Hello! Although this is my first post on the forums, I have been reading extensively through these forums for the past ferw weeks since my acquisition of my new to me MDA (i.e wizard G3). Yesterday, I took out the sd card for a few hours and now when I put the card back in the wizard is not recognizing the sd card in the file explorer. I put the card in the PC and it is recognized fine there. I reformatted the sd card via FAT and inserted it back into the wizard but no luck. I soft reset the phone several times but in vain. I then eventually hard reset the wizard and THEN inserted the sd card but still not read. I tried going through the My computer--> Manage --> Disk Management but the sd card is not showing up on it.
The sd card is clicking in and out fine from the wizard. Any help would be greatly appreciated. All my medical programs were on the SD card. And with that many programs I cant just work off of the memory.
Thanks in advance

update
I installed the wm5storage and the program does not recognize the sd card either
Update
-Tried formatting to FAT with computer and re inserting did not work
-Tried Formatting with WM5storage and THAT didnt work either
-CID unlocked the phone, installed 3.08 ROM, and then "Crossbow reloaded" with 2,19 UK Radio Rom, tried inserting the sd card and still not work
-Tried formatting with "Flash Format" and the program says "no storage card detected"
I am thinking that I may have damaged the pins or something when I was reinserting the SD card, initially when I noticed the problem
2 options in front of me now!
1. buy another mini SD card and see if that works
2. Open up the Wizard to see if it is a hardware issue
Opinions etc would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Ive got the same problem with my Qtek 9100
hi i had a near identical problem occur with my xda mini, as in after removing and reinserting my sd card it was not being recognized. i happened to have a old mini sd card (only 64mb tho!) and that was recognized. so i just bought another 2gb sd and its been fine ever since, but saying that i have not removed it from my mini yet! which is getting a little annoying now as i was given a copilot kit and the software is on a mini sd card
Try removing all formatting and then allow the phone to format your card. I had a problem with my second MiniSD card after formatting on my PC.
Insert your card into your card reader. Right click "My Computer" and click on "Manage". Then left click "Disk Management", find your card and delete the partition. At this point, you can then stick the card into the phone and it will ask if you would like to format the card. Even though the computer will not recognize the card, your phone will.
Snapin Disabled
I tried the approach of right click my computer--> manage --> disk management --> but it tells me that the snappin is disabled and when I go into start--> run--> gpedit.msc --> to enable the disk management it still does not recognize my storage card in the disk management. Hence I am unable to remove the partition.
Thanks for the replies guys, any suggestions on how to enable the specific snapin on XP?
Thanks

New Mini SD Card
OK, so in attempts to diagnose the problem, I went out today and purchased another 1gb minisd card, inserted it into the wizard and................NOTHING. Still no luck. Does this narrow down to the problem to a hardware pin related issue? Or could this still be a software problem. I figured that a new sd card may resolve the issue but unfortunately not, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Ideas? Suggestions? Recommendations?
Thanks in advance

If you tried another card and a new ROM, I would say it is a hardware issue, if it's still under warrantee then I would send it in. If it's not and you want to try to fix it yourself, there is the HTC wizard maintenance manual (Google search) that will give you step by step instructions on how to disassemble it. Or sell it on eBay then use the money to buy a new one.

Hi all,
I have searched hi and low for the resolution to my problem. I have owned a Magician (sold as Xda II Mini) for just under a year and have a 1Gb SD card (eagletec turbo 66x speed) which has worked beautifully until two days ago
File explorer does not recognise the SD card. I have tried the SD card in other devices (e.g. PC - using a card reader, digital camera, dvd player, my friend's pda etc...) and it works fine.
I have tried inserting different SD cards into the Magician and they all get recognised ok.
I have tried soft reset and hard reset to no avail.
I have formatted the SD card using a card reader on the PC (tried both FAT and FAT32) and also tried formatting it in my digital camera.
When I insert the card into the Magician (from power off state), the Magician does light up indicating to me that there is no problem with the spring load mechanism of the expansion slot. What is strange is that when I go to Settings->System->About, I get 'Expansion Slot: Not in use'
I also tried (after a suggestion in another post) to add a "shim" of plastic of paper on the contact side of the SD card. No use.
I am reluctant to flash the ROM as I have not had any other problems with the Magician to warrant it.
Any ideas?
Have you tried cleaning the contacts of the SD card? Try soft resetting with the SD card in it.
Hi thanks for replying.
Yes I have cleaned the contacts of the SD card and also tried many soft resets with the card in and also with the card out.
????
Hello,
Try formatting your card with a different reader or from a Nikia phone.
Regards
Carty..
I have tried formating the card in several card readers. Still not being recognised is file explorer. Again, the card does work in any other device I put it in - just not my mini
Anyhow, I'll just use a different card for now. Just wondered if any other people had the same issue as I do.
Thanks all.
for me the same **** happened with my new, exchanged, mdac. using the sd card with the previous machine was no problem, now the card is not being recognized at all. using it in notebook, camera ... no problem.
any ideas?
i dont want to start another thread but im having the exact same problem with my MDA Compact II. I have a 1gb Toshiba SD card that wont even work in the MDA but it works fine on my camera and PC. So I would like ot know if there is a solution to this
Thanks
Hi all
I am a newbie and am experiencing the same issue, external sd card not showing up in file explorer.
Sniffer can find it and I can play media files from there. Is this the norm or do I need to change something?
I am using C&C 1.5ghz Froyo Combo VERSION 8 final.
The 16GB card is seen by all other card readers I have tried.
After using my vario 2 for a while the mem card becomes unusable.
It's shows no free space at all. I have a 1 gb memory that came with my t-mob vario 2.
My mp3 ring tone doesn't work anymore. I have to remove and reinsert the memory card or soft reset the device.
Radio 1.20.31.10
Rom: 1.21.114.3
Any idea's what could be the problem?
Thanks
The smilar problem occured with one of my XDA-II (Himaliya), Even though I have hard reseted the device. Finnaly I have backuped the card through the pc and format the card (on PC) and it wasn't working, even though I have tried 3 other cards and they were working absolutely fine with the device. What I did was to leave the card inside the device for overnight and it was recognisable in the morning, then I took out the card from the device to put the data back from the PC and once I have put the card back in the device the card wasn't recognisable again, So finaly I left the card again in the device overnight and it was recognisable again, then I left the card in the device and put the data back through the syncronisation.
I haven't taken out the card since then because I know there is some recognising problem between the device & the card, its working since then.
My Advice is : To check another card and if that would work then try to sell your current card and buy another.
My advice 02: Try to backup your device, leave the card inside the device and HARD Reset the device & once the device will install newly it should configure the card as well.
I have got very usefull software "storagetools" (trial) by which you can scan, format & defrag the card, you can try it.
GoodLuck

