What A2DP dramas? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Guess I must be missing something, but I can't see what all the A2DP dramas are about.
I have a new Jasjam and BlueAnt X5 stereo bluetooth headset and I got the skiping problem the first time I tried it. I soon discovered switching off WiFi completely fixed this and then I read about the reg hack to get stereo working.
Now my setup works perfectly.
Is there something wrong with me?

No, join the club. Worked right out of the box for me too.

"Completely"? How? Just keep it off in Connection Manager? Or something else/more? I've never used WiFi on my JASJAM and I still have skipping, even with the WIDCOMM stack.

Its all headset based. I'll add the ?BlueAnt X5 to the rather short list that works out of the box. The other ones I know of are the Nokia HS012W and the I-tech clips.

Shame. Looks like I need to find a replacement for my SE HBH-DS970.
Where can I find your list? Is it "Internal Use Only. For Sleuth255's eyes only." ?

Ahh, no there was meant to be a comma in there... switching off WiFi, (comma) completely fixed it.
Yes just in Comm Manager.

Thanks esseff. What excitement a single comma can cause . . .
I guess I'll wait for AKU3.3 before deciding for a replacement for the DS970.

I can also confirm that the Nokia HS-12W works right out of the box.

I don't have any problems with my I-Tech R35, but there are reports from other people who do. I always try to keep the number of simultaneous tasks down to a minimum, and close apps as I go along. Being tidy, and not loading the device, I intuitively believe helps reduce problems.
I don't think it's quite as simple as just being a headset problem, although it's certainly a contributory factor (another is definitely the distance - inversely proportional to distance squared - the headset unit is from the phone unit when using a2dp over bluetooth).

A2DP for WM5 coming soon...

I'm looking for a way to redirect my TomTom voice instructions from my MDA Vario through my Parrat CK3300 BT carkit sounding on my car-speakersystem by using the bluetooth stack. Now Parrot claims this isn't possible due to a phone limitation. I agree and think it's shortage of Microsoft WM5. Now I've looked up some info about Bluetooth Audio Distribution and found the following:
Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP)
AKU 2.0 for Windows Mobile 5.0 (for both, Smartphone and Pocket PC), which is expected to be released early next year (2006), will also includes support for the Bluetooth Advanced Audio Distribution Profile profile which is designed to transfer a stereo audio stream like music from the device to a headset or car radio.
A2DP is already implemented into the Samsung SGH-i300 Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition Smartphone, however this isn't based on Microsoft's A2DP implementation but Samsung added it itself.
(Refer to http://www.theunwired.net/?itemid=2779 for more info concerning this subject.)
So if this article is based on true facts, it means that Microsoft will soon release a patch for all WM5 based devices, which enables them to receive all audio (e.g. TomTom voice instructions) through the bluetooth stack.
Somebody knows more about this subject and if it's true that after having AKU 2.0 installed, you can hear the navigation instructions through your carkit or headset?
Many thanks,
Youri Festen
there is a facility on this forum that will allow you to switch audio to and from the bluetooth, not high quality or stereo but standard quality.
There is ?
Been loking around in the threads for quite a while, but didn't find a replicatable solution...
Here you go
Tried all kind of files, but no go...
All i want is ALL audio over the Carkit (Supertooth2). That is TomTom + Phone.
I don't care if i have to trun of the carkit to return audio to the phone. But i don't want to have to reset or something.
I have a XDA (Himalaya) btw. Still with Rom 1.72 00WWE 15/03/2004 (Ext Rom 1.72.125)
Tried all these :

whoa it worked
i know im reaching here, but really wanted to try to stream to the new cingular 2125 (aka hct). downloaded and ran the app with my iphono steroe headphones (luv em), got intresting results.
it worked. ran the app, pushed the button on the headphones, got music. call came in, answered (with auto answer) talked, and on hangup it went back to music. however, if i ran another app on the phone such as voice tag in contacts to initiate a call, it brought in the call, but on hangup went back to the speaker. had to run the toggle on again to get headphones working, not elegant - always want more - but im a happy guy til a2dp comes out for mobile 5. thanks!

I tried all so called "easy" fixes, hell, i've even got a whole dump of my registry, cut through all the BT + Audio and BT + Headset threads, here and on PDAPhonehome, Howardsforum, and the reduced-to-user-bla-bla on pocketPC-club.nl.
And still zilch.....
Ow, and don't think i'm someone who wants easy answers... Think again, i've been around quite a while on PPC forums and the lot....
What i do want/like is usefull answers ans clues on how this BT and Audio stuff works, beut even after reading some on MSDN i can't find a solution yet....
That's why i jumped in on this thread, i'm not going to reinvent the wheel if some allready has the solution: Tomtom and Phone audio over BT
So i'll stop writing now, and continiu searschin for a solution... There must be one...
Sorry mr high horse, wont bother trying to help next time just in case i might not be right, but then if everyone did that no one would answer anything.
The Wizard can do system Audio over bluetooth.
This has been proved with the easy hack that allows you to activiate voice dial using a BT headset.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=29837
MS Voice Command leaves the Audio Gateway open after initialising, whilst Voice Dialler closes it.
So maybe try installing Voice Command and doing the hack in the above referenced thread, and then see if you can launch Voice command from your car kit. This should leve the gateway open and allow all system sounds to stream to your BT kit until you hit the button again.

i have used the bt audio switch that started this thread to hear tomtom commands through my headset, and it works fine.

