Pocket Hackmaster - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Has anybody tried Pocket Hackmaster (Anton Tomov Software) on their TyTN or other Hermes configuration? It appears that the cpu is covered under the latest version but I'm not sure it works w/o locking up???
Thanks!

This question has been answered many times already, but DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT trying to overclock your TyTN with PHM. It will definitely require a hard reset (or worse).
Consider yourself warned...

Thanks -- that's what I was looking for. Sorry -- never thought to do a search, just asked. Appreciate your fast response.

Overclocking works on the II - but...

...is it safe :?: :?: :?: :?:
Pocket Hack Master seems to do some chip-tuning to our little device.
Do you expect any problems with this?
I found the idea interesting to be able to actually speed the device down in order to conserve battery juice.
Experiences anybody?
In the past I did some overclocking with an ipaq and a different prog (Freeware from JimmySoftware) with good results.
However - the benchmark on the II is impressive.

I'v been using PHM on my XDA II for months, of course it's safe. Overheating a pocket pc is such a ridiulous idea.. i mean i used to do it with my old ipaq 3600, but that was a combination of wifi and a leather sleeve that made it overheat even when UNDERCLOCKED.
Overclocking does no damage. of course i take no responsibility, etc. etc.
But I do it myself, so that should say something (put money where mouth is type thing)

Which settings work best for you?
Thanks
v
can you apply PHM also to XDA I ???

Make sure to back up your device before you try it :!: :!: :!:
for me it's clear ... I've done it once without backup
and I am more clever now, heh

i've tried the overclocking software from jimmysoft.com before,
and 3 times, if overclocked AND playing a video game, the device will hard reset!
i have a t-mobile ppc. xda1
xda 1
is there an overclocking software for the 1st xda??...ive looked around more then a little bit, an i can only find programs for 400mhz
thanx peoples
You can download the profile here:

Juice, any overclocker for the ARM chip in ipaqs should work with XDA1, I did have a prog for doing it but lost it and forgot where it came from, search for "ipaq over clock" rather than "xda".

Unwanted automatic deleting files and software blocked??!!

Hi.
I just bought a Hermes (HTC TyTN), but something is wrong. I have made some registry hacks according to what I could find here, but ie. the "ClearType on rotation" keeps disappering if I soft reset. Also some CAB files seems to install, but I can't find the applications in the device. Not in any menu, not even by using File Explorer!
The device is supposed to be SIM locked (which it's not!), but could it be software locked?? I would not think, that a SIM lock would mean I wouldn't be able to install various things, but I may be wrong.
I really hope someone has some valuable information for me, because it's really annoying!
If anyone could give me some other advises for tuning the little bugg*r I would be very happy!
I had a "softwareunlock.cab" file for my Wizard, but I can't find a simular for the Hermes. Maybe that would do the trick?!

Hi TorbenKB
Are you using a file based registry?
Mike
Hi Mike.
I've been trying to edit the "ClearType" registry manually with PHMRegEdit. It didn't work. Then I found a "cleartypeon.CAB" file (probably for Universal, I can't remember). It seemed to work, but I just did a soft reset before I started this thread and it went back to "no" ClearType when in Landscape....

If you do a soft reset too early, ALL registry changes will disappear, as has also been pointed out in my registry & WM5-related articles (see for example http://www.pocketpcmag.com/blogs/index.php?blog=3&p=898&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1 ).
The solution (to be on the safe side): completely power down your phone (by long-pressing the Power button) before soft reset. It'll make the changes will be flushed back to flash ROM.

Hi Menneisyys.
Thank you. I wasn't aware of that, since I haven't had the same problems with my Wizard. I always power off (as in press the powerbutton for a sec or 2) and wait for about 30 seconds before I soft reset.
Do you have any idea why some files suddenly disappears? I would assume that when it's "installed"/saved to the internal storage, it would/should stay there. I mean...a "regular user" wouldn't care about turning everything completely off before soft resetting and should not experience loss of data??!!
Does anyone know if Hermes are or could be software locked? Like I said in the first post, I tried to install some programs, and they are not present at all, though they appear in "Add/remove programs".
I'm running a Danish version of WM5 btw.

