I have a 8525, and I've been trying to get it to work with SOTI's Pocket Controller. It seems that a .cab in what I thought was the Extended ROM changes the connection settings which makes my NDIS IP not equal to 169.254.2.1, like SOTI expects.
Long story short, if I hard reset, and then soft reset before the extended ROM's .cab files run, I don't have the IP address issue... now, here's where it gets weird (for me, a bit of a noob, anyway).
So I try each .cab in the /Extended_Rom one at a time, so I can track down the culprit, and guess what... it's NOT one of those .cabs!
It appears that there is a another /Extended_Rom that is AutoRun BEFORE the /Extended_Rom that I can find with Total Commander!
Here is a few of the things I see it doing (it goes by too fast), but have no idea how, or from where, these are NOT in /Extended_Rom:
Installing MP_MMS3.2_CWS_Hermes_060828.cab
Installing CM_Mapping...
Loading PP_Other_Hermes...
Loading PP_Other_reg.xml
Loading Cingular.tsk
So my question is two fold, what is this pre/Extended_Rom, and where is it? How can I run them, selectively after I've bypassed them with a soft reset, after a hard one?
Could it be the Radio ROM, if so, does anyone have it extracted, or where can I get at it?
HELP!
Okay so I found the SOTI issue here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1015290&highlight=SOTI#post1015290
Looks like there's a new control panel applet under connections for USB to PC... I didn't know what was there.
So whatever is in that pre ROM is turning "advanced network functionality" off...
...I'd still like to know where those guys are!?!?
and now I've found the PreAutoRun issue too:

Hi folks
As anyone at all managed to get ozVGA or something like working on the M5000. Ive tried but cant access the screen at all after the reset and then end up having to do a hard reset and start again from scratch. It wont even let me access the files via the USB cable.
Any help very much appreciated as I've reconfigured the entire device to try OzVGa and even SEVGA (doesnt work at all) to no avail.
Or is there settings I just save before rebooting. Please tell me how you did it.
Thanks in advance
Same problem
Hi guys,
I've got exactly the same problem. I wonder if it's to do with the Orange customisation....
It locks up if you use a password to first access the device, immediately when you press the first digit on the keypad. If you remove the password from your device, then it launches the window in proper VGA mode, but again, locks up, needing a hard reset.
I dont care about having true VGA for this device all the time, just for my web browser will do....
Alwyn
Same just would like a real size on web browsing (WTF why didnt they fix that.. doh)
I dont have password on.. (as still am testing but it just locks up completely until a hard reset.
Read this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32217
Did... read. copied.. machine died.. did it work for you?
exactly what i did:- and didnt work
1. Soft reset your Universal first to clear any locks
2. Unzip the entire archive onto your PC into a single directory
3. Copy ALL of the files into your PocketPC's Windows directory
4. Run the SdkCerts.cab included in the files.
5. Create a shortcut to the ozVGA.exe file within your Windows Directory and place into Start Menu
6. Startup ozVGA and click the lower lefthand button
7. Your device will restart in your new resolution!
I think that I had similiar problems until I did a soft reset after step 4, before starting ozVGA the first time. Now it's working for me (MDA-Pro, latest Jasjar ROM).
I'm nopt really sure it the soft reset was the solution, but anyway it's worth a try.
Wolfgang
Woot!! worked. reset inbetween worked... thanks
works first time on my m5000, and i am still learning this machine can do so much!! saving for a bigger SD card and ill be on my way
What is ozVGA??
can someone tell me?
OZVGA is anyone still using this?
Before I stuff up my machine again I'd like to know if it's worth it. Or if not, are there any bettet alternatives, I only really need a proper screen for IE.
I tried OzVGA and had the same problem and had to do a hard reset, at which point I found the thread here recommending a different program (attached) which worked perfectly for me. If you want to go back, just uninstall it. If you keep the cab file, you can switch back and forth as needed. It even lists in the readme the exact changes it does, which made me feel better.
VGA seems worth it to me - so much more can be fit on the screen, and I couldn't switch back now. Internet Explorer also looks great in VGA, along with everything else. No more needing to scroll all the time in things is very nice, at least for me.
