I had my tytn configured with Wayfinder GPS software and working with a G-sat GPS receiver (BT-GPS-34A89D), for some reason after doing something on the weekend I am getting an error on the software (Cannot open Bluetooth mode." but BT is enabled. I think is the COM port 5 that is blocked and it seems the software only works through that port.
How can I release the COM5 port? Any advice is appreciated.

Hi, I have a brand new XDA Mini, but with Qtek S100 WWE Rom 1.12, and I bought a Bluetooth GPS, Xaiox NAVOne 2.0...
Bluetooth manager can see the gps without problems, but my Medion2004 Navigation Software says, no GPS is avaiable.
I've already read in the users manual, that GPS needs Com8.
As I see in Start -- Settings -- System -- Bluetooth settings, xda mini has Com5 for outbond port, and Com4 for inbound port.
How can I change ? No program is running, if I check.
Please, help me, thanks.
Nobody has a good idea ? I have already tried the Pocket Bluetooth Tools, it can give a solution, to change COM port 5 to COM port 8, my bluetooth gps requires this port.
BUT, this screenshot appears only a small moment (0,1sec) when I install NAVone2.0 gps...
I installed this gps 100 times, everything is the same.
Can you suggest me another bluetooth tools application?
The problem is simple, to change COM 5 to COM 8.
Thanks in advance.
You could try installing gpsgate from franson
http://franson.com/gpsgate/
change software!
I think you should try change software. I have tomtom 5 to my s100 and it works just fine..
Does anyone know wheter the AKU2 service when realeased will solve the problems with tomtom not allowing you to select the only two available com 6 and com 7 ports.
Iv'e been scanning other threads and can't find an answer to resolve the probelms with connecting a bluetooth gps devise to tomtom on the mini s.
My mini s is operating on ROM 1.5.4.2 WWE and doesn't have the required serial port manager, is this a common probelm.
Can I ask what version of TomTom you have installed?
I set-up my XDA Mini S last night with no problems. Connected to my cheapo bluetooth GPS reciever (£40 from Mobilefun) to tomtom (v5.210) using COM7.
You need to set-up the com port for the device in the bluetooth connection manager first and then the port should be available in tomtom.
I have tomtom nav 5 installed.
I have also installed the V 5.2.1 patch (if thats correct) from the tomtom website.
I'm using the Holux 236Slim GPS receiver, but when i go into tomtom and configure using Other NMEA GPS on baud rate 4800 (seen this reccomendation on other forums) i can only select COM9, COM3, COM0 and COM2.
In my bluetooth manager i've set up the outgoing port to COM7 (it recognises the devise) but it still doesn't appear in the tomtom configuration.
I'm pulling my hair out with this one, it seems as though may others are having the same problem but i can't find the solution.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

I had same problem last week. I suggest uninstall everything related to tomtom and find version 5.21 after the installtion your device (tomtom) will recognize the port 7 immediately... Regards...
COM ports mismatch
I had the same problem of mismatching COM ports for settings Active Sync sinchronization via bluetooth between PC and PDA Wizard.
I solved this problem by deleting in registry editor the serial devices which were configured on COM6 and COM7 ports on my PC (they were used from a USB-to-serial adapter).
Search in registry editor of your PC which device are configured on COM6 and COM7 ports and remove them from registry if you can.
I strongly suggest you to backup your PC registry before making any changes. Do it only if you are sure of you are doing.
Of course you need PC Administrator profile in order to make any changes to PC registry.
Bye.
Have a look at this thread:

hmmm... as mentioned above it just worked for me but I did a clean install of v5.210 of tomtom and did not do an upgrade.
I think from looking at other posts the version of tomtom is important.
Do the uninstall and see if you can get hold of a full v5.21 installation as I have seen some kicking about on various torrent sites.
Sorry I'm not more help.