Bluetooth Stereo HT820 "Skipping"

Hello Folks, I have a T-Mobile MDA with the new ROM which allows for the bluetooth stereo, but there are constant pauses while listening to my tunes. I have made sure that everything is closed (program wise) except for WMP of course. I am currently using a Motorola HT820. Am I doing something wrong or is anyone else having this problem. Thanks in advance.

Nope. I have a K-JAM OC'ed to 247mhz and I also experience skipping from time to time. As much I have read, it's just as much a problem with the headphones as it is an underpowered device.
Some of the other things I have heard is the environment effects on the BT signal. In a busy urban environment, you might experience more skipping due to interference. To be honest, I use my HT's in NYC and I experience skipping, but not so much as to make the HT's unusable. I have not noticed any particular place or area where the HT's skip more than usual.
My "big" thing with the HT's are the size. I really would like to find a less bulky pair that works well with the K-JAM and the A2DP hack. I tried the Anycom's and they were pathetic. They would not work at all with the K-JAM and the controls were useless.
I just bought some from ebay and everything I read makes me wish I didnt! Thankfully they were only £36 but still. They dont look that big on the pics but I have read a lot of people saying they are really bulky and dont work very well with music. The idea of bluetooth headphones are great but I dont think any work with the wizrd good enough. Theres a post on the accesseries forum with a big discusion about this.
Actually, there was a big writeup here somewhere about a batch of HT820s that skipped. You could tell if you had the bad ones by looking at the serial#. They were generally bought on eBay and were from a different oem source. Search around for HT820 here and I believe you can find the thread.

yeah thas right. might be one of the unlucky ones that got a fritzed/crappy headset. i have the ht820s paired to a cingular 8125, and it only skips when i have more than 5 programs open. otherwise it's pristine.
try sending it back to motorola? i dunno, in my experience their cust service was fantastic.
 damn moto, why don't they recall their crappy stuff! Anywho I guess i'll have to hunt around and maybe even call moto...... Thanks for the feedback. 8)
is yours an actual ht820 or an asian knock off from ebay?? I personally have the asian imitation from ebay and with a few reg tweaks i can get it to play without skipping.. however i have heard people report the same skipping problem with the asian imitation's, other people who bought the actual real moto headset said they have no problems at all...
here is the cab i used to improve my skipping problem
The problem is the firmware in the headset. I am getting ready to run mine by the service center tomorrow here in Shanghai. I've been on a few of the Chinese forums and this seems to be a common occurance.
Mine skips when activesync is open which is all the time now that I use direct push email. Anybody else?
Shogunmark ... What does that .cab do?
it makes a few registry changes... i cant remember completely off the top of my head, i did grab that from another thread somewhere on this forum.... all i know is that it worked wonders for me... i will try to find that thread again and post a link to it...
I use a Motorola 820 with NO problems at all. I can walk all around my house with it on and the phone in the other room and it works fine.
I beleive i got one knock off and one real one. (don't ask why I have 2 ) And both behave in the same way.

Microsoft Voice Command 1.6 - ISSUES!

I just got the Microsoft Voice Command 1.6 (refer to as VC from here on) this morning and so far it has been quite disappointing.
I am using it on a Cingular 8525 with a Sony Ericsson HBH-GV435 headset (both are BT 2.0).
Right after the installation I noticed that the talk button on the headset did not trigger the VC so I did a power cycling.
After the power cycling the button will now trigger the VC as if I pushed the VC button on the phone but the problem is that it is not picking up my voice command via the headset but it is still listening from the phone's mic.
Any thoughts on this?

What is the probelm with the ver 1.6 and the TyTn? Is it just the TyTN rom or does it not function with the JasJam or the 8525 either?
Dp you guys know this by experience or is it posted somewhere?
PocketPCThoughts list the 8525 as a "compatible device".
The problem will affect all Hermes devices, and it will probably require a patch / a new dll and/or a registry hack to make things work properly. It should work, but it doesn't, and this goes to show you what a poor job of testing was done before product release.
If the single biggest additional feature/function (ie, bluetooth support) doesn't work properly, why was it shipped?

First: Hermes generally does not work with BT2.0, I guess, especially my MDAvario2 does not...
I'm using a BT Headset HBH608, which was perfectly working with every phone I've ever tried...
Second: VC1.6 could not be installed on Vario2' and Hermes Devices at all, getting an error message...
VC1.5 (engl.) works, not perfect, but it usually works...

