I changed the entire housing on my Hermes as it was looking a little battered. All seemed ok but now when I slide the keyboard open the orientation stays in portrait mode. Also the keyboard light stays off. I've tested another keyboard pcb from an old broken hermes and the same problem persists.
Does ANYONE have any clue as to how I could fix this, or if it's even fixable. Not as bothered about the backlight....
Also my internal mic volume has gotten really low. I have to switch to loudspeaker unless i'm in a really quiet room!
there is a magnet in the housing that triggers a switch to swap the screen, did you swap it over?
It'll either be what beermonster65 said above, or possibly the ribbon connector which connects the screen to the mainboard isn't plugged in properly - I had that when I opened mine up to repair the sliders.

As far as I knew I switched over everything from the old housing. What does this magnet look like and where is it? If i've lost it is there a possible fix?
Thank you both for your responses so far.
Any news on the mic issue also?
My buds Droid 2 back light doesn't work anymore as well as the touch screen digitizer. Is the back light in the LCD itself or is that a seperate part? I told him I would fix it and I need to know what to order.
I'm having a similar issue, My wife got the phone wet, so we dried it out. That part went well....
Well she got a new phone, and I put the Droid 2 in a draw, and recently found it again, deciding to look it over, I charged it up, turn it on.
Here is what problems it has, No Backlight on the LCD display, No LED Nofication lights, No keyboard lights, No Digitizer touch.
The phone boots and works, sounds work, OS is intact and under a flashlight I can see the screen.
my question is does the ribbon cable control all of these? or are the seperate problems?
I am having an odd backlight issue I am including pics to hop someone can understand what I am trying to say. If i turn on the phone with the screen closed the backlight doesn't someone but the screen does and you can see the screen and use it if it is in direct sunlight. If you open the screen about half and inch the backlight comes on as when it is fully slid open. I am at a loss is this the Flex cable or is there a switch in the phone for the screen that could cause this?
thanks,
yonu
My daughter's device has been having all sorts of problems. Her backlight stopped working so I replaced the Digitizer and the LCD screen but that didn't help at all. The calibration doesn't work and the screen won't rotate. In addition, her headphone jack is on the blink as well. Do I need to replace the motherboard flex cable or is there something else going on? The ambient light sensor seems to be on the fritz as well which might explain the backlight not working. The phone is using stock Android. Thanks for all and any help.
I have replaced the screen, LCD and frame on my VS980 due to dead sections of the screen. There were no problems swapping everything over to the new frame. The phone seemed to be working perfectly until I went into a dark room. When I am in a room with little to no light knock on does not work and if I press the power button the screen times out while I am swiping the home screen. Which component will cause this problem? I double checked each piece before reassembly and everything appeared to be properly installed.
Have you tried the motion sensor calibration? For me i press the power and volume down button quickly and it unlocks. Have you update the touch firmware?
I did the motion sensor calibration and it didn't help. the dialer codes I have found for the vs980 don't get me into the service menu.
I dont know for sure but i think its the hardware problem as in replacing the new LCD and all, but ya that be expensive to buy new ones just after buying a new one. If it still have warranty maybe replacing it perhaps. If the service menu dont work, i dunno.
Your proximity sensor may not be plugged in all the way.
How does the phone work while making a call?
Test it first. If the screen stays on during a call while the phone is held to your face, open it back up and double check all connections.
Unplug and replug the screen, digitizer connections, selfie cam and proxy sensor connections then test again.
The proximity sensor which is top left when looking at the front display. Smush and/or rub with your finger, then try to unlock again. I have to do this frequently.