Hi,
I have the same problem - no virtual COM port - how did you make it ?
I tried every setting in TOM-TOM and nothing changed. Please help me.
TOMTOM AND GPS
The XDA II comes only with support for BT headsets and ActiveSync through BT. The serial port emulation is also a feature of the Microsoft BT stack but you need a device driver a register port and to handle it
AND ITSOCKET BLUETOOTH TOOLS
hi all
i have had a right time trying in vain to get my t mobile MDA compact to work with the holox BT-321 GPS receiver. the reason i am having so much trouble is when i pair the devices, a small window flashes up and says "This bluetooth device supports serial port profile, would you like to create a bluetooth serial port for it?" the window box is labelled "bluetooth serial port COM5" of course i click yes, it asks me for the name, and i leave it what its called "BTGPS74R" and click finish, this leaves me on the main menu. in the com ports tab there is "new outgoing port" and "new incoming port" i click outgoing and next and low and behold there is nothing in the box whatsoever to select. i have checked all the boxes in my bluetooth settings for the 2 com ports.
the phone refuses to show any ports at all, i have flashed the imate jam rom 1.12 as i read that solved it, but it never, i have tried a bluetooth program called pocket bluetooth tools and this brings with it more com ports but they do not actually work by putting the ports in the drop down list, its still empty !!! also when i select say port 6/7/8 the small window flashes up saying "this device supports......" and then the pocket tools dissappears and its all back to nothing again.
i am at my wits end with it and i dont have a clue how to get this bluetooth port to actually show up so i can bond with my bluetooth GPS and make tom tom 5 work
thank you anyone who can help me
Dan
Hi,
i just resolved exactly the same problem on my mda compact.
I had to do a complete reset of the device...
Hi
I am having a similar problem. I have an orange SPV M1000 and the same bluetooth GPS device. It is paired in bluetooth devices. When I got to connect on Tom Tom 5 it can't pich up the receiver. I have tried all the different wired/bluetooth etc device settings in TT as it says to try wired if bluetooth doesnt work. But to no avail. I'm tempted to try different sat nav software. Any ideas? Let me know if your issue gets resolved!
cheers
AJ
Hi guys,
The options for new outgoing/incoming port creation are to connect to a device with which you haven't paired. My gps creates a com5 too, like all of yours & TT5 finds it pretty fast when I have it to use 'another bt gps' @ com5.
When you think a hard-reset will solve your problem, get yourself a good backup first. Cause sometimes you can restore that backup & the problem is still solved.
BTW does your gps support nmea protocol? TT can only handle nmea & that could be the cause when your gps is setup for external communication with another protocol.
Good luck M
Thanks for the reply
Hi there
I've attached the info from my receiver, looks like it should be ok.
Tom Tom only has connections on infrared, BT on COM6, Serial Cable on COM1, COM9:, COM2:, and Serial on USB
When I go to Start>Settings>Bluetooth settings there are options for bluetooth serial settings. These are non changable and if you check the boxes it will set Inbound Com port to COM4 and Outbound COM port to COM5.
These com ports dont seem to be options in Tom Tom 5 which confuses me.
So i download a program called BeeLineGPS which does a scan of all the ports and baud rates which I thought would be easier than the manual setup of TT5.
Try the com port options mentioned earlier with the BeeLine software and it still cant pick up the GPS device. Tried fiddling around for ages and still not working.
Do I need some kind of software for forwarding the ports so TT5 can see the device.
The advert for the device i bought promised me and easy set-up but this is being a pain

All Fixed now. I upgraded the Rom to a newer version. After this the tom tom picked up that it was actually on port 5 which it wasnt doing before. Bobs your uncle
Hi,
I have a problem with configuring GPSGATE on a PPC.In the BT menu I can select for outgoing COM port only COM 0,6 and 8.GPSGATE sees in the input tab the ports COM 1-4,7,9.When I mamually make it COM8 the app says the port can't be opened.Tried to remove all BT paired devices and com ports from BT settings menu but still the app is not seeing the other ports.
How to "free" up the ports 6 or 8 for gpsgate?
I searched the forum for this but found nothing relevant.

Hi,
i have a problem with getting memory map to work! i am running tt7 fine but cannot get memory map to open the port th BT reciever is set to...driving me completely bonkers. I had both working with wm5. I could set a incoming and outgoing port but no such look in wm6.10.00.
any quick solutions would be greatly apreciated...ta.
Hi,
With tt6 & tt7 I made a little success because if you let these programs for a while after some time (usually 1-5 minutes) suddenly they connect to the Nokia LD-3W and work fine (Outgoing COM port is set to whatever is free and GPS Inter.driver is set to off - if I'm not wrong it doesn't matter at all for tomtom what is set up in the Inter.driver, only the BT setup is important and that the devices have to be paired).
With iGO 6 & 8 I did not manage to connect it to the Nokia LD-3W (I think it's because the LD-3W looks for sats after having a BT connection). I used the iGO8 with my personal Holux M-1000 receiver and it worked, but only if the receiver had a stable sat connection (fortunately it searches for sats when it is switched on, and does not wait for a BT connection so I assume the problem might be with the driver of iGO, but I'm not an expert).
I don't know the Memory Map application but you should give a try to the GPSGate application. Maybe it solves your problem.
Cheers!
PS: I forget to mention that with the WM5 ROM (I don't remember which one) iGO6 worked superb with the Nokia LD-3W but the WiFi was a mess so I had to shift to WM6 and since then it's a never ending story
When this worked iGO8 was not available. But I'm a witness it worked...
