I seem to have ruined my tytn's windows installation - Windows Mobile Development and Hacking General

overwrite some windows files (was warned with a prompt) which were in my rom, and now the thing hangs every time it boots. Where do I start? What should I read? How can I fix this?
Thanks,
-Jason

The solution is simple.
First, I'd like to welcome you to the forum.
Second I am a bit tempted to tell you to reinstall windows using a boot disk or something, but that would just be mean.
The whole point of ROM (Read Only Memory) is that you can't screw up the OS.
So all you need to do is preform a hard reset. Your phone will be as good as new.
Hold both softkeys (-) while pressing reset button and follow the directions on the screen.
Good luck, and next time pleas post this type of questions in the TyTN / Hermes forum.

Problems after WM6 Upgrade :(

After (I think) successfully upgrading to WM6, I've had a few problems...
1) I can't seem to soft reset anymore (holding down Power at the top + the reset button)...it seems the only way I can now reset my unit is by physically removing the battery...
2) I can't access the bootloader SERIAL mode...I can access the options for the kernel hive and formatting storage, but no success being able to get into USB mode to reflash my unit
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated - I only bought this phone on Friday
1. This was hard reset in WM2003 - for soft reset just press the reset button
2. You need to press and hold power+reset+record(WMP) buttons at the same time
I suggest you read WIKI first before asking questions which are answered a million times
Thank you for the prompt reply.
I can understand your frustration with many people constantly asking these questions, but please don't make me feel like an idiot when I've actually read the Wiki and tried Googling the problem prior to posting.
To clarify, I know *how* to access the SERIAL option (I had to do it to upgrade from 2003 to WM6 to begin with). My point is that holding Reset+Power+Record doesn't work anymore. It just continues the boot process and goes straight to the Windows Mobile splash screen. The reset button, in and of itself, does nothing at all. I've tried everything from just tapping it a few times to pressing and holding it for upwards of 30 seconds...but it doesn't seem to do anything for me.
Try to hold and press power+record+cam buttons then press reset while holding those buttons.
Yeah, it does nothing...I have a feeling that the actual reset button is no longer working on the unit...not sure if that's to do with the upgrade to WM6, or if it's a hardware problem and just happens to be coincidence :-/
don't take xplode's advise wrongly. it's just that reading AND understanding the WIKI is important especially for beginners like yourself.
if you think you've successfully upgraded to WM6, it's probably because of the "Congratulations" message that was displayed... well, you're almost there, though not quite.
try to fully understand the no/yes/yes instruction in the WIKI... the reset+power+record combination is NOT what you should be doing. it has been replaced by another... here's the thread that could guide you... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327978&highlight=kitl
and here's the pertinent wiki page...
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM6_WizzardUpgrade4
good luck and welcome to the BA community.
Anyway if this that you try to explain is that the hardware buttons no longer work, you can try the MTTY method, if you have read the wiki you already know what exactly to do
Thanks raymonds, I will try not to, but I just don't want people thinking I'm yet another new member that doesn't read anything before posting, because I know how much I hate that too...I tried reading up on my problems for 4 hours last night before deciding to post because I couldn't find anything else to help.
I have successfully upgraded to WM6 and went through the no/yes/yes steps - the issue is that I want to go back to WM2003 or WM5...they seemed far less problematic for my phone for some reason..one problem I'm facing now is that my BA, pure and simple, no longer recognizes that I have a cellular carrier at all, making it essentially useless as a phone. When I try to go into SIM Manager, it hangs for a while, then goes into the screen saying that only emergency calls can be made...but when I try to put in my PIN, it says "Unknown SIM error", though the SIM works fine in my other phone...
I'm trying to use the Power/Reset/Record to either try reflashing in the hopes that'll resolve my issues, or downgrade...either way, it's not allowing me to do so, and I obviously can't do this while the phone is booted into WM6. It just seems like the reset button is no longer working, since neither combination that uses it (Power+Reset or Power+Camera+Reset) works anymore.
try to downgrade with MAUpgradeUT_NOID.exe, and then reupgrade, another thing you can do is to reflash the radio rom. The MTTY method resets bootloader settings which may be the solution to your problem.
MTTY under Windows XP is explained HERE
xplode, mtty requires one to do the power+reset+record combination, which he currently cannot do.
is this a second-hand unit?
Hm, there was another way to put your device into bootloader mode but i have never tryed it, in most of the WM2003 upgrades there was EnterBL.exe, and when you copy it to the device and execute it the device goes to bootloader mode...
but it also creates problems - read here
Also i had problems in the past with the latest version of MTTY (1.45) and used previous one 1.01 which worked like a charm
Sweet - thanks xplode and raymonds for your time.
Unfortunately I can't try these as I am at work right now, but I do appreciate the suggestions and will try them as soon as I get home.
If I can't get it to work, oh well - off to the service depot and a (probably) expensive lesson learned.
Please keep us updated, about your issue
Thanks guys...
So, I'm taking it that the radio stack is now corrupt, since it's no longer even showing a version number on my BA. I tried the methods xplode suggested - when I enter the unit into KITL mode, I take it I'm supposed to use USB Active as the transport method, since MTTY won't recognize a device otherwise, and my phone just boots into Windows from that point.
When I try to run MTTY though, all it does is display "kITLª" over and over again...I'm not sure if that's normal, or even how to enter a prompt of some kind...
I'm starting to wonder if maybe I should just take it to the depot, pay the $75 I was quoted, and learn my lesson... :-/
Any other suggestions, or am I just totally doing what you suggested wrong?
You do not need to enter KITL because this is used to debug your WM build using Platform builder
Just try to put your device to botloader mode and then use MTTY to instruct the bootloader what to do, or just reflash radio and then new rom

