Back in the dark days when I had an iPhone there was an app called QuickLock. By touching it, it would shut the screen off the same as hitting the power button on the Galaxy S. Does anyone know of or better yet tried an app that does this?
Thanks
Even better to me is to emulate what "activator" in iPhone could do, which allows users to configure their preferred gesture for blanking the screen. I chose to slide my finger from the home button up. This method is superior to pressing the button as in Quicklock because it does not require the user to come to the desktop to look for the icon. In other word, you can enter off the screen from anywhere. I like it especially on my iPad, because the case is designed in a way that makes pressing the power button a little difficult to effect.

I can't find this application in the market place (Australia is where I am).
So i dont no how to write apps but i have a great idea that maybe someone here can work on.
when the phone is locked and the screen is off its a little inconvienet to press the on/off button on the top of the phone to unlock the device.
so how about if there was way to swipe across the four buttons (home, menu, back, and search) at the bottom and unlock the device liek that.
i would really like that and i think so woulda alota other peepz
They're capacitive buttons they won't register touches without the screen being on

I love peepz, they are delicious. Especially the yellow ones.
Awesome idea. I'm steer there had to be some way to get it to work. Might consider making a request thread in the dev forum and see what people say. You could always hit the power button to wake up the phone just like normal unlock then use the bottom buttons to unlock like you said. Either way, cool idea.

Is this possible by any means??
What I mean is we have trackpad wake, which is nice. But is there anything we can do so that when you long press the trackpad it locks the phone? Just an idea I've had floatin around..

Good idea but the phone would unlock easier in ur Pocket...not a big fan of Pock Dialing - I'll stick to the OldSchool Method on this one...

Huh? How would this make the phone easier to unlock on your pocket? I think you misunderstand. The OP is asking about a feature to LOCK/SLEEP the phone using the trackpad button. Did you think he meant wake/unlock the phone?
A mod to wake the phone with the trackpad button already exists, and its pretty awesome. It turns on the screen, but does not unlock the phone, same as the "normal" power button. You still have to swipe to unlock. And doing so in your pocket is very unlikely.
Ahh u are correct....I mis-read his post. My apologies to the OP and its actually a pretty good idea!

I need this too, cause my power button is broken(sometimes works), I dip it on cup holder with water

Can take over the default long-press of the search button. And if your running CM7 you can change the search button to launch the app, so no need for a long press
Remap the trackpad press to the power button.
IE - it becomes the power button, you could then change the power button to something like Play/Pause, Trackpad, etc.
It will still boot with the power button, a remap only affects the Android system.
Hey im having a problen with unlocking my phone with my fingerprint when its on the always on screen, ive seen youtube videos on people unlocking there phones from that screen by when i place my fingerprint on that screen it wont unlock

You have to press the home button and then just hold your finger there for a second or so. Same way as you would when you aren't using Always-On-display.
If you've seen cases where the lock screen doesn't even appear, sometimes it will unlock very quickly so you barely see it

Ive seen people unlock there phones on the black screen with the clock, they just hold their finger on it and it unlocks

They might use their own mod to do so but I've never seen it...

you can activate the edge feed when the screen is black and then unlock with the fingerprint but from the always on display it is not possible.

Nice trick, thanks for the tip. Not sure which is more annoying though - having to press the home button or doing the finger swipe to avoid pressing the button LOL. Why oh why Samsung couldn't you have made the home button capacitive too.

The finger print scanner is capacitive it's just that it isn't on all the time. Try this app it will allow you to wake the phone by placing your finger on the scanner but you will not be able to use fingerprint unlock as long as you have it set to wake the phone. I think you might have to pay for the full version to get the wake feature. I've paid for it so I know it works.
Here is the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jamworks.easyhome
EDIT: THIS APP NO LONGER WORKS AND IS UNABLE TO WAKE THE PHONE WITH THE FINGERPRINT SCANNER.

I found an app called Always on AMOLED, that replaces the Samsung AlwaysOn and keeps the fingerprint scanner on, so you don't have to press the button, just touch it. It's auto brightness is a bit buggy though

Tried it's donate version, it unlock but stay on same AOD screen, just shows popup saying device is unlocked with fingerprint.
Hi everyone, I was wondering if it were possible to hide seeing my face when using the iris scanner, I think it would look more neat.
I know you can activate the iris scanner as soon as you wake up the phone but I set the home button to automatically unlock (since I use smart lock and that makes it very convenient) so when I press the home button it'll instantly go to the unlock screen where the front cam is activated.
OK I guess I could use the power button instead but I was wondering if there's a way with the home button. Thanks!
Mine is intermittent as to when it does show the camera view. Most of the time it will just come up with a line of text saying look here for iris scanning and I'm never quite sure where I'm supposed to actually be looking.

You should be watching towards the top of the screen near the grid, you should do this even before turning the screen on and it's faster and more accurate
If you look at the red light left hand corner it's unlocks instantly
Yeah its not too bad, i wear glasses so is a bit of a pain sometimes it works through them most of time it doesn't. I might try and get used to doing that "guess where the fingerprint scanner is without putting your finger all over the camera lense" manoeuvre.
I meant why does it *sometimes* come up with the camera viewfinder - does yours *always* come up with the camera viewfinder?
It shows the camera when the unlock isn't instant, or this is what I noticed, just wanted to hide that for a sleeker look

Not an answer but an option. You can go into Settings>Lock screen and security>Iris Scanner>Preview screen mask
There's some goofy masks but maybe there is one that might preset a "sleeker" look for you.

Yep I know about that, that makes everything even worse imo Ahah the main problem to the "sleeker look" is that the camera is super low res, I don't know just feel it's useless but u guess there's no way to get rid of it
I got exactly same question !
That things is pure ugly in term of design and aesthetic, LoL
Hopefully someone can found a way to permanently hide that visual
To unlock your S8 or S8+ with your iris without seeing the camera preview go to:
Settings => Lock screen and security => Iris Scanner
... and turn on the very last option called "Iris unlock when screen turns on".

Thank you,
But we already know and use that option indeed.
But sometimes, we want to jnlock the phone on the table, when its not facing our face, thus we slide up the lock screen,
And then, bam, those ugly visual appear above the PIN number pad. LoL
Sure it has nothing wrong with the function. We just simply hate how it "broke" our beautiful lockscreen layout

LOOOL, I'm sorry but that made me laugh. I guess we'll have to wait for a tweak.

You can trigger the iris scanner again by clicking the text on the top center instead of swiping, this will not show the guidance visual.
I found the best way to mitigate this is to do two things.
1. Enable the toggle for "iris unlock when screen turns on" under lockscreen>iris scanner
2. Disable the toggle for "Unlock with home button" under setting>display>navigation bar
It's still not perfect but I'm at 90% success rate and it's far faster than fingerprint debacle. I figure when you press the home screen without option 2, phone triggers instant to unlock. With it unchecked it pauses so you can look at notifications.
Should default this way imo.
By golly you are right!

I know this is an old thread but I just would like to thank you for this tip! I always look at the line of text to unlock my phone and it sometimes doesn't do the trick. But looking at the red dot hasn't failed me yet!!! And it's almost instantaneous! Thanks for this tip.