I haven't found a way to get Internet Explorer to run properly in QVGA like it does in VGA mode (it insists on doubling the images). However, if it's just for the internet you want, you could try Opera which handles VGA better, and will give you the Internet Explorer in VGA mode experience in QVGA mode without needing to switch.
Hope this helps, just wanted to add my (limited) experience and recommendation for the application in the linked post
Apologies if this has been posted before but cant find it in the search...
1) On soft reset, I loose sms messages, even if I have closed "Text Messages" with any of the 3rd party "close" button programs.
2) On soft reset, I lose BT338 GPS connectivity, have to remove the device and port then re add - have read on here that you need to uncheck secure connection, I've tried it with both checked, and unchecked and still fails
3) On soft reset, whatever background image I have dissapears, but a portion is left behind in the drop down window.
4) Im with Orange, which of the cabs in the Extended ROM can I delete and still be able to use the phone.
5) When using Sprite Backup It does not back up either calendar or contacts, even though I have Personal Databases checked (or if it does, it doesnt restore them)
I dont want a load of Orange bloatware using up the memory, just enough for phone, gprs connection and WiFi to work.
Getting quite used to doing hard resets now, had issue over the weekend with one app causing Picture viewer to lock up!
Many thanks from a grateful Newbie!

Once you have flashed your phone and done the reset afterwards, letting the customisations install they are no longer of any use to you until you do a hard reset, at which point the ROM will reload and the customisations with it.
If you use backup software after you delete the entire contents of your ExtendedROM you won't lose a thing.
Have you got the right version of Sprite? I think the latest is 5.1?
If you have no luck with it, give SPB a try. I've used it on my Alpine and Uni with great success.
Have you tried flashing with the latest ROM for the other problems? I'm on the latest Orange ROM and so far things seem to be working fine with SMS, desktop and BT pairing.
Thanks,
Sprite is 5.1.0 Build 1417 - downloaded last friday
ROM version seem to be same as yours, 1.30.90WWE 02/24/06 so I guess thats most upto date Orange ROM (had device just under 3 weeks)
Grr @ self for not reading sig !
Another thing to try is the Qtek ROMs? Assuming you're unlocked of course.
Good Luck with it =)
Im not brave enough to unlock it
I absolutley adore the beast, and its spot on for what i need, just wish I could resolve the minor issues that whilst not spoil the use of it, nevertheless are annoying. BT338 gets hot fix in seconds, but takes me 5 mins to un pair then reapir the blasted BT connection
Going back to the extended ROM, what I meant was do I need all the cab files that are in there to use the phone, as in can I remove some, then Hard reset and have a smaller number actually load up.
I dont use the Orange today screen for one, and given that there is only 25Mb of usable program memory out of 50, I'm wondering how much of that is caused by TSR orange code that can be removed at build
EDIT: had a look at http://forum.xda-developers.com/vie...0&postorder=asc&highlight=reg+tweaks&start=25 but still non the wiser (someone listed the Orange FR cabs)
There is an easy way to do this that doesn't require unlocking the ExtROM, which you have to do to be able to delete anything in there.
When you hard reset, tap the screen, sync the touchscreen, cut and paste, then Windows loads up.
Right after that it will give you 3 seconds before loading the contents of the ExtROM. If you hit the reset pin during that three seconds it won't load anything in there.
You can then browse to it with a decent file manager and install the .CABs by hand.
But, don't be afraid of unlocking, it takes one program and two registry edits. Gives you 10MB of space to play with too.
Ah, my fault, read som much about unlocking that I thought you meant the sim card.
Yip, I've run the ExtRom unlocker and found out how to look inside
Not really that bothered about storage on the device, more about having a nice trim OS so that i have more program space as the kernel is smaller
Thanks again
Hi guys, I have a small problem, I have a Xda exe, and bought Route 66's Navigator 7 to run on my unit, problem is this when I try to install the cab file (which is sucessful) it fires up: Error one or more required files cannot be found. please reinstall the application. (close window). I have searched the net and this form for answers/solutions but can't seem to find any. When I was on other sites abt wm5 and set up problems I noticed that there is certain things you cannot get access to on the wm5/O2 software. ie, Like tring to set up a blue tooth connection, what you get with o2 is their attempt of a coms software rather than keeping it simple like windows based interface that everyone else has.
