Hey there,
My SMS program is lagging a lot due to having too many messages, is there anyway i can transfer them to my pc?
Ive tried searching but i cant seem to find what im looking for!
Thanks!!
Take a look at Jeyo Mobile Extender. Integrates perfectly with Outlook 2007. When registering your name, make sure its the same as the 'ME' in the HD2 contacts list.
or use microsoft myphone and archive the messages. They will be removed from your phone on next sync, but will be kept online. not sure if you can UNARCHIVE messages though if you want them back on the phone .....
If you just want to STORE them on the pc and not READ them there, then use PIM Manager to do a complete backup on your storage card. Remove the backup from the card, and move it to your PC. Then delete all your SMSes from your phone.... If you want to reinstall ALL SMSes at a future date, do a backup, put the old, stored backup back on your storage card, restore the OLD backup, then restore the NEW backup, making sure that on the second restore you untick the boxes telling it to delete messages
EDIT:
Just checked MyPhone FAQs, and yes, the archived material CAN be restored to the phone.
gonna try it now!
thanks for the response!!

Whn I use Activsync I can back up Outlook calendar, contacts etc.
But, can I back up my text msgs in my inbox on the phone?
If so, how do I do that?
many thanks
nicojo
i did not try that yet. . .
but you can use Jeyo Mobile Companion. .
its not free but i thinks its worth the fee , PIM Backup also backup SMS via ppc itself.
awesome and free software would be PIM,
you can store the file(s) on your device and copy it to your pc afterwards!
Thx open_source
Do u have a link to a specific app?
I tried AllExport v3.1 which says:
"With this program, you can backup, restore and export all your messages (SMS, MMS, E-mail, etc.) which are stored in Messaging application."
I installed it but couldn't see how to back up SMS, only contacts list
Anyone tried this program?
thx

first link when using the built in search for "PIM"
didn't try allexport.
This may have been asked I have search but had no luck
I have two questions the first is where are contacts stored on htc and can they be transferred back to Phone if copied to PC
and second I had backed up my phone using sprite but when I wanted to to a restore I found that My Pc has 6.2.3.2324 and the phone has 6.2.3.19 so the phone wont run the file I have tried installing the exe I got on cd to both but they are different and it wont work
Anyone have any ideas I have about 300 contacts, they were not synced to outlook so all I have is a backup and copies of my phones Storage card and device folders on my PC which I had copied
pim.vol
dont know where exactly the file is because i havent used wm in over an year.
and please learn how to search http://www.google.co.in/search?rlz=...hrome&ie=UTF-8&q=contacts+file+windows+mobile
pim.vol is in the root folder but it is hard to retrieve contacts from that file. If you don't use outlook for backup, atleast you could have had PIM Backup on your pocketpc.
IMO, Sprite backup sucks, SPB is the best, check out my guide on Backing up your pocketpc
Regards,
Carty..
Thanks to both of you for your help I did a search on google without any luck maybe I didnt ask the right question
And I do usually use outlook to backup but something went wrong with my sync with outlook which is why I lost all my contacts in the first place
Sprite may not be as good as others however I contacted there help on there website any they were excellant very responsive and helpful (incase anyone wants to know)
Anyway thanks again for your help
just replace the backup copy of pim.vol with the pim.vol that is currently there (you will require total commander or resco file explorer to do this) soft reset and you'll get back all your PIM (Contacts, Calender etc) data back.
Hi,
I'm looking for a solution for backing up my HD2.
What I need is to be able to fully backup and then restore the current snapshot of files, applications, registry, pim data, etc. So I'd like to have the same data on my PDA after restore like it was at the time of the backup. For each and every bit
I know there is SPB Backup and Sprite and other stuff. I'm just not sure, they backup and restore ALL data there is on my machine. Is there sth like an image creator for WM like there is Norton Ghost and True Image for Windows PC?
Thx,
Bruce
I use Sprite Backup which has from the main screen 5 options.
1. Backup ~ which performs a one step backup of your device including the files you mention.
2. Restore ~ which restores your device to a known configuration.
3. Custom Backup ~ which allows you to break the backup down from areas:-
Pocket PC
PIM (inc sub sections)
Mail (inc sub sections)
My Documents (inc sub sections)
System Data (inc sub sections)
Storage Card (inc sub sections - basically the entire card)
4. Schedule ~ which performs a scheduled backup.
5. Options ~ Modifies Backup & Restore settings.
Just backup to your storage card and when the time comes to restore simply load the backup file.... no need to first re-install Sprite.

Well, I have tried SpritaBackup for ROM Upgrade and tried all avaliable methods.
None of them restored the Contacts and the Calendar data.
Other Overwritten the MultyLanguage support files which caused the MUI to act in unexpected ways.
I dont really know if there is any reliable backup software out there . . .

