Wallaby radio stack upgrade problem solve successfully!! - MDA, XDA, 1010 Software Upgrading

Hi everybody
Yesterday i had a problem trying to upgrade my wallaby to radiostack 6.18 tu RSU 6.24.
When i was doing the upgrade with the rsu files and the upgrade was in 88% in the screen appears:
" Upgrade problem, please reset" (something like that :? )
When i did the reset i got the boot screen and in the corner only i get the ROM version. The radio stack dissapears and then im not able to have my wallaby works.
Then i get into the wallaby bootloader version 5.15 and i got the following message:
GSM-ERROR
I reset the device a lot of times and nothing. i think " god i lost mi phone"
and then reading posts and posts i solve the problem in this way:
1:- I cook a rom image in an sd card using Xtools and a card reader instaled in your pc.
2.- when you finish insert the sd card with the image, enter again bootloader by holding On/Off and doing a soft reset
3.- Bootloader should tell you something that OS is detected on your SD-Card
4.- Press Action Key to install the ROM
5.-After finishing do a hard reset
Now your ROM should be installed on your device.
6.- turn off your device, maybe you will have to press the power button several times.
7.- Remove your SIM card
8.- Turn on your device, wait about 15 minutes and you can see that the device goes out off that frezze screen and gets into the align screen setup.
9. When you get the TODAY screen connect your device in the cradle and make a new asociation for your device
10. get into the windows file with the explorer of activesync on your pc and copy the 4 radio stack files in the windows file of your deviceq and the .exe file in the \Windows\StartUp folder of your device.
11. Restart the device and the upgrade will begins automaticaly in the back ground
12. when it sucsesfully done, do a soft reset and you must have your radio stack upgrade done and your wallaby completly recovered.
13.- Insert your SIM card again and enjoy
I hope this guide will help you
Rememeber to copy the correct radio stack in your device, i used the RSU 6.24 because i have a PW10B1 wallaby. check your version in the label in the rear part off your device
[/b]
if this tip results succesfully to someone please let me know. thanks

Well done, not many people manage to repair corrupt/missing radio stack, thanks for the details also, it may help resurrect other dead Wallabys.

Thanks Stefan - I saw elsewhere what the password was, and noticed it was missing from the URL. I got the RSU file and have finally managed to get it on to the XDA, but still fails every time it restarts... the old 1% problem... Do you know if it is easier to update the radio stack from an SD card? The XDA is running the special edition ROM, which has at least given me back some control of the device.
Thanks in anticipation

I have the same problem, every time my device restarts, and stop at 1%. So I am wondering if Stefan can help us to give us solution in this case.

Worth the risk?
After reading this ordeal, is it worth the risk to upgrade a working radio stack? Does the telephone work substantially better after the upgrade?

Try other RSU's

Hi, have you tried using other RSU versions? I had the same problem too (1% fail) using 4.16. After giving up on the 4.16, I tried RSU 4.21 (exe). One shot and I was able to re-flash my RSU. What I did differently was to remove the AC power while doing the RSU upgrade (the exe file prompted me). Hope you get your wallaby up and running again.

I try alot of times but it stop at 1% - full batery got the same result.
help.

Re: Try other RSU's
Thank you for your help. I have tried many vensions of RSU, such as 4.16, 4.21, 6.24, 6.25, etc. But all of them showed 1% mistake.

You should have read the instructions before trying the upgrade. ROM upgrade goes first, then the radio stack. I don't know if there's something you can do yourself to fix your device, or if you need to have it reflashed by your supplier. Anyone else?