Cincular 8525 stuck in Bootloader

I have a Cingular 8525 running WM5 that is stuck in bootloader screen. I have tried to soft and hard reset ... just boots back to the same screen, I can't turn it off once in the screen and when i sync via usb to the pc i get the message that the "usb device that is connected is malfunctioning" I have not done any upgrading at all and the phone worked perfectly right up till the time i powered it down and restarted into the bootloader screen.
Please can someone out there help me with this issue?

Manage to solve the problem ...thanks WIKI !!
Go to Bootloader mode: Hold side OK and POWER buttons together and reset with stylus
Then Flash to any ROM you want !!
Thanks .... But
Thanks for the reply ... but i have no idea how to do what you tell me, I am new to all this phone "stuff" as a matter of fact this is the first time that i am ever using one of these forums. I have read till i am cross eyed but dont actually understand what you are talking about ... now don't let that scare you away as i am willing to learn and i am not braindead ... you all had to start sometime in this, not so. I get that i need to try and reflash my rom...
so is there some type of rom update software that i need? ... what is a hard SPL?? ... and who is Schaps?? .. sorry guys to do this to you but i would like to get into this game and i need some ( well maybe a lot ) of pointers.
Thanks for your time.
1. Search for "mr vanxs guide" so you have an idea on what you're doing.
2. OK, as Asfarizal said "Go to Bootloader mode: Hold side OK and POWER buttons together and reset with stylus". If you cant work out what the buttons are, go to the manual. it will tell you.
3. type in "hard SPL" in search on the forum & download the .zip or .rar file. this should have 2 files inside when opened,
a). RUUWrapper.exe and
b). RUU_signed.nbh
sync Hermes and double click .exe file. follow prompts.
4. find a rom that you want (would suggest TNT SE as a fairly good rom for noobs... good and stable, no problems...) Again download, then (and this is personel preference) format an sd card fat 32 and copy RUU_signed.nbh into root directory. Rename it Hermimg.nbh. Put into Phone and put into bootloader(make sure the battery is more than 50%) follow prompts. This should get you out of trouble. You can also sync your Phone and double click on the RUUWrapper.exe HOWEVER, if you should reset your computer, pull out the usb cable or have anything else happen to the computer that interrupts the flashm, you could end up with a worse brick than you have now. try to read up on flashing (search for "mr vanxs guide") and this should help you a lot if you have other questions. Good luck and happy flashing......
Thank You
I will follow the instructions you gave and try to get it going this weekend.
Thank you so much for your time

