Can I still use the PDA function of hermes even without a sim, whatever the firmware is (1.04, 1.06, 1.09) ? or it will be locked ?
Sorry that I clicked new threat, but I wanted to be sure my question would be seen
thank you
Yes you can. Just radio functions will be limited of course.
V
if it's not clear how...
you will need a sim to do this (the original network if the device is locked), but just turn the device on and go to connection manager.
in there, turn off phone (radio functions) and the device will operate as if it's on airplane mode from then on.
It is yes
ok, thank you for your answers ! ь
and.. is there a way just to do it without SIM inside ?
thanks

are you running it with the softbank rom? if so, there shouldn't be a way to do that without the softbank sim. that stupid screen telling you to insert a sim will appear when a softbank sim is not inserted and that won't let you do anything from there.
there is another way of killing that stupid screen using sb_usim if you still have the earlier softbank rom on it. i hear that sb_usim can't kill that screen if it's the new rom with bootloader 1.09. search for sb_usim in this forum if you are interested, but that still requires the softbank sim in it to install it in the first place.
Another trick with bootoader 1.09 ?

Are you sure about that ? I mean, the already known trick of 1.09 by softbank was that you can not SIM unlock . Then now, you say that you can not kill the pop up screen for usim even with sb_usim
...hum...
what would happen if I manage to downgrade from 1.09 to 1.04/1.06 bootloader, would it change the situation (=make me able to use the PDA function of my device)?
thank you for any lights

i don't believe it's just the bootloader issue with sb_usim but give it a try. softbank has completely changed the way of locking the device with the new rom.

1st off, let me say how great I think this forum is. I apologize in advance if this topic has been covered, but I've searched here and can't find it.
I was given a T-Mobile PW10B1 with the following device info...
ROM 4.01.16 ENG
ROM date 02/04/04
Radio 6.25.02
Protocol 324e4
I need to unlock it to work with Cingular. It currently has no SIM or SD card in it, although I've ordered a SIM card that I should have by Friday.
When I put XDAULOCK.exe on it to run, I get the "error getting unlock code" message. When I try to flash the ROM using XDA-DEVELOPERS-SER-V12.exe, here's what I get in a DOS window..."ErrorGetConnectionType An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. Error getting connection type".
The pda WILL sync up, but can't copy these files over.
Is this enough info for anyone to offer suggestions? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

This ROM only allows downgrading to another ROM via SD-Card.....
Instructions for this you can get here:

This may be your next problem. This Radio Version do not work with the xdaunlock tool. You have to downgrade Radio Stack first Instructions can be found here:
http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/tools/manual2_unlock.htm
Have you already checked if the device is really locked?
I would suggest that you wait for your sim-card and try it, before you reflash your device....

Thanks
LS,
Great info-thanks! I'm not sure if it's truly locked or not. How can I tell for sure? Right now, I'm on an OLD TDMA phone/plan, so when I'm SURE I have it unlocked, I'm upgrading my plan to a GSM plan. So the danger there is, if I have to have Cingular try to activate my new pda/phone, I'll have to change plans first, and if it's not unlocked, I can't use my old TDMA phone!
I think I'll get as SD card and try the 1st suggestion, and try to leave the radio alone for now-what do you think?

You can borrow a SIM-Card of a friend of your. The process just took a few miuntes. Insert the SIM in the Wallaby, start the device, enter SIM Code and watch the display. If you get connected to the network all is fine. Otherwise, when you have to insert a SID-Code, the phone is locked.
For unlocking you have to follow the process described in the second link. First link is just for changing the ROM....

First off, state your problem, second off ALL CAPS IS TOTALLY ANYOING.
To check if your Device is locked, pit in a different simcard (so not a simcard from the same provider but a DIFFERENT one). If it asks a unlock code it's locked.
Second, installing WM6 (probably) requires your device to be CID unlocked.
(here comes the irony) Look up a topic, or use to search function on CID and you'll find allot of ways/solution to un cidlock your device and be able to flash it with whatever rom you want.
If you want to find out if your phone is CID unlocked, download Wizard Service Tools, install it on your computer and then click the CID actions button and it will tell you if you're CID unlocked or not.
Hello All,
I have flashed my T-Mobile UK branded HD2 with an official HTC ROM using the GoldCard method and then to several Cooked ROMs using HSPL.
Does this mean my phone is now unbranded and I can flash other HTC Official ROMs without using the GoldCard method? i.e. how someone would flash an unbranded HD2 bought say from somewhere like mobilephonesdirect.
I'm aware my phone is still locked to the T-Mobile network which I'm fine with. My question is purely to do with removing T-Mobile's customizations.
I'm really asking because I want to be able to flash a valid HTC ROM to my device if the following happens:
I install HSPL
I flash my device to a cooked ROM
Something goes wrong
I can't get active sync to work/device won't boot into windows
I need to go back to official ROM for warranty
Cheers,
mac
If you use hspl no need for goldcard at all. you can flash anything from usb with hspl, official or cooked.
You dont need the phone to be booted to flash over usb. Boot to bootloader, connect usb, run the flash.
Thanks Sam,
I was under the impression you had to be connected via active sync to FLASH using HSPL (at least that's what the instructions say when using the tool).
But I still would like to be able restore my to a warranty friendly state.
Is my phone unbranded once I've flashed with the GoldCard or must I use the it every time I want to flash without HSPL?
Thanks,
mac

