Can you describe the actions you took to make it work? I'm using a mac, which I know most of you aren't, but I'd still like to have as much information as possible so I can try to figure out how to use it with macs, via usb or bluetooth. I know there's a wiki entry for tethering via bluetooth with the wireless modem setup, but the method doesn't work with Internet Sharing. If I(or someone else for that matter) can come up with a solution, I'd be glad to add it to the wiki.

Unfortunately, it seems it won't work with the Mac - see http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1041555&page=2&pp=15 and http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1030837 .

...that blows Appreciate the response though. I wasn't quite sure where to try and get more information on the subject. Doubtful that apple will release a software update for their bluetooth hardware to allow me to do it through bluetooth. I'll probably have to wait on a 3rd party app. Thanks again.
Update...was able to successfully use parallels to tether and connect via usb, but I'm not sure if it's possible to share that internet connection with OSX. Will keep reading.
Cingular 8525 (AKU3)-Internet Sharing with PAN problems
I have a Cingular 8525 (AKU3) and use BlueSoleil BT on my laptop. I followed the instructions described in the forum. After starting Internet Sharing and using PAN I see that the 8525 and the laptop are connected through PAN, but the laptop is not connected to the Internet. What am I missing? I can see that the PDA is connected to 3G, but for some reason on the laptop I can send, but not receive.
I even tried the same with my desktop with the same result. Is there a setting in BlueSoleil that is the cause for not getting on the Internet?
i cant get PAN working on sony ux280p (toshiba stack) with tytn mobile 6.0. it works fine on aku 3.2
Can you describe in detail how you did it?
reinstall or downgrade your bluetooth driver.
i have PAN working on aku 3.3, after i do "windows update", i having the same problem as u. so i have to do "windows restore" back a few week and pan working again.
now i'm on wm6.0, sony ux280p (toshiba stack) cant even find the pan service no matter what i do.
but pan is working on my desktop with windows xp with wm6.0 tho..
Kalrykh, I might be misunderstanding you here. ..but if you're trying to make the phone's "Internet Sharing" provide internet access to your Mac via USB, you can use Missing Sync for Windows Mobile. I've been using it all week (with WM5 AKU 3.3 and now with WM6) and it works *brilliantly*. I just tap "Connect" in Internet Sharing, then plug into my Mac. A few seconds later the Mac is online.
i use missing sync for the mac..all i did was install it and the started the internet sharing program on my tytn and my 8525 and it worked on both
Has anybody used a Nokia N770 or N800 with the new internet sharing system? I am planning to buy one and I want to be able to tether it to my 8525 when I upgrade to WM6.
Ninja1
OS 10.5 will support Bluetooth PAN profile.
I'm sticking with the current official Cingular ROM on my 8525 until then.
OS 10.5 is rumored to be coming out maybe at the end of March.
*wonders*
Why the fuss with bluetooth? the speed isn't fantastic.. stick with good old usb.. =)

dont like cable! but i have no choice! bt pan mobile 6.0 dont work with toshiba stack. but usb pan does work..
found no answer yet.
I tried both BlueSoleil1.6 and Widcom5.0.1 on my laptop XP with my WM6 based Qtek9100, both MyBluetoothWorkplace and Internetsharing show the connection is established, but IE (on the laptop) can't browse anything (while PIE will work over GPRS).
When I Ping the device IP interface (eg.192.168.0.1), it returns "request timeout".
That's strange! any help on that?
I used to be able to tether using my old ROM as well as the "un-official" new ROM versions prior to the recently released ROM update dated 4/09/07.
I use Missing Sync (ver 3.0.2) on OS X, and it would allow me to tether the 8525 using internet sharing set to USB. Now the only way I am able to tether is via the Bluetooth PAN, and even then the connection is spotty at best.
Did the official ROM change the way Internet Sharing works? This is very annoying and any assistance or ideas would be welcome.
I downgraded from the CUSTEL 2.5 WM6 ROM due to Missing sync's inability to sync with it as well as an inability to tether my Mac. Vista using Bootcamp works but Vista isn't my cup of tea...
Soon...
In a couple of weeks time you will have a solution to your problems with Apple OS X and Microsoft Windows Mobile. (Hint: it's not free.)
I am assuming that this would the much anticipated Missing sync update. If only I could shorten the wait... oh well.
Thanks.
Not really. Trade your 8525 for the iPhone!

something must be wrong with your phone because I use Bluetooth pan with internet sharing at work, in my car, at home and it works just fine. I even thought about ditching the Internet at home

I do it too. All the time. Is AWESOME from the car, especially in a a 3G area. (Parked, not driving.)
i can't even connect my 8525 to my mac via bluetooth. it worked once and now the phone won't open up the passcode screen to connect.
edit: my rom is version 1.34.502.3. should i update to a newer one?
I think its the location that I am at that may be to blame. I have a really slow connection via Bluetooth PAN. The same isn't true when using Vista and Internet sharing via USB - that connection is much faster (though it too blanks out at times).
As for connecting to OS X: simply start the Bluetooth setup assistant on the mac and search for "any device". Then select the phone and pair the two. At the very end of the process the Mac will list the services that are available via the phone. One of them will be the shared network.

