NoteM & Auto Power Off

In WM2003SE, I used NoteM and, by default, it would override power settings and record until either the battery or storage space ran out. There's an option in NoteM settings to disable 03's auto power off.
This does not work in WM6 -- it powers off regardless of whether NoteM is running or not...I can only make two minute recordings and then the device shuts off. The only solution so far is to disable auto power off completely, but that is more trouble than it's worth.
Anyone else have the same problem (and a solution)??

not the solution you want, but, you can disable the power off in the device power settings.

That's what I said
The biggest problem with that is if I get a call or text message, the device activates to alert me of that fact but will never shut back off...battery go bye-bye!

Should be noted that imov keeps the device alive (IIRC) and NoteM doesn't.

Hello to everyone. I have a few questions...
1. When we hold the reject call button pressed the device keys lock. Is there an option to autolock the device keys let's say in 1 minute ?
2. What's going on with the alarm clock ? When the device is turned off the alarm clock can't "wake" (turn the power on) the phone and you lose the alarm. Is there a solution ? G-Alarm or Spb Time no good...
3. The programmable Soft Keys. Just above them at the bar it says Calendar and Contacts. But the Soft Keys run other applications because we have programmed them to. Is there a way the bar above them to reflect the Soft Key's programs and not Calendar and Contact ?

2. Of course the alarm can't ring when the device is switched off. What did you expect? It's turned off! No power, no boot, no ring. Your home computer won't ring either if you disconnect the power supply.
3. No, it's not. Because these buttons do not belong together. You have 4 buttons to use, otherwise you just would have 2 -it's much better this way.
However, you can do other way around and program the softkeys to do what the buttons on the screen tell you. START --> SETTINGS --> BUTTONS

2. Every cellphone can "wake up" and power on by its self when the defined alarm time is met. And then the alarm goes off so you can wake up. That's default from the first cellphone that ever came out. This is a bug and no software can fix this. I have tried G-Alarm and Spb Time. I guess i have to wait the update...

2. There you go..."every cellphone can wake up". But you have to get used to the thought that this is a pocket PC and no cellphone. Every cellphone is still running and using battery power, even when switched off, so the alarm can go off. Windows mobile and also Symbian S60 are operating systems that must boot first before the phone is active. When a pocket PC is switched off, it is really off. This is no bug and no update will ever fix this.

2. Every Nokia I had (Communicators, N95) turned on by its self when the alarm time met. Also all HTC phones (with windows) do that. I also had QTEK 9000. The same thing. Windows mobile but it turned it's self on. This is the first time I see this in a phone and it's unacceptable. Oh well ! I thought the option of Flight mode but I didn't want to believe that a phone in 2009 could not "power on" by its self. Nevertheless I strongly believe that this is a bug and it will be corrected...

little veto here.
Symbian is a CELLPHONE OS. therefore the alarm does work since its always running even of the phone is turned off.
Windows mobile was not intended to be a cellphone OS. it just received a small update. therefor ... device turnoed off = 0 power usage ... well close too ^^
its not a bug. its neither intended. its just a non existing feature. and since it would use some extra hardware (check alarm/clock and start phone) u probably wont get this feature at all.
btw ... why in the world would i want to turn my phone off
PS: keep in mind that u bought a Pocket PC with cellphone features and not vise versa!

Hmmm...my N95 of the first generation definitly did not power itself when the alarm should go off therefore I thought this is an issue with S60 too. So I stand corrected...maybe they fixed this in a later firmware update.

it did, or at least all symbian phones i ever had since 2002 so far did .
but like i said, symbian is made for cellphones.
while Windows mobile was just a windows for pocket devices. i dont know any PC wich boots automaticly up just u set an alarm under WIndows.

To be clear about this, as one of the posts above says, there are actually four (4) options here, all of them easily changeable:
1) the two "soft keys" at the very bottom of the touch screen (Contacts and Calendar by default) are able to be assigned to any installed app that has a shortcut - I'm running TC and an Expense Diary on my device

There are a number of these freeware programs, the one I've linked is just one of them
2) the two "hardware keys" directly below the touch screen are assignable in the Buttons app (Start>Settings>Personal). It's just that they are also called "software keys" in the Buttons menu choices, which is where I think the confusion here lies.
I've also re-assigned these two to functions quite separate to the defaults (left one rotates the screen, right one brings up my 3rd party contacts database)

When you turn the X1 off (and virtually all winmo ppcs since they changed the memory type) OFF really does mean OFF
From what I remember in the early days of PPCs if you turned off your device it wiped the memory so the device went into standby instead. it was frustrating to say the least.
If you want an alarm to work then put the x1 into standby then the alarm works rather than turn it off.
If the x1 isn't having enough wake up time to trigger the alarm when resuming from standby you can try increasing that setting using something like Advanced config. Mine works on stock.
Pcs can usually only be set to wake at a set time through the bios can't they? I can't imagine how a device would be able to use the operating system calls when the OS wasn't even loaded..

