Screen cracked - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

This evening i cracked my mda vario 2 screen. what is the best solution?
-buy a 2nd hand tytn
-bring back for repair (warranyt?)
or
can i replace this screen with the one from a MDA vario 1 does anybody know if thats the same
or i need to find a brick vario2 (does anyone in the netherlands have one?)
what do you think?

I'd go for warranty option.
Someone tried the wizard screen and though it fits it is not quite the same see this thread:

Yep, those ebay pics look the same as the ones (some anyway) as the ones on the first post of the thread I gave above.
It can be tricky, but crtainly not impossible with a little skill to change the screen. for dismantling see the following link and also the wiki under Hermes Hardware overview pictures.

how to disassemble o2 atom xda

I somehow managed to get water in my screen so now the tapping function doesnt work. I dont know what else to do. I am currently in Beijing and bought it second hand so I'm not sure if the warranty is still in place and if so how abouts to get it to a retailer. The only thing I want to do now is try to open it up and see if I can try to clean up the moisture and water since its still there. I tried opening it but there are only two screws at the bottom back side of the unit that are available to me to get to. I'm not sure how to go about and disassembling the whole thing. The pda is really important to me since I use it as a chinese dictionary. I dont know what else to do. Any help would be appreciated. Bye

Firstly, you can check if it is still under warranty by registering it on O2 website, you will need the original receipt to claim warranty (and moisture damage is not covered by warranty). Secondly, if you want to fix it yourself and I dare say its too late as the battery would need to be removed immediately as moisture enters the device, even if you manage to get an LCD (roughly US$250)and you're able to fit it there's a posibility the main board and components are damaged too. However, I have repaired to some degree with many tedious hours of careful cleaning with pure Ethanol. My advice to you is send it to O2 for repair and do not put the battery into device!
can you tell me how to take it apart? everything seems to be working fine, just that certain areas on the screen i can't tap. I know there are two screws at the bottom back side of the unit where it says void. But other than that I dont know what else to do to get the unit open.

the housing for the camera must be removed, very carefully, under that cover are two more screws.

TyTN LCD Screen Replacement...

I (my 1.5 year old daughter) managed to crack the LCD display on my new TyTN(!!!). I tried transplanting in it an old HTC Wizard display that I had, which turns on as blank white and therefore doesn't help me... I have been looking on ebay and found a company from HK that sells new displays. They have generation 1 or 2 types. see here: http://cgi.ebay.com/Full-LCD-Screen...hZ015QQcategoryZ41343QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItem
I assume this is probably the problem I have (??) I guess the display generations are different.
Does anybody have any insight into this? Has anybody replaced an LCD display in their TyTN?
I'll be happy to provide a detailed step-by-step on how to do the replacement if anybody is in the same #$%@y situation I am in...
I'd greatly appreciate any information... I need my phone back...
I deleted your duplicate post in the Upgrading forum btw.
T-mobile Vario II
Hi I have a Tytn from T-mobile (the Vario II). I've been searching here in the uk for a LCD screen also and cannot find one for this anywhere! If you figure it out please let me know, I would be extremely grateful. Taking it to a place called Carphone warhouse tomorrow hopefully they can repair it. Will let you know thanks.
Don't know if it will help you or not, but here it is the part number of HTC TyTN screen, I got it on the description sheet after service center fixed screen alignment issue on mine:
Code: HTC60H00037-01M
Description: TFT-LCD MODULE, TD028STEB1, NEW SUNPLUS, TOPPOLY, TYTN
It was an HTC TyTN with S/N HTC628.
Also try to google this.

OK, so I first tried to place a display from a dead HTC-Wizard in my TyTN - which does not work. It fits perfectly, but all I get is a white screen and somehow it is draining the battery in 1/2 a day. They must have changed something in the display. For now I am only using my phone via voice command to place and receive calls :-(
I ordered a new display from http://stores.ebay.com/hitechhk
They claim as I mentioned to have TyTN displays with generation 1 or 2 although the image says they are displays for O2 mini. I sent a query asking what generation would I need based on photos of my broken display (which looked different than both!). I got a reply that their tech was looking at the pictures to determine which display I need and then got a response that the item shipped - that's communicating across the globe for you... Anyway, my new display is on the way and hopefully it works. I have no idea what they shipped.
I looked at some of the links posted by mikechannon and pof above and these sites seem more B2B (no place to place an order).
Anyway, I'll let you know as soon as it arrives (it shipped 2 days ago) if I'm lucky or not. If so - it's a pretty easy solution. If not...
OK, I am very confused now...
I got my display yesterday from hightechhk - it is not compatible.
Quite frankly, it is identical to my old HTC wizard display and only produces a blank white screen on the TyTN.
Note that this is part number TD028STEB1 and despite the previous mentions that this is TyTN compatible - it is not in my case...
I am back to square one - trying to get an exchange / refund from hightechhk.
Otherwise, my only route will be repair by HTC America (if they take it...).

