1st off, let me say how great I think this forum is. I apologize in advance if this topic has been covered, but I've searched here and can't find it.
I was given a T-Mobile PW10B1 with the following device info...
ROM 4.01.16 ENG
ROM date 02/04/04
Radio 6.25.02
Protocol 324e4
I need to unlock it to work with Cingular. It currently has no SIM or SD card in it, although I've ordered a SIM card that I should have by Friday.
When I put XDAULOCK.exe on it to run, I get the "error getting unlock code" message. When I try to flash the ROM using XDA-DEVELOPERS-SER-V12.exe, here's what I get in a DOS window..."ErrorGetConnectionType An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. Error getting connection type".
The pda WILL sync up, but can't copy these files over.
Is this enough info for anyone to offer suggestions? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

This ROM only allows downgrading to another ROM via SD-Card.....
Instructions for this you can get here:

This may be your next problem. This Radio Version do not work with the xdaunlock tool. You have to downgrade Radio Stack first Instructions can be found here:
http://lumpistefan.dyndns.org/tools/manual2_unlock.htm
Have you already checked if the device is really locked?
I would suggest that you wait for your sim-card and try it, before you reflash your device....

Thanks
LS,
Great info-thanks! I'm not sure if it's truly locked or not. How can I tell for sure? Right now, I'm on an OLD TDMA phone/plan, so when I'm SURE I have it unlocked, I'm upgrading my plan to a GSM plan. So the danger there is, if I have to have Cingular try to activate my new pda/phone, I'll have to change plans first, and if it's not unlocked, I can't use my old TDMA phone!
I think I'll get as SD card and try the 1st suggestion, and try to leave the radio alone for now-what do you think?
D
You can borrow a SIM-Card of a friend of your. The process just took a few miuntes. Insert the SIM in the Wallaby, start the device, enter SIM Code and watch the display. If you get connected to the network all is fine. Otherwise, when you have to insert a SID-Code, the phone is locked.
For unlocking you have to follow the process described in the second link. First link is just for changing the ROM....

Try to upgrade the ROM to 3.17 from this site and it will unlock your device with the first boot

Good luck ...
I'm sure this is a dum ? but do see a link to download the update. I saw the part that talked about having a box and dont have all of that. Could someone hook me up with the update.

Actually, there's enough smoke and mirrors involved in all of this that you'll quickly learn there are no dumb questions.
First, go to a site that is running a "ROM kitchen" and cook up a ROM, such as:
http://kitchen.romanweb.com/kitchen/index.php
Create a 3.17.03 ROM with no config data and uncheck all of the optional software, so you have an absolutely bare-bones 3.17.03 OM with no frills.
Second, Find some way to back up your existing ROM, either onto an SD card or onto your computer.
Third, install the 3.17 ROM on your XDA. Many here prefer the SD card method of loading; I took my chances just using the .exe with the device in the USB cradle with no problems. Once loaded, when you boot up, it will say "Your Device's SIM appears to be locked, would you like to unlock it?" You simply select "yes" and that's that... I literally had the 3.17 ROM on my device for all of one boot and no more than 20 seconds. Then load your existing ROM or a newly "cooked" feature-laden ROM from one of the kitchens back on to your device and you're back in "bidness."
I too made the journey from ATTWS to T-Mo and with a little luck, and a little help from people here, it went very smoothly.
Everyone here has a different level of experience, both on matters technical and matters XDA, so don't be afraid to ask any questions you might have so you have a clear picture of the whole process before you start.