Is there anyway you can stop the o2 customisation cab running after a hard reset, as I think o2 are deleteing files that are required to run route 66. Also is there a way to have just wm5 installed the way you would get windows xp out of the box the way microsoft designed it without o2, or T-mobile mucking it up? :!: :?
Oh and by the way Microsoft as released the Beta of ActiveSync 4.2, which cleared up a lot of my connection problems if anyones interested in the link for it come back to me..
I believe that if you hard reset, go through the touchscreen set up and copy/paste tutorial, when it comes to the 'Tap the screen to finish setup' (ie - when all the guff is installed) if you then soft reset it stops the CAB file from installing and you're left with WM5 as Bill Gate$ intended it (Should point out that i've never tried it though, so it may be completely wrong!) Hope this helps
Oink1....Thanks for the reply on that, I will try that next time round and let you know. cheers
Here goes.
I bought a Magician a few months back. Hated the lack of space but liked the Bluetooth functionality. I could connect wirelessly around the house no problem. Sending/receiving files to/from anyone with a Bluetooth device.
Decided to proceed with BigStorage ROM Flash. Flash succesful. Enjoyed adequate space. Hated Bluetooth. I tried to get some help in this forum but the help extended wasn't exactly too successful. I was missing the [`Bluetooth] option in ActiveSync [a registry key I believe], and I couldn't send/receive files. I decided to give up on it until I had enough time to retrieve the registry key by reflashing with shipped ROM and flashing back to BigStorage.
I found the time to do it last week. Flashed and reflashed several times [every single attempt was successful], checking and rechecking for the Bluetooth registry keys. Yet I couldn't find them.
My Magician can still detect Bluetooth devices so I'm sure the hardware isn't busted. But I can't even transfer files using Bluetooth. Tried installing that Bluetooth Stack from http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33532. Added some new features, but functionality is as stated in this paragraph.
Help? ::crycry:: hahahaha
I am now totally clueless as to how to go about this predicament..
EDIT
I've recently did the BigStorage ROM on my Magician. And everything was just peachy. Up until I tried to sync my Magician to the PC via Bluetooth.
Before I did the ROM patch, I was able to sync my unit through Bluetooth after some few hours of tweaking my system. But after I did the patch, I tried to sync it again through Bluetooth. My PC was waiting for the Magician but the unit kept disconnecting itself.
I ran Activesync on the Magician, went to its settings, and the Bluetooth option was gone. Only `USB was left along with some numbers (baud rates?), when previously it had `Bluetooth as well.
I'm sure Bluetooth works (as I've installed the CAB associated with it from the ExtRom) on the unit since it can make a device pairing and ask for a passkey and all that, but syncing through Bluetooth doesn't work anymore.
Could anyone shed some light on this for me?

try pairing your device to the pc! make sure that ur pc is not listed on the magician paired devices, activate the pairing from the magician through bluetooth under settings system tab through "Bluetooth ActiveSync Setup" and go from there.
let me know how you go!
errr.. ok i tried what you suggested. and i'm starting to wonder..
now my device can't see and can't be seen. i can't make a pair anymore even from the pc. my unit says 'no new devices found' yet my pc is discoverable.
broken bluetooth radio maybe (but it was working before the patch...)? or could it be a cab file i missed?
Hi i'm only new myself but you could try a soft reset then retry pairing your device, or a hard reset and see if the bluetooth works then? or maybe even try the cab file on
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33532
I have found that worst case senario a hard reset and look for the right bluetooth cab to install from the ext rom.
run a search on this site for ext rom and look for the post with details about each of the seperate files and what they do!
*Edit* i did a quick search and i wasnt able to find anything in the ext rom that applies to bluetooth setup or settings! so i guess a hard reset maybe the best way to find out whether is software or hardware?!!
Maybe one of the more experienced guys on this site might be able to help you further.
