack has worked just fine on my 8125.

My old cellular phone Ericcson R600 is ale to display name of the City I'm actually in.
I would like to have the same on today screen in my MDA2.
Is it possible? Is there today plugin which can do that?
That is not possible. The 'City name' is a Cell Broadcast (CB) message sent on CB Chanell 50 - Windows Mobile can receive CB messages, but there is no special handling of specific CB messages.
is it hardware specific (radio ROM) or OS (WM5 ROM)?
It is not impossible, but such plugin is not known (till now).
It's possible to receive broadcasts (like SMS), don't disturb phone user and store information anywhere.
It is possible to retrive stored information and display on the today screen, too.
I was thinking about this plugin, but time... May be in january ...
actually, pocketmax's phonealarm plays around with "Location-based information (change profile dependent on current location!)" which I think is similar to what you are looking for: it picks up the CellID signal, but not sure what it translates into. The idea is that when you're at "work" it'll pick up on that cell tower and switch to that profile, but I don't think it gives you the "city name".
It's also an experimental addon that doesn't work on every service.
I don't need profile switching. What I need is ability to show on Today Broadcast messages from specific channels
This is possible but the app would have some problems on newer devices as the BCM messages are ignored if the header is similar (for power consumption reasons) so if you would stop the app and restart it but not switch cells you would get no CBM to retrieve info from...
But for XDA2/2i/3 it would work np.
so it's possible but no app? is it possible to write it such plugin in .Net? I don't know C++ well..

Yeah I did read the thread. But dktoday is supposed to slow down the system. Was wondering if there is something else...
I'm using dktoday with Charmer. I have been using that since. I got the unit and it is not slowing down my phone. Charmer and Wizard is relatively the same hardware other than the WiFi and such.
Anywya, dktoday has the option of displaying lines that you need, e.g., it has 3 lines of information, you can have the choice of which line to be displayed. Try that, may speed things up for you.
UPDATE: Ok, I take my words back. dkToday DOES slow your unit down (e.g. the Today screen). Ever since I read this post, I'm trying to 'sense' the effect of dkToday. I had PocketBreeze installed and the 'slow' item on my Today screen is the PBreeze, which I presume it is because it is a heavy item. However, to my surprise, the dkToday seems to be the one causing the PBreeze (probably not just Pb, but all Today plugins). Since I had this program from the first day I had my unit, it doesn't occur to me that it is this that causes the unit to slow down (as many had complain about the slowness of OMAP processor).
I found this article and thought I would pass it on. Microsoft has provided the registry setting to implement new DST for PDA's and SmartPhones. This site I found, edgeblog, has provided a nice cab to make it easier for us...

Ty.. my work is giving me headaches over the DST changes, atleast my PDA won't
I am glad that there are some others that know about the DST change..... can you say Y2K all over again, but this time there will be a problem the day after.
Where is all the press coverage this time? I know my machines will work on March 11!!
This would really help.

I tried the one from MS's site and it failed on install. Somewhere I thought that WM6 was already ready for this...but I could be wrong.
Just found a page on MS's site about WM6 and I quote:
Q. Does Microsoft’s recently released Windows Mobile 6 platform require this update?
A. No. It does not require an update.
The page is here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/daylightsaving/daylightdownload.mspx and the question is the very last one.
Did this cab actually work for anyone?

I first tried to install the official Microsoft cab that they were nice enough to notify me about, but it wouldn't even install.
Then I installed DST2007.cab - it installed fine.
However, Sunday I woke and eagerly checked my 8125, and NO CHANGE HAD OCCURRED.
So I set the time manually, and then my alarms were all off.
Did this cab work for anyone?
Edit: Just went to edgeblog, and found this post: "Once you apply the patch, you must manually change your timezone to something else and click apply. After that, change it back to your correct time zone. This forces the phone to re-read the registry file. I tested this on my Blackjack and it worked perfect. The phone changed the time correctly at 03/11/2007 2:00AM to 3:00AM and gave me a dialog box telling me it had adjusted for DST."
So, I have re-installed the cab and done the above, and soft-reset, and now when I do SP TimeSync I don't have the hour difference anymore that I was getting.
Moral of the story: Not just read the posts, but follow the links and read, rinse and repeat.
I'm installing this now, I hope it helps because this was exactly what I was looking for. After DST my entire phone has been messed up. All appointments are starting an hour later and ending an hour later....but the best....really lovely part is that my alarm goes off an hour early. The fact that my phone has made it through angry mornings for a week is a miracle. I hope this helps.

