TyTN hangs - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi everybody,
my htc tytn hangs abount 5-10 times a day. The only thing I can do when it happens is to detach the battery and reboot. This is quite annoying, especially when it happens as soon as you receive an sms and it get lost.
This usually happens when I do some "operation", like receving an sms, detach the battery charger or the usb cable, open an application.
Should I contact technical support and ask for a repair/replacement or it is better to try with a firmware upgrade?
My tytn has version 5.1.195 (Build 14955.2.3.0) of windows and ROM 1.18.258.2 (07/22/06), radio component 1.03.03.10, protocol version 32.34.7010.01H, extrom version 1.18.258.105 ...
Thanks in advance

what software have you installed on your device?

the most "intrusive" software I use is probably Wisbar Advance, but the problem persist even if I disable it. Other software installed includes:
Resco Explorer (w Today,Registry and FTP Add-in)
TomTom 6.0.10
RARLAB Pocket RAR
Sunnysoft Backup Manager
Spb GPRS Monitor

i have always had bad luck with WAD.. i also had lock up issues with Spb GPRS Monitor

Do you have .NET Compact Framework 2.0 installed on your device? Mine use to hang up all the time. I finally did a hard reset and restored my device to a date before I had intially installed it. Now my device might hang up once every few days or so at the most. Anyone else notice that .NET Compact Framework 2.0 caused problems on their device?

Nope, it's fine on mine and used by quite a few of my applications. But, often I believe it's not any one application but the particular combination of things you have installed and the way you have your device stup that's the problem. So someone may well find installing a certain application causes endless problems whereas another person has no problems.
Everyone who does not need active sync running all the time should ensure they have taken the steps outlined many times on this forum.

Magneto and I: The first week

The following should give users an idea what they are in for if they decide to take the plunge...
It happened again. Out of the blue, my XDAII froze, then turned itself off. I closed my eyes and there it was, this terrible electric 'bling bling' sound. I didn't have to open my eyes to confirm that another hardreset had just happened on my XDAII. No particular reason. As if my XDA wanted to tease me, it had just decided to clear everything in its memory, all installed programs. And now? installing everything again? when there was no insurance that it wouldn't hardreset itself again?
No, I said to myself, not this time. I opened the file explorer on my PC and did what I thought I would never do: I started the upgrade to install Magneto or better known as Windows Mobile 2005 on my XDAII.
When I downloaded the Magneto files, I thought to myself that I would just keep them for storing. You never know. One hardreset later and suddenly Magneto sounded like a godsent to me.
The upgrade went smooth, very smooth in fact. Before the upgrade I deleted the extended rom files and storage files. Maybe that helped.
All OK? Not quite. I could not connect to my PC and activesync via USB. Everything worked well via Bluetooth, but USB? No chance. I found out that it had something to do with XP and not having the servicepack 2 installed. Well, no choice. Goodbye USB sync. I could live with that since I still had bluetooth.
Once I had Magneto running, I started installing my standard programs. Most of them worked. The only one that did not was WorldMatePro. OK, I tried to live without it.
I installed most of the programs into Storage. They all worked. I even tried to install some of them into Buzz' RAM disk. A few worked as well, some couldn't be installed there. Well, I anyway planned to use the RAm disk for storage.
I was actually surprised that XCPU_Scalar worked. Well, even Magneto is now overclocked to 530 MHZ on my XDAII.
I also installed PocketZenPhone and Pocketbreeze. Somewhere I had read that these programs would not run on Magneto. But no issues on my machine! They both worked. The only issue I have with Pocketbreeze is that the category icons & colors are gone. Pocketweather also worked fine. Again, I was surprised that Magneto was so compatible.
Unfortunately, PocketContacts was a dead-end. "No contacts found" was the only message I ever got from it. Goodbye PocketContacts.
I had a few more programs in my folder on the PC, but the memory on my XDAII with Magneto is limited. Very limited. Very very limited in fact. But for me not such a big issue as I do not have too much necessary software on my XDA. I could live with this limitation for time being.
Anyway, I wanted to try Magneto for a week and see if I stayed with my new friend.
After I made the first few phone calls with Magneto I was impressed with the dialer. Nice interface. Also, it seems to me that the phone connects much quicker to the provider than before.
But why didn't they include something like the intellidialer? Well, the new contacts application is quite nice, so I will use the contacts instead. Not too bad.
Then, on day three, the disaster. Suddenly, the screen stopped reacting. Well, it actually didn't stop, it just didn't react to the places where I touched it with the pen.
I was already thinking about "hardreset", when it came to me that the screen orientation was wrong.
I had installed Vitobuttonmapper and mapped <rotate screen> to the record button as press and <start bluetooth> as press & hold. I figured out that I must have pressed the record button not long enough, therefore the <rotate screen> command was executed. But somehow, the screen orientation remained in Portrait but the touch screen was now in landscape.
I managed to fix this problem by changing back to Portrait and making a softreset. Then I tried to repeat this error. Yepp, the <rotate screen> was the culprit.
Consequently, my Magneto has no screen rotation anymore. But I can also live with this.
The rest of the week went fine. Magneto is stable and smooth.
Now the final question: Will I stay with Magneto? Yes, I will. I am often travelling and therefore I need a device that I can rely on. If I'm on the road and my XDA hardresets, I'm dead. Therefore Magneto is the solution for me. No hardresets, and even if the battery goes dead, I'm safe.
But one thing is clear to me. When the first Magneto devices come out, and hopefully there will be the Magician with Magneto, I will immediately retire my XDAII and buy one of these devices. Magneto is the future. No doubt about it.
What do I like the most about it besides the "goodbye hardresets"? for sure the softbuttons. Just great!
I hope this was useful.
Cheers
Pat
Hmmm.... Interesting.... Very, very interesting!!!!
I think I'll try Magneto real soon... However, I have a question: Is it possible to return to 2.06.00WWE just in case?
Thanks for such detailed story!

