I have searched all over multiple forums and havn't come up with a definitive answer to my question. I have a Cingular 8125 and no data plan. I want to disable GPRS so that in case my wifi isnt connected I dont connect through GPRS. There were rumors of a registry key that could disable it, but I couldn't find any more info.
Where can I find the registry key to disable GPRS entirely?
What I would recommend is for you to install Registrywizard it has the option to disable GPRS, or look a bit harder since I'm pretty sure the info is around here somewhere, you might even check in registrywizard's thread, it's a long one though, so be warned the thread is this one

Super, Thanks!
The keys for disabling GPRS is actually in HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\ Cingular GPRS\
and the same except the last part is Cingular CSD.
Thanks again for the tip.
Cingular
I know this isn't the answer you were looking for...but I just called Cingular support (611) and told them to disable GPRS (might be best to call it mobile internet...they aren't the smartest). They will disable it immediately and you don't have to remember which keys you changed if you want to enable it later.

Where can I find them? My TyTn just arrived and I have to set these things manually... thanks!
Same as your GPRS settings; it's no different
Hi there, iIam in the same boat. I do not know how to enter the settings or even where to find them. I saw the a previous reply to you said "Same as your GPRS settings," but that did not help me because I do not know what those are or how to enter them.
I woud also appreciate help on this issue.
Thanks
Cingular Settings
Ok,
This link should take you to the Cingular settings for the 8125. They're the same for HSDPA as well as plain GPRS
https://supportcingular.atgnow.com/...Setting+the+APN+on+the+Cingular+8125.#Goto101
This link is for the MMS settings, in case you need them.
https://supportcingular.atgnow.com/...ring+MMS+settings+on+the+Cingular+8125#Goto11
If for whatever reason they don't work, goto support on Cingular's site and search for 8125 GPRs settings and you'll get them. Hope this helps.

Cool, thanks! It's working.
I tried to test via dslreports.com but those Java-styleed stuff did not work, just like speedtest.net did not work...
UPDATE: http://www.dslreports.com/mspeed works and I got 811kb/s with 0.4xxms latency... hmmm, is there a way to lower this crazy latency?
It's dslreports.com/mspeed And sorry about that, I figured you knew the settings already, or else I would have posted them
I cam getting similar results. I am wondering if it has to do with the connection settings. On Telus EVDO RevA I had a latency of about 50ms and a dl speed of around 1500kbit
Have searched for this and find nothing:
Whenever I restart my TyTn, GPRS connects automatically. I have not configured my email to check for mails at specific intervals. Please help me with this. Thanks!
I think your connection is configured as "always on". You can change it in the registry....

Indeed, or if you're not confident about changing registry use something like Tweaks2k2 to make the change for you along with lots of other little tricks.
http://www.tweaks2k2.com/portal/staticpages/index.php?page=20050224182009983
requires .net framework also downloadable on same page

You could try a less drastic approach:
Check:
Settings, Connection-tab, Connections, Advance-tab.
(hope this is correct, I don't have an english rom-version)
There you should be able to select which connection is automatically used. I have this on T-Mobile default connection since I have an unlimited dataplan and use direct-push.
When using the phone as modem, I have to switch this "off"/different setting eg. work connection to avoid conflicts.
Hope this helps

We like drastic, drastic is sooooo gooood!!
Seriously though the originator does not say he does not want to use GPRS only that he does not want it starting automatically. So the connection type maybe correct only it needs its bottom smacked for running off without daddy. We have ways in the registry to control such dis-respectful behaviour and baby Hermes must be punished or else get sent to bed with no active sync with Mummy.
Mike
Thanks for your help. I am quite comfortable with editing the registry. What specifically in the registry should I edit. Thanks!
EDIT: I already FOUND it! Thanks for the help everyone!!!
I'm using Cingular 8525 on US T-mobile network, internet set to t-mobile settings, I can connect through GPRS or wifi with Opera browser, bur if I use IE, it always display an error message: "The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again." no matter what site I try.
Getting desperate, any help is appreciated!
My limited understanding is that Cingular hard coded their proxy settings in to PIE and thus it does not matter what settings you have specified in the connection settings menu, it will still try and use Cingular's Proxy.
There is a fix....search for it...
Dan
I found the posts about the hard coded proxy setting, but I'm using AKU2.3 ROM and do not have the [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings] "EnableAutoDetect" key.
After hard reset and re-install some programs, the connection was ok first, then started to show that error message again.
Is this proxy setting located in somewhere else in AKU2.3 ROMs?
I am not sure to behonest with you. I do not even know if it was employed in the 2.3 AKU.
I will edit my post later when I am in front of TyTN there is one other thing to try that might fix it..

Yeah the problem is that is comes back if you only change it from 1 or 0....DELETE the "EnableAutoDetect" key and it wont come back. You lose all Cingular Proxy though so if you are on Cingular and want MediaNet or CV then do not do this.

