Hi,
Hopefully someone here can help.
I've just replaced my Jam's housing, as it's just been painted (2 coats, with lacquer). Everything went fairly well, and upon reassembling, everything's fine...except 2 things:-
1. Reception is now really bad! My phone has now been back on an hour, and I've only had O2 reception for about 2 mins of that, it's constantly showing "no service".
2. The backup battery power is at 0%, and I get an error about it everytime I soft-reset.
Of course, the reception is the main thing, someone please help.
Thanks,
Mark
Check the contacts on the behind, top part of your magician.
Remember that piece of plastic with a sheet of metal? check those contacts.
I had the same problem when i dissassembled my magician, that part was not contacting correctly, now that ive fixed it, its at 100% again.
Whitemoo.
Thanks, I checked the contacts (after fiddling around a bit) and the reception is now sorted.
BUT...
Something strange is going on with the SIM card. My own SIM, which was working before (just with no reception!), now comes up with "Invalid or Missing SIM". But, my SIM works absolutely fine in 2 other Nokia phones.
AND...
The SIMs from the 2 other Nokia phones (both O2 as well, like mine), work fine in my Jam.
Any ideas?
ill just get the sim replaced.
its el cheapo anyways, i can get a voda sim for 1$ AUD here, shouldnt be much more elsewhere in the world.
Whitemoo.

I've had a Universal for about a year and a half (maybe two) now and have become really, really reliant on it. I used to complain a lot about its sluggishness, low voice call quality and huge size, but now that it's got a problem I can't live without it!! "Normal" cellphones are a huge downgrade!!
I dropped my Universal without its case some weeks ago, and the battery cover, battery and sim card all flew away in the hard floor. When putting everything together again, it feels a bit loose, and the red thingy that holds the battery in place is not nearly as stable now. But what happens now is that, at random intervals, I get an "Invalid or no simcard" message and cannot use the phone features. If I turn the radio off then on, it sometimes works again but sometimes doesn't. I've used it as a phone for a day working perfectly and then I begin to get the message again. I sometimes get it right after turning on the device.
I tried stiffening the device with a miniscrewdriver but I cannot get to the screws that are loosened. I also tried other things believing the problem was the physical contact of the Simcard with the reader. Unfortunately the problem continues.
I live in Mexico but will be travelling to America June 21 through 29. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix it? I'd also be willing to pay for a repair assuming I can send the device by FedEx from Mexico now, and get it back to my hotel late June when I go to America. Does anyone know a repairshop which might do that? Thanks a lot!
I've been experiencing the intermittent "No GSM" problem, and I'm pretty sure it's the mainboard (it started after I dropped the phone). Already opened the phone a few times / reflashed Radio etc...
Does somebody know where can I find a board for a HTC TyTN (Hermes 200) on the internet?
Thanks for the help!
i would be interested in this too
Maybe you could consider buying one with a cracked screen or so from eBay, just in case you can't figure out where to get a complete mainboard from...

I've considered that, but than I have the risk of having a bad motherboard as well. I'd prefer to get a new one as a replacement part. I did that in the past with the D-PAD controller and had success with it. Can't find a motherboard anywhere thou... Any ideas? Help!!
Motherboard
Hey there.. I too want a new motherboard.. I dropped my 8525 and the speaker, left side of the keypad and SD card slot stopped functioning. I took off the cover and reconnected the speaker..even lifted the MB off..But still with the same problem except that the speaker works and that the Unit gets very hot near the SD slot...I surfed and surfed without any finds of a MB..
So any ways broke out the Wizard for awhile , dug deep down and just bought a Kaiser ( the real one from HTC ).....
So any else have any clue at all on how to get a Hermes MB?...

i'm iterested too
I am in a different position. I NOW HATE THESE UNITS LIKE POISON
I have three 8225s which I am getting really sick of constantly reflashing and finding out that something doesnt work, whatever it is.
Sometimes it is the whole screen going white eight times our of ten boots, sometimes NO GSM, sometimes it flashes properly and runs properly, starts up with all GSM numbers showing correctly and then goes into its configuration cycle only to end up with NO GSM on reboot or some kind of freeze.
I want to know where I can get rid of these things: I am in New York. Is the only place to try them on ebay? Might involve a considerable (not worthwhile) learning curve?
Has anyone had any luck contacting other flashers on craigslist? Or is there a place on this forum where I can get rid of them for a reasonable price?
I also have a few Wizards (as well as a working Wizard G4 main board) and a Blue Angel which has NEVER worked properly in the 4 years since I Have had it. However with persistence and playing around while doing other things (like watching TV), I DO have it finally working properly on all functions and have given it to my offspring. The sheer amount of playing around with it to get it working properly has convinced me that it definitely wont be worthwhile trying to get the Hermes' to work!
Oh and I forgot to mention.....

In addition to all this, I use most regulatly a Wing. A few years ago I broke the screen and HTC sent me a new chassis for whatever reason. When I switched screens, the unit with the slightly broken screeen worked, it just had a chip like break at the top corner. I could still use it. Recently I put the battery back in and hey presto! it now doesnt work at all
So what happened to the working one? The battery pins on it stopped 'pinging' today, which I take to mean that the connections no longer work. The unit suddenly stopped working on putting the battery back in it.
So who needs a few Wing chassis as well??