I have the same problem. But let me just say that I have 2 harddrives on my PC. Both with Win XP + SP2. I tried to synch Magneto on the harddrive I frequently use but it DOESN'T work... So I tried booting my 2nd harddrive. This 2nd harddrive has a fresh installation of Win XP + SP2 and other essential utilities like Office suite, WinZIP, etc.
And guess what...activesync 4.0 using USB WORKED using my 2nd harddrive. Very ODD...

YES it is possible to return to 2.06.00WWE...I have done exactly that.
I have been running Magneto for about 1.5 weeks. And I must say it's GREAT! But as you know it's just a leaked version so it has a LOT of bugs. So I've decided to go back to 2.06.00WWE until Magneto is more stable/reliable.
How to configure Connect via bluetooth ?
I done the WM2005 installation and i manage to connect via USB with everthing sync. But i like to know how you can setup the activesyc via bluetooth ? I own a Level One bluetooth dongle and i did try to connect via bluetooth in WM2003 before i upgrade to SE. Now in Wm 2005, i still have no luck to get it work. Help !!!
I m using Windows 2003 and had configure Comm 5 in ActiveSync 4.0, added bluetooth serial port 5 in widcomm drivers. And also i pair my XDA2 with my machine several time to make sure it is paired. I try everthing include try to do file transfer from my deskop also no luck.
Btw, i can't discover any ActiveSync service in "My Bluetooth Places", i can only see "Dial up networking, Push Object". I do c actvesync in WM 2003.
Everytime i choose "Connect Via Bluetooth", will get this message "Cannot find an existing Bluetooth partnership with a PC that supports ActiveSync. Would you like to set up a patnership now ?" Yes/No button. But i had done the pairing before that ?
please help.
Change "Secure Connection" to "Not Required"?
Works for me, without Magneto (yet)

well... think I know why you're xda froze... I overclocked the cpu on xda and when the speeds are 2 high the device will hardreset!!
p.s. magneto rulez! tnx buzz!
I've got the same problems with activesync via Bluetooth. My device doesn't seem to recognise the Activesync service on my Sitecom Bluetooth device.
With 2003SE I didn't have any problems. Madkat's proposal didn't work.
Update to WM5
You are lucky, I was tryed whole last night but fail, it always give me the message "Error 101 - Connection error". USB connection is very good, I could do everything with cable
Re: Update to WM5
I have got the same problem connecting bluetooth adaptor D-Link DBT-120 with o2xda2 running on 2k3 not se. Anybody help?

