g1 backlight issue - G1 General

I am having an odd backlight issue I am including pics to hop someone can understand what I am trying to say. If i turn on the phone with the screen closed the backlight doesn't someone but the screen does and you can see the screen and use it if it is in direct sunlight. If you open the screen about half and inch the backlight comes on as when it is fully slid open. I am at a loss is this the Flex cable or is there a switch in the phone for the screen that could cause this?
thanks,
yonu

No LED on answer/hangup buttons on hinge

Hi,
When i first setup my Exec using personal mode, the answer and hangup buttons on the hinge woudl illuminate when a call came in (when the unit is closed like a laptop). Now i am using it in corporate mode, the LED's don't illuminate. They only illuminate when the screen is rotated into PDA mode.
I am assuming this is a reg hack. Does anybody know what it is? or has anybody else got this problem?
Cheers
Paul
They don't illuminate when the device is closed, only when you have the screen open or facing outwards.

And very annoying it is too - especially when both buttons look so similar when not illuminated. This must be hackable?
This has got to be one of the most annoying features of the exec.
Also i have found that if the device is closed, MSVC does not recognise anything you say when activated via BT.
I have never really played with the device in personal mode as the GUI is bollox so cannot comment on if the buttons light up or not when the device is closed. But what i do know is that when it is closed the screen is switched off as if the device is in standby mode, maybe this has something to do with it.
I try to memorize the position of the green button in relation to how I always hold the phone and feel for it like a Braille board. So far I get it 75% of the time.
is anybody using the 'Personal' install on their exec? can they confirm if the LED's are illuminated or not when the phone rings when it is closed?
Cheers
Paul
Someone who's actually opened the Universal may be able to confirm this, but I suspect that the answer/hang up buttons on the hinge don't actually have LED's. I believe that they simply use the light from the screen's backlight to illuminate. As near as I can tell, they're only on when the screen backlight is on.
If that is the case, then there probably won't be a way to get them to illuminate when the case is closed, unless someone can figure out how to get the backlight to stay on when the case is closed (which would also be a big battery waster)
Brett
Yup, i can confirm this. I've just removed the cover on the top of the hinge. There is one wrapped cable coming out of the base at the right hand side. This then splits off, the main part goes up into the pivot hole, and a thinner wrapped wire brakes away from this and attaches to a small pcb which has the buttons and the LED's mounted on it.
Yes, the buttons are only illuminated when the backlight is on, but the brightness of the buttons remains constant even when the backlight brightness is turned down.
Cheers

As far as I see it, even if the backlight has to come on that wouldn't be a problem - after all, the phone is waking up in order to ring. I also often open up the screen slightly to see who's calling, then close it and press the answer button - therefore switching on the backlight initially would actually save time!
Maybe somebody knows of a "wake-on-ring" hack
I've just noticed it with my new Qtek 9000 and I was very worried, because I thought my device is broken.
But now I know this is "normal", but it's very annoying :?
I wish I had this problem! .. since yesterday my JJ seems to have those lights permanently on even when I switch the device off
Guys, I've made a program that will keep the hinge leds on all the time.
Actually this is an accidental discovery for a program I'm working on for this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37201&highlight=
Those guys want to be able to use the keys and phone functions with the lid closed.
I'll post more in that thread, but basically closing the lid puts the hardware keys in a special state such that they are not responsive at all until the device is woken internally (eg by an incoming phone call). Actually, can someone confirm that the hinge keys work when a call comes in but the lid is closed. I presume they must, since they don't do anything else!
So, the hinge lights are on when the screen is on. But the screen is switched off when the lid reaches about 10 degrees to closing. But the hinge lights can be kept on nevertheless
Grem: are you using TCPMP or a similar program to play music etc in the background? Anything that tries to keep the phone "on" when the lid is closed will keep the hinge lights on.

Hi vijay555
I've actually just done a complete cold re-boot and reflashed to the original i-mate factory ROM to see if that would help, then came here in search of anyone having a similar issue.
It started yesterday, i suspect I've had an internal meltdown somewhere, plugged it into sync, noticed a few minutes later it had randomly done a warm reset and appeared stuck on the blue i-mate screen, picked it up and the sucker was hotter than an AMD without a heatsink! I suspect it's warranty time for this unit
Grem, that's worrying. What were you doing at the time? What brand/operator etc is the phone? It might be worth posting batch numbers or whatever for people that have this kind of problem so we can identify if some are worse then others.

It's an i-mate straight from the wholesaler no particular operator. Had it a couple of months, have seen other reports on the forum here which sound perhaps similar in that they've overheated.

