Hey fellow tytn users
Had a problem with my keypad on the front of tytn locking up and the screen going "blank" from time to time so I decided to dismantle it this monrning and investigate.
I should add that this tytn is pre-production and has been flashed with the latest i-mate rom (not the one from telstra)
I have now reassembled it but the backlight on the screen does not come on, (i got a bit trigger happy with my torx and phillips screwdriver and I think I may of overlooked something.
Does anybody have a disassembly guide for the HTC tytn so I can see where I went wrong? Thanks in advance

Hi, yes very common problem
After only two weeks you could exchange the device (took 3 months before my stylus became loose) but it is a design fault with the wizard
Quick fixes include - tape around sylus, blue tack placed inside, bit of a plastic bag stuffed in etc...
More complicated fixes include taking device apart and replacing faulty plastic part
see this post for extensive discussion on this subject

meschle, Thanks a lot!
stylus problem
I have been using my qtek 9100 for three days, and the stylus has just fallen out and gone missing! I really do share your pain, as this is unbearable as the screen is to small for fingers.
u can buy a replacement stylus off ebay for cheap in china, i ordered 2 for emergencies myself.
hi!
I've a big problem with the "front button" of my TyTn (the keypad and the upper buttons).
they don't work for 90% of times.
The configuration of these button in WM is correct.
This problem is with WM6 and also WM6.1
What I can do?
thanks
same here
it's really annoying...
anyone solved this problem?
same here
It would help if you could be more precise about which buttons are not working (the Hermes doesn't have a 'keypad' per se) which variant of the Hermes you have (8525 etc) and which ROM you have.
OK!
the model is hermes200 with WM 6.1
udk 8.0 R2 vega - kaiser ROM 3.62
CE 5.2.19209
Build 19213.0.7.0
I hope the informations are what you need.
I attach a picture with the buttons that don't work
Just got my phone back from the service (because of that problem) My friend who repaired it told me that the cable that connects the screen with the main part of the phone did everything.... ( sorry for my english)

Yes, and that flex cable connector is a good place to start for the DIY people here.
Mike
I opened my Tytn several times and cleaned the inside stuff, reconnected connectors.
Now it's ALMOST good. Still few times a day front buttons die, but emmediately after turning display ON and OFF buttons start working.
I did it reading this site.
What about flex cable connector? Isn't it fixed with a tape to the case? Do I just use another tape to fix it back after reconnecting the connector?
thanks so much for your suggestion!!!
I found the froblem in the flex connector in the left side (see picture).
There was too pressure on this.
Now the phone runs perfectly!

Good news
... and that pic of yours shows both the connectors that can cause problems.

hi, i have the same problems but i only had problems with it after flashing my rom to WM6.5... please help.. thanks!
I had a similar problem with my X01HT. Replacing the front buttons fixed the problem, seems like the original front buttons were worn out after intensive use.
Hi there,
Maybe someone can explain me, where is the hermes's slide indicator (or.. I don't the correct term, sorry for my bad English). My friend gave me his phone, after he was trying to change phone's cover to original htc tytn cover (of course, top part of the case did not fit on that hermes, but bottom case fit's ok). And after he assembled all parts - phone did not recognize when you are sliding the keyboard, and the screen is not turning to landscape position.
And now I want to fix it for myself, ant had tried to search where is that indicator, which 'sees' when you slide the phone. And when I disassembled - I just cant identify that thing. Only one place in my inexperienced eye is suspicious - http://img65.imageshack.us/img65/8708/dscf7321.jpg this place, in other side of LCD, where the hinges(?) is placed. But I can't understand, how its working (I have other HTC TYTN, but it's under warranty, so I cant dissasembly it to try use other parts, o smth..).
So, I would be grateful if someone could lead me to the right road' to fix this problem... if it's possible.
Thanks,
Laimis.
Yes your friend forgot to move the screen orientation magnet from the old case to the new one!! New cases do not have the magnet attached you have to move it from the old case.

Thank you, Mike!
you were right there is no magnet on the new case, so now I will wait until my friend will send me an old case.
God luck!
... good luck to you
Hi all, my Hermes/JasJam LCD screen and front panel stopped working a while back with the whiting out issue, funny artifacts and non working buttons. I have pulled it apart quite a few times to make temporary solutions but none have lasted enough.
So now I'm looking to buy a used Hermes and jack the screen part off it and place it on mine. Now I know how to do this but what came to my mind was:
Buy the newer version of the Hermes and place it's front part on my old jasjam which would be like a mixed/modded Hermes.
So I saw the O2 Zinc and the TyTN II and i really like the front panels better than the original hermes ones. So, before I buy one of them, does someone know if the ribbon cable is the same as the original one that connects to the phone's mainboard?
Any help much appreciated!
Hello guys,
At first, sorry for my average english
So, there is my problem:
I've got a HTC TyTN / MDA Vario II / HTC Hermes 300, and my touch screen digitaliser (or simply "touch screen foil") is broken, so I want to replace it. I've got a service manual, and all the tools, but I don't know if it's possible to replace this part from HTC TyTN II / MDA Vario 3 to my MDA Vario II.
Why I am asking this? Because it's impossible to find on shops on internet the right touch screen foil / digitaliser for HTC Hermes 300 / MDA Vario II.
I hope you can help me.
Very thanks, Pavol
solved
problem solved by buing a new htc original branded touch screen digitaliser.

Did you replace the touch screen only without the LCD?!! You were very brave - I'd normally recommend getting the digitizer/LCD combined.
Pleased you got it fixed
Mike
yes, I did it, but the problem was:
My MDA Vario 2 uses a touch foil (cca 0.5mm thick), and I use a "touch panel" or how to say it, so the thickness growth +1,5mm, so it was hard to put it on without risk of any damage, because it was impossible for me to find and buy the touch foil. But it fully works, altought it takes me about one day to dismount it, to remove the parts of broken old foil (I used a knife to do it, because it was a strong "glue?" on it so it was a problem to remove), then mounting the new one and difficulties with "finding the right contact" in the motherboard... but it's done and functionable