Heading should be whole load of units, mostly working, to get shot of.
Hi,
I recently had a Magician shipped which seemed fine the first day of use, but at the end of the day, the gsm radio icon showed me a no reception, or 'service unavailable' message...
Now, after upgrading the Rom's (several used) and Radio update to the latest one (1.13 as far as I can see), I don't have any reception or 'service' at all...
The gsm radio always shows the '!' marker...
Anyone any idea where to look?
Loose cable, loose or bad antenna, software/rom issue?
Any ideas are welcome!
This device will be my test-unit for xanadux, but I want to make sure it's functional before testing stuff and debugging things that will never work because of a hardware or firmware issue...
Thanks guys!
Great work, super forum!
this is clearly a hardare malfunction. your device may not be identifying the sim card.
thanks for the quick response, but I don't think it's the SIM-slot that is causing me troubles... The SIM card can be read without any problem, and the pin code is asked and aknowledged by the phone. Once in a while I get coverage, but it always looks like 1 bar maximum, while my Trinity is lying next to it, same operator, and all 5bars of coverage notification are there, so it's not that I'm in a dead zone or black spot where there's no cell coverage at all.
I checked the upper back part (after removing the plastic casing top) and checked where the antenna is connected. Once, while holding and pushing onto the metal part that looks like the antenna extension, I got (just for 5 seconds that is) a connection, and signal level of 1-2 bars, but that dropped and stopped after a few seconds already...
I think it's a connection issue of some kind, internal antenna or the connection to it, but I'm not that keen on taking the unit apart to find out it's not that easy to sort the issue out...
Any help, info, ... can help...
Thanks!
the metal plate just below the top-backside plastic panel acts like the antenna. On top side of it there are two legs which connect to the mainboard.try cleaning the two spots on mainboard and the contacts of antenna.
well, i can say this because i solved this problem once this way.
good luck.
Well, I tried what you mentioned: scratched and cleaned the squares on the pcb, straightened the connecting metal parts from the back plate, cleaned all contacts: no solution...
Any other ideas?
Possibly a sort of switch which makes the device choose between internal or external antenna? What external antenna might fit?
Thanks guys!
Well,
I got my hands on a 'broken' I-mate Jam (got stuck between the car door, screen is totally broken, pcb is fine) and replaced the antenna block: FULL RECEPTION...
at least, for half an hour.. after that: reception dropped, and again left me with the "!" mentioning "no service"
I tried switching the pcb's but for some odd reason, the screen didn't come up good... The backlight didn't turn on and the screen was all striped and smeared...
Is there a difference in pcb versions, connectors, screens?
I thought Magcian = Magician, but now I'm thinking there are different models around there...
Bon... so I'm looking for a pcb of a Qtek S100 now... to switch that one with mine, and see if that helps...
really strange the reception was 'perfect' for about an hour, I even succeeded in making calls with it! No jitter, no drops, perfect reception, and then: BONK, over with it... nothing left...
Any ideas on this one, or any ideas on how to get the I-mate's pcb working in my Qtek?
Thanks guys for the info and help!
my phone broken so i replaced lcd.
Now when I put sim in, it says SIM CARD IS MISSING or it takes forever and is stuck on searching for signal.
Any ideas?
IDEA!!!!
Broken Sim!
anybody?
Can't be a broken sim. Works fine in two other older phones I have. It's what i've been usning. I miss my MDA.
you can disassembly it again
and see if the sin socked pins are solded??? i dont have more ideas... just because of the falling and broken screen
They are. If I shake the phone, sometimes it works. But then I get the searching for signal endless loop..
Well it seems that its screwed up...
but maybe the socket is fine maybe... the anthena is unsolded or the green label for anthena has a little trash or something... but defineltly is hardware issue because the falling problem.
Okay, i tinkered with the phone this morning for the first time in over a week.
My findings:
The back cover where the camera / antenna when the phone fell I guess the clips broke off. It is no longer seated securely on the top (I can wobble it and remove it very easily)
When this moves the phone loses signal.
ok so what happened was is that i dropped my phone although when i looked at it it seemed fine, not even a scratch, calling worked...but a couple of hours later i got no signal in this place although my dad had signal and we're on the same network and we have the same phone too. I received signal as soon as I left the place.
And here is where my problem comes, everything was working fine and i had my phone in my pocket for the whole day cause i was at school and after school i decided to take a look at the time, but my phone was off and wouldn't turn on, but i expected that it ran out of battery.
I got home and tried charging it, but nothing happened, so i decided to use my dad's battery (fully charged) it still wouldn't turn on, i've tried soft/hard resets still nothing.
can it be the hardware? what is broken? it won't turn on/won't charge/no led lights/no red led when charging without battery/ nothing so what is wrong please help.
Probably battery contacts... If you can see a crack, you might be able to resolder them and fix however the Hermes uses a multi layered board and if the break is there then you need a new mainboard, in a few words, your Hermes is toast....
is there any possible fix? if the board is broken, where can i get a replacement and instruction on how to fix? thanks :]
Find an old Hermes on ebay. If the screen doesn't work or something, DON'T get one with "No GSM", then you should be able to replace the Mainboard.
Find the HTC Service Manual here - http://michael-channon.spaces.live.com/PersonalSpace.aspx?_c02_owner=1
You need a size 6 torque key and a small flatbladed screwdriver to get the Mainboard. Pretty easy, I've taken my Hermes apart more times than I can count.
Cheers...
thanks for the help so far :]
but is there a site that just sells the part? cause i really don't want to end up buying a mainboard on ebay that ends up not working too.