Hi,
Seems like you are another of the many victims who got problems
after trying to upgrading new ROM & Raidio stack. Hope you still
got that warrant and get it replaced with a new one. Otherwise
you might have to try what some crazy guys do here trying to fix
it by doing all sort of bootloader etc.. Hope those who are trying
to get the upgrade ROM and Radio stack be very careful and make
sure your device are from the same supplier or distributor where
you got the new upgrade. Otherwise it will be screwed. Dont learn
your lesson the hard way.
same problem here.
i've got the O2 NL XDA
downloaded the 3.15 and radio updates from O2 NL website
installed updates as per instructions
1st update went without a hitch
2nd update totally screwed my xda.
now it takes a long time to start up, and when it does it just displays a white screen with a blue taskbar.
tried the bootloader way of flashing the rom, but still no luck
luckily I can send it back in to O2 to have it fixed.
I may try to do it by backup up another XDA, and reflashing mine.
Same prob with me..
I've got exactly the same problem. I downloaded the Rom update 3.15 and the new radio update. First I installed teh Rom update and after a hard reset I "installed" the radio update.
While updating the XDA hang and I waited for about ten minutes to see if the XDA was really hanging. I gave the XDA a hard reset but then the XDA didn't work anymore (white screen and blue bar on top).
I can still access the bootloader. I installed a Rom from a XDA which still works. Still no difference. When I tried to write the Radio rom to a sd-card I got that message that I have to connect one or another RS cable.
The XDA still doesn't work anymore. I have contacted O2 but they told me that they couldn't help me because they can't find my IMEI number in their system. I contacted the company where we ordered all the XDA's but I still don't have an answer.
Thank you O2 for being so nice with not helping me out with my one week old XDA without any scratch. I hope my XDA could be replaced as soon as possible since the XDA will not sold anymore when O2 changes to Telfort !
If you can make the ROM update work, you should be able to install the corresponding radio as well.
Try this:
1. Make sure you have the latest version of ActiveSync (=3.6)
2. Make sure the battery is fully loaded.
3. Extract the ROM update and Radio update to different folders.
3. Connect the cradle to AC-adapter and computer.
4. Put the device in the cradle and make sure it connects to ActiveSync.
5. Run the ROM installation application. Should take 5-6 minutes.
6. Run the radio installation. IMPORTANT: When you are prompted to remove power supply, pull the power plug from the cradle. If you do not disconnect power, the update will fail. I think this update took a little more time than the ROM update, and the device may seem "dead" for a while.
Good luck!
Hy Guys.
Are there any news about the problem flashing the XDA?
Tried last night to update my XDA to the last Qtek-Versions (ROM 3.16.52.....)
ROM Update works fine, but after the RSU Update the phone didn't work any more.
Have the same white screen with the blue taskbar and the little keyboardicaon down the right side.
Entering Bootloader mode there comes the Error Message "GSM Error"
Nice screen is the qtek "Booting Screen".
It shows
G <empty>
R <empty>
3.16.52
Hope there are any other hints to resolv this problem.
Have anyone got some experiences with sending it back to O2 with an "unoffical" Softwareversion?
Or is there any posibility to change the ROM Version to an old (original) O2-RomVErsion?
Thanks for any help....
Regards
Stefan
Hi Stefan,
I would suggest to try upgrade you device with any XDA ROM version by bootloader's CE to SD backup/restore and after try again to upgrade RUU by PC.
I know that upgrading/degrading by bootloader is the more safety way to do it.

SD-Card Writer just orderd
But I don´t know if it will work. Since the Bootloader says GSM Error, I think there will be no other posibility to restore it.
Let´s wait for some days, hope and we will see.....

Is it possible to Flash radio upgrade with the SD method?

Hi!
Question... After flashing my mda (t-mobile, ger) to 3.19.x I decided to upgrade the radio stack. Afte that, the phone refused to boot the system, windows starts without task bar.
Is there a way to flash the radio part via SD?
Can somebody mail me a .nb1 rom to flash via SD? a developers edition 1.2 would be more than great...
Thanx for the help.

I had the same problem with flashing to Radio 4.21
This repair.zip mentioned in that topic worked for me. Just replace the RSU-cab-file with the new one and insert the sd-card into the xda. Then it will autostart the update. Please be pationed. It seems to stuck at 80% or so. Dont do anything, even when you think nothing happens. It will be fixed.

Failed Radio Stack Upgrade

Ok, well, I guess I can blow even the simplest things. I tried to run the radio stack upgrade to 6.24 (from 6.18 ), but it hung at 10% and locked up my device. I had no choice but to reset, and you can imagine the result. I know about the SD method to recover blown OS roms, can the same be done for radio stack errors? What do I need to load onto an SD? Thanks in advance.
Heh, Ok, I figured the lack of response meant "go check the archives", which I did, but I'm still stuck at a certain point here.
I can put the default 3.14 T-Mobile ROM on my device and get it to boot, and then I can swap out the RSUpgrade files with the new T-mobile 6.24 versions. However, I still get stuck with the 1% error. No matter which version of the RSU I try to use (the default one on the 3.14 ROM that tries to load itself, both versions in the repair.zip file, 4.21, and 4.26) I get the 1% error.
I've tried using the 4.00.10 rom and the 4.00.21 rom, but I can't get past the boot screen - I can't get into the OS like I can with the 3.14. Is there some kind of trick to getting these to load?
Some novel observations I've made that I haven't seen listed elsewhere, so I'll jot them down here:
1. Though the battery will not charge, the device will stay powered with the charging cable. You can unplug it for about 5-10 seconds before the unit will die. If you're fast, that's enough to get an SD card in and out, but I've found that if you push up on the charging cable you can make enough room to slip the SD (or in my case, the slimmer MMC) card in and out while charging. So don't worry about the battery running down too much, you can stay powered.
2. When the radio stack upgrade process starts, the icon for the phone status in the blue bar disappears. Then, when the 1% appears, the icon reappears. Then, the flash fails. I think the failure is occuring due to some inability to sucessfully determine the phone status. Maybe there are settings in the bootloader I need to tinker with to get the flash to work? I am on Wallaby 5.15 (at least I read about doing OS ROM updates before I started )
Thanks all for any suggestions.
Try turning off your Radio from the bootloader with the OS that boots.
To get to this option while in bootloader mode press the calendar button then turn off the radio. It may take as long as an hour or two before the
radio will boot/turn.
Confirming that you did copy the needed upgrade files to your Windows folder and then ran the upgrade from there?
HTH
Yes, the GSM is turned off. In fact, I think that may be why the RSU won't work - it can't sense the radio, and thus can't flash it. Of course, I keep getting an error when I try to turn it back on ("GSM turn ON fail !!").
I do have the files for the 4.24 loaded in right now on the O2 3.17 ROM (that one boots for me as well). They are the ones I got from you (Qman).
Just FYI, at first I was having trouble getting the files to copy over the old ones: they were protected in ROM. But, I loaded the Resco File Explorer via cab installation, and that program lets me write over them. Just another tip for those playing along at home
Heh, Ok, latest update.
I've got T-mobile rom 4.00.21 loaded and booting, and I've got the 4.24 radio stack upgrade loaded in. My GSM is off. I am still getting the 1% error. I am just going to keep trying the update. Any suggestions at this point would be welcome. Thanks.