Yea thats a common mistake caused by the way the guides, and various other answers in threads are written.
When you connect the phone in bootloader mode, so long as the word serial changes to usb you should be good to go.
But I still would like to be able restore my to a warranty friendly state.

Of course. You have two ways
1 (for both methods)- download the tmo original official rom, official roms thread, 1st post, 1st link, 1.43 folder.
then either
2 - extract the nbh file, copy it to sd card (no need for goldcard, stock 2gb card will be fine) rename leoimg.nbh then start phone in bootloader to flash.
OR
3 - STEP 1 - run the t mo stock you downloaded and flash over usb, which restores the rom to stock, and then STEP 2 - run HSPL2 again and choose the stock spl. (HSPL has 8 spl's listed when you run it, 4 stock and 4 hspl,) Choose 1.43.0000 and thats it, back to stock.
Is my phone unbranded once I've flashed with the GoldCard or must I use the it every time I want to flash without HSPL?

That doesnt really make sense. As soon as you flash any method, the phone is then unbranded. removing the tmo rom is unbranding.
What YOU mean is ''is the phone rom unlocked?' and the answer is no, it will always be rom locked to tmo, (different to sim lock) so if you want to flash without hspl then you will need the goldcard.
Cheers Sam,
That answers my question. HSPL it is.
Is there a way of removing the ROM Lock?

only hspl. nothing permanent. (well, hspl IS permanent till you remove it, but you know what I mean)
Am i reading this correctly? You are saying that HSPL removes network sim lock?
I need to know whether i will be able to unlock my T Mobile UK HD2 on 1.42 SPL, after a HSPL flash and i have put another ROM on my phone.
Is there any way that flashing can remove the sim lock or prevent me from being able to unlock my phone?
no you miss read the post. rom lock is not sim lock.they're unconnected.
Can anyone answer this, so i can get on with it?

Off Topic, but, a word of advice (and to all who may read this).
I have noticed a few of your posts asking stuff that is readily available in the stickies at the head of each forum section.
Things like unlock and memory available etc.
If you really want to know these things then read all the stickies, then search and then ask if you are still in the dark.
Jumping in with questions that have been asked many times over is not a great way to get the attention of members.
Remeber the stickies are there for a reason.
Hey all,
just grabbed a 2nd hand tmobile hero from CEX.
tried to pop my o2 sim straight in just it case it just worked. it didnt. so i went away and bought a sim card unlock code. got it but then realised i had nowhere to enter it.....the phone doesnt ask for a code when it boots.
when the phone locks it has a pic of the sim and says "No Service"
and when i goto "search for mobile networks" i get the full set - o2 - tmobile - orange - 3 - vodafone....but when i select o2 or anything else it says "your sim card does not allow connection to this network"....
im stumped.
any ideas?
It should ask for the unlock code once any NON-Tmobile sim is inserted.
So it should ask for a code with your O2 sim in.
UNLESS,.... Your O2 sim is a freebie that came through the post months ago. Check the expiry date on the sim. But if it has been activated already and works fine in another handset then it could be your handset that is faulty.
... One more thing.
Some Orange handsets were shipped with a ROM that could not be unlocked unless you downgrade the ROM 1st. This could also be the issue.
cheers for quick help mate.
i read a bit about the orange prob but this is a tmobile handset....
its a contract o2 sim that ive had for AGES.
just popped in a mates vodafone sim PAYG and it's still booted all the way to the android home screen without asking for an unlock code! how strange....
ive gone to the "connect to mobile network" menu and selected vodafone and it's just sitting, saying "registering on vodafone uk"....its been sat there for 5 mins now.
im thinkin the aerial maybe faulty?
or it might be stolen and be disabled?
....
but neither of those explain why it doesnt ask for an unlock code at boot does it???
Aha,....
I looks like you might actually have the same issue as some Orange handsets,... Apparently some T-Mobile ROMS are "perfect spl's", which do need downgrading before any unlocking or custom ROM flashing can be done.
Use BTDAG's guide linked in my signature.
- Start at the top 1st to try and install the custom recovery. But this should fail at some point. This means that you do infact have the perfect spl issue and will need to create a goldcard to downgrade your ROM. All the info you need for that is further down the 1st post in BTDAG's guide. This is a little long winded to do, can take about an hour or so to colmplete, but well worth it.
Ideally, it would save you time if you could get hold of a T-Mobile SIM 1st just to confirm that it hasn't been reported lost/stolen, it'd be a right pain in the ass if you spent time downgrading for no reason.
Also,... make a note of the rom you have currently installed just incase you do downgrade and find out its a dudd. That way you can reflash it to factory state to get your refund.
ok. thanks loads....that sounds possible....it feels like a phone issue rather than a connection issue, not sure why, it just does.
here goes.
cheers again.
Good luck bruv,... Keep me updated on how it goes.
ah..i popped onto https://www.checkmend.com a few minutes ago just to check. it says the imei is blocked on some networks but hasnt been reported stolen...phew..
yup "backup failed"...
time to make myself a coffee
Anychance you could give me a screenprint of what details checkmend gives you.
Just so I know for future ref.
Take out any sensitive details, i.e.... imei.
hmm..it hasnt worked - it says "no service" now. and still says that "this sim cannot connect to that network" when trying to choose o2.
it also boots up into airplane mode.
i now get an Droid startup screen rather than Tmobile so im assuming the flash has worked ok???