I just wonder if there is something else wrong and the replacement screen is fine - possibly digitizer. Have you tried a hard reset?
I just decided to start my contingency plan - repair by HTC.
This ordeal started by calling HTC America, who forwarded me to HTC UK.
I need apparently to send my phone to the UK for repair...
Anyway, to your question - I dare not try a hard reset yet until I am officially ready to send my phone for repair to HTC. The reason is that I am using the phone via voice command (the display is dead - so no dialing there...). If I hard reset - I can really only answer incoming calls...
Anyway - I'll give it a try before I ship it, although I doubt it will work.
I have been around many places in the UK...
and can only find two places which will repair it, both costing £150!!! ygeller
do you have the number for HTC in the UK thank you very much hope you get the screen fixed.
I got these numbers: +44 (0) 8458900079 HTC UK
+44 (0) 1202714530
After talking to someone on the first number I was told to call the repair center:
+44 1 908556464 repair center
The repair center hardly answers - you leave a message and they call you back.
I then went to http://support.htceurope.com and created my own repair request. I got a price estimate which was more like 100 GPB including shipping to the US and 5 days typical turnaround. The website generated the RMA process and claimed to have sent me an email with the return instructions - so far, I have not received the email... unbelievable...
Yes. The price sucks. Then again having paid so much for the phone and not being able to use it sucks more...
Yep that ties up with this site:
http://www.europe.htc.com/support/cs_by_phone.html
Mike
For reference, I now finally see that the part number I am missing is:
60H00056-00M
the part I got from HK (fits the HTC Wizard) is 60H00037-00M
Hence the mismatch.
Searching the "37" part on google yeilds all sorts of results.
Searching for the "56" part yields nothing... to new? :-(
ygeller Thanks!
Thank you very much ygeller, you have saved me at least £50 and the turnaround is a lot shorter than the 4 weeks I was quoted somewhere else. The internet is a wonderful place most of the time seriously thanks again! Hope all goes well with yours once you get it back.
Problem
Hi!
I have similar problem.
While the charge of battery is over 95% touch screen response me, but later no, rest of device continues working perfectly.
Ygeller, what generation of lcd purchase you?
Ì'm sure that the 1st is not for my device (vodafone v1605 HERM200) but i'm not sure if 2nd will be correct for me.
And if somebody has passed him similar problem and has a solution estaria him very thanked for if me it explained it.
Excuse my bad english.
It was neither gen1 or gen2.
The display they sent me was simply incompatible. It was a Wizard screen - not TyTN.
I couldn't find anywhere on the web a replacement part for TyTN, so I sent it for repair by HTC.
Tytn LCD Module
Just read through thread - trying to pick up on LCD module suppliers.
It seems there is some confusion as to the type of LCD the HTC Tytn and its various "brother" PDA use. Here is what I found out after some extensive correspondence with a supplier in China:
There are a number of incompatible LCD modules each of which is fitted with its own video controller. The marking (usually) with a big sticker on the ribbon like connector states which type is used.
These are the descriptors to look for and order by:
Samsung - LTP280QV-E01
Toppoly - TD025STEB1
Hitachi - TX0704APAA1
The other codes mentioned in the thread are equivalent:
Hitachi - 60H00056-00m
etc...
In any case if anyone knows where to find the Hitachi I would be very happy!
I just got finished replacing the screen on my 8525. I got it from e-bay (gold electronics) had good service and got the exact screen for my phone. around 79 + shipping.
Which screen did you replace?
Info on Tytn LCD Types
Hope this sorts the "White Screen" business out...
These screens differ in the controller they need.
HTC has diversified its use of LCD modules probably to cut prices... but it is a pain to fix!

Cingular 8125 / T-Mobile MDA: The same?