Looks like you've got a lot of reading to do, and a problem to sort out. Firstly a couple of answers...
Schaps is a Rom Cooking guru (makes custom versions of WM5, WM6 etc). When you get your phone sorted out I'd recommend trying one of his roms.
Hard SPL. The SPL is part of the bootloader which effectively dictates how a rom is flashed and what roms can be flashed. HardSPL is a custom version of this which allows you to flash any rom from any carrier. It also protects against a bad flash in many cases. It is recommended before you try flashing any new roms or radio roms. Use Hard-SPL-V7 at the bottom of the first post here.
The Rom upgrading software is contained in any of the cooked or carrier supplied roms. It is normally a .zip file which cotains 2 files: xxxxxRUU.exe and RUU_signed.nbh. You run the .exe file from your PC when connected to your phone via USB. More details of how to do this are in MrVanx's guides. Also other resources here.
Now to try to sort your phone out...
What is displayed on your screen when in bootloader mode? It should be something like this:
HERM200
IPL-1.04
HERM200
SPL-2.10.Olipro (This is HardSPL V7)
If you don't have an Olipro SPL then you need to get HardSPL onto your phone. If you haven't done any upgrading and have had the phone from new then I guess you don't have hardSPL.
Now you need to fix your USB Malfunctioning problem. I can't help too much here except to suggest trying a different cable, different USB port or different PC. Also, if you are running Vista try an XP maxhine. When you connect to the PC does your phone show Serial or USB on the screen? If you can't get a USB connection, all is not lost - you can re-flash your rom using an SD card, method here.
There is a thread about un-bricking phones which may help.
There are various diagnostic tools (which can also screw your phone if used incorrectly). The favourite of these is MTTY but you need a USB connection to use this.
If your phone is in warranty I'd recommend getting your supplier to sort it out, but if not I'd try to re-flash an ORIGINAL supplier rom (Cingular I guess). You can get links to the official supplier roms here.
I think (might be wrong) that sometimes when stuck in bootloader you need to flash an official rom, not a cooked one to recover your phone - then you can run HardSPL and then flash cooked roms again.
Cingular 8525 stuck in bootloader
Thanks for the reply ... lots of great input.
Now to answer some of your questions.
1) When I power up the phone (only pushing the power button ) it goes straight into the bootloader screen without pushing any other buttons, and it displays
HERM100
IPL-1.01
HERM100
SPL-1.06
Then at the bottom in the white bar it says "Serial"
The only way that i have found to power it down again is to remove the battery, there is no response from any single buttons after it is in bootloader
the soft reset and hard reset work but it just goes right back to the bootloader screen after.
2) The USB malfunction. This only started after the phone "crashed" and before that it worked great ... well i only used it to sync up to my work pc for the contacts and to get pictures onto my hard drive.
all the PC's that i use are running XP. I have tried my home PC and my Laptop
and the work PC and all of them have their own cables and they all say the same thing ... "the USB device is malfunctioning"
I am sure that when i get the phone going again the USB will start to function again.
3) Phone warranty ... I bought the phone off e-bay from a store in new york about 10 months ago as a "new unlocked cingular 8525" it was new and unlocked, but i have no idea how they unlocked it. I would assume that there would be no warranty now and in any case i live in Canada and would have to ship it down to the states to an AT&T repair center and that sounds like a nightmare to me with the customs and so on.
I will give you a little more background on the problem. the phone worked like a charm without any problems at all for the 10 months that i had it, then the morning of the crash the phones alarm did not go off in the morning and i was almost late for work ... i did not pay it any further attention untill at 3:26pm
that afternoon the alarm went off ??????? (it was set for 6:05am) so i checked the main clock time, it was right. I then checked the alarm time, it was right ??? So i figured that something must have just got confused, so i powered down the phone with the power button to just restart it and while it was powered down i removed the battery to take the oportunity to to clean all those fuzzies and dust that collect in the battery compartment out and put it all together and powered it up again (just by pushing the power button) and this wierd red, green, blue and white screen appeared and that is all that i have seen since ???
I hope that answers your questions and i will start going through the links that you sent and get to reading ... will there be a pop quiz ... lol
Thanks again for your time and i very much appreciate all the time that all of you have spent on me and my phone ..... I know that you all just feel bad for me because i now have to use a Motorolla V551 ... lol
Great Work