Thanks for all of your help guys. Got it too work
Kitchen ROM Errors
Hello all,
I have been reading all day on the forum, as am an SX56 owner (former AT&T) now with T-Mobile and want to get it working and unlocked on their network.
I cooked up the 3.17 ROM as an executable, and downloaded the rom.exe file.
Each time I run it, it starts up the DOS window, then the Uploader Software, then gives me an Error 007 Dialog window, Cannot find the ROM image to upgrade your Pocket PC. Please download and try again.
I have tried this three times now, but cannot get to the 3.17 so I can unlock, and get to WM2003 and the new radio stack for T-Mobile.
HELP!!!! Thanks
Hello ..
It seems you do need to try the SD card method. Either to get SD card and reader/writer and cook your new ROM as .nb1 file, or to get a SD backup for the ROM from any other t-mobile device.
Mad Max,
1st, how do you back up your current ROM? Please provide step by step procedure.
2nd, How do you load your original ROM back in? When you load back your original ROM, does the phone get locked again?
3rd, it looks like you've done what I want to do, can you please provide a step by step on how you installed the 3.17 ROM on the XDA using the USB cradle?
Thanks in advance.
Hi everybody
Yesterday i had a problem trying to upgrade my wallaby to radiostack 6.18 tu RSU 6.24.
When i was doing the upgrade with the rsu files and the upgrade was in 88% in the screen appears:
" Upgrade problem, please reset" (something like that :? )
When i did the reset i got the boot screen and in the corner only i get the ROM version. The radio stack dissapears and then im not able to have my wallaby works.
Then i get into the wallaby bootloader version 5.15 and i got the following message:
GSM-ERROR
I reset the device a lot of times and nothing. i think " god i lost mi phone"
and then reading posts and posts i solve the problem in this way:
1:- I cook a rom image in an sd card using Xtools and a card reader instaled in your pc.
2.- when you finish insert the sd card with the image, enter again bootloader by holding On/Off and doing a soft reset
3.- Bootloader should tell you something that OS is detected on your SD-Card
4.- Press Action Key to install the ROM
5.-After finishing do a hard reset
Now your ROM should be installed on your device.
6.- turn off your device, maybe you will have to press the power button several times.
7.- Remove your SIM card
8.- Turn on your device, wait about 15 minutes and you can see that the device goes out off that frezze screen and gets into the align screen setup.
9. When you get the TODAY screen connect your device in the cradle and make a new asociation for your device
10. get into the windows file with the explorer of activesync on your pc and copy the 4 radio stack files in the windows file of your deviceq and the .exe file in the \Windows\StartUp folder of your device.
11. Restart the device and the upgrade will begins automaticaly in the back ground
12. when it sucsesfully done, do a soft reset and you must have your radio stack upgrade done and your wallaby completly recovered.
13.- Insert your SIM card again and enjoy
I hope this guide will help you
Rememeber to copy the correct radio stack in your device, i used the RSU 6.24 because i have a PW10B1 wallaby. check your version in the label in the rear part off your device
[/b]
if this tip results succesfully to someone please let me know. thanks
Well done, not many people manage to repair corrupt/missing radio stack, thanks for the details also, it may help resurrect other dead Wallabys.

Thanks Stefan - I saw elsewhere what the password was, and noticed it was missing from the URL. I got the RSU file and have finally managed to get it on to the XDA, but still fails every time it restarts... the old 1% problem... Do you know if it is easier to update the radio stack from an SD card? The XDA is running the special edition ROM, which has at least given me back some control of the device.
Thanks in anticipation

I have the same problem, every time my device restarts, and stop at 1%. So I am wondering if Stefan can help us to give us solution in this case.
Worth the risk?
After reading this ordeal, is it worth the risk to upgrade a working radio stack? Does the telephone work substantially better after the upgrade?
Try other RSU's

Hi, have you tried using other RSU versions? I had the same problem too (1% fail) using 4.16. After giving up on the 4.16, I tried RSU 4.21 (exe). One shot and I was able to re-flash my RSU. What I did differently was to remove the AC power while doing the RSU upgrade (the exe file prompted me). Hope you get your wallaby up and running again.
I try alot of times but it stop at 1% - full batery got the same result.
help.
Re: Try other RSU's
Thank you for your help. I have tried many vensions of RSU, such as 4.16, 4.21, 6.24, 6.25, etc. But all of them showed 1% mistake.

Hi guys i have a pw10a1 too, and my radio version is 4.21, i really think it sucks. so is it a good idea to downgrade to 4.16??? or will it only be made worse. or can i use the 6.25.02 version? or is that for another phone type.. PWIEW srry for all the questions .. if 1 is awnsered. i'm happy
Hi all. I appologize for starting a new thread, but I wasn't sure which topic to post under as this problem seems to span a few. In short, here's my problem: I'm trying to upgrade my Tmobile UK MDA Vario to 2.26.10.2 from 1.6.2.4 WWE. I'm using the stock Tmobile USA ROM updater available from the tmobileapps site.
When I run the upgrade file I get a failure with an Error 294 - Invalid Vender ID. While I don't understand why UK and USA would have different locks, I figured fine, I'll use lokiwiz to unlock my phone.
I've tried lokiwiz 0.2b to unlock the CID, but I get the itsutils.dll error (that it can't update the file).
So now I'm stuck. I can't upgrade the ROM using the US ROM, and I can't seem to CID unlock the phone to allow me to use another ROM. The official UK ROM is sitting a few versions back, and I don't want to have to upgrade twice, so that's out (unless someone can point me to a site where I can get the newer UK ROM).
Anyone know what I should try? I'm kinda stumped. The only think I can think of is that I'm only activesynced to this computer as a Guest, not as a real activesync pairing. Could that effect either the ROM upgrade or the unlocker?
For reference, here's more info about my phone:
IPL 1.06
SPL 1.01
GSM 1.12.10
OS 1.6.2.4
Any help or pointers would be appreciated!
Did u install the EnableRAPI CAB in your phone before starting lokiwiz?
Also, i remember that i had to run lokiwiz 0.2b twice to unlock my phone and my friend's one.
So try this: soft reset the phone, install enableRapi.cab, run lokiwiz and then run it again.
Good luck!
bye!
Yup, that was it. I thought I only needed the EnableRAPI CAB if I was SIM unlocking. Silly me.
Thank you!