Vogue replacement screen functions intermidantly

I am currently in discussions with the screen's vendor about the issue, but I figure somebody might have some advice to offer here too. I purchased a replacement screen for my Vogue after I cracked the factory LCD. Touch membrane was fine.
Opened the phone, pulled out the old LCD, replaced with new one, etc. At first, the "new" screen seemed to not power on at all - then after several cycles of open phone/test connections with old LCD/rebuild with new LCD I finally got the backlight on, yet the display itself seems to not be working. There is an ever so slight greenish glow in the bottom left corner of the replacement screen when the backlight was on.
Several hours later, during which time the phone just sat on my desk idle (but on) I hit the power button to turn on the screen and was dismayed that the backlight did not come on (simmilarly to how it was originally.) I am certain the phone was assembled correctly, all connections are secure, etc.
The vendor suggested adjusting brightness/contrast settings, which I skeptically tried to no avail with MyMobiler. So at this point, the backlight seems to work when it wants to and the display seems to not work well at all.
Has anyone else seen anything like this?

Help. Atrix screen won't turn on

My Atrix's screen randomly stopped displaying anything. You can see that the backlight turns on and off but nothing ever displays. The screen isn't physically damaged and the touch sensor is also functioning just fine. If I plug it into my Lapdock - I can use the phone with no issues, I'll just never get any sort of display on the cellphone's screen (Outputs to Lapdock's screen just fine).
Any ideas or suggestions?
are you able to adjust screen settings when you're on lapdock? (and does this change anything?)
It does sound a hardware issue with your screen... maybe others on here can offer more help
Just tried playing around with the settings - no luck
Do you think maybe the display cable somehow disconnected? I'm not sure how the Atrix is designed but I think you'd normally have a separate cable for backlight, touch, and display. Maybe I'll try disassembling it and report back.

LG G2 -- Screen brightness can't exceed 40%

Hello.
The other day my phone suffered a little water damage. Not submerged in water or anything, but a couple drops found their way into the phone. The phone was turning off/on and functioning, but the display was black. I could feel buttons being pressed and stuff...the screen just wasn't illuminated. Well, I left it alone for a while, and now the screen works to a degree.
It's functioning perfectly, except it can't go above 40% brightness or the phone's screen goes black. As soon as I move the slider at or below 40%, the screen works perfectly again.
Obviously whatever illuminates the screen is damaged to some degree. The same thing happens when using apps like Lux...so I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem now. I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what exactly could be damaged so I can fix it myself, or have anything to try before taking it apart again.
Thanks!

Always on 2nd screen in the dark issue ??

I bought a used V20 with a defective screen. I change it, everything work for fine, but i notice a strange behaviour with the second screen.
The second screen is always on and i can unlock it by only touching the finger print sensor. BUT at night (or in the dark), the second screen turn off and i need to press 2 times on the power button to wake the phone.
The Knock On feature doesn't work too in the dark.
The light sensor seems to work correctly.
I would love to post a video but i can't......
This is an issue or it is normal ??
Thanks for your help !
Sounds like Doze.
I don't find anything related to Doze or "standby" about this screen.
check "daily timeout" on Show when main screen off. Seem u turn this function on at night

Sounds like there is an issue with the proximity sensor (not light sensor).
It's setup to turn the second screen off as well as disable knock on if the phone is in your pocket. Even during daylight hours if you put your finger within an inch of the sensor when the main screen is off, it should trigger it.
It seems your sensor may just be messed up.

There are a few apps on the play store you can try to fix it if you are rooted. You could also try a sensor app to see if the proximity sensor is showing feedback properly although you might need to be rooted for the apps to show the proximity sensor properly (not sure). My note 4 had a hardware test in the service menu not sure how to do it on V20 though.
Same Issue
Edit: Resolved the issue. Please read this post. There is a small rubber gasket-type thing that sits in the hole of the phone's frame where the proximity sensor is positioned. That rubber gasket was not included with my replacement screen. I pulled the rubber piece out of my original, broken screen, and installed it into my replacement screen. I am no longer having issues with the phone in the dark.
I am experiencing the same issue. I have a T-Mobile LG v20 (H918) and I cracked the screen last week. I ordered a replacement LCD assembly and installed it myself. Everything works fine during the day or in a well lit room, but at night, in a dark room, I experience all of the issues you are reporting. I am finding other posts online with our same issue, but as of yet, no resolution.
Even though the second screen is set to always be on, at night, in a dark room, it turns off almost immediately after locking the phone. It is almost as if the phone is in a "deep sleep" or something, because the following also occurs:
Knock On will not wake the phone
Fingerprint sensor will not wake the phone
Even connecting to the phone via AirDroid / AirMirror the phone doesn't wake
Need to press the power button multiple times to wake phone
Providing a light source immediately turns on second screen and resolves all issues
