my upgrade is due and was just wondering how much you guys paid for your ameo upgrade on t mobile.i did read on here that somebody got theres ameo for free.thanks in advance
nothing is free
first question is how long u want to b tied to tmobile for (ie do u want to b able to upgrade in 12 mths)?
and do u want web n walk, or web n walk plus/max etc? some websites selling ameo dont specify what web n walk youre geting.
cant really make comparisons until u know what u want. then crank all the diff offers into excel to figure out what youre really paying over life of contract.
thanks for the reply im on flex 35 going to stay on that price plan no web n walk.thanks
yes, im interested too - my contract is up for renewal now, and i was quoted £240 for the phone on flext35.
this is considering that i have another flext35 with them, ie 2 contracts. i am not happy about it, cant justify spending that much cash.

if you are new customer, you can get flex 35 +web & walk plus for £42.5 a month (18 month contract), but the Ameo will only cost you £119.99.

That sounds better than the deal I've just got with them - 129.99 for the phone on the same tariff, 18 mth for 52.50 per month. Boo! Oh well, it's cheaper than I was expecting, just need to sell my Hermes now!
I've been discussing an upgrade with them over the last few days,
am on the 18 mth early 3g adopters at the mo (12 months 1/2 price) and wanted to swap to the flext 25 with web and walk.
Was originally quoted nearly £400 for the upgrade, when I started laughing and suggested I leave they started bargaining.
It would still be technically cheaper for me to leave and sign up as new than take the offered upgrade, which seems well, completely ridiculous..
So I'm continuing with my efforts, as so far I've found their customer service to be the best of the providers and would rather stick with them..

so if i say ' birmingham' they wont believe me, or will they?
sorry for being so weird, i just really want this phone, and being a student dont have an awful lot of cash!

sure you can say that, but you will need to be very lucky to get that price if you order by phone, because they have change their main database already, why not pay a visit to the local store? you can get it straight away
Let us know how it goes and wish you luck

man don't go around and mention this pricing mistake loud to T-mobile, the often you do it, then sooner they will change the price back, then people here won't be able to get the deal. All you need to do is ask them how much is the Ameo for Flex 35 , web & walk plus, if they tell you is £120, then this is the deal you want.
Why would you not want to use web&walk? it release the full power of Ameo.
So, fairly pissed off now, and this makes no sense, but to promote Windows Mobile, Microsoft currently has a deal with T-Mobile to sell the G1 at $139 (I don't know if MS knows what they're doing...).
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/tmobile1/default.mspx
Click get the best deal, then "click here for discounts", then "Products", "Handhelds & PDAs", enter in a 3G zip code, and scroll down to G1. Apparently if you order over the phone, you can get just a 12 month contract as well.

Dammit... What the heck is Microsoft doing anyways? Selling an/the Android phone?
I'm fairly sure Microsoft just told T-Mobile "We'll give a discount on PDA phones we send to your site", and since all their PDA phones used to run WM it was fine. I'm sure Microsoft will fix it soon; order it while you can.

damn im mad.. i could of saved like crazy
I wounder if that deal applies to people like me who already had a t-mobile plan (still love my dash) and had to pay $350 for the G1?
1 year contract?
After applying the phone to a family plan, I only see a set contract length of 2 years. Reading the descriptions for each category of plans, it says all plans require a 2 year contract...
am I missing something?
go through the whole process
This requires a 2 year contract. The only perk is the activation fee and the price. Walmart had the same deal a while back.

What a nasty way to rip us off with their pre-orders? I don´t get what Microsoft has to do with this.
Maybe they're doing it with the belief that Android is an inferior OS and that this low price will entice enough people to buy it, then their combined bad experience will reach the critical mass required to delay the implementation of Android and the consequent dilution of their market share.

T-Mobile wouldn't let them intentionally do this. I say again, this is likely nothing more than an error on Microsofts end.

T-Mobile will just sell phones at the price Microsoft says, because Microsoft will refund them for the discounts. And I'm sure MS is paying full MSRP on the phones, aka if T-Mobile were to sell a new phone with new contract they'd only be making $179, where as if they sell the phone for Microsoft they are making the full $399. Consumer pays less, but T-Mobile gets more.