What do you mean it cant be installed. I have it installed on a TyTn and it works perfectly. I am not using a BT headset, so cant comment on that.
I've got v1.6 on an 8525 and it seems to working fine.
what exactly are the problems others are having with Hermes devices?
@DigitalFX: Hermes does support Bluetooth 2.0, but not Enhanced Data Rate.
@JCrompton: MSVC 1.6 does not route sounds/commands properly through a Bluetooth headset on the Hermes. You may be able to initiate a call with your headset button, but you'll be using the mic/speaker on the Hermes to complete it. Also, sounds/announcements are not working as advertised. HTC and M$ are working on a patch.

Wow! Have you done any registry hacks? I'd love to see what your Voice Command keys look like....
TIA,
Richard
I have an 8525 also, and 1.6 works as MS says it does.
The headset button activates voice command, the Beep occurs on the 8525, and the mike on the 8525 listens for input. If I say, Dial ... or Call... then the call works fine on the BT headset like expected.
I know a patch is in the works to fix this issue, and when they do, 1.6 is superior to 1.5 for voice interpretation.
However, for now, I have 1.5 working perfectly fine. All features work, and all I had to do was enter/change 2 registry keys (only 1 was necessary)

So how loud do you have to shout for the mike on the 8525 to hear you if the phone is in the next room, or in your purse or you're driving? It might be the way MS intended it to work, but I doubt it.
[RANT]
I can't believe that MS wouldn't have caught this problem during beta testing. Speaks volumes (pun intended) for the current state of software development and testing at MS. Anyone know if MS Reader works with WM5 yet? How about full multi-user support for ActiveSync? Win XP has been around for years now with this funtionality. And while I am on my rant, how about SP3 for Win XP? Currently we would have to download and install over 70 (!) critical patches to SP2 just to get our computers to the dynamic state they are at today. Come on MS, enough is enough. Get your s#!* together!!

It does not work for me too...

Bluetooth AD2P & Carkit connection

There are a lot of problems with carkit connections & the HD2.
I tried several things to get it working without success.
When I try to connect to the JVC KD-AVX44 it connects but give no sound at all. (making 2 connections, handsfree & stereo audio)
Then I tried the registry tweak mentioned into this forum and had success once. I was very happy because also the title track was shown onto the JVC display and also the phone was functioning ok both ways.
The sound trough AD2P was perfect. Only one time.
After that i get a lot of disconnects.
Then I tried to make only connection with the phone function and this is working ok now. When I want to make the connection trough AD2P then the problem is back. Also when you make it without making the phone connection
So I think the problem lies into the stereo connection. For instance when you skip a track onto the JVC then the connection will be lost and reconect again and giving 2 seconds of sound and then it's quiet again.
Also when to 2 connections exists the phone is blocked by incomming calls because it's thinking it's connected so the earpiece & mic are dead at that time. And also the radio.
Did you try the LineSpeed setting to 256 in the AV key of the Widcomm registry settings ?
Don't know if it could help in your case but it did for me, I don't have disconnects with my Sony headphones anymore and sound is better.

Ok thx I will give it a try and post the results.

Change Registry setting:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\Sys
Add the DWORD setting COD=5374476
This makes devices see the HD2 as a 'Normal' phone

Strange, so far I didn't experience any disconnection.
I have conversations during more than 20 minutes daily and line quality is far better than with my Diamond, with no drops.
With the Diamond I had the BT stopping regularily on the phone, it was very annoying because I always discovered it when receiving a call and not being able to answer.
So far it didn't happen on the HD2, but it is really too soon to jump to any conclusion.
I don't use A2DP in the car as I didn't order the option, which I viewed as useless because the hard disk capacity of the iDrive is sufficient to hold a good collection, the audio quality and functionality is much better and I can still connect the phone to the USB plug as mass storage if I want to play or transfer something from it or any memory stick or external HD.
So maybe not having the A2DP profile active may help also.
I also not any problem with my old HTD HD and Cruize ... but with HD2 i have this issue.
Today i receive answer of my ticket from HTC: they offer me to contact with BMW and to ask them why they not support HD2 ... I think this is stupid becouse every new device must support old protocols and older devices.
Now the choice is to change Car or Phone ... sorry but HD2 not have any chance to survive.

Yes how lousy is that
Got the same answer first, but they realised that BMW coudn't recall thousands of vehicles to do a BT upgrade just because HTC decided to adopt the crapy Widcomm BT stack.
So they say they are working on a fix, but given how many issues there are with this stack, they better switch back to the old MS stack instead.
To be clear, it is the Widcomm stack at fault here, not BMW. Every single phone not equipped with this stack, I could try on the BMW, worked flawlesly.
I hope they will recognise this officialy and not blame the others each time a customer opens a ticket about these flaws.
In the meantime, the registry hack works perfectly for handsfree profile, but it seems it doesn't fix everything when the A2DP profile is activated.

After much playing around - I found a linespeed of 300 works best for the HD2. 256 still has questionable quality and 320 for some reason skips a lot. Reducing it to 300 seems to be a workable equilibrium!