Re: How to configure Connect via bluetooth ?
Thanks everyone for the solution. I had to revert back to 2003SE by Xdajojo version, because 2005 did not connect with usb or bluetooth adapter. activesync 4.0 does not seem to work properly on my device (O2 XDA2). I changed back to activesync 3.8 and worked properly with 2003SE. I can even go on internet using activesync. Also I have TOMTOM 3.0 Bluetooth version wich did not install on 2005. I will wait until proper stabilised version of 2005 is released by xda-developers team.

Money 2005 & Activesync 4.0/XDA Exec

Hi all,
I'm just wondering if anyone else has had any success running Money 2005 on the Exec and getting it to sync with their desktop Money data?
I've been running various versions of Money and more or less each of the XDA's (XDA, XDAII, XDA IIs) over the years but I've just got the Exec and it seems like Money doesn't want to play nice on this one. It strikes me that its an Activesync 4.0 issue as the Money 2005 application works fine in stand alone mode on the Exec, but if you try and sync it with the money files on the desktop PC as soon as Activesync starts up a prograa box pops up and just says "Reading device Databases" - unfortunaly it just hangs there doing that for eternity, unless you disconnect something, in which case Activesync crashes.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced any issues.
Cheers,
Dave
I didn't even know you could run Money 2005 on it! I have the PC-side program for it, do you have a link to the PPC version? Then I can play and let you know what I find.
Here you go.
That particular version worked fine on the XDA IIs, but something about this new configuration its not liking (at least on my desktop and laptop) and I would suspect that its on the software side.
Thanks.

Well, I posted a similar query on an MS Activesync Newsgroup this morning, and someone have just come back with the following:
I've had similar compatibility issues with Money 2005. Apparently some changes to WM5 make it incompatible, but MS isn't addressing the issue. I run a Dell Axim x51v and struggled with the same issue, but on top of that, I'd occasionally get the today screen to just crash. The crashes only started occuring after I installed Money, so I had suspicions that the two were related. My solution was actually simple:
Go to settings: Personal tab: Today icon: Items tab: uncheck Money on the list. Syncing became much more reliable and the today crashes stopped altogether. I don't know if it was a file lock or what...but it worked.

Unfortunatly this still appears to do diddly for me - still hanging at the "Reading device databases".
I'm beginning to get a little narked at MS right now.
I've been happily using SBP Finance for a while. It's fully compatible with Activesync 4.0 and Money 2006

8525 Bluetooth Hardware Problem

Hey all
I keep getting "error with bluetooth hardware" everytime I search for other bluetooth devices.
It was working fine and had NO problems until all of a sudden the connection was dropped. It was then that reconnection was no longer working.
I use fit4cat and had no problems before and I doubt it had anything to do with this program.
However, I did install netfront, IM+, pocket plus, pocket weather recently and I have a feeling one of these installations affected the bluetooth.
I uninstalled pocket plus and weather but still no help.
anyone?...
The only for-sure way to determine if you have a hardware problem is a hard reset. Does the problem still occur after you hard reset? With backup programs like spb backup (free trial available) its trivial to create a backup first that will fully restore your software afterwards. I've been hard resetting regularly lately since I've been playing with the widcomm development stack.
I've tried a hard reset multiple times and still, the same message. Its really weird. I think I'm the only one with this problem. But any how I've gotten replacement and there's no problems yet.

Bluetooth fails to turn on???