Use chkdsk on the PC to check your storage card (instead of any PPC-based software, including Storage Tools). I also recommend the thread at http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=39583 on all these q's.
On a related issue concerning problems with microSD cards and the TyTn, I have a problem which I hope you can help me with:
I have a new TyTn (ROM Ver. 1.18.255.3) with a 512mb miniSD card. In the course of my usual usage, the device hanged and after a few minutes of unresponsiveness, I reset the device using the reset button. When it rebooted, the card is no longer recognized by the phone. I used a card reader and WinXP and Mac OSX cannot also recognize it. If I try to format it (XP), XP says that the card cannot be formatted. I tried using it in my Samsung D820 and it cannot also be formatted. I then concluded that the card was defective and bought a new one (512mb).
After using the new card for a week, my TyTn hanged while accessing a program installed in the card. Again after a few minutes of unresponsiveness, I rebooted the phone using the reboot button. When the device booted-- Bam!!! the card can no longer be recognized by my phone! Windows and Mac OSX cannot mount it. I tried the unrecognized card in my Samsung D820 and it is recognized! I inserted the miniSD card (128mb) originally in my D820 in my TyTn and it is recognized/read by the TyTn. I formatted the defective card in the D820 and copied a few files in it and the D820 can read those files but my TyTn can't! I tried the other 128mb card on my TyTn, formatted it and copied files into it and everything's fine.
How come then that the 512mb card can be read by my Samsung phone and not by the TyTn? My TyTn is certainly not defective because It can access the 128mb card that was originally in my D820. As I stated earlier, I have already formatted the 512mb card in my Samsung phone and have transferred files into it (The Samsung phone can read the files written on it).
I have re-inserted the 512mb card numerous times in my TyTn to no avail. I have also rebooted my TyTn several times and still it cannot recognize/read the 512mb card. I am now using the 128mb card that I originally use in my Samsung D820.
If it can help, I have enabled and unlocked my TyTn's extended ROM. I have a few programs that are installed in my Ext ROM.
Thanks!
Similar card problem
I recently purchased the T Mobile MDA Vario2 with the CoPilot 6 software. worked fine for about a week and then the CoPilot software which was running from the memory card started to hang intermittently. The first couple of times a soft reset cured it. Then after about the third soft reset, the memory card was no longer recognised. Tried reading the card via my pc and that couldn't recognise it either.
Took both the phone and card back to T Mobile where a new card was tried, this was recognised immediately so I now have to take the whole CoPilot package back to be replaced.
I have also just orderd a new 1GB sandisk card from Amazon and am now concerned that this is going to be a repeating issue. I wonder how many other owners have had this problem and if it is actually a fault with the Vario2 or wether I have just been unlucky with a dodgy memory card.
Would appreciate other thoughts on this.
Cheers
Matt
I think that enabling the "Advance network functionality" causes the corruption of memory cards.

Because when I enabled it, the corruption started.

Hmm, yes, I can see where you worked that one out
My mini sd card isn't being seen by my phone. I plug it in and go to file explorer but I can never get to it. It appeared once but disappeared. It's only 512mb too. =(
Bump for the same issue. I'm on Core's 2.0 ROM using 1GB Kingston Micro SD w/a miniSD adapter.
My computer can read the card but the phone can't.