Just a simple question:
Are both phones the same? Do they use the same stylus pen? Do they use the exact same motherboard, screen, connectors and etc? The only difference is the case and keyboard shape?
Thanks in advance!
Both devices are HTC WIZARD 200. They have a different housing face plate and keypad. Therefore also the shape of the stylus might vary - I am not sure! I am using the MDA version which looks better on the front in my opinion. Allthrough I think the keyboard looks better on the 8125 ...
Anything else is the same in the devices.
A friend of mine is sending me a dead MDA and I'd like to know if I buy a Cingular 8125 with a broken screen, will I be able to use the motherboard from the MDA or the screen from the 8125 to get a fully functional unit?

I wouldn't buy a 8125 with a broken screen in first place! Research this forum for the SERVICE MANUAL of the HTC WIZARD! After seeing how to take it appart you might be able to imagine that too much can go wrong! The screen and the keyboard are the last things you can access! You open the device on the back and have to work all way down piece by piece until there ...
I saw broken screen WIZARDs on eBay for $150.00 - compared to that you can find working dev ices for $200.00 w/o contract.
Yeah I saw the service manual and got scared too, but I can give it a try I think, if I find a broken device for less than $150

HTC TyTN screen defect

Hi there,
My HTC TyTN screen is defect after I tried to repair the alignment issue. HTC seems not to be able to send me a new screenpart. Is there anyone here with a defect HTC TyTN after flashing who is willing to sell me his device?
Or does anyone know where to get spare parts in europe for the TyTN?
Thanks!

screen defect
Hi there,
I have (on rare ocasions) seen tytn parts on ebay selling fairly cheap, it might be worth checking on there.
Failing that I thought HTC had a repair centre somewhere in London, you may have to leave it with them for a few days but they should be able to fix it for you for a fee.
Regards
Terryd1980
There was a thread recently from someone looking for the screen ribbon cable - this pointed to a couple of websites which sold tytn (maybe the O2 version) screens.
I'm a bit busy at the moment but will post the links if I find them later.
Edit: found the links - They're in this thread, hope on is useful to you:

Almost 2½ years on and buying a brand new screen for a TyTN is not very economical anymore. If there is anyone on this forum with a paypal account, a broken TyTN/P3600 (but working screen !) and a helpful nature, then will you sell me your old TyTN so I can take out the screen and fix mine which cracked today ?
Thanks for any tips !

broken screen replacement

Ok, I have done some searching and I am still not sure of the answer to my question.
I have a HERM 100. I broke the screen on accident, but it was having the WSOD problem anyway. I still love the phone and I am trying to fix it.
First question is I have the screen with the P/N HTC60H00037-01M. I have looked several places on ebay, and the only ones I can find selling this exact screen are almost 2 times as expensive. Most if not all the others are saying this screen will work HTC60H00037-00M
Here are the links
The cheaper one with -00M on the end in one of the pictures.
The more expensive one with the EXACT same number as my screen in the pic.
Will the cheaper one work in my phone or is there a real difference between the two screens.
Oh, and does anyone know the best way to get a chip reflowed? I have been watching and reading the WSOD thread, and the only option that seems to fix the problem permanently. I am not able to do this myself I don't think, but if anyone has a surefire way to do this at home I am willing to listen, I just want my favorite phone back.

Well at least they are both made by Toppoly and that is the crucial thing because different manufacturers use different digitizer circuits:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3372952&postcount=4
NB - This link is for reference only it was written for another Hermes owner who had bought a Hitachi part.
So I think you should be ok with the cheaper one - but I wouldn't put a 100% guarantee on that. (My understanding is that it should be ok though).
Obviously buy from a company that has put in writing that it works ok - just in case a return is needed.
Regarding reflowing the chip. You can experiment with an oven (though I wouldn't like to guess the temp or length of time) - and remove the plastic layer from the keys side. To be honest though, I'd look for a part on ebay or a device being parted out here - because if you try the oven method, you'll probably need a new part anyway
Mike
Ok, I got the cheaper one, and put the phone together. I am having a small problem. I think it is related to the WSOD issue now. After replacing it I put the phone together and it was working but the screen was very white. There were colors and objects on it but they were very hard to see, you had to look from an angle. After charging it a while and working with it (and thinking I screwed up again) I got the screen to work with some pressure on the right side. I am thinking that is the connection for the screen that you almost bend backwards. I am going to re examine that, and look locally for someone who will reflow my chip. This must be the problem.
At first I was not sure but now I have finally gotten a few minutes of non WSOD use out of it, so indeed the cheaper one WILL work.
Again, thanks mike, you are the man. I am certain I can find a dunked 8525 that will allow me to get my WSOD issue fixed.
-to sum up, the cheaper screen WILL work! good times.
Chris
