Is there anything out there for WM2003 (or possibly WM2005, not necessarily my M1500) that will allow me to recieve Streaming MPEG4 over RTSP ?
The horrible Realplayer does the job on the PC, but I need a hand held device to do it, my M1500 (XDA2i) would be ideal, but I am open to sugestions on this too.
Any info most appreciated!
Thanks peeps
I wrote a big post about trying CorePlayer/TCPMP, then realised DUR, it doesn't support RTSP.
Tried RealPlayer PPC version? I have an installer (ActiveSync) on my PC if you want me to upload it and pass it on to you to try...
Thanks for the reply, I have just found Real PPC, but cannot get it to work.
I have a streaming device, which with a laptop that i can Ad Hoc to and recieve the stream via Real, using the rtsp://<ip>ort/Name in the open location field. However, exactly the same process does not open the rtsp on the PPC. I'm struggling to see what could be wrong, as there are simply not that many things to change.
If you have any ideas, (or can explain why i put /Name in the ulr, as i don't understand that bit of the line) then please let me know. Have you got Real PPc to work?
Thanks
Hey guys! This is my first post so go easy on me (I apologize in advance to any mods if this is in the wrong section )
I own an Eten X500 so I couldn't really find a thread area that best suited for this topic. Regardless, this is a technique that I discovered by sheer accident that may help to relieve some of the stress of RTSP playback in WM5/6 devices.
For a while I have been attempting to playback rtsp feeds on my x500 because I happen to know of a couple live TV RTSP feeds (ESPN, MTV, etc..) and I thought it would be pretty damn cool to watch them on my phone via WiFi or whatever. However, my attempts seemed to keep failing; both pvplaver and the "HTC Streaming Video" app seemed to fail when I attempted to playback a file via an RTSP url. The only streaming video that seemed to work is orb (god bless this program) but TV streams could only be viewed via a TV Tuner built into your PC. Thats when I had my idea:
1) Create an easily accessible folder on your hard drive (i.e. C:\streams)
2) Within the folder create a shortcut to your feed by right clicking within the explorer window and selecting new->shortcut
3) Type the location of the RTSP feed into the dialouge box that appears (you can test it with one of my feeds, MTV BRAND NEW CHANNEL "rtsp://213.75.12.60/mtv_new_low" without the quotes.)
4)Click next
5) Label the shortcut with something you'll remember and click finish.
6) This is probably an important time to make sure you have orb installed and running. If not, you can download it HERE.
7) Once your orb server is set up, connect to it (with your Windows mobile device) via your mycast login page ("https://mycast.orb.com/orb/html/login.html").
8) Instead of browsing through your media, which for the most part is all you ever use orb for, use the "File Browser" tool found at the top of your mycast page. Navigate to your streams folder (i.e. C:\streams) and select your shortcut.
9) Voila! Windows Media Player should popup and your watching live TV on your Windows Mobile Phone via a simpe RTSP feed.
Hope someone can make use of this information or even figur out why it works, I figure this is the least I could do considering how many goodies I leech off of you guys!

AIRBOURNE

why it works

Because RTSP, by default, doesn't work in NAT / behind firewalls and the two players you've listed (in addition to RealOne player) doesn't support HTTP fallback.
Orb, on the other hand, doesn't require back connections and, therefore, works even over restricted connections.
(BTW, great article! I'll link it in from my forthcoming Streaming Bible.)
Hi!
Im currently searching for this application:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2ZflgE4kXs
Its a program that lets you recive Dreambox restreams from a computer, i think its name is Mobile Grab Client but i can't find it anywhere. And iam not searching for TCPMP.
I will give 10$ to the person that first writes me a working link or something where i can find THIS application and its server. Payment will be done with Paypal.
The reason for posting this in this forum is because i have a smal memmory of reading about it here first.

I already know that, as said iam not searching for TCPMP. The app iam searching for is The Mobile Grab client!
so it's an application which selects the correct url and opens it up on TCPMP.
where do we find it ?
anyone interesed ?
i know this post will be deleted & i will most likely be called an idiot but it your trying to broadcast your television from home and tune it on on your mobile device....then you can use www.slingbox.com
nobody will call you idiot, but it is not a good way to do it.
if we have capability of directly connecting and streaming why put another node ?
so nobody has this little piece of software ?
Why buy a slingbox when the Dreambox seems to be capable of doing it itself? Any way, long time has passed and my quesion still is, does any one know how to get this software?
yep. still waiting...
Closest thing i could find...