Try reformatting it on the pc - i prefer fat32 but try fat16 if that does not work.
Did you format the card with your computer? I had that problem with my card and had to find a way to remove the formatting that the computer did. I found the answer to my problem on the Cingular website.
Insert your card into your card reader. Right click "My Computer" and click on "Manage". Then left click "Disk Management", find your card and delete the partition. At this point, you can then stick the card into the phone and it will ask if you would like to format the card. Even though the computer will not recognize the card, your phone will.
I don't know the circumstances of what caused the problem, but if you did what I did, then the above helped me salvage a perfectly good (and new) miniSD card.

Similar to what i have done to resurrect some cards when all seems lost.
Goto control panel - administrative tools - computer management - disk management.
Now attach card to pc via card reader or wm5torage and with luck it will appear on the list of drives - now format or do as curious d described.

I stuck it in my phone first then I decided to put files on it. There was a temp folder on it (presumably from the phone, so I'm guessing it read on its first attempt). Then I deleted the temp folder (probably shouldn't have) and put my files on it. After that my phone wouldn't read it any more. The computer could and my old SX66 could as well.
I opened disk management and it won't let me delete the partition. Partition Magic won't either because I'm guessing it doesn't see removable drives. I formatted it again and I'm still out of luck.
Thanks for the tips guys.
I've got a Kingston 2GB microSD in a miniSD adapter. At first, it would not recognize it at all...after many insertions/resets/powering off&on. Took the advice to reformat it to FAT32 on my PC then reinserted it. Still no go. Soft resetted it and bingo, it worked. I then removed it to transfer my files from my 1GB miniSD, reinserted and then it wouldn't see it. Removed, reinserted. Still no go. After soft-reset, it finally worked.
I know that my phone does have an issue with recognizing an inserted miniSD...sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't. Usually by inserting it firmly it would work. But maybe the microSD makes it even more flaky.
In short, I think the FAT32 format and the soft-reset makes it work...presuming you can get your phone to physically recognize it.
I have a 2gb storage card that use to work before I bricked my phone. So, I sent it to Cingular for them to fix it and they did. But now I am trying to install back the files I had on my 2gb storage card and its not showing up on the phone. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.
i would try another sdcard
try the sdcard in a sdcardreader
if both resulted in failure i would say that
they by fixing 1 thing broke another
I think they replaced the motherboard. I dont know if they gave me a defective one.
i am having the same problem...Ive had my storage card for quite a while now and had 1g of memory used up and now all of a sudden none of my music or photos that are on the card are being shown. It still detects my storage card and that the space is used but i cant find the files anywhere.

Removing and re-inserting the card as well as performing a soft reset can make vanished files re-appear. However it depends whether there is corruption on the card.
Does the card work using a card reader on the PC?
If it does and you have tried the above, then I would copy everything from the card to the PC, reformat the card and then put everything back again. If the PC does not see all the files either then you may, if it's worth it, try some software to recover files from the corrupted card. (This os often not 100% successful, but worth a try of there is something vital on there).

I have 3 8525's that are not detecting the 2G memory card when it is inserted. I have to perform a soft-reset in order for the device to recognize it. I now the cards are good because they work in my Axim.
I have 4 2G memory cards doing this which are Kingston & Sandisk. Two of the SanDisk cards are brand new.
Are there any known issues?
I have this problem as well. I'm not sure what the source is.
I cannot even get it to work with a soft reset though.
The card I have is a 1Gb Kingston, and it definitely works because I tested it on my computer.
I guess I'll Just call Cingular when I have a bigger problem at hand.
2gb sandisk card on 8525
I used to have this proem on a brand new card. I would put it in and nothing would happen. But insert in my PC, and it works. What I did was format it to fat32 (from the factory installed FAT) put it in the 8525 and it showed up. Just to test again, tried formatting back to FAT and didn't work again. back to FAT32 and no more probs. Hope it helps for you guys.
If i want to paste a file in my hd 2 memory card a massege sys : The device has either stopped rsponding or has been disconnected, but if i conncet the memory card to my laptop directly it works normaly. Is there any help please?
weird, my digital camera gave me the same exact problem yesterday while trying to create a folder inside the internal sd card.
Try and connect the device in usb disk mode instead of activesync
I tried it on both but it's the same problem, I formated the memory card and I inserted a new sd card and the problem still, any help please?
Hard Reset
I made hard reset but the problem is still, any help please?
I've had this same problem with different MicroSD HC cards (2x16gb, 1x32gb). I posted a question about it a while ago, and the general consensus was that they were probably fake cards (which is a possibility seeing as I got them off eBay).
I tried soft/hard resets, different ROMs, Active Sync/File Transfer connection modes and nothing worked... it mainly happened when I was trying to copy music. In the end, one of 16gb cards accepted enough of my files for me to get by, so I'm just gonna save up and go fork out for a legit MicroSD card from an electronics store somewhere. Might be the only option.
Google h2testw, that will help figure out if it's a real or a fake card. Good luck.
I could solve the problem by installing another browser and re-download the cabs, and it works perfectly thanks.