kirtibas
kirtibas, sorry it took so long to reply, 1st thing I'd do is upgrade to SPL 2.10 olipro. This is safer to use than others. then I'd suggest reflashing a stock rom to see if that works. After stock rom works then use a cooked rom as your heart desires... Cheers...

HTC Polaris/Cruise (XDA Orbit 2) bricked.

Hi everyone,
I recently received an XDA Orbit 2, literally, charged it for 2 hours, and when it was full charged, I started using it, I had it for about 2 months now, and recently I changed my home Internet connection to wireless (It's a B & G connection) so my laptop connects fine, and when I tried to connect my XDA Orbit 2, it connected and then soft-reset itself, and now it just loads the O2 screen, then Windows Mobile screen with the volume controller and I can't do anything else so here's what I have tried so far:
- Soft reset
- Removed battery and SIM
- Since I can't access phone's menu at all, I tried to Hard Reset method by holding the 2 soft key, reset, and the power button - So I get the warning that everything will be lost and to press 'Send' to continue, so I press the green key, and soft resets and goes back to the same situation again.
- The latest thing I tried is to load the Hard-SPL into the SDCard which has been formatted to FAT32, so loaded the POLAIMG.nbh into the root. and loaded the phone into BootLoader mode (Camera and reset buttons). It loads the memory card and just says 'Loading ... ' I left it for about an hour, until the battery died completely (I'm sure it's not supposed to take that long). And still the same problem.
I'm not sure if this phone is now bricked, can anyone help me plesae. I really need this to start working again, I don't have any info. on it. (Everything was sync. previously).
Kind regards,
Since you havent really messed with SPL, i would say to take it back, since its still into warranty.
Thanks for the reply, I'm not actually in the UK and will be overseas for a while. I don't really mind experimenting so I would appreciate any advise on this matter. Thanks again.

I assume just boots into bootloader and then stays there?
If yes you culd try searching out a thread on MTTY and recovery from boot loader but I dont know how well that would work on polaris as I have not tried it yet.

Thanks for the reply, I heard about the MTTY process, but I've no clue on how to do it, since the phone can't connect in ActiveSync mode. Is there a thread or WiKi guide out there?

You need to do Hard Reset, all information will be wiped off. To do hard reset, hold down the:
1.Press and hold the GPS/MESSAGING and INTERNET EXPLORER
buttons, and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET
button at the bottom of your device.
2. Release the RESET button, but
continue pressing the GPS/
MESSAGING and INTERNET
EXPLORER buttons until you
see this message on the

to manufacturer default.
Press Send to restore
manufacturer default, or
press other keys to cancel.
3. Release the buttons, and then press SEND on your device to perform
the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.
Good luck.