Alright. That's what I was hoping you would say. Your 2.25 IPL/SPL means you have a G3 which is the only model that can be CID unlocked and CID unlocking is the only way you're getting T-Mobile firmware on your 8125.
Lets begin. You really hope you are VERY GOOD(better than very good preferably). The first step in your adventure is to downgrade your device from a 2.25 IPL using the button rom. You want to make sure your device is connected to your PC via ActiveSync or first put your device into bootloader mode by turning it off and then holding the camera button while powering it back on.
Now your device should have an IPL, GSM, and OS that is less than 2.
Now you want to download lokiwiz from here
Make sure your device is connected to your computer via USB cable but do not sync!! CANCEL ACTIVESYNC SETUP BEFORE CONTINUING
Unrar Lokiwiz and run the program lokiwiz v.02b I'm guessing your device is already sim unlocked since you are using a Cingular device with T-Mobile so you can go ahead and click C and then enter. Lokiwiz will CID unlock your phone and then automatically soft reset the device.
When your device powers back on, it will be CID unlocked.
Your next step is to flash the T-Mobile official rom that can be found here.
And now if you did everything correctly, you should now have the official T-Mobile WM5 rom and 2.26 IPL/SPL instead of 2.25. The extended rom, also included with the T-Mobile official rom, will automatically configure your netwok settings so you will also have the T-Mobile EDGE network and all MMS settings will be automatically configured for you.
Now this step is optional but highly reccomended. I reccommend you flash the IPL/SPL 3.08 for faster boot times. It flashes just like any other RUU so it is easy to use. You can download that here.
I really hope this helps you. Please post your results whether good or bad so I know if I was able to help.
NOTE: I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE THAT MAY OCCUR FROM USING THIS METHOD. This method is proven to work and I personally did exactly this same thing to my own phone with no problems.
Will do it today
Thanks very much. I already have my 8125 CID unlocked and SIM unlocked. Yes, I'm moderately good. .LOL.
I will try this today and post the results right after. Also, no worries, you are not liable for any damage that I might cause but fairly certain this will work.
Jay.
IT WORKED!!!
Dan, thanks very much for your clear instructions. It worked like a charm. You're a genius! My 8125 is running IPL/SPL 3.08 now.. I have to reinstall my apps (like ms voice commander, tcpmp etc.). Great work!

Glad I was able to help! Now your 8125 should be more accepting of your T-Mobile sim card and network settings(re-installing apps an un-avoidable part of the rom upgrade process).

I trying to find the way for Flashing via the mtty but not found the correct method.
and the last I tried to flahshing via SD card but not pass

Anyone can help me? plz....
You said you've tried everything and read all posts here but you also said you think your Universal is CID locked. So, you did not try everything! Try to unlock it properly and see if you can flash a new radio ROM. This is the way. If the radio is somehow physically damaged I don't know if there is any hope. Did you read the wiki?
Thank for answer Wovens ,
I'm already to read Wiki of Xda-developers.
and I'm already to tried flash only radio rom or wince, radio , extend rom
Wince and extend can upgrade and working normally but Radio image can't.
Every way that i have to tried, it's can't let me upgrade.
What should I do??? or I must change ma PPC.
Not sure what exactly is the problem you are having, I think you described too many different methods and tried too many things that might not even be relevant to your problem.
I assume you owned your Uni for some time and it wasn't something you just purchased, so it will not be blocked by a network as stolen device/insurance claim paid. So everything works, but you cannot make calls, there is no signal, you have a little X next to your signal strength indicator and when your parameters come during the boot, R parameters are missing. Or you had the R, but couldn't read SIM or make calls. Is your Uni attempting to conect/establish signal?
I recommend opening the back cover and unscrewing the large white plastic thing that contains the camera and stuck on flash. It will be held to the board by 3 screws and a small foil strip under the flash. Be careful not to unplug/rip the flash cables and the foil strip. The large white plastic thing is your GSM antenna. It has 4 mainboard connection points, check that the connectors of the antenna are not damaged and are connecting properly. Other than that if the device is not advising you No SIM has been inserted (e.g. the SIM card is inside, but the device claims it's not) - re-assemble the antenna, camera and flash, reflash the original ROM and try a different SIM card.
Thank you ,enigma1nz
I have to check my GSM antenna. And the leg of antenna it's not damage.
The simcard slot too.
And I have to tried insert different sim card but not working again.

Level = FF means it is a CID locked device. Most likely you flashed another radio without unlocking it and now your radio got locked.
I'm not sure if it's feasible to unlock it at this stage. But why not try...
Try to flash the radio 0.00 (included with CID unlock tool) using no CID check RUU.

If you feel that Uni mainboard in locked radio is not worth then I would say do some experiment....if that helps.
1. Try to download the radio to a SD/MMC card. But card size must not be higher than 2GB and it has to be FAT16 formated.
2. Try to upload (flash) the radio from the same SD, just to check if it works...
3. Let me know if that works and I'll then instruct further...