Hello. My X1i has a bluetooth issue for turning on the bluetooth. I think ti was affected by some application, or may be conflict between the rom and application? My rom is itje touch experience v2.1, and I tried to solve this problem by uninstalling all my application on the device but it doesn't help. Then I did a hard reset and the bluetooth works again but after I install my applications, it fails to turn on again. I can't figure out what is affecting the bluetooth. Any idea please???
after a hard reset install your apps one by one and check bluetooth connectivity after every app installation to know what affects your bluetooth connectivity. also check carefully apps compatibility with x1 before installing by reading others comments. by the way what apps did you install?
well i installed a lot of app but most of works fine in my stock rom before. The weird thing is that even though i uninstall all of the them, it doesn't fix the problem...
Anyway, thanks for our suggestion. i will flash a R2A rom when i finish my class 2 weeks later. Just suck it up for pouple weeks

Trinity Application unlocking from SD card?

Hi,
I finally took the plunge and flashed my Orange SPV M700 (HTC Trinity P3600) and upgraded to WM6. Fantastic - wished I'd done it ages ago. I followed the excellent TrinityGuides instructions referenced from XDA-Developers Trinity Wiki. My only hiccup while doing the upgrade was choosing which ROM to use. I didn't realise that the Orange SPV M700 phones are in fact P3600, therefore I had a number of failed attempts inadvertantly flashing with P3600i ROMs until I realised what the problem might be. A few XDA-Developers searches revealed that the FInix_3_7_2_Normal ROM seemed to work well for most P3600's, so that's the one I went for.
I'm now running:
- Hard SPL: Olipro 1.20
- Radio: 1.50.08.11
- ROM: FInix_3_7_2_Normal - actually gives you WM6.1
I flashed two weeks ago and everything's running at 100%. Just the ability to use a phone-pad T9 input method for emails and SMS's was worth the upgrade alone, not to mention loads of other benefits that I'm discovering every day.
Only two niggles, which I wonder if someone can help me with...
Niggle number 1 is quite trivial: I actually liked some of the WM5 notifications sounds - but they're not all present in the WM6 ROM. Can anyone tell me where I could download these from. I note that WM6 allows you to use mp3 files for notification sounds so even getting them in mp3 format would be fine.
Niggle number 2 is a bit more of a hassle: I have a 4gb storage card which I keep permanently installed in the HTC (I now have an 8gb one on order). As well as my pictures and mp3, this storage card also holds all my WM apps. Every few months I hard reset my HTC and reinstall everything - its nice to have a clean device - particularly if I've been experimenting with other apps. Therefore its simply a case of installing all the apps cabs straight off the storage card. No need to get connected to a PC. While running WM5, I used an unlock cab, which I created via the Orange Developers web site, to get rid of the application lock so I could install my apps. However (and here's the niggle) when I run the app unlock cab on my new ROM I get a "not trusted certificate" , or some such, message and the installation aborts. The only resolution I've found is to run SDA_ApplicationUnlock.exe on my PC while connected to the HTC. I'd like to remove this need to be tethered to the PC when I hard reset, therefore can anyone please advise how I can achieve the same outcome as running SDA_ApplicationUnlock.exe, preferably by running a cab file from the storage card.
Thanks.
Just a final word... for me, I only need one device in my pocket - my HTC Trinity P3600 - with this one device in addition to the mobile phone and camera functionality, my apps give me the following:
- obvious: email, calendar, contacts all wirelessesly sync'd with my work network
- SlingMobile gives me all the UK Freeview TV channels with DVR capability - requires a bit of kit back home which can be cheaply set up by buying off eBay.
- Satnav via TomTom Mobile (plus also Google maps) using the onboard GPS
- Laptop 3G broadband connectivity using PdaNet on which I can simultaneously access the internet via my HTC at the same time as making/receiving calls (this was the main driver for the WM6 upgrade).
- Full screen Internet browsing experience with Opera 9.5 (so much better than IE).
- Dual (or even quad) timezone display, alarms, etc with Spb Time.
I also recommend FastBlueTooth switcher, which allows you to set up one of the programmable buttons to toggle bluetooth on/off - very useful way to quickly and easily put bluetooth on only when going hands free and saving the battery by easily turning it off when not using the hands-free.
