Hi. I've just started to experience some problems regarding my Qtek S100. It cannot read my SD cards.
I get this message: "Do you want to try to format the storage card to make it readable? This will permanently delete any files on the card".
If I click yes, is says that the card has been formattet ok, but I still can't see it in File Explorer.
I've tried using 512 mb card, 1 gb card and a 2 gb card - same result.
Any ideas? Is there any obvious solutions to this?

I had the same problem with my MDA Compact. There are a couple of things you can try. First off, some units had a shoddy sd slot, so try wedging a bit of cardboard in there with yout sd card (at the front), it helps with connection. Also, my pda decided to format the sd card poorly, and partitioned it for me, then wouldn't use it. It took me ten months to solve that problem, but I eventually figured it out; download HP USB Format utility (i'd supply the URL, but can't find the exact one I used - this should at least point you in the right direction), and that'll automatically format the SD to its full capacity.

I have a 512 SD memory card, which when initially placed into my MDA compact was working fine. I have transferred files via activesync and the MDA was reading it at 512mb.
However, a couple of weeks ago. I had a message on the MDA asking if I would like to format the card for reading by this device. Initially I said no, however, it kept on coming up persistently until I clicked yes.
The format was done and I am now showing a size on my SD card of 139mb.
I have seen some of the previous posts and have bought a SD reader/writer, whilst this works perfectly, my card is still only 139mb. I have a feeling that the movie I transferred is taking up the rest of the memory, but not showing anywhere for me to remove it.
Does anyone have any suggestions, other than gentle pursasion with a hammer, to return the card to its proper size. Free would be best of course.
Thanks
In windows (your desktop computer) enable the option "view-hidden files"... perhaps you will find a lot of hidden files on your sd.
Otherwise, format the sd.
Sven,
Thanks for your response, tried hidden files, no luck. Also formatted the sd card and it still only reads 139mb. Shall I hit it with a hammer?
Cheers

adz1478,
Unzip the attachment onto your computer...
With your SD card in a card reader, format the card.
You should hopefully retreive full capacity- needless to say everything saved on the card will be gone.
worked perfectly, you just saved me £20 on a new card. Cheers

Yep- no probs.
When you try to format the card from Windows- it does not always comply with the SD 1.1 specs. This is what the formatter program does.
Same problem - but!
When I tried the formatter program it thinks the card is write protected even though on the outside it is not! So i can't format it to the correct side.
Any ideas please?
I have a 2gb SD card that was working, but I thought I would be clever and use the SD reader in my Tosh so that I could transfer large files more easily to the card for my exec. But when I was asked to format my card by Toshiba's software, I went through the process and thought it was successful. But then at end of process the phrase "Please stop a SD memory card, then insert the card again" came up, so took card out, re-entered it in the reader and tried to attempt to transfer files to it. However windows then told me that it was not formatted and would I like to format it. So yes, I do, but although windows formatted it, it reduced the capacity from 2gb to 956 mb or thereabouts. It was recognised by the exec again, but with severe consequences as never bought a 1 gb card.
Help please...
Sounds to me like your card reader doesn't read cards bigger than 1 GB. I had the same issue with my 4 GB card. Tried it with a different reader and the PC saw all 4 gigs, never asking me to format. See if you can try a newer SD card reader?
The same thing happened to me with a 1 gigabyte pcmcia card. It was working fine in my laptop then I put it in the card slot on an Ipaq and it also did a format. The card is now exactly half the memory it should be and no way can I get it to work as a 1 gig card even though I have tried formatting on the pc.
I have found that my 2GB card formatted on my Palm LifeDrive was not readable on my laptop. When I formatted using a Toshiba format utility the space on the card was down to 1GB. It did work okay on my JJ. I had to re-format it on my Palm and then for reason it was okay again and could be read by my laptop - I did not use any card readers as the laptop has a built-in reader. And I re-formatted on my laptop using XP format softwsre and the 2GB storage was retained.
@Wannabe, have you got access to another PC or card reader to reformat your card. Also I found WM5 file managers could not reformat and regain the lost capacity
been on to Tosh
Toshiba are extremely helpful...not! Told me to get another card and see if that works as it might not accept the card. This is a Sandisk card which I believe is made by Toshiba...or at least in collaboration. Am going to check Sandisk for an answer as well...keep the ideas coming please
Hi there.
Try reading this post i made ages ago about formatting and re-newing your sd cards. It might help. It is regarding my 512mb sd card, but the principles are the same.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=21920&highlight=lydiachris
I strongly recommend using media recover, even if it's only a trial version to "wipe" your sd card to re-new it to it's factory condition. It covers and re-formats the whole card sector by sector.

Give it a go and let us know.