yeah, it stalls after i select it from the device list. the screen where it gives me the passcode to connect it, it seems like my phone doesn't receive it. not sure. but you think i should upgrade the rom? looks like mine is kinda old.
I'm posting with OSX using my phone right now
delete the bluetooth pairing on the osx machine and on the phone
from osx bluetooth assistant and select any device
if it asks about using the phone as a headset disselect that
if the phone once pairs asks about a serial device do not select that
verify if bluetooth still is on on the phone
goto internet sharing
bluetooth pan
connect
make sure its actually connected to the internet
on the osx machine click the bluetooth icon again and select "join network on ___your phones name____ "
thats it!
sometimes give it a second
if it still doesn't work make sure you don't have some kind of crazy firewall setup
using Custel's 2.5 rom (windows mobile6)

Hi,
Some weeks ago I tryed to use MissingSync for internet sharing with different WM6 versions without success. With official AKU3.3.1 version it works with the USB cable. But battery life is very short with this version.
Regards.
Yes, missing sync does not yet support WM6. Try the "normal" bluetooth pan method described above.
Anyone tried doing OS X tethering with newer versions of the WM6 roms?
I'm currently running vp3G 2.0 (WM6), rom date 5/15/07, radio 1.40.30.00, protocol ver. 32.73.7020.16H
Because I'm working offsite tomorrow, I was hoping to use my phone to tether my laptop to work with VPN on the laptop... and then I can login and out of the timeclock, etc. But trying it from work tonight before I leave, I can't get the bluetooth on my 8525 to connect to the PC.
Followed Neomuzic's instructions to the letter, but Safari isn't getting things working. Any assistance would be appreciated!!!
Nevermind... I'm a dork! Figured out where Internet Sharing was on the phone, and all is well. Having a little trouble connecting to my work proxy server... but messing with that now.

As of August2007, Missing Sync 4 supports WM6.
I'm also using bluetooth pan right now to post
Hello all,
I usually dont post much since i rarely have anything to contribute, but this time I do. I am running a macbook connected to my cingular 8525 thru the bluetooth pan and have zero problems. I upgraded my rom to the new vp one with all the latest settings and love it. No more looking for a hotspot for me. I dont use safari broswer on my mac, i use firefox. Thanks to everyone on this forum with the knowledge and time for helping the rest of us.
What i do is connect my JasJam to xp running through parallels, start internet sharing and it installs the drivers(first time of connecting it) and then it works perfectly everytime. Only in xp though.
I have installed the latest missing sync but havent tried internet sharing on mac osx but now that u guys say it works thats awesome! Will mess with it later (knowing me i won't attempt to get it to work until i'm off in some foriegn area with no internet connection and will need to download drivers that i'll struggle to get through pie/opera on my jasjam...) i fail to plan ahead with things like this! lol

Tethering 8525 to MACBOOK. HELP.
I tried several different approaches to tether my 8525 to my MACBOOK, with no success.
I have specific scripts from the web installed into the modem scripts folder. No luck with any of them. I believe the scripts aren't the problem but the COM ports are the culprit.
I recieve an error message that says," Failed to open RFCOMM serial channel. Check if authentication needs to be enabled in your device"
This is after pairing the 8525 to the MACBOOK and completing the blue tooth setting in the Network folder in the System Preference folder.
The pairing is successful because I can "send files" to the 8525 via blue tooth icon.
I read somewhere that the MACBOOK should allow me to set and choose COM ports but I haven't found the option.
My question is where do I find the COM port option in the MACBOOK because I believe that is where my problem is.
MACBOOK C2D, OS 10.4.10.

I am coming from a symbian device and using nokia pc suit I am able to use my N97 as a sort of modem, conecting to internet using 3g conection of my cel phone to access internet.
So, is this possible to do in an android enviroment?
Yes this is, but it does require root access. This ability comes in the form of two things, wired tethering, or wireless tethering. I believe Cyanogen's ROM has these features, I do not know for sure as I have not read the feature list or installed it on the N1.. which I don't have yet..
But yes, it is possible.
You can use PdaNet (free for http) without root. Been using it since day one and it is slick! See here:
http://www.junefabrics.com/android/index.php
Basically there are three options:
1) USB tether.
2) "Wireless tether": share 3G over Wifi. (extreme battery hog)
3) Pdanet
Remarks: 1+2) need root on the N1, but no special drivers on the PC if its sufficiently modern (afaik you need to manually install some drivers for Win XP). 3) needs no root but special software on the PC (mac+win only, probably only certain versions supported)
I'm using 1) daily with the Modaco ROM, works very well.
PS: Modaco ROM is free, Pdanet has a free trial but $$$ if you want https support.
Thanks a lot guys!
Can I ask one last question regarding this issue?
What about bluetooth? Is it possible to do through bluetooth?