Thanks Dan. I did search and found no [EnableAutoDetect] setting anywhere in the registry. But I think you are right that this is a Cingular hard coded IE issue since Opera connects anytime. Please let me know if you found anything.
Cheers

Hi wpbear, thanks. but I don't have the [EnableAutoDetect] key to begin with. I don't care much about the cingular stuff since I'm on t-mobile network.
I guess I will upgrade to the AKU3.3 rom, and hope the problem will go away
Found the cause myseslf, but don't know why:
It seems that every time I connect to activesync, something in the registry is changed, then PIE cannot connect to the internet. I can't figure out what registry key was changed, so I have to restore the entire registry in order to used PIE again.
Anyone had this problem before?
Hi out there,
searching for a while now. Found nothing, but CommMgrPro which is way to much.
I search for a simple software to automatically disable GPRS/UMTS data while roaming and enable it back when logged into my provider again.
Would be nice to have more than one "home" provider.
Any hints? Thanks and happy holidays.
the simplest way is change your mobile while roaming
i was surprised that my htc touchpro activate
data communication automatically while i
had disactivated data com before.
Modaco NoData
Thanks. At least a simple way to enable and disable.
My problem is that i live close to the boarder (germany/france) and that i flip into roaming here really fast.
An automatic solution is needed very urgend.
Locking to my provider is ok, but the htc asks me what provider to join, when back.
All that sucks.
I cant believe that there is no solution.
Is CommMgrPro able to handle that?
Nobody?
Nobody else who got this problem and nobody who got a solution?
Is CommMgrPro able to handle that? The documentation is bad.

Maybe you can PM danielherrero.
He's the creator of CommMgrPro.
I am very interested in this as well - and from my searching seems a lot of others would be interested in an automated system.
My network provider automatically roams to another specific provider when in a non-coverage area (small pockets within metro areas and rural). The problem is that the data cost when roaming is ridiculous. I use Push Email for work and while on roaming want GPRS access to be disabled until I am connected back with my provider.
I've installed NoData by MoDaCo which is good but this requires the user to remember to enable/disable GPRS.
*EDIT*
I found exactly what I needed after a more searching - Wombat's PhoneRoam Script (Stay Connected to High Speed Networks Only). Will see whether it does the job

I agree to have more that only one network provider. Here in Belgium we can subscribe to Vodafone passport that enable to use "free" of charge the data on any Vodafone network, but when I go in France it switch to other provider and in that case my push mail is expensive... I'm also in the boarder of France.
So basicaly :
1/ A very very simple prg that disable the data automatically if roaming.
2/ A version 2 that would put all permited network provider even if roaming.
Thanks
This thing exists for the iPhone. Its a simple switch in the interface.
You can select "Data-Roaming" on/off, thats all.
Where is it in WM?

Modaco is fine but when you are at the border is quite difficult to follow your carrier and disable data time by time...or even remember you are switching to another country after few km and you always have one app trying to connect (Tomtom, weather, opening a mail...)
Modaco it's what I use actually but let me forget stressing an unwanted roaming data connection...
a+
Used NoData and application is still able to connect...
Hi,
I switched off all data connections in the registry (using frost Advanced Config, than also tried NoData) and in general windows mobile apps aren't able to connect... but I have a one third party application, which is somehow able to ignore that and connect even when the data connection is toggled to DISABLED...
Any ideas how to REALLY disable data connections (for roaming)...
here is the automatic solution http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503131
this will automatically disable ALL data in roaming and re-enable under home provider without any user configuration - nothing to toggle
I have been going through the t-mobile version of the touch pro 2 and I have not been able to find the settings for "Push Internet".
I did a quick google and found that the T-mobile EU version has removed it, so I assume that the US version also has the same problem.
Is this a rom upgrade issue or is there a cab that can be installed to override the t-mobile settings on the touchflo 3D 2.1?
Thanks,

Unless someone on this forum is really clever, I think that we will have to wait until we can flash to a different rom

I was hoping that like many things disabled from the pro 2, a quick registry hack might be possible. Anyone know how?
sorry, removed! but at least the FM radio and extra camera settings are found on this blog!
try in here...
HKCU/Software/HTC/Manila.
among the sub file:
-Internet.SetOperaForeground
-InternetPush.PostFirstRun
-PushMailOn
-DefaultBrowserIsIE
those look like points of interest. try changing the values around on those. i already turned the push mail on. but i havent seen a difference yet. maybe because i havent rebooted. but yeah, ill try those and get back to you..
I maybe too newbie but is it T-Mobile (UK?) settings?
Has the push function been removed from the ROM, or is it T-Mobile settings... I couldn't get MS Exchange to sync with T-Mobile default 3g settings so used these which worked... I don't know if it will help th push internet too... Just trying to help, if it's not relevant then flaming not appreciated!
Under the connections tab, edit existing connections...
ISP Name - T-Mobile GPRS
Name of Connection T-Mobile GPRS
Connection Type - Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
Portal - general.t-mobile.uk
Username - user
Password - one2one
The default settings use a proxy server which some applications don't like.

I took a look through the registry, I went through the whole thing. I notice in software/HTC/manila there is the settings for push internet. I messed with some settings and it looks like the push internet is enabled by default but the touchflo program is missing the push internet settings button.
Is there a way to hack the layout links on the TF program through the reg?
I dont think you can access TF settings through the registry. i have seen many settings for it. just a couple here and there. We may need a fix for it in the form of a CAB. i dont see anyone figuring this out through RegEdits. im sure a lot of people have been through it and tried different things, so we may just have to wait for a new ROM?

Push internet is a new thing in the TP2. It downloads web pages on a schedule so they're ready when you need it. T-mobile took out the feature, presumably to save bandwidth.

aahhh!!! didn't know that...thanx
I have been checking through reg again.
I think that in the Hkey_CU/Software/HTC/Manila/ we are missing some of the Keys to push internet. I see that you can setup some of the push internet features but there are no options like the URL, download times, or anything, but just below the same area allows you to configure almost every other auto download service like schedule your stock, and download times, weather, auto-download.
Maybe someone with push internet working can post a pic of the push internet settings from Hkey_CU/Software/HTC/Manila/
There's also bound to be an XML file or additional settings in the existing one (InternetPortal-en-us.xml) and t-mobile might have removed a DLL or two. What we really need is a file-comparison of the two devices as well as a registry comparison.