However, for some reasons Internet Explorer will never connect nor will it resolves URL.
What could be the issue?

PIE has a hardcoded proxy now, you have to remove it in the registry.
the reg change is in the hermes wiki near the end (newly updated).
is there a way to fix this without manually changing my registry settings? To date I have avoided changing my registry settings for fear of screwing something up. How "hard" is it to use one of the registry editors to change settings... is my fear justified?
Also, without changing the settings, what limitations/changes will I see in PIE that I don't see now using AKU 2.2 (or whatever the current Cingular ROM is)?

probably not. it's very easy, and the registry wiki page is quite helpful. since you just upgraded, now is a good time to try playing with the registry...worst case, you hard reset and nothing is really lost. i don't think you'll have any issues making minor changes though.
sooner or later, one of the very helpful people on this board will probably post a cab or small app that allows this registry entry to be easily changed/toggled.

from what i understand, without the registry change PIE will not function unless you are connected via the wap.cingular APN. this may or may not even be an issue for you in the first place.

Hi, tried searching this forum but haven't found what I am looking for. Basically I am searching for an application that enables automatic network time update. Could someone point me in the right direction. I have an AT&T/Cingular 8525 that has been flashed to the Black Satin ROM. Thanks in advance!
install pimp my black .02 and turn on time zone tab in the phone settings. Click "bling" and wait for the reboot. Go into phone settings and time zone tab and check "update time automaticly"
Thanks for the quick reply. But is there just a cab file I could just install rather than re-flashing?
i think hes talking about from a specific time server
there is a program called syncrotime i think. it used to be on the faria roms. i have no idea where to get it though. google it.
edit: found it....

Thanks, all, for your quick and insightful responses. I am coming from the Treo 750 to the AT&T/Cingular 8525. Is there a more elegant solution? Basically, on the Treo 750, once you're in the "Clock" settings under the Settings menu, there was a box to check that allowed the Treo to stay in sync with the AT&T network time setting. Looking for something similar and simple for the 8525.

theres a reg tweak for that

theres another one though. ill have to find it.
THANKS!!!! Love you!
I always seem to press my cheek up against the phone and weird things happen to the clock/time when I don't use my bluetooth headset. This definitely saves me from thinking I am either earlier or later than I am when the time abruptly changes from my cheek!
Hello Together,
here's solution on how to get Blackberry Connect running on Topaz:
Instructions:
------------
- Make sure you have uninstalled blackberry connect before doing the following.
- Attached you will find a small zipped executable (EnableBBCTopaz.exe). Unzip it and copy it over to the \windows\ folder of your device.
- Open a registry editor and navigate to HKLM\init
Create a new string with the name "Launch130" and a value of "EnableBBCTopaz.exe" (without the quotes of course)
If Launch130 already exists, choose a number higher than, it doesn't really matter, just make sure it is higher than the other entries so it get started after everything else.
This makes sure the exe ist started after every softreset.
- Make a softreset, or execute the EnableBBCTopaz.exe manually.
- The program changes your model-id from "HTC-Topaz" to "HTC-Raphael" in memory
- Install Blackberry Connect like you usually do (My tests where successfull with version 4.0.0.104, 4.0.0.106 didn't work for me -- just hung up after a restart)
- After installation and the auto-reset through BBC open the BBC settings and go to the Info-Tab. Under device-name there should now be HTC-Raphael.

hi gnick.
Thanks a lot for providing a solution for this issue, but I cannot get it working...
The Client keeps stating: "PIN Pending". When I try to register the account the data tunnel gets established for a second but then it gets disconnected again.
The SIM is working fine in a Blackberry.
I already tried to reinstall the BB Client several times, but I always got the same results.
The device-ID is set to HTC-Raphael, so that shouldn't cause any issues.
Additionally I tried to kill the bbmain.exe and suspended the log and security services and reenabled them after a few seconds, but still no success.
If you have any further hints on what to try, pls. let me know...
Thanks in advance,

Which provider do you have? Your provider needs to support HTC Raphael.
Mine (Vodafone Germany) does support HTC Raphael (Touch Pro).