Actually you're wrong. It's not a bug, they'll not fix it.
It was identicall with all of my UIQ/Symbian SE smartphones.
But what the heck is the problem with just using flight mode? It's so convinient, just cut off all the connections, alarm runs great.
I would not expect my device to start the complex booting action just to ring the alarm and than turn itself off again.

that probably wont be much of a problem. but u need soem hardware which checks clock settings and actualy boot up the device. but thats all kind of expensive considering u just want to ring an alarm.
Symbian phones have a total different hardware structure and this feature is allready somewhat build-in

WM6.1 reminders don't repeat or wake device

Hi. I have been irritated about the win mobile device reminder not waking up my device or repeating the alarm if the device does wake up. Many times, I set an alarm using windows "clock and alarms", press repeat sound, and it repeats only once if at all. Also, if my phone is turned off, it won't wake the device. I have to turn it on then I hear alarms. Even when plugged in.
I have VZxv6900 Vogue. I have the windows mobile 6.1. Is there a cheap alarm that will wake my phone up with or without being plugged in, and also repeat until I dismiss it? I am looking for a RELENTLESS alarm clock for my Vogue XV6900. $10 or preferably less.

G-Alarm is the best free alarm, and no app will automatically power the device on.

Go to Settings->System->Power, and uncheck the "On External Power". This is how I got around it not waking me up in the morning. It stays on while being charged and the alarm WILL go off.

SMS notifications while in standby (findings)

So I've got the problem where when my phone is off/standby I don't get a notification or alert until I turn the phone on at which point it plays the standard alert and vibrate (this is of course useless).
Playing around and I noticed that this problem goes away when I uncheck the setting 'Turn device off after X mins'.
Now, at first I assume that there were 3 modes on the HD (and presumably on all htc phones) and they are: Power off, standby, on. Those states seem self explanitory. Give that assumption, I always thought that there was just a problem with the sms program doing a notification.
With this new solution, ie, disabling auto turn off, all my text messages come through with a notification within 6 seconds of sending it on the other end. But I played around with it some more. Some of you may know of a program called psshutxp. This program can do three things: display off, turn off, and reset. Now I never used this turn off feature before because I assumed it just turned the phone off. I activated this function with the auto turn off setting disabled (the phone doesn't auto turn off) and end up not receiving messages (exactly like the original problem).
What I've concluded then is that the device actually has 4 states: Power off, standby, display off, on. Now if you read the whole thing you may have noticed that I'm implying the solution is to disable auto off and thus leave the device in what would appear to be 'display off' mode. It works, certainly, but I'm starting to think that battery life is going to suffer immensely. (I'm going to test this tonight)
It seems we're back to square one, but wth a little, and albiet minor conclusion: SMS messages should wake the device but leave the screen off. There have been some intermediate solutions that say to change the 'disable device wake on sms' registry from 1 to 0 or use HD tweak to achieve a similar effect then combine this change with a good screen locker.
My question then is, is it possible to wake the device but leave the screen off via registry or via resident program?
Investigating the resident program option some more, is it possible to run compact framework programs while the device is in standby?
Finally, I know that the Touch Diamond 2 had a recent hotfix for this exact issue. Considering the similarities between the two devices, is it possible to port a solution? I'm going to see if I can try it out myself (but I'm not as experienced at platform modifications as I am in software development). I also noticed that a lot of Diamond 2 users still report the problem wasn't solved with that hotfix.

check out the HD Tweak app, i think it has a "wake on SMS" tweak you can apply to the phone. would also help if you mention if you're using a Stock or custom ROM. in my case, i'm using a custom ROM with SMS Chat and i'm gettting SMS notifications with my device in stand-by mode. fyi, i'm not using the HD Tweak app...

Yeah, the Wake on SMS on HD tweak as mentioned in my post basically modifies the registry for device wake on SMS.
However, this is not, and should not be normal behaviour as waking the device turns the screen on as well. (unless your device is different in that it doesn't turn on the screen at the same time as waking up from a SMS, if this is the case, then... that's a pretty significant finding.)

just tested my device... screen is off (e.g., hit the power button to turn it off) sent myself a txt via my email account, heard the SMS notification and screen is still off. i'm using a custom ROM miri v26.2.

I can achieve the same effect by disabling auto turn off. As in: my device remains off and the SMS notification is properly sounded. (everything works as it should)
However, I worry that the device isn't actually in standby and rather just has the display off (which means that background apps are still running). A possible concequence could be that it would drain my batt pretty fast ( this is my cheif concern).

G-Alarm problem

I have a strange problem with G-Alarm 2.6 on stock ROM 1.66 ITA
I leave the phone locked; in the morning the alarms goes on but by the time I take the phone the alarm is still ringing but the phone is locked and the screen is off: I have to turn the screen on, unlock the phone and then I can switch teh alarm off...

hm... I believe it is quite normal behaviour, however in g-alarm options You have a switch for unlocking on alarm. I left mine locked, as sometimes my alarms ring while in my pocket, so it is more safe.
... and in the morning I just shake my hd2 to turn alarm off.