I Encounter this error already before when I am trying to update my QTEK from Radio Stack 4.21 to 6.24, I got a 1 % Error can not update Radio Stack. But now my QTEK is working perfectly fine. first thing I have done is to connect my Qtek in Cradle and access the files( even if it show on the screen "Radio Stack Upgrade Failed" ignore this thing and keep accessing the files). I copied all the files I need using the ActiveSync Explorer, I removed the RsUpgrade.lnk on the startup folder in windows to prevent the unit on keep updating whenever I reset my unit. Next I copied the Radio Stack Upgrade 6.24 files to the \windows directory then I reset my unit again, then I go to windows directory and run the RSUpgrade.exe then it start running, and I reach 100 %, but still my GSM is not working, it is always off, then I decided to hard reset my unit and upgrade it with 4.21, and it continue to load untill 100 % then I soft reset and it works, amazing.. Now my GSM is working fine. Hope this will help you.
I'm starting to see a pattern here, it appears that most and if not all of you
are trying to upgrade from radio stack 4.21! Is that correct, if so why?
Radio stack 4.21 is the latest radio stack for your area/region and is pretty much equal to our 6.24 / A.20.10 here in the US.
Hell radio stack 4.21 might even be newer hence the failure!
So stop all of this nonsense and keep 4.21.
Just out of curiosity what band was your radio set to before you started the upgrade?

I've tried loading the 4.21 radio stack back in, but again, I'm getting the 1% error. I'm going to try and load up the 4.00.05 rom (which is what I was using before I tried to upgrade). I used adaptrom to load that, and that must've upgraded the radio stack on me (I had no intention to upgrade the radio stack from the original, but I guess it was automatic or something).
Is the version of 4.00.05 in the ROM kitchen the unadulterated version (providing I uncheck the "Add programs" box), or is it still stripped? I'm not sure if I can find the original 4.00.05 rom that I used: does anyone know where I can d/l it from again? Thanks.

Confirming that with ROM 4.00.05 you're doing a SD card install or a .exe install from your PC? Also how were you doing the re-install of radio stack 4.21? PC install or did you copy the files over to the Windows folder and run the upgrade from for the device?
As far as the kitchen goes I believe if you leave off/uncheck Add Software and modify ROM you'll get an unadulterated ROM.
Yes, when I went to 4.00.05 the first time, I used the .exe method with a rom package I got from Yorch's website. I guess it automatically updated my radio stack when I installed it, since it went to 4.21 and I didn't run a separate update that I know of. Before that, I was running the latest official T-mobile ROM (3.14).
Since that initial OS upgrade, I have been using the SD method to swap ROMs around. (Again, I'm still on Wallaby 5.15.)
For the 4.21 upgrade, I've been doing the PC install. The version of the 4.21 RSU I downloaded was in a cab, so I just that the installer take care of it for me. For the 6.24 I got from you, I copied the files directly to the \windows directory.
Ah, poop. I was poking around in the forums some more and found the bootloader info page. I think I may have screwed my unit up worse than I thought.
In the process of trying to get my radio to turn off/on, I hit pretty much every option under the GSM menu, including GSM reset. Do you think that might have killed it?