My Experiences installing a ROM on the AT&T Pure

Just installed "Duttys Topaz Leo Holy Grail R1 [LP]" on my AT&T Pure and I thought I would add some comments for the rest of you considering upgrading your "Pure." Overall the upgrade was a good idea. Lots of additional functionality, and the ROM is fast and works well. Here are a few comments;
1. When I tried to use the HARD-SPL in automatic mode, it would never connect to the phone. I even tried installed the HARD-SPL manual CAB on my phone but that didnt work either, it just froze the phone with the old AT&T ROM. Instead I downloaded the CAB that was mentioned in one of the error messages that HARD_SPL gave me. Once I installed that, HARD-SPL worked fine.
2. No more AT&T Navigator. If this is a tool you use, its gone. You can replace it with a TeleNav download however. I am using the download for the "Tilt" and while not perfect, it works. You can download it at;
http://tinyurl.com/telenavdownload
3. The Pure came with a very nifty and effective voice dialing feature that requires no training. I found it useful and accurate but it too is gone (if I am wrong, please let me know!). The new ROM comes with a CAB that permits voice dialing but it requires training and is not nearly as sophisticated but it works.
4. This new ROM is missing an applications tab, instead app shortcuts are integrated with the home screen. While this is nice there is no menu option that says "All Programs." If you want to run a program that is not in one of your 9 shortcuts, you have to go to the start menu and leave the TouchFlo system and go into Windows Mobile. This is pretty annoying actually (no fault of Dutty of course, its a HTC issue).
Other than these four things, I am pretty happy with the ROM and the install was pretty painless.
jeremiah.... I also have a htc pure and I am planning to flash the rom to duttys or any other rom... but I am new to this and I am looking at the steps.
1. I need to use the Hard-Spl first and then hard reset the phone right ?(but how do i hard reset the HTC pure ? I cannot find the reset button I saw a video for HTC diamond 2 but not for htc pure can you tell me how you reset the phone ?)
2. Then I use the ROM to install right ?
Please help me with the steps required
UPDATE: Restoring AT&T Navigator on the AT&T Pure
In a previous post I said that when you update the ROM on the Pure you lose AT&T Navigator and had to use a version of TeleNav for the Tilt instead. Well I have found a link on the TeleNav site to download the Pure version of AT&T Navigator. Here it is and enjoy...