Hope this helps a little
thanks for your time boh113. i can still sync through the USB port so i guess bluetooth will have to wait. i just use it for wireless internet around the house when i'm not at the pc anyway.
i might try the hard reset when i have more time to tinker with the magician. but in any case, i'd like to thank you for trying to help
just an update in case somebody can help
i managed to pair my device with the pc already. but i still can't connect via bluetooth in the magician's async.
ok i found something in my registry pertaining to my problem. although i'm not sure how to fix it.
in the magician's async, under tools -> options -> PC -> options, there's a drop-down list for PC synchronization options:
`115200 Default
`19200 Default
`38400 Default
`57600 Default
`USB
there was a `Bluetooth option included at the end of the list before i did the bigstorage ROM.
going back to the registry, i found the keys to this list (although i'm not entirely sure if these are correct, but these are the only ones on my list)
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\`115200 Default
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\`19200 Default
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\`38400 Default
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\`57600 Default
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\`USB
and to what i can see, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\`Bluetooth doesn't exist. there are a whole lot of hex values under these keys and i'm not sure what they are for.
although if somebody could post/upload the `Bluetooth key from their device, i'd be grateful.
i'm aware that the hex values are also based upon hardware but i'm willing to try it out.
Ok i can find what your talking about but i dont have the ability to copy and paste the registry entry anywhere?!
if you can tell me how to get hold of this for you i'd be happy to help anyway i can!
most registry editors have the capability for exporting specific keys up to whole trees. perhaps if you have resco explorer and the registry add-on. or some other software similar to it. tap-hold and export?
thanks
I have resco explorer and the registry add-on but i cant find anyway to export the registry file?!
There's an option for import but thats it, also there's an option to copy but all it allows you to do is copy and past within the registry itself!
unfortunately i dont have the technical experience to do much ore tha n this, a quick guide as to which program to use and how to do it and i would be more than happy to help!
oh ok. open up resco explorer or the registry add-on. then navigate your way to this folder:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook
there should be a \`Bluetooth\ folder within \RasBook\ what you do is tap-and-hold on that (`Bluetooth) folder until you see the drop down text list. "Export..." should be one of the options then you can specify where to put it. by default resco places it in the main memory
will wait thanks boh113
No worries found it and exported for your satisfaction!
Had to zip it ;D
hope this can help you further!
Goodluck
Much appreciated!!
Will try it out in a bit. I'll post my results after
Thanks boh113!
well, i got back the `Bluetooth option in async. but still doesn't want to connect to the pc. the hex values probably don't match the hardware in my unit. oh well. i'll test it out a couple more hours. and if i still don't get it to work, a hard reset might be my only solution. or re-flash with my original rom and start all over again. hahahaha
thanks for your help and time boh113. forgive me for having taken too much of it
No worries, sorry i couldnt have been of more help!
Good luck with it all!
*bump*
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this anomoly. Sometimes my unit seems to run extremely slow...like several processes are running in the background and hogging all the resources. I make sure that all "Running Programs" are closed and it is not during a "checking email" cycle, my internet history and cookies are cleared too. Sometimes I can click on something and wait up to 20 seconds before the "wheel" stops rotating and it completes the requested task. When this happens, it is 2-3 times slower than my HTC Touch.
Then, there are other times when everything seems to be running fine. Everything is quick and responsive with no noticable delays.
Background: My unit is the European X7500 version with WinMo 6 installed by the "selling store". The only additional programs I have installed are AvantGo, Google Maps, SPB GRPS Monitor, Skype, Sprite Backup and Vito Audio Notes. All were "clean installs" with no error messages and if memory serves correctly, I was noticing symptoms of these issues prior to installing most of these programs. I currently have 81.60 MB storage memory available and 76.90 MB program memory available.
ROM Version: 2.21.405.2
ROM Date: 07/20/07
Radio Version: 1.50.00.00
Protocol Version: 32.83.7020.20H
ExtROM Version: 2.21.405.101
It seems that there is something at work here but I can't seem to put my finger on what is causing it. Is it possible the the installation of WinMo 6 has something to do with this problem?
Although I am a long-time Windows PDA user, I have no experience at upgrading OS's, ROM's or hacking the registry entries (or even reading them for that matter). Any assistance in isolating the cause of this frustrating problem would be greatly appreciated.