I would also assume that. Can you tell us:
1. Does this apply to all your installations and if not give us an example or two of disappearing ones?
2. What location are you installing to?

Well,... not all. I've installed TomTom6 in Main Memory. But tomtom.exe file and other files from the TomTom directory gets deleted on soft reset, but not everytime. I have phoneAlarm and Spb Diary2 installed in Main memory too. They are fine even after several soft resets.
And... I just did yet another soft reset following the "instructions" from Menneisyys, but ClearType in landscape reg-hack is gone!!!
I usually don't do a lot of soft resets, but it seems my Hermes has a problem with charging in my car, whenever I have been using Active Sync at home. Only solution to that=soft reset...
Man, I'm loosing my patience with this device!!

Now here's the thing! None of this may be any use to you but may spark some ideas and you may well know or have tried them already:
Regards car charging prob:
Active Sync must be fully closed before charging. i.e using a task manager, say Magic Button or HTC X Button etc and not just using the regular X at top right.
And if you get the Problem: Hermes will only charge when switched off Car Charging problem
Pulling out charger lead (or interrupting power supply) while charging in car (with device on or off ) may result in Hermes only charging while turned off
Possible Solution:
a.) Connect charger with power on
b.) Switch on Hermes
c.) Soft reset whilst connected
Hermes should now charge whilst on or off.
This is more to avoid the situation arising than to give a possible way of dealing with it when it has.
Regards the reverting registry:
Hive Registry (current position)
HKLM\System\ObjectStore] RegistryType=1
Possible change to File based registry
HKLM\System\ObjectStore] RegistryType=0
Soft Reset with application such as Tweaks2k2.
Using the device soft-reset button will remove the change again if you use it for the first reset and it will all have been for nothing!
In this setup reg changes should stick after doing resets.
Another thought is that you may have some corruption caused by the changes that are being made and the "last known good" scenario is being used on boot - see here http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...cgconpersistingdatawithhive-basedregistry.asp

Hi Mike.
Again, thank you for your information.
I have Active Sync running all the time, since I use Push-mail. However, I will try to close it when I get back in my car later today and see if it charges again.
Btw. I'm already running File based registry. Wasn't sure when you asked earlier.
Tweaks2k2 doesn't work with my OS language. Do you know, if something like Spb PocketPlus ability to soft reset would do the job?
I miss some of the nice apps from the Wizard.. like the RegistryWizard by Nico Dekker.
My problems with the TyTN seems endless.. I just found out that if I turn on WiFi and tries to use PIE, the device will connect via UMTS or GSM, not WiFi!!
Seriously considering returning the TyTN and go back to my Wizard...

Mmmm.. sounds like it's getting you down
Afraid I don't know answer re SPb. The PIE thing about not using Wifi has come up and there are solutions but sadly I can't recall what. Will find on this board somewhere.
Depending on how vital some of these issues are, makes a difference as to whether you enjoy the tracking down of solutions. And maybe your right, possibly you have too many issues to enjoy the process. In the end though and despite a hard reset with NO backup the other day I still enjoy this device - but then I never had a Wizard!

Hi Mike.
I will go home and do a hard reset this afternoon. Maybe I'll just use a different ROM version and see if that makes a difference. I suspect that my mobileoperator have made some sort of application lock, which locks down every attempt to change the device..
But thank you very much for your help (and Menneisyys too). I'll search the forum yet another time to see if I can find solutions...
If none of this makes a difference, I'll return the Hermes and cry myself to sleep tonight. ...and in the morning be back with my s-l-o-w Wizard...