From what i've seen with this app, it does what you want it to do.
Since it's opensource and written in PHP, i think it can be modified to contain pre-selected settings just for PDA viewing.
Btw, i think you can forget about just a single program without a middleman doing the transcoding, since the Dreambox is incapable of transcoding its stream.
What the Youtube video could be is a website showing links to all the channels, and by clicking on them it launches TCPMP with the stream.
moullas,
you are wrong. why ? because Dreambox uses mpeg2 streaming which is the easisest codec to decode for any client type. That's why a middleman is not required.
And if we had the VLC player for ppc, we could watch directly Dreambox channels.
Here is the VLC player for PPC
http://www.pocketpcfreeware.com/en/index.php?soft=1545
unfortunately it does not run on Hermes (as far as I remember)
that's why I tried to compile it from source a while ago but I couldn't succeed.
if it runs well on anyone's wm6 device , please let us know.

What do you want VLC to do that TCPMP or CorePlayer cannot?
Well that restreamer seems to be okay, but its not as simple as that application that he uses. Maby i should try it... The problem for me isnt that it need to be compressed true another computer but that i need the simplicity from the application, cklick and play!
Hey guys,
I picked up a nexus player today (First androidTV device) and found the options for the live channels app very underwhelming
I was wondering if anyone has found an app to add as a source any URL streams ( RTSP,RTMP,MMS etc) as a channel?
Also is there a list of what apps can be used as a live channel source, and is it possible to rename/reorder the channels
Thanks!
EDIT: looks like Cumulus TV is what i may be after, lets you add sources and they become channels
A bit late I know, but have you installed PlutoTV yet? It integrates with the Live Channels app as a source. Not so sure about the ability or organize yet.
Also, Toonami Afternoon is also able to plug into the Live Channels app. Someone posted a link in the comments here.
Rather than 2 threads thought I'd just put them in both.
If I'm using a different remote (mini keyboard) the ESC works as a back button works with most things but not Chrome or BBC iPlayer ... the right mouse click doesn't work at all bu does with the supplied remote.
Also things like skipping forward or back video 10s ... works in VLC but not iPlayer ... there's no way to do it with the supplied remote either ... can I change any settings so they do??
Totally different query re VLC player as well .... It lists every single video I have ... so many you can't see th wood for the trees, the other Android Box I had used to list the folders instead .... is there any way I can change the view on this.
Not exactly the answer you're looking for , but if you use External Keyboard Helper , and probably other apps , you can easily remap your keyboard to get the missing keys you need.
Any reason to use VLC in particular ? Not sure what you mean by " so many you can't see th wood for the trees". I would suggest Kodi instead, it has many more features and much more support than VLC on android. Kodi for instance will allow you to have the refresh rate of your tv , if it supports it, to match the video's refresh rate (most of the time 24hz for mainstream movies, 30 and 60 for a lot of other video types). It is possible to remap any keys within kodi as well. There are a lot of different skins for Kodi which will help you set that perfect video player to your taste. The library layout is very nice. It will easily let you browse files on your network, easiest way is to mount you network shares in the shield's settings, but you can also go through kodi to find your network shares. I prefer through the shield itself , since I use my shares outside of Kodi (like emulator ROMs). Kodi also support a huge collection of plugins, so many you might never even have to exit Kodi at all.. Kodi also easily supports bitstreaming. I haven't come across a video or audio format that didn't work flawlessly on my shield / receiver setup.
Sorry I couldn't help with your specific questions.

I'll take a look at that .... I guess External keyboard Helper is an APP?????
Sorry I wasn't clear, I used to put series onto one folder which may be a few seasons, older films in another ... basically just breaking them down to make them easier to find by category where as this version of VLC just puts everything into the top folder so it's hundreds of titles to go through unless you scroll down and drill into several different folders which again is a bit of a pain.
I did try Kodi on another box but it didn't have smb2 ?????? apparently ........ (not very techie) which made it complicated to access folders across the network (VLC does it very easily) ... that said with this box I'll probably be using it as the media server and since posting the initial query have just set up and found out how to use Plex and added the different folders to it so may try that for a while and see how I get on with it as an alternative