Download latest rom!
Hey thats cool, I also have an HTC Advantage and an HTC Touch!
Anyway, I would recommend that you download and install the latest WM6 rom from the HTC e-club site, then install all your programs on the Micro drive. You can also try defragmenting the drive using Pocket Mechanic or similar utillity!
Good luck!
Thanks for the tip branko but from what I understand, I already have the most up-to-date version of WM6 (listed in OP). Also, I do not have a lot of programs installed (6) and half of these are installed on the MD. Defrag doesn't make sense as it is only a couple of months old with very little added and nothing removed.
That's why I am leaning towards something that may not have gone completely "tickety boo" during the installation of WM6. I am just trying to figure out if anyone else has experienced this problem after upgrading before I try a complete re-install of the OS. I was hoping that there is some way to be able to look for whatever is causing this slowdown. Kind of like using Task Manager in XP to see what processes, if any, are running in the background.
GPRS monitor has been known to cause slowness. Try Hard reset and not install GPRS monitor and see if that helps. When I got my X7500, it had GPRS monitor on the CD and I installed it and I had the same issues. Uninstalling the GPRS did not help, I had to Hard reset and then load my apps and not load the GPRS monitor.
I know is sucks to hard reset and have to reload your apps, but since you only have a few, it is worth a try.
Good luck
Thanks eagle 1. That's exactly the kind of info I was looking for. Too bad if that is the problem because I kind of like the GPRS Monitor. And the funny thing is, I am also running GPRS Monitor on my HTC Touch without problems and 1/3 the processor speed.
I just checked the versions and my Advantage has 2.4.5 build 923 (from original CD) and my Touch has 2.5.1 build 225 (download purchase). So, I wonder if the older version has issues with WM6 and the newer version has fixed those issues.
Well, there is only one way to find out for sure. I will try a hard reset tomorrow when I get some time (too tired tonight) and report back. If I find that this has corrected the issue, I may try loading the newer version and see what happens.
Thanks again.

eagle1,
You've just posted the tip of the day! I've always noticed that my taskbar icon took a long time to change from 3G to H, but never occurred to me that the GPRS monitor was the culprit. After uninstalling it,I already noticed a marked reduction in time taken to change from 3G to H, and my web browsing speed has improved! I'm going to try a hard reset when I got some free time later and see if it improves even further.
Just a question before I "pull the pin" and do a hard reset. I noticed that in the Remove Programs listing it shows Microsoft Office Mobile. A hard reset will not uninstall this, will it?
Also, under the Programs directory, Adobe Reader LE and Windows Live will also survive a hard reset, correct?
Thanks.
anything is the remove programs folder will get deleted but dont worry everything you need including Office is just a link away. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364366
Ok, I just noticed that MS Office Mobile is actually on one of the CD's that came with the unit. I wondered why it was showing up in the Remove Programs folder. I received my device with WM6 already installed from the dealer so I didn't realize that it's not pre-installed in WM6.
Also, another question regarding the hard reset. I synchronize with Outlook on my laptop and my contact database has about 1,600 contacts. After a hard reset, would it be better to delete my existing ActiveSync partnership and create a new one. Or, would connecting to my existing partnership after a hard reset cause any problems.
I am assuming that because my current partnership was originally set up to sync both ways, that once connected after a hard reset, it will realize there are no contacts on the device and automatically transfer them over from my laptop. Is there anything I am missing.
And one last thought based on eagle 1's tip regarding GPRS Monitor not playing nice, has anyone else come across any other programs that cause problems and I should stay away from? That includes the Sprite Backup Tool included on the disc.
Is there a problem with sprite backup? I don't notice any yet.
Sorry, I should have clarified. I don't know if there is a problem with Sprite. I am just asking if anyone else has found it causes any trouble.
My reasons for asking are that I have just done a hard reset and so far I have not loaded any programs. Once I sync my Outlook contacts back, I will think about re-installing individual programs. But this time, I will do it one-by-one.

Oh yes, you should reinstall all your program one by one. If not, you'll simply bring back whatever that caused the slow down.