mshenoy4573,
Don't worry about the hard reset, it is not required actually. The ROM upgrade is really quite simple. Yes, the first thing you need to do is run HARD-SPL. If all goes well, you will get the tri-color screen on your phone and it will install no problem. If you are like me, it won't work the first time. If it just hangs or you get an error message, here is what to do.
Do NOT install the manual cab mentioned in the HARD-SPL instructions, it just froze up my phone. Instead, read the error message. You will see that it gives you instructions for downloading and installing a different CAB file. The error message gives you the URL to use, do that.
Once you download and install that CAB file, run HARD_SPL again and it should install no problem. Just let the phone reboot and then with your phone connected to your windows PC, install the ROM of your choice by running the "wrapper" program. Its a piece of cake really.
Remember you will lose the nifty MS Voice Command application and I don't know how to get it back. In a previous post I give a link to download the AT&T Navigator if you are interested. Good luck!
If you don't know where the reset button on the Pure is....
I suggest you familiarize yourself more with the basic functions of the machine before installing (bricking <BG>) a new Rom!
Read the Faqs, and Stickys, All the info is there, but you do have to dig in.
No one really wants to assume the liability of completely nursemaiding
someone who hasn't even tried to find out by reading the wealth of info on
this site.
Be that as it may I'll try to pay some of my Karmic newbie dues here <BG>
On the Pure, Compact V and Diamond 2 (All the HTC Topaz series)
the reset button is somewhat cleverly hidden in the stylus hole
When you remove the stylus you will see a red dot inside the opening
that is the reset "button"
If you gently push the red area you will hear a click and the machine
will "warm" reset . Try it, it will not hurt anything and actually should be done periodically to free up memory every now and then or if your Pure is acting sluggish.
ONLY After you reburn your ROM you will want to perform a "Cold" or Hard
Reset as well, (This clears additional system memory removes all installed software and re-initializes some of the internal parameters to default factory values even with a new ROM) This should only be done right after a new rom is flashed in or maybe if you have really hosed up your machine and wish to start from scratch.
To Perform a Cold Reset you press both Up and Down Volume buttons Simultaniously and then depress the Red (warm) Reset button described above (in warm reset)
The other special button sequence is used to enter boot mode and actually burn
a new Rom (After you've copied it to the Device)
Ths is done by first turning the device off,
hold the Power/Standby button (top of Phone) until unit is off
(not just standby) and then while still off
Depressing Vol Down button (just the the one button)
and then simultaneously pressinging the Power On button (hold them both a few seconds)
This will bring you to the famous Tri-colored Boot mode screen (you can't miss it)
This is one of the ways to start the actual Rom burn/Flash/installation but there are menu options here so you can bail out if you are not ready to burn at this time
What you really should consider is bringing up this boot screen
and reading the info on it (write it ALL down)
But specicically notice the number of the HSPL displayed.
The Stock ATT Pure will say HSPL 1.83.0000 (thats the locked OEM ATT HSPL) After you sucessfully burn your new HSPL
if you bring up this screen it will say HSPL 1.83.Olinex
That is what you need to see before you can burn a new ROM!
I suggest you bring up that boot screen familiarize yourself with it
It wont hurt anything.
(verify yours now says 1.83.000 and after HSPL install says 1.83.Olinex)
Another few Pointer for the Pure
You can "upgrade" the HSPL in one sitting, your machine will still run
after the HSPL has been upgraded. You can check it out and upgrade the Rom
at a separate time. (So you can exhale!<BG> if the HSPL "upgrade" was good)
Its been a while but I'm pretty sure the instructions did not require you to
Cold Reset the machine before upgrading either the HSPL or the Firmware
(but definately afterwards) And since I remember you needed a USB and internet connection you couldnt have deleted the Activesync partnerships
(which a cold reset does, Anyone?) Anyway Just follow the instructions!
Last note On the Pure
I could not install the HSPL until I loaded "enablerapinew.cab"
this file is mentioned in the Docs and available as a link in them
I'm fairly sure all Pures will need to install it on there device as well.
Good Luck
Like the original poster I also installed Dutty's HGR1 and love it
I did have some minor anomolies because I did NOT do a
Cold Reset AFTER originally installing the new Rom firmware.
Most have been solved by the Cold Reset and re-installation of all my
software (PIA but worth it) but there are still some very minor known bugs
KJL
Actually cold reset on a Pure is "hold vol up and down, press power button", not the soft reset one. Of course do it with phone off to start with.
As for the voice dial feature on stock Pure - it's called Voice Command (Microsoft feature).
If you want it back after upgrading a rom search this forum for a Voice command cab. Install it, you probably gonna get an error at the installation but all should work ok. You can see it installed in settings/personal.

Cold Reset after re-flashing Rom

Hi
Its interesting you said that
you know thats what I originally thought and read myself
but not so sure now (I've seen both choices mentioned)
I used the Vup+ Vdown +Pwr after the first time I re-flashed my Pure
If I'm not mistaken, it just brought up the Tri-color screen and I seem to remember some confusion on my part as how to run the new software from there? (didn't want to re-flash a second time) I think I just hit reset??
Well I know I had a bit of uncertainty at the time if I had actually Cold reset
I eventually developed some anomolies in the system and decided to
re-flash and start from scratch.
This 2nd time I used Vup + Vdown + red reset
after reflashing and I had very clear prompts asking me to confirm that
I would be deleating all my data and installed programs. Which of course I did
and it then rebooted, this felt much more "concrete" than my original experience??
(Now this could also be due to the new firmware and HSPL as well? I guess its not "really" a Pure anymore after re-flash)
But I'm wondering if on my first Re-flash I didn't manage to NOT hold both
Vup and Vdown together and hitting Pwr just brought me to boot mode instead of Cold Reset mode. (very easy to do)
Anyway I do know for a fact I used Vup+Vdwn + Red Reset this last time
and it will work on the re-flashed Rom and everything has been fine and
very stable since (Loving Dutty's HGR1)
Just my experiences as I can best remember and interpret them
Be great if we got another few inputs on this
KJL
Thanks Ken,
Might work both ways, I remember having to confirm I want my phone to a clean original state.
On Dutty's HG - hope he can fix autotime when changing time zone
My problem is active sync wont stay connected when it my phone goes to the red, green and blue screen during the flash process. Any ideas how to fix this?