T-mo is supposedly no longer doing 1 year contracts through this or similar discounted plans. If you contact them they won't honor the 1 year contract that is stated on the Microsoft site. According to the 2 or 3 T-mo reps I spoke with, there was a big hub-bub about this a few months ago and they decided to no longer offer them as part of these discounted plans. Take it for what it's worth.
As to the device being cheaper through Microsoft, it's not an offer exclusive to them. T-mo offers corporate/organizational discounts to many groups. Check with your employer or search around the net for groups you're eligible for (they're not too difficult to find). They often include a discount on monthly fees in addition to the hardware discount.

Yep. I got mine for $139 in store (in stock) with no activation fee. Plus 12% off per month. I just told them my employer up front (well .. I asked for the discount, since I knew we got one).
I was surprised that they never asked for any type of proof.
This is for new LINE ONLY, meaning you will lose your existing phone number and no you cant get a new line and then port your old number to the new line and cancel the old one. There is no porting within the same carrier required by law and they wont do it for you, I tried.
I used this last year to get my WING for $50 with actually no rebate back then. While everyone was stuck with 2 year contract, I got it for 1 year contract and that is why I was eligible for the G1 at $179.
Great deal and thank Microsoft!
tried to go through the process, and it looks like you have to get their data plan if you try to do it online...
btw, how do i know if my employer qualifies for discount?
Can anyone show me where can i buy G1 without contract i mean pay as you go
i'm now living in uk anybody buy G1 there without contract ???

I got mine from a US T-Mobile store WITHOUT adding the data plan, but I DID renew my contract. I got it for ~$180 (or what ever the price is)
This is how you do it:
My wife was with me, so I said it was a present for my sister-in-law and my wife said "yeah, it a birthday present for my sister". You gotta play it pretty good to get them to do it. I told him, she just wants to see how it is before she adds the data plan.
The only thing the rep said was "ohh, can you add the data plan in a week so we get credit for the sale?"
SO- if you want a G1 without the dataplan, you have to be a talker and be able to convince them to give it to you. Just say its a present and they just want to try it before they get the plan. What are they going to say?
Not only that, after I got home, I called T-Mobile, said I was going to the UK and they gave me the unlock code.
Bottomline- If you want something be confident and have a gameplan.
Hope this helps.
thanx for all of your supports . Any other idea ??
Can i buy it at carphonewarehouse
ebay si your best bet, that way you make sure you get a rev that can be rooted (us ver and uk ver)
you can also check the craigslist ads for ur city
but hunting through ebay is safer

Well it says "a few weeks"
iPhone next week, N1 2/3 weeks later? Possible.
A "few" will be more like 6 - 7 - 8... Knowing how operators think
actually - considering the guy in the Voda shop told me the nokia n900 is out in Jan for Voda - wonder how that will all pan out.
moto Milestone still has to hit an operator too - surely all the 'super' phones won't come out in jan/feb?
Most ppl don't spend in Jan after the xmas and the jan sales added up ...
---
Makes you think what will be coming out in Nov 2010 - they must be amaaazing!

Vodafone aren't really a ripoff, they're possibly the best uk network in terms of connectivity aswell. Although sometimes their deals aren't as good as other networks.
You might be happy with paying £400+ but I know some people (myself included) would be considering it but won't really be able to afford it so getting it presumably for free on a £35 a month contract would be awesome.

Does anyone know how much it would cost though? im assuming we wouldnt be able to buy the phone on its own, and definitely wouldnt be available simfree in the uk if voda is the exclusive carrier, so is it worth it just buying it from google now and then using whichever network we got?
im sure the phone would probably cost more than £400 payg anyway if it was available? im trying to decide whether to buy it now or wait till it comes here? im on vodafone so i dont mind waiting, but i dont think i would be able to get a good deal so a little help/speculation would be cool. thanks
Vodafone aren't selling the device, Google are and are providing Vodafone airtime, so expect the phone out in weeks.
Whether the price plans will be worth it is another matter.

hmm, good point. Im not sure what to do. i suppose il try and restrain myself and wait and see what happens when it comes out here. its always better to wait for the reviews and decide then if its worth it after the initial issues are ironed out. But my heros battery life is ridiculously poor so will see how long i can hold out.