Soft Reset Causes Device to hang

I've got a bit of an odd issue with an XDA Trion/Hermes -
Basically no matter what ROM I use (WM5/WM6/Cooked) after installing a few apps (doesn't matter which ones - I've tried all kinds of combinations) when I do a soft reset the device will boot back up and hang at the Windows Mobile splash screen. If I hard reset the device functions fine again until I load some stuff on it. I've also seen it do this without anything installed - but it is a lot less frequent.
All in all I can't go more than a few days without having to hard reset and reload my stuff. Sometimes its one day, sometimes its multiple days. Restoring from a backup also causes this to happen - so hard resetting and then restoring is not an option. Also, I've left the device at the splash screen from a full battery to dead just to make sure I wasn't being impatient.
Anyone seen this before? Any ideas before I call HTC and ask them to look at it?
Suggest you do some searches on "bad memory block"
Mike
Will do - thanks for the suggestion!

Well did I did a bunch of searching as you suggested - spent almost 4 hours yesterday just on the forum looking for answers on this. Using "mtty" and checking in the bootloader I've determined there to be no bad blocks.
I've tried all sorts of different WM6 Roms, Hard SPL, you name it. All of them end up with the same problem.
The only time I don't have a problem is when I use an OEM WM5 ROM. Using an OEM WM6 Rom - I have the problem come back.
RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2.15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship == NO Lockup on Splash Screen
RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3.62.502.3_6275_1.54.07.00_108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship == Lockup on splash screen after a few MB of apps/data added to the device
Any other ideas?
Mmm... well I think you need someone more expert than I. You might try a PM to the likes of MrVanx to see if anyone has reported this or some of the other developers for the Hermes Pof et al.
Mike
Thanks Mike I appreciate the attempt - I think I might just be happy with the fact that its working again. Its really just backup device to my iPhone but at least now I can rely on it again to hold onto my data for more than a couple days. I'll spend some more time reading all the posts. Now that I know what I have to do to get it working again after trying something experimental its not so bad.
Thanks again
I've been having the same problem with my 8525, it like sometimes more then not, it freezes at the green windows mobile. It is really frustrating, let me know if you have found a solution, but the problem with my 8525 is the lag, in it, I'm thinking of maybe switching to a blackberry 8320 if this problem doesn't get fixed.

Are you experiencing the same problem as the poster? I am not experiencing anything like it at all. I have a jasjam, and flashed with a shipped ROM first, and then with CRCinAU's version 11.2, what have you got installed on your phone? Just remember the specs of the hermes, compared to the likes of a raphael or even a polaris (touch cruise).
Don't go jumping the gun getting an iphone, read this bit for a bit of a review. I honestly not having the problems some of the guys are having here knowing my phone's limitations and what I can get out of my hermes.

I am getting the same problem as the poster. I have a Palm Treo 750 running WM6 from Palm web site ATT version 2.25 download.
After I load a few of my apps on there the phone will all of a sudden start playing up with the buttons not responding. I do what you should be able to do and soft reset by it all stops at the windows logo then end of story. Only way out is hard reset and set everything up again.

Must be some app conflict, I have my wife's treo with me at the moment and it is as good as new, can't imagine what would be conflicting with the treo tho

Newbie questions for HTC 8525

Hello,
I purchased a 100% working HTC 8525 (case fair) from Ebay. I have a few questions: 1) I would like to unlock it, any risk in doing this? 2) I have read in the forums some problems with Wm6 upgrading, is it really worth it? 3) The slide is loose, is there a way to tighten it? or replace the case?
In your title, you mention the HTC 8525 and in your discussion, it's the HTC 8125. Which is it?
1). Yes... Do some reading first.
2). WM6 faster than WM5, WM6.1 faster still....
3). Yes, Do a search for Mike Channon. Links to his site for guide on how to fix Hermes sliders in his sig.
Mod Edit: here's a link: http://michael-channon.spaces.live.com/?_c11_BlogPart_BlogPart=blogview&_c=BlogPart&partqs=cat%3dHermes%2bFixes
apologies for cheeky edit - Mike
Cheers...
No worries Mike, haven't seen you around lately...