You might need to install the extra cab then first. Not sure about that, but you can probably get an indication of what to do by reading through some of the recent posts in the hard spl thread.
BTW, I just upgraded my Pure to Dutty's Holy Grail R3 (the Leo phonecanvas version). It works great. So far it seems like the R1 in many respects.
First thing you'll want to do is turn off the weather animation on the front page by selecting a non-animated wallpaper. That homescreen animation is designed for the HD2, which has a processor twice as fast as the TD2 or Pure. So I find that it slows things down too much for scrolling back and forth with the quicklaunch applications. But that's just me.
Another tip is to get the 3G icon back by changing the Reg Key: HKLM/Software/OEM/RIL/EnableHSDPAIcon to 0.
I love the Pure hardware. I just wish somebody would release a matte finish back cover to avoid the fingerprints.

Need help! Rom update crashed hd2

I tried flashing the following to my HD2. Other ROMs have worked fine.
Duttys_Leo_Sense_2.5_5.2.23540.5.5.0_2.10_HG_V1_Radio_2.08.50.08_2_WWE
This time, when resetting it's hanging on the O2 screen. This means I can't get into the phone to try reflashing. How do I fix this please?!!!

You should take a look at the mtty thread if you want to recover from a bad flash...
Grtz,
Degake
Crap. I know nothing about this. noob!
This is going to be long and difficult isn't it?

If you post your problem in that thread, the experts over there will give you all the detailed steps and it won't be so bad after all
And I think that anything would be better than to buy a new HD2?
Grtz,
Degake
No, but you shoulda read the n00b flashing guide before flashing...do you have HSPL on your phone? Do you have it SIM-unlocked? Did you flash using activesync or sd card?

I did. I have most rcent HSPL, flashing using activesync and have done 4 "successfull" ROM upgrades.
This one appeared to be fine but when it did auto-reset it's now hanging and not booting into anything useful.
Thanks degake.
If a hard reset doesn't help then MTTY might be the only way out
Problem FIXED
Solution: Followed these steps
"This will remove the need for users, x64 in particular, to use “Unsigned Drivers.” Also since in Vista SP2 (x64 & x86) they removed the “F8” options Completely!
Files Needed:
Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider
Remove Watermark V0.8
1: Run the Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider and select “ENABLE TEST MODE” and Press Next
2: There will be a warning to REBOOT, Press “OK”
3: Go Back to Driver Signature Enforcement Overrider Select “Exit” then Click “Next”
4: REBOOT
5: Run the “Remove Watermark V0.8” for you OS type (x64 or x84)
6: In the Command Window type “Y” and wait for the process to complete
7: Once complete REBOOT your system and begin the driver install"
listed in post 2
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623356
Then
*Bring device into bootloader (Reset + Hold Vol Down), This will show the Red, Blue, Green screen showing "Serial"
From here I was able to re-run the customRRU file to flash the ROM again. (this may have been jumping the gun a little!)
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction guys.
that'll be MTTY!! Only had to use it once myself but it's a god send

Hi folks,
Had the same problem today with a bad flash, phone wouldnt boot up past o2 welcome screen etc etc.
I fixed it by just going into bootloader (hold volume down button on the side of the device while holding the power button down for 3 seconds) and installing the o2 stock (1.43) rom from my pc.
Edit: Cant seem to post the link as im a new user but "Football" posted it on this forum on 23rd of December if you need to search for it.
Sorry if this seems like a double post of the OPs solution but some people could be confused by the MTTY thread (I was) when in reality theres no need to even look at it.
Hope this helps someone.
Greg
Thanks for posting that comment. I did wonder if MTTY had anything to do with the solution (I dont even understand properly what MTTY is!) so I posted everything I did.
I had a feeling that I could have avoided those steps and just gone straight to the bootloader and you've proved me right. it's a quick and easy solution to a slightly scary problem!