If none of the other suggestions work then try this program that I posted on another thread:-
SDFormatter.zip:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=30900&highlight=
Use it with a card reader, follow instructions and your PPC should be able to read the full capacity.
SanDisk have taken back card...
Thanks for the suggestions, will keep in mind for future. Sandisk took back the card and found that it had become corrupted so have sent out another one. tks for suggestions though.
Today I received my 2GB Sandisk miniSD card from eCost (they sell it for real cheap so I thought I get one). I formatted it with XP (using its supplied SD placeholder) to FAT32. After I placed it on the PDA it reported the following crazy results:
2 GB storage
960 MB used
970 MBs free
In other words, my Wizard (running the latest AKU2 QTek ROM from ~March 22 2006) sees the full 2GB, but can only use 1 GB!!!
I then tried to format it with XP using FAT16, but the SAME problem occured.
Thankfully, I downloaded this utility: http://pocketgear.com/software_detail.asp?id=3191 and I did a "repair" (or format) the miniSD via the PocketPC. THIS utility saved the day! It fromatted the miniSD card correctly! And now I can see and use ALL of the card.
Please note that the problem/bug might not be with XP or the PPC. It might be with the actual SD placeholder, or even the flash reader (hardware bugs). The point is, that somewhere along the way something gets screwed during the formatting. So, if you buy a miniSD 2GB and you get such or other problems, download the StorageTools utility linked above to format (or use "repair") the miniSD card directly in the PocketPC instead of using XP and a SD-placeholder/flash-reader.
BTW, I also posted a review of the QTek 9100 yesterday: http://tuxtops.com/node/749
wow! I'm reading your post and thinking I wrote it! I had the EXACT same problem. I tried another utility (that made my miniSD card unrecognizable to my kjam).....a quick format with my pc, and I was back to only about 1gb of usable space....then i stumbled across storage tools. I ran the repair, and it was fixed! ahhhhh 2gb of space....woohoo!
Same problem, diffrent solution...
I also had the same problem, but found another solution, after trying to reformat, both in ppc and pc and cardreader in printer, card was unreadable by all devices. Therefore, as a last resort, I put the card in my digital camera (nikon s2) wich recogniced the card as unformatted and kindly asked if I would like to format it... after that it worked perfectly
help!!
i got the same problem with my 2G sd card..
i formatted with my PC and now it show only 975mb in my card!!!!!!!!!
i had try to use the StorageTools to repair it via my XDA mini s.. but it still show 975MB.... any idea???
After you used StorageTools to repair the miniSD card, you need to do a soft reset for the PocketPC to recognize the rest of the card.
However, I must tell you, the only clear deal is to FORMAT the card WITH StorageTools and NOT to simply just do a repair.
Hey I have this same problem, but the link to the program is no longer any good. Does anyone know what the name of the application was.
Thanks,
Bought new card
OK- Now I do not know what to do. I just went out and bought a new 2GB scan Disk MiniSD card. When I went to install my data on it, I can only get 1GB on the card. I need 2 GB. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this. I thought the last card was bad, but I guess not. This happens on 8125 and in Windows. Both see the card as 2 GB but will error out when you try to add more than 1 GB.
Please help.
Thanks,
The name is that one: storagetools...
I had the same problem and using just the evaluation version of the program was good enough to format mi sd and everything it's ok!

what is a better format for MiniSD 1G (prob:read/writes slow)
I have a problem with my miniSD card reading and writing WAY too slow.
I think that may have happened when I formated the card as FAT32 partition instead of FAT. This thread seems like it is a helpfull answer, but which would read and write better? Does anyone know?
Thanx in advance.
Hello! Although this is my first post on the forums, I have been reading extensively through these forums for the past ferw weeks since my acquisition of my new to me MDA (i.e wizard G3). Yesterday, I took out the sd card for a few hours and now when I put the card back in the wizard is not recognizing the sd card in the file explorer. I put the card in the PC and it is recognized fine there. I reformatted the sd card via FAT and inserted it back into the wizard but no luck. I soft reset the phone several times but in vain. I then eventually hard reset the wizard and THEN inserted the sd card but still not read. I tried going through the My computer--> Manage --> Disk Management but the sd card is not showing up on it.
The sd card is clicking in and out fine from the wizard. Any help would be greatly appreciated. All my medical programs were on the SD card. And with that many programs I cant just work off of the memory.
Thanks in advance

update
I installed the wm5storage and the program does not recognize the sd card either
Update
-Tried formatting to FAT with computer and re inserting did not work
-Tried Formatting with WM5storage and THAT didnt work either
-CID unlocked the phone, installed 3.08 ROM, and then "Crossbow reloaded" with 2,19 UK Radio Rom, tried inserting the sd card and still not work
-Tried formatting with "Flash Format" and the program says "no storage card detected"
I am thinking that I may have damaged the pins or something when I was reinserting the SD card, initially when I noticed the problem
2 options in front of me now!
1. buy another mini SD card and see if that works
2. Open up the Wizard to see if it is a hardware issue
Opinions etc would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Ive got the same problem with my Qtek 9100
hi i had a near identical problem occur with my xda mini, as in after removing and reinserting my sd card it was not being recognized. i happened to have a old mini sd card (only 64mb tho!) and that was recognized. so i just bought another 2gb sd and its been fine ever since, but saying that i have not removed it from my mini yet! which is getting a little annoying now as i was given a copilot kit and the software is on a mini sd card
Try removing all formatting and then allow the phone to format your card. I had a problem with my second MiniSD card after formatting on my PC.
Insert your card into your card reader. Right click "My Computer" and click on "Manage". Then left click "Disk Management", find your card and delete the partition. At this point, you can then stick the card into the phone and it will ask if you would like to format the card. Even though the computer will not recognize the card, your phone will.
Snapin Disabled
I tried the approach of right click my computer--> manage --> disk management --> but it tells me that the snappin is disabled and when I go into start--> run--> gpedit.msc --> to enable the disk management it still does not recognize my storage card in the disk management. Hence I am unable to remove the partition.
Thanks for the replies guys, any suggestions on how to enable the specific snapin on XP?
Thanks