Speaking from experience as a relatively new 8525 user too, I can make some comments.
1) To begin, the method of unlocking was among the easiest I've ever seen. I simply downloaded a program and then ran it. I liked it so much I even donated to the author; it really is nothing more than downloading and running.
2) There are some problems with everything, but if you do it correctly, then nothing should go wrong. Likewise with the previous one, I was surprised to discover that upgrading from WM5 to WM6 took nothing more than downloading and running the program. Admittedly, I didn't find many things impressive about WM6 over WM5, but it is visually much nicer, and people add a lot of nice things, so I do recommend it.
3) There most likely is a way to fix it, but unfortunately, I would not know well. I'm not exactly the most talented person with my hands.
Anyway, although what I said about simply downloading and running the programs is true, I fully recommend that you read all the FAQs and guides first, which is what I did (out of intense fear that I would brick my phone). Before doing anything else, I would highly recommend installing Hard SPL (I believe the SIM unlocker program can install this for you too, but the newest version is better).

Mic not working on phone, but does work on other functions

Hello - I've been searching these forums and the wiki and Google too looking for a solution to this but so far, can't find a solution so hope members here can help:
I recently got another XDA Exec and a week ago, the phone mic stopped working. I know its not a hardware problem as the phone can record my voice for notes.
I've done a few hard resets and each time, nothing changes, so am truly baffled.
I'd be very grateful for any answers to this, and apologise in advance if I have missed an answer that has already been posted - I have tried searching, honest!
Cheers,
JB

Try another ROM...perhaps?
I could do, but before I attempt anything like that - something I've not done before - I wanted to figure out how to remedy it with the existing ROM, which is the O2 one installed without all of O2's own stuff.
It was working perfectly well with this ROM before....in fact the only thing I can think of that might somehow have caused this was me pairing the XDA with a bluetooth handsfree set the same day. It might just be coincidence, it might not - I can't tell.
I suppose what I'm hoping for is some guidance re any settings on the device that I don't know about that have caused this, or the necessary registry edit to remedy the problem. Its odd that the phone mic worked before then stopped working, despite hard resets with the same ROM. Forgive my naivety, but I thought ordinary user-level tweaks didn't affect the core settings of the ROM....or am I wrong?
Cheers,
JB
PS - Lower Hutt! I remember seeing it through the mist one day after catching the ferry from the South Island before heading off to Cuba Street for a boozy afternoon...
Yup, got exactly the same problem before buying my HD.
I thinked that my micro was dead and didn't try to fix it before.
Just now i got here to search another rom to test and i saw this thread highlighted
The rom on my universal is TOMAL 8.0 or more i don't exactly remember the version, what's yours ?
I will download another version to check if the micro will be alright and give some feedback

Could be a range of reasons, from some program install or addition to the software set to files going missing. Trying a new ROM or reflashing with the original (but believe me, once you try new WM6.1 You'll probably never go back) might be one of the solutions. Flashing of ROM is a piece of cake, however, I recommend reading as much as possible on the procedure and ways to remedy the unexpected situations before you begin. Everything you may possibly need and answers to all your questions is contained in a Wiki - have a look and ask questions if you cannot find answers and are completely stuck.
Heh, Lower Hutt is on the opposite side of the harbour, coming from SI.
I reflashed with TOMAL 8.9 and micro works very well now
i readed too fast yesterday and didn't see that you're using the original rom, like enigma1nz suggest you, i suggest you too to try a 6.1 rom, it's really great and improve a lot the speed/touch felling/etc for the universal.
Plus it's really easy to flash a rom, it's not necessery to read a lot of documentation,
you just need to connect your universal to pc with activesync (4.5)
and launch the exe file from the rom