Q. Will you be selling in Vodafone stores or via Vodafone.co.uk?
A. The Google offer is a new way to purchase a mobile phone so will only be available online through Google’s web store (www.google.com/phone).

Expansys have a pre-order page up for the Nexus - so it should definitely come sim free and unlocked when it hits europe in the next few months...
The early press I saw says 450 Euros...
Incidentally the HTC HD2 on there has just been lowered to £425 according to a banner ad that just whizzed by.
Milestone at 399 - so Expansys has countered by lowering prices...
Both cheaper than you'd find on Ebay ironically ...

Hi guys,
I've just arrived in the US from Europe to go to school here for a number of years. I need to get a new phone and a US plan. Of course I want an Android, and my options are limited to T-Mobile and AT&T since I'll be wanting to use the phone back in Europe during summers so I need a GSM handset. I have a few questions for you guys though.
1. To what extent are the Captivate\Vibrant locked? I want to use a European SIM card in Europe. Is this possible? I'm willing to root the phone \ flash a custom rom if necessary. (I might well do this anyway).
2. For the NJ\NYC(I'll be going to Rutgers) what would you recommend? T-Mobile or AT&T? (I don't like the ATT data cap though).
3. I'm open for other Android options, but on GSM in the US the Galaxy S clones seem to be the best bet. Otherwise I'm quite the fan of HTC.
1. Most Carriers will unlock the phone for you. I know T-mobile will do it after 45 days as a customer.
2. Go with T-mobile, cheaper plans, unlimited data, faster web, better customer service. At&t is a horrid company and is only popular because of the iPhone.
3. I think the Vibrant/Galaxy S is better than the Capative. Doesn't have the At&t bloatware (which is worse than T-mobile bloatware) and will let you install non market apps.

Thank you for your quick response! Is there a charge involved in unlocking your phone?
Also, where would be the best place to order the phone? T-Mobile.com? Googling for a bit I found it 100$ cheaper at some site called wirefly.com, but perhaps it'd be better to go for the source. The local T-Mobile store did not have any stock, and wouldn't have for some two weeks. I hope their internet store has! As a Rutgers student I get 6% off the plan (not much, but at least something) and I'm not sure how to go about getting that discount online. On the other hand, I need the phone ASAP...

T-mobile doesn't charge to unlock the phone. Just call them and tell them you want to unlock the phone. They submit the request and usually you have the unlock code in a day or two.
If you are going to purchase the phone through wirefly make sure you read all the stipulations they have. Usually they have a contract above and beyond T-mobiles. Basically say you sign up on a plan and decide to change that plan wirefly might charge you for changing it. While you save money up front it can cost you more in the long run. Check out Amazon.com as well they have good deals.
I've been chatting with T-mobile custumer support, and I should have figured... I can't get a phone b/c I lack a US SSN and credit history. I could go for a flexpay plan and pay the full price for the phone. Not likely I'm doing that!
I'll be getting a SSN at some point in the autumn, and I guess I'll have to get started on some sort of credit history. Annoying as hell.
In the meantime, I'll either need to get a flexpay plan for my current HTC Magic B (I hate it, it just doesn't have enough RAM to do ANYTHING on it!) or I'll need to get some cheap pre/paid package. Sigh.
On the upside, I guess, the phones will have SSAMOLED and quad-cores by the time T-Mobile will allow me to buy a phone from them.
Why don't you put Cyanogen on your current phone? It's no magic solution, but it'll at least make your experience more enjoyable.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
+1 for Cyanogen on a Magic B. I had CM5 for a long time and CM6 for about a week before I got my Vibrant, and it was pretty damn snappy. Nothing on the Vibrant, of course, but certainly made it MUCH better. I still love that phone, though the screen looks tiny and just awful in comparison nowadays, lol.
