I'm about to hard reset my wizard before which I'm backing up everything.
I deleted all my emails by clearing the accounts. I cleared everything except for my SMSes. When I went back to the Windows\Messaging Folder, I found that all the emails that I had ever downloaded were still there.
How do I get rid of all the emails and keep only the SMS's prior to a backup?
Can somebody please tell me if the SMS's are located in Windows\Messaging? or is it located elsewhere and hence is it safe to delete everything in the Windows\Messaging folder if i don't want any emails?

I restored my SMS messages and it corrupted or seems to have corrupted my other Activesync and Imap service mail. How can I delete these services mail without have to hard reset the unit? tia
Yea this happens if you upgrade your ROM and then try to use software like PocketUpdate to restore Inbox, Settings.. etc.
Im afraid all I have been able to do is hard reset, but just thinking about it, what if you restore everything, then backup again, hard reset then restore yet again?
If each ROM upgrade uses slightly different settings for the inbox then when you restore from a previous (or later) version the settings conflict. This might be overcome if you restore/backup/hardrest/restore it might just work.
Im aware that its just a theory im playing with right now but it cant hurt to try if all else fails!! As the wife says, "you never know until you try"
Hope this helps slightly

Sprite Software have a tool on their website called "CleanMail" that will totally wipe any existing email structures and after soft-reset they will be rebuilt. That should sort you out.

Hi,
I made a backup via ActiveSync. Later, when i restored my device, after the restoring process, the ActiveSync have reported an error, said that some of the files could not be restored since they where in use by another process or program (something like that), and the files which where listed were regarding to messaging application.
Now, everything work fine (as far as i could noticed) but when i enter the Messaging application (Text messages), i have a lot of messages which does not have an icon, and which i cannot see on click nor delete/move. In the Windows\Messaging folder, when i delete all files, the messages are still visible in the Messaging program, and again, i cannot do anything with them.
Could be some other folder i could delete to delete this messages too?
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Igor
So, before my first attempt with flashing a custom ROM I made a backup with MyBackup, and like any noob included everything, all apk-s, all data, contacts and everything.
Flashed and rebooted succesfully, restored backup and then something went wrong. Everything was restored except my contacts, but also everything worked somehow buggy, with "com.google.process.gapps has stopped working" all the time and the worst part:
Restore contacts failed: unknown error
Unable to convert BLOB to string

Some contact were synced in one of the attempts, but most of them were deleted from my phone and ALSO FROM ONLINE GOOGLE CONTACTS, followed with some annoying warnings about deleted contacts. Like I didn't noticed... so, for the biggest part it was my own fault. Should have left the contacts to sync from the "cloud" - or is there another way? Also, I emailed RerWare if they could help me with that. They responded within few hours (very nice!) and here is a part from their answer:
We have a minor bug which affects a small amount of users. People who made a contacts backup from Android 1 device and restoring it on an Android 2 device. (contacts only)...
This issue has been fixed and will be out in the next release. If you can not wait until then, you can send us the .ZIP backup file, and I will alter it so you will be able to restore your contacts. But, if you do it this way, your contacts photos\icons will not be restored. If you want to wait for the fix, this will restore everything including photo\icons.

But in the meantime I restored it myself the hard way. There is a way to only view the contacts using MyBackup, which leaves HTML dump on SD card under "\rerware\MyBackup\tempHtml" . Copy&Paste into Excel, edit the numbers and what you have to do (little help from Google), save as csv file and import back into contacts. It will merge with existing ones so everything is fine again
Hope this helps someone
Just as a little point (not read you whole topic not got time)
never use mybackup to backup contacts especially if they are also synced with google.
Hey there,
My SMS program is lagging a lot due to having too many messages, is there anyway i can transfer them to my pc?
Ive tried searching but i cant seem to find what im looking for!
Thanks!!
Take a look at Jeyo Mobile Extender. Integrates perfectly with Outlook 2007. When registering your name, make sure its the same as the 'ME' in the HD2 contacts list.
or use microsoft myphone and archive the messages. They will be removed from your phone on next sync, but will be kept online. not sure if you can UNARCHIVE messages though if you want them back on the phone .....
If you just want to STORE them on the pc and not READ them there, then use PIM Manager to do a complete backup on your storage card. Remove the backup from the card, and move it to your PC. Then delete all your SMSes from your phone.... If you want to reinstall ALL SMSes at a future date, do a backup, put the old, stored backup back on your storage card, restore the OLD backup, then restore the NEW backup, making sure that on the second restore you untick the boxes telling it to delete messages
EDIT:
Just checked MyPhone FAQs, and yes, the archived material CAN be restored to the phone.
gonna try it now!
thanks for the response!!
I am giving away my phone to a friend, but how do I "clean" the phone?
Like, I want to erase/uinstall all the apps I've downloaded and installed, empty my messages, folders and camera files... Make it look like "new"..
Can I save my sms/text messages + contacts and their details on my PC or something? Or can I perhaps put them on my sim-card as I won't be giving away the sim-card?
I will be using another android phone, of course.
There are various programs on the market that perform sms backups/restores. I use SMS backup+ to backup my sms every few hours automatically to my gmail account under a label entitled "SMS." I think there is an option to restore SMS in that app too.
As for contacts, they should be backed up with your google account (email). Log into your google account on a computer and under contacts will be various groups. I've created a group specifically with phone numbers to appear under my contacts on android (Contacts [push menu]> display>click google account.and check the contact group you want on the phone).
By default, google will back up your contacts. Under settings, push accounts and sync, and manage your google account. There, the Sync contacts should be enabled and all of your contacts will sync to the google account (where you can edit the groups I've outlined above).
I would connect the phone to a computer, create a folder, and copy all of the contents of your SD card into that folder just in case. When you're ready to pass on the phone, wipe the sd card (on the computer or on the phone by settings>storage>erase sd card).
Reboot into recovery and wipe data, cache, etc. There might be a factory reset option as well. If you aren't rooted, I'm not sure, but there might be a key sequence that does the wipes for you. Try a google search for that.

market - smsbackup - works great here, puts all your sms on your sdcard. then email them to yourself.
then
settings - factory reset (wipes everything you ever did off the phone)
if you make a TiTanium Backup of the device first, you can just move everything from the sdcard to your new phone, or let google take care of the settings (online backup). either way, it's pretty painless.
what are you getting next ?
should take
If you're rooted you can data wipe from within CWM and format your sd card and also for backing up you can use mybackup very handy application. It'll backup your apps, sms, call logs, contacts and your media(camera pictures, videos)
Menu -> Settings -> Privacy -> Factory Data Reset