I have not tried it from a ROM upgrade but from a normal Hard reset I can restore all my data with Sprite.
It would rather be a pointless piece of software if it did not restore your contacts and calendar don't you think.

It probably is . . .
Thankfully I had it sync'ed with outlook, so I didnt lose anything,
but - I was VERY disappointed.
After ROM upgrade you don't want full restore. That would overwrite possibly new registry entries and files, undoing partially ROM upgrade.
You only want to restore all what you have installed and changed. AFAIK there is no way to do that.

On my list PIM.vol was set with a grayed out X
and the bottom line is - it just did not restore that data with whatever method I selected.
(It did restore the files in "My Documents" - at least the ones I looked for,
hopefully there are no files that were skipped or that I would find sometime in the future that files had disappeared)

My Pim.vol is not greyed out.
I can tick/untick it if I wish.
Only Sprite V 6.5.5.6 supports WM6.5 so make sure you have that version. Sprites ROM Update routines have always been a little flakey, but a simple backup/restore from Hard Reset ought to work fine unless you finish up restoring the software fault that led to the need for reset.
Spb Backup does exactly the same things, but has a better ROM upgrade routine. Again, you must have the latest version to support Wm 6.5
Reference using Sprite Backup on ROM Upgrades:-
One of the items mentioned is.....
Upgrade Mode Recovery - Restore to a replacement device or after a ROM Upgrade

I have heared that SPB backup has problems with backing up and restoring SMS and mail accounts (the content is fine, but the account is added but does not show and cannot be accessed).
And from my own experience with the SPB backup -
It had problems saving the sync ID of ActiveSync - meaning each time I restored a backup the ActiveSync (On the the desktop computer) said that the device is already Sync'ed with another computer, although Im sync'ing with a single computer, and the definitions on the mobile device shows the computer name assigned to that single computer.
So I had to sync as-if Im sync'ing with a second computer, and then - delete the "old" computer - and this causes mail sync problems, since you can only sync mail with a single computer.
I know SPB Backup restored my HD2 perfectly. have done this many times when testing betas. It also have a ROM upgrade feature but I normally prefer to install afresh after upgrades except for PIM data which SPB BU allows me to restore on its own.
I am not sure about syncing SMS and email accounts with PC since I only use the PC to install programs. All my emails are accounted for each time I do a restore to the same ROM. I had issues with Sprite, that was why I switched to SPB BU from my Omnia-HD-Omnia II and now HD2, all with no issues.
I have now had the whole summer my sms-database messed up. I can read my messages only in threaded view, but I can't i any way back them up with pim-backup or smsImport. PimBackup sees only 149 messages in the inbox, and 73 in the outbox. PimBackup complains that
the messages file in \Application Data\Volatie\msg_20100902.csm can't be added to the backup file, an internal error (2) occured.

SmsImport exports only messages after 23.6.2010. I have about 1000 sms-messages in my device, and i can read all of them from the phone, but i would like to get them backed up before doing a clean install of the x2 (it's getting slow as all windowses do!!)
Does anyone know how to access these files, and how i could be able to read them/Extract the messages from them..?
Try another backup programs like SPB Backup or Sprite Backup.

Hi, backing up the files seem to work, it's just that they seem to be corrupted in some way.. I would like to get out all my sms:s, and reset the phone.
SPB Backup has a tool for PC to open archives. You can extract needed items. Or if there are errors while backing up, then it seems your databases are corrupted. Try to use MyPhone service - it backups your PIM to online storage. So later after reset you may restore your SMS.

I use SMS Control Center and is very happy with it!

Hello there,
I have a HTC touch HD that I recently formatted and installed WM6.5 ROM on, specifically this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=671277
Anyway, all my contacts and messages were, of course, deleted, because I didn't know how to manually back them up using Sashimi or whatever.
I backed them up on a site called Bloove.com using my device before I formatted it, and I can view both the contacts and all the messages on Bloove.com from the PC, but I cannot restore them to the HTC for free, and I don't have any online payment method (visa).
The contacts aren't a lot, and I don't mind entering them manually on the PC and then syncing them to the phone; however, how do I go about doing that? What application should I use on the PC to add the contacts and then copy them to the HTC device? I have Windows Mobile Device Center which, I believe, can sync contacts between PC and HTC but I don't know how to go about using it.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Can't you use WMDC?come on it's not hard, I never use it because I didn't need but it's user-friendly
You can take help of gmail
You can add your contacts on the contacts of your gmail account, then export it in Outlook .csv format (comma separated value)
In mobile you can download PIMBackup a freeware searching on google,
run the program and first backup your contacts using that program on your sd card, unchecking the binary backup
u will get .pib file, open with 7-zip another freeware compression management then extract contact.csc
rename the exported gmail t this extension ie, .csc, then zip it and change extension to .pib
put in memory card
run PIMBackup this time select restore, browse to that file and the contacts will be added..
Actually i have done the reverse process to sync with my gmail account so this process must work..