Hi Gnick, partly. I got it to work with stopping the Blackberry Service and then activating the programme (your one) after a soft reset. However, after every soft reset, I will need to do the same process.
Open MemMaid
Stop Blackberry Service
Open File Explorer
Start your programme
Open File Explorer
Start BlackberryMain.exe
Close File Explorer
Enjoy emails.
This is too much like hard work, so I think I will be either selling my Diamond 2 and going back to my Diamond 1 or keeping both, using the Diamond 1 and waiting for a better fix to become available by subscribing to this thread (and others) and hoping that decent clever chaps like yourself will come up with a fix!!!
By the way, one other item that needs fixing is that I am only able to have my work email on this. I do not have the Blackberry Secure Internet (the one to send service packs and add other email accounts). So I can't get my home email..
There is one other alternative by the way:
This is to write a Mortscript programme that does this tedious process automatically.... I have made enquiries to someone I know....
@gnick
Thats a good point, asking for the Provider...
Well I checked the websites of T-Mobile Germany and the last device I found, where you could officially download the bbconnect client was the "Kaiser" (Mda Vario III, HTC TyTN II, AT&T Tilt ).
This means, that I either have to get rid of my Topaz or convince you to make a special version where the model-id is set to the one of the Kaiser (I only found "KAIS120") but I am absolutely unsure wether this is the korrekt model id used for the bbconnect client.

Hi All,
I finally got it working.
As I am running WM 6.5 on my device, I had to change the AKU String in the Registry HKLM\System\Versions to ".1.6.3".
After changing this, I got a PIN and could do the Enterprise Activation with my account.
Thanks a lot to all for the effort to get this working on the Topaz.
Cheers,

Hi All,
I too got it working. I followed the tips on this thread and on the one by cOrnholio with the following notes:
AKU set to .1.6.1
BBC version 104 worked (106 didn't) just as you said gnick .
Blackberry still crashes Manila sometimes when deleting the last email and exiting tmail.
I cannot activate my other email accounts as the Blackberry Browser (I think this is BES) does not load, even after the prompt "The internet connection is currently in use by the BlackBerry browser. Would you like to temporarily disable BlackBerry browsing? Yes/No". Once disabled and refreshed, it still does not connect. I think I read this on cOrnholio's thread.
Sent mail from pc does not redirect mail to the sent mail folder on the D2 but into the inbox instead.
The soft reset problem still exists, but it does at least work. My D2 has now had emails for the last 3 days.... Fortunately the D2 is more stable than the D1 so soft resets are required less often.
My thanks go to gnick and cOrnholio for this. I can now use my D2!
By the way, I have made some simple shortcuts which make the process following a soft reset simpler:
Add shortcut to BBMain.exe to the start menu
Add shortcut to MemMaid to the start menu
Set MemMaid to re-open at same page in Advanced Settings
A couple more tips for new people at this:
Be patient. Sometimes you can try the same solution more than twice and get different results
Be patient. The IP Address and PIN don't always appear immediately.....
Regards

Hello mitsi, setting the "Launch130" key in the registry to EnableBBCTopaz.exe as described in the instruction in the first posting should ensure that EnableBBCTopaz.exe starts automatically befire BBC. This is the "clever" way to autostart it without doing any manual work. If it doesnt autostart, that could mean that you have a spelling error in the regkey name, regkey value, or that you havent placed the file in the \windows folder.

Hi gnick,
I must admit, I haven't checked this, but I have had problems before with Blackberry. Because our IT Dept in their wisdom have set the security to lock the phone after 60 minutes of inactivity, I keep having to unlock it. I have a Mortscript programme which does this for me thanks to EdSub, but it would appear that Blackberry takes a higher pecking order after a soft reset so the Mortscript isn't activated before Blackberry, no matter how I try to configure it. Therefore, I suspect Blackberry will start before your programme too, so it would then think the phone is a D2 instead of a Rafael immediately after soft reset.....
If your Blackberry has the Security Policy set by your IT Department, you too may have this issue, but otherwise, it may be possible to start your programme before Blackberry starts.
Isn't it all rather silly??? The things we do to get our phones to our liking eh???

It shouldn't take longer than a few minutes. You may be able to help it on it's way by going into Blackberry settings, then in the Utility tab, press "Register Now". Then if you go to the Identy tab your PIN and IP address should appear hopefully.

This is fair enough, but please see this link: http://www.htc.com/sea/SupportViewNews.aspx?dl_id=497&news_id=61. If you support this on other HTC phones, then why not the Diamond 2? Do you have plans to develop this further? I would appreciate your help/comments on this please."

Blackberry Connect is not supported by HTC Europe and there are no plans to release the 3rd party application or test its compatibility.
Please contact Research In MOtion to see if there is compatible version for your device.
Best Regards
Mike"
Hopefully they will change their minds in the future. Has anyone tried RIM?
mine worked 2 days later
had to wait only because my orange data network was pending ...
now it works perfectly