New Mini SD Card
OK, so in attempts to diagnose the problem, I went out today and purchased another 1gb minisd card, inserted it into the wizard and................NOTHING. Still no luck. Does this narrow down to the problem to a hardware pin related issue? Or could this still be a software problem. I figured that a new sd card may resolve the issue but unfortunately not, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Bump
Ideas? Suggestions? Recommendations?
Thanks in advance

If you tried another card and a new ROM, I would say it is a hardware issue, if it's still under warrantee then I would send it in. If it's not and you want to try to fix it yourself, there is the HTC wizard maintenance manual (Google search) that will give you step by step instructions on how to disassemble it. Or sell it on eBay then use the money to buy a new one.
Hi!
Just got my first memory card ever - put it in but can't see or access it, not appearing in storage device.
its an 8gb mini used through an mini s adapter..
please help!!
Hi.
I had simillar problem with my card. Wizard is not like the other phones, it can't read cards which are damaged or not formatted. Obviously, yours is not damaged. Simply just access the card through your PC, format it, insert the card into the wizard (you will see no change at all so far), reset your phone and after windows mobile loads, it will ask you if you want to fomat the card - yes, format it. And there you go, you have yourself a storage device
Hope it works.
P.S.
There's also one other option, your card is too big to be handled by your device.
but it seems to be formatted
Hi. seems its formatted, although I did not format it.
I Put it into (vista) computer and it just worked. When I did a "show properties" on the card it was FAT 32 formatted.
Is there a Max limit to the size of card?
8gig mini or micro?
If it is a 8 gig micro your phone will not read it. Sorry will only ready mini sd's
not micros or mini sdhc.
even...
Hi!
even though I'm using a MicroSD adapter??
thanx
On my wiz, my card is running FatFS , not Fat32. It could make the difference, i am not sure. Since you are in a zero position, you have nothing to lose with one more format, so just format the card in your pc and restart your wizard with the card inserted. If this doesn't help, then greasemuntney is prolly right and you can't use this card.
fatfs
Hi so right
Whats FatFS??
thanx
as mentioned above the wizard does not support SDHC standard and your 8GB happens to be SDHC.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SD_Memory_Card
awwwwwwwwwww c rap
damn... so is there a firmware upgrade? or something that I can do to upgrade the phone to use sdhc??
I got this card as a present so can't swap it?
Nope, you're bagged. Phone cannot read SDHC, no matter what kind of adapters, ROMs or firmware you attempt to employ. Try selling the chip on Craigslist and use the money to buy a bunch of 2GB cards.
SDHC
ok before a final verdict that wizard wouldn't read an sd that is in sdhc format (fat32 reliant) do note that i had the same problem but googled to find two solutions that didn't work alone yet combined did !
first of all you need to change the latency of the card read in registray as follows:
[HKLM\System\StorageManager]
“PNPUnloadDelay“=dword:8196
[HKLM\System\StorageManager]
“PNPWaitIODelay“=dword:8196
Note that the 8196 should be entered as a DECIMAL value. The HEXADECIMAL (HEX) equivalent is 0×00002004.
now attached are two sdhc drivers that require (acording to uploader) to be installed cab file first for registry tweaks and then replace both files installed in windows directory with others included in driver bundle. (through instruction guide in a txt file is included within zip file)
finally reboot , yet as a disclamer do note the following your device will not be backward compatible with regular sds . (not untill you hard reset it so it would restore original dlls and setting)
Interesting. If this works for anyone besides night-mayor, please post your hardware(G3/G4)/IPL/SPL...tracking successes and failures with this method will be valuable to other users.
In fact, you can only use standard SD cards (mini or micro with mini adapter) and the maximum capacity for standard SD protocol is 4GB, but it's difficult to find 4GB Standard SD cards (micor or mini).
Most of manufacturer actually sells HC card for 4GB size, and on web stores, it's often not very precise about HC or none HC.
Good luck...
List of working 4GB Mini SD cards.
If it ain't here, it ain't working, generally speaking (it is not comprehensive). As you can see, they do make 4GB cards that aren't using the HC configuration, but they are rare. One of the replies on the thread I linked to above even mentions an 8GB kit, but it did not work.
