ask before connecting ? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Is there a way to make GPRS connection "ask before connecting" ?
Currently, I have wifi connections connecting to internet and 2 GPRS connections which I like to use when there is no wifi.
However, I don't want it to use GPRS unless I want. So I would like to use "ask before connecting" if there is such an option.
How can I achieve this ?
Also, sometimes some applications (Msn Live, Hotmail) connect to GPRS when there is already wifi reaching to Internet.
How can I change this behaviour ?
(I don't want to use GPRS if I'm connected through wifi)

Hi
I hear good things about Danielherrero's bandswitch app. This is a long thread and I think there are revisions along the way so best read through a sample of the pages:

hi mike,
are you sure that application is related to my problem ?
I've read first 6 pages of it and couldn't understand it...

GPRS keeps auto connecting, chowing battery

I have SPB pocket plus on my prophet (latest dopod rom)...
Is it possible to make it that I have to manually connect GPRS (other than going via control panel), other than letting it connect whenever it damnwell pleases? It eats the battery alive with GPRS simply staying on and idle like that!
Regarding SPB, is it possible to put an icon to connect to a SPECIFIC GPRS connection in there? With SPB gprs monitor, there is an icon, yes, but it only connects to the DEFAULT gprs connection. Also, once you click disconnect, it simply reconnects again in 20sec for some reason.
Thx

i don't know of anything allowing a quick shortcut to connect/dc your GPRS, but what i've done is set my preferred networks to My ISP (which is one of the default profiles, IIRC) and My Work Network. this way, the GPRS _never_ connects, unless i specifically, and deliberately, manually connect. i very rarely require GPRS (i always use wireless networks - they're abundant here in germany), so by taking the GPRS profile out of my preferred networks, i don't have to worry about it connecting without my knowledge, clocking up crazy costs. crazy!
my question to you, though, is what is trying to connect so frequently? have you set your email accounts to check for new mail every few minutes? i'd have a look at your settings and make sure.
other than that, i can't think of much else...

(sorry, can't resisit being stereotypically south african, given the chance...)
lol, "ja swaer"
i've also made a dummy connection that doesnt work, so GPRS doesnt auto connect now unless i manually connect, but it's a schlepp to do it everytime...
If u do search guys maybe u can find everything u want,
However;
try this

thoughts on connecting through CRADLE > WIFI > GPRS in order.

hey guys heres abit of unusal question? (to be honest i dont think any of us ask any usual questions )
anyway what im trying to do is find out if there is a way to force a pda when its trying to connect to the internet to first check if internet is avaible through active sync (cradle or usb cable) then to check if WIFI is avaible then if thats not avaible to use gprs - but to use gprs as a last resort.
so the way it will work is an application needs to connect to the internet it first is forced to check for a connection through active sync if thats not avaible then to see if there can be a wifi conenction established if that fails then to connect to gprs and in the order.
i was hoping i could find what scrpits are used when the connections are established and then make a script to run the will force the device to do this.
Or even if there is a reg edit that I can do that will allow me to get this done? (would regedits be possable for this)
Id appericate your thoughts on this guys?
That's how it does work, doesn't it? At least, that's how mine works...
mine tends to connect to whatever it was connected to first - e.g. if I have messenger open via GPRS and then connect to my WiFi network, it will still use the GPRS for it's internet connection. Even if I plug it into the PC, it still uses GPRS.
This can be costly.

GPRS Connection

Hi ,
My Hermes somehow gets automatically connected itself on GPRS Networking every certain time, What setting do I have to change to prevent it from happening and connect manually?
Use this. Its called NoData.
Btw, did you even try searching? Its HIGHLY recommended around here before posting.
Thanks very much !!!!
But will this application affect connectivity to GPRS when required?

Disable connecting online when Opera or any other internet prg. starts

Now when I start Opera or any other internet program, it automatically connect to 3g or Edge network, if there is no wlan.
But I'd like to be asked before connection is made or at least have the ability to disable going automatically online for programs, which use the internet.
Is this possible ?
Tnx
Andrej
You can use NoData:
http://www.modaco.com/content/pocket-pc-software/246171/new-free-utility-nodata/
I made a fictieve connection " No 3 G " and told the phone to connect to this
connection if it wants to go to the internet. Every time an internet releated prog is started I now get the no connection message and the link to the network settings...
So now I can choose to activate the working connection or to leave it disconnected...
Hope this is helpfull...

Click to collapse
You can do it yourself manually explained in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=452572 - last posting on that page.
Thanks 2 all

Some programs do not connecto to internet

Hi guys,
I posted once similar thread, but may be in wrong section.
My situation is following: Since some time, some apps are not able to connect to internet.
1. When I'm connected through WiFi, apps like QIP, IM+, they are just saying that there is no network available. Other programs like IE, Skype work perfectly.
2. When I'm not connected anywhere, IE and Skype on launch automatically start GPRS/3G connection and work fine. QIP and IM+ do not even attempt to start GPRS/3G connection and again cry for not available network!!!
So is it possible to debug this problem somehow? to find the place (may be registry?) where to change connection settings for IM+?