still hasnt asked for a network code.

its so weird. i keep wondering if i'm doing anything stupid....the shop had another hero, an orange one - i maybe will just go back in and try and swap em. but if they test it with a tmobile simcard and it works i'm kinda stuffed aint i?

Phew!!!
No, no,.... U NEED to flash with a 1.5 ROM 1st. 2.1 ROMs aren't accepting the unlock codes for some reason.
Flash it with a 1.5 rom, unlock, then put Villian back on,... All will be ok!
2.1? 1.5? you've lost me! lol
ahhh...you're talking about android versions right? 1.5 is cupcake right???
does it need 1.5 on to unlock or should it have tried to unlock when i had the recovery rom on there? cause it didnt ask there either....

Yeah yeah. So before you put the recovery on, you had to downgrade the ROM yeah, then after that you put the Amon Ra Custom Recovery on yeah?... and than after that you put the Villian Rom on? Thats correct yeah?
When you downgraded the ROM you could have unlocked it then as that would have been an Android 1.5 ROM.
But Villian is 2.1.
Use the link to MCR3.2 in my link and install that.
hmm...well when i put the recovery on, the amon ra 1.6.2, i had my sim in and it still didnt prompt for a sim unlock code when i booted.
i'll try the MCR one when i get home from work tonight.
i ordered a rebel sim the other day just in case - should be getting that thru soon - it might help?

Yeah try MCR tonight and let me know.
I'v been using a rebelsim on mine since I got it, its still locked to Orange but happily using my O2 sim with no issues. But you dont want the money you already spent on your unlock code to go to waste do ya.
i dont but failing technology can make a frustrated dude spend money like water cant it!?!?
i will try and get a refund if i dont end up using the code.
cheers for your help and i'll try the mcr anyway tonight.
Can anyone help me?
Yesterday I installed VISONary R14 and ran Temproot then Permroot. with the view to flashing a ROM today.
After charging the phone today I now have "No SIM card in phone" message. I have changed the contract sim I have to a PAYG and still have the same message.
The phone is locked/Branded to Orange UK and happens with the abouve 2 orange sims.
Has running VISONary caused the problem? Can I revert back to anything?

The issue is not caused by Visionary. Please test in some other phone that your SIM card works. Make sure that you put it to your phone carefully, and it goes in the right way.
It might be network lock problem, you could try the SimUnlock feature in my Radio S-OFF tool.

Thanks for the quick reply. I have tried both sims in other phones and they work ok. Put them in the DHD and I get the error about no sim.
Okay. If you are absolutely sure that you have inserted the SIM into your DHD correctly, the only thing left to try is SimUnlock. If you do not want to do that, you have to send your device to a HTC service center.

Yes its contact side down and cut off to the right. I've just had a look at your SimUnlock and its .exe which I can't run on a mac.
I don't mind doing it but is there a mac alternative?
Cheers
The easiest way is to get a Windows PC. There is no GUI tool for MAC, you will have to use command line.

Use Visionary's unroot option, remove Visionary as you would remove any other app and reboot your phone.
Changing a sim card would most likely not work on the Orange phone as its locked to that network. $20 if u want it unlocked from Orange. Just a bit of side info for you