I know PdaNet has a Bluetooth option as well as USB.
Great, thanks a lot!!!
Wifi tether also has a BT-PAN option to connect through bluetooth.
Has anyone got tethering working on Three UK? Been looking for some info for some time now but it seems ppl just get some sort of errors.
I've been searching for the same answer. I setup the tethering on my Omina 7 but can't connect as I don't have the three dial up number which all the guides seem to require.

Yea,,,, the same:'(
And you have tryed used the software that comes with 3? I have used my own operator here in Sweden and that works.
hey guys, came across your thread, 3 does not support tethering on their network as they are waiting for the offical windows software to come out to do it, which i am annoyed about as i got this phone on the basis it can tether. however if you still want the number it is *99# to dial to and u do not require a username or password (worked on my blackberry 9700), I am currently downloading the verizon vzaccess software as this supposidly allows the omnia to tether so I shall see what that comes back with
Still not able to connect using this... Anybody had better luck?

This is for USB tethering.
Internet Sharing works perfectly, thankfully!
So I have searched high and low and haven't had any luck finding any information about tethering the TF to a WM6.5 device. I am currently using a stock Touch Pro 2. When I pair the two devices together, under the BT settings on the TF there are no profiles listed. When I try to set up a network with the phone using "Share Internet Connection," I get the error message saying "Failed to establish internet sharing connection to remote device as it supports only Network Access Point (NAP) mode."
If anybody could shed some light on how I could actually get the the TF to tether with my phone, that would be greatly appreciated!
I have a Tilt2 running energy rom, normally i'd run wifi-router then all is well.
Apparently the Transformer doesn't accept AD-HOC and idk when it will be supported. The only way i can tether through wifi was to install FRX06 android.
Here's a link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951962
Once you get to run android on your TP2 go to Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> Tethering & portable hotspot -> check the portable wi-fi hotspot box. You may add a passcode if you want but it will be defaulted to Open.
I've tried it and it works! Good luck!

+1 This is the only way you can get it to work on the phone side that I can find. Works flawlessly.
Transformer wont see 6.5 tether unless you root it.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
Works fine for me, but slightly counter-intuitive. Firstly I paired the Phone and Transformer:
1. Set Phone to discoverable
2. Scan for devices on TF
Secondly, run Internet Sharing App (its in the tools folder on my WM6.5)
Select Bluetooth PAN instead of USB from the top dropdown and hit Connect
Now on the TF, selecting the Phone from the bluetooth settings should tether you
No rooting or modding of the TF required. Note this is Bluetooth tethering, not WiFi which doesn't work as WM6.5 WiFi tethering is Ad-Hoc, whci TF does not support without root and mod

I tried this method, but for some reason it still doesn't work. On the phone it says the following.
"Failed to establish Internet Sharing connection to remote device as it supports only Network Access Point (NAP) mode"
Also on the TF it still shows no profiles available with the phone. From what I have read in the forum is that the Touch Pro 2 is using the Broadcom Bluetooth stack and it doesn't' play very nice with other devices.

Which phone do you have? I have the same exact problem asthe OP using my Sprint TP2. I dont see Bluetooth PAN option in my TP2.
I was informed that if even our 6.5 devices would have that option to have bluetooth PAN active, our Transformers doesn't support DUN. Basically, it would be pointless to get internet through this bluetooth method Only thing that will happen is that we can share files with our WM 6.5 devices with our Transformer.
I have Omnia 2 running WM 6.5 using wmwifirouter (use trial version first). Launch using 3G BT, then under options - tools - Bluetooth - Swithch mode to PAN, then switch to discoverable.
Connects great - not the fastest, but I'll wait until we can have ad-hoc work or until I learn more about rooting.
i was able to to do blue tooth tether of Treo Pro 6.5 (raiderfan rom) Ill try it again once i get home and post details (in case it helps anyone)
mt TP2 screen broke and currently on my palm centro...(yes,,go ahead and laugh..haha)
might connect my tp2 just to try the tether. that phone is on a ENergy ROm

Not using Energy ROM, running stock HTC WM6.5 on a Touch Diamond 2. If you don't get Bluetooth PAN in your drop-down I guess your ROM does not support it
Aye, Not only the Rom, but the device itself on wmwifirouter
http://support.wmwifirouter.com/devices/
HTC Touch Pro 2
AT&T Tilt 2
HTC Rhodium
Sprint Touch Pro 2
Support from version 1.50. Sharing using Bluetooth not currently supported.
Guess i have to research more for alternatives.
Fellow TP2 owner here, I just pushed the modded file over to the TF (need root of course) and WIFI tethering works like a champ for me. Need to keep the phone screen active from what I can tell but I'm just using the built in HTC WIFI Router, 3rd party apps might have other options.
So while Bluetooth might be nice it seems like a no go for us old school TP2 owners...

I guess it all depends on what rom you use.
I'm using the 1st generation touch pro with NFSFAN's rom. Bluetooth is right there under the internet sharing application and works flawlessly with my TF.

I don't think it's so much ROM specific as it is PHONE specific. Haven't heard of any TP2's that work with bluetooth tethering looking across multiple forums on the subject.