Ok check and see if you have a RSUpgrade link in your Startup folder, if so remove it. Now do a search/find for the below 4.21 upgrade files and if by chance they're not in your Windows folder move them there and run RSUpgrade.
RSUpgrade.exe
RSUpgrade.cp64
monitor_ul_bs.map
monitor_ul_bs.m0
Ok, thanks for the tips. I think I've done that, but I will do it again tonight (at work now, and don't have the device with me).
Also, just FYI, I am in the US with T-mobile service. If I try to upgrade to the AT&T A.20.10 version, my phone won't work on Tmobile anymore, correct? Or will it?

Ok, well, despite my best efforts and all of the advice I've been given, I am still unable to get past the 1% error. For some reason, my unit will just not flash, regardless of RSU or OS I am using. It might be because of messing with the settings in the bootloader, so beware of that if you are or will be in a similar situation
I would like to thank everyone for their help.
Looks like I get to "dance" with tech support at T-mobile. Wish me luck

I've got the same problem as you have had. I've got non working radio stack on my PDA and flashing stops at 1% (ver 4.21). Where can I find RSU ver 6.24? Please send it to me on my mail [email protected] or give me any link. Thanks in advance.
Go over to yorch.net: under "Upgrades", he has the latest O2, AT&T, and T-mobile radio stack updates. You will want T-mobile if you want the 6.24 stack. Good luck.

N00b Needs help please! RSU upgrade issues...

Hello All!
I just got an XDA that has the oldest version of all three components. I was browsing the rom cooker last night and also found a RSU for 4.21 that i thought i could install (activesync install exe)... Oh boy what a mistake!
So now, after the "programme B" update that was in dutch was completed, i got a continuous pop-up in dutch that came up and stayed on every boot. I managed to remove the items from startup and i dont have that problem any more, but my radio does not work at all, and i cannot connect to active-sync to go back or try another RSU!!! It just seems that the usb on the device is messed up, as the PC tries to connect when i cradle it.
I believe my problem is that i did not use programme A first? i only discovered that program after screwing up the wallaby...
I am on my way to buy an SD card now to aid in the disaster recovery. In the meantime, if anyone would be so kind as to reply with a suggestion for fixing it, and how to properly update the components, i would Greatly appreciate it!
Thanks in advance, and i love the forum! Look foward to spending lots of time here
OK, so i found the GSM error thread and followed the instructions, but when trying to upgrade the RSU, i get the error: "Upgrade Failed! hit ok to reset device"
Any suggestions?

How have you fixed it?
Maybe we can update the instructions....
Stefan
I followed the instructions here: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Wallaby_HT_GSMError
The only difference is that i did not copy to the startup folder and ran the update manually from the windows directory. Allowing the upgrade to run on startup always caused a problem like you described

Try updating to WM6 with this package:

jesus, use this: http://rapidshare.com/files/2987211...y_WM6_v2.0.0.4_incl_HSPL___Radio1.41.0.11.exe
created a self-extracting archive so that you only need windows to do the upgrade(no 7zip or winrar), it should extract to a temporary folder and execute the updater, it will flash the hardspl, radio 1.41.0.11, and lsvw's 2.0.0.4.

Like it says, it's a total upgrade package which will also upgrade the radio, using harspl, so CID shouldn't be a problem...
Just connect to ActiveSync (preferably as a guest) and start the .exe you've just downloaded. It'll push SSPL by Des (modified bootloader) to the phone, execute it and start updating.
Let me know if this worked...
Did the upgrade and still not working ......
?
Time for a warranty repair!
Your symptoms stongly suggest a hardware fault with the Qualcomm radio chip.
Updating to the WM6 ROM's doesn't update the Radio, so you could try flashing just a Radio ROM (though by your 1st post you've already tried that?)
The instructions for LSVW and Mun-rus both state that the radio should be updated prior to applying the WM6 ROM itself.

But did the whole upgrade process finish all well...? Is radio 1.41 installed now?
It's a bummer you still have problems, but just exclaming it's not working doesn't really help... Can you be a bit more specific please???
What went well, and what didn't, and what is the exact problem that has risen or didn't get solved? Did you get any specific error-messages? Are you in a good-coverage area? Etc,etc...

Ah- missed the significance of that one! Thanks
Problem is that this topic is split in 2 forums, so some info not consistent- his answers in the other thread stongly suggest hardware failure.
Hello,
thank you for answering
i did try all the updates in this forum , SAME PROBLEM !
when i press the green button nothing happins , when i go to Phone nothing happiens , when i go to phone settings , also nothing happiens
it used to work before , but it used to disconnect every hour or two , then it stopped working
is the device coverd by warranty in the U.S ? i bought it from eBay less than three months ago
I've no idea if it is likely to be covered- was it a new device, fully boxed?
If so, there should be an international warranty card inside, but I don't know HTC's policy on coverage in USA.
HTC's USA Home Page doesn't mention this model at all.
