Not able to sign in to pocket MSN - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Hi,
At last i got my T-mobile Vario II connect to the network, so today i was testing my 3g connection, so i tried signing onto pocket msn but it keeps telling me unable to sign in please retry i've tried over wifi/3g but nothing is tmobile blocking msn?
I've unlocked the phone with the tools provided on this forum, so don't know if anythign else changed.
I would appreciate any help, as i was looking foward for this feature , one of the reason to get web n walk.
Thanks
Hugo

I currently have this problem too, but i was (and have been using it since i got my vario2) using it fine last night. Probably a temp thing.
Imp

it's good to know, just wondering did pocket msn come with your vario 2 from tmobile? Coz i swear when i got it i didn't even see it there but when i unlocked the phoned with the software i noticed it was there. Maybe i'm seeing things.
So your sugestion is to keep trying?

Hey yes I have this problem too. I couldn't sign in to Hotmail as well.

I had this as well. Can't log in with the built in MSN Messenger. Agile Messenger works perfectly, though. That said, I tried it last night while trying to get my Hotmail access set up, and it worked for the only time in 2 weeks.
Nobody here has said which version of WNW they're on, so I'll assume basic. Some people (including sales people at T-Mob) have said that this is blocked on the basic package, despite it not being explicitly blocked in the T&Cs (falling under the "other" unallowed). Depends what exactly you signed up to and when though, I guess.

I'm on the basic one! £7.50 Web "n" Walk! Will not be too happy as i was informed by customer services before buying that it was allowed.
If it is blocked then i got to have a word with them about getting it unblocked.

I didn't say it is blocked, just that I've been told that it is. Then again, I've been told that it's not, and IIRC the change to the W'n'W T&Cs last month removed specific mention of MSN Messenger as disallowed.
Maybe it's nothing.

For some reasone I can connect to Pocket MSN perfectly last night. Don't know, maybe when I tried it the first time it was a one off thing.

Got it working, had extra letter in user name. dough! (simpson mode)

also another thing to note. I experience problems with the Pocket MSN when I turn on the Proxy settings for internet connection for my GPRS/3G. Lucky my provider seems to work without proxy as well.

Msn had been working fine, and then it stopped and could not connect for a few hours yesterday, leading em to belieb there is issue with msn servers.
I'll have a look at the proxy later, still new phone don't want change alot of things just yet eheh

Can't connect here either!
Hi
Had the same problem here for several days, can't log into Messenger on my Vario II - anybody got any ideas what's up?

Pocket MSN signing in FAILED !!

I've tried to sign in into msn messenger using pocket msn, but failed using WIFI ... any other website has openned wonderfully, but the signing in process to the messenger still fails ?? what can i do to get it done ?
I tried for ages yesterday too and it also failed everytime :-(
Same here , will update this post once ii figure out why , nice tidbit is that im experiencing this with both the Original M3000 ROM and the new I-Mate ROM
It's been happening on my MDA Compact too, so its certainly not a phone issue - only over WiFi (which used to work) - can still log in over GPRS. can't download my HotMail box either! Everything else working fine over WiFi.
I had the same problem untill i change the date and time the correct time;-)
im also having problems signing in Pocket MSN over GPRS...
I had the same problem too, until I signed in using gprs, then went back to wifi, and everything went fine.
Same problem here (I'm using the Qtek 8310 / SP5). MSN mobile doesn't always appear to be up, shame considering they charge $10 to sign up for it!
it's free; how come you say they do charge $10 to sign up to Pocket MSN !! and i want also to tell that it fails to sign in over GPRS too ... it displays the following message : "The Service isn't Available, Please Try Again Later" .... can anybody log in to Pocket MSN successfully over GPRS and WIFI ?? if yes, plzzzzz guys don't hesitate to help us ... thank you in advance ...
Same problem here for 2 days, i'm trying to connect to PocketMSN via GPRS. I tried about 10 times for successfully login.
you mean at the 10th try you got it working ?

pocket msn u can make it work
hey ppl,
i have imate jasjar, till recently i was also facing a problem like u guys! but thn i discovered something... this is stupid but at times this does work!!! i don't know but what happens with my computer is that it automatically changes the date of my pda by one day... so if u guys check, that might be the same problem with u fella's
as well there is one more issue, ur regional settings should either be oriented to English UK or English US , thn and only then it would work....
if u still have a problem let me know....
cheers...

i had a strange situation when i tried to connect to MSN mobile; through wi fi i couldn't make it work no matter what i tried. BUT...
the strange thing i had is through GPRS, you see.. i'm using 2 SIM cards for 2 operators in Saudi (STC AL JAWWAL, & MOBILY) when i try to connect through STC SIM card i see hell before i can connect (if i could anyway) but when i use the MOBILY SIM, it connects even very fast.
could the service provider block this service?
Ok , managed to get it working with GPRS now , the thing im experiencing is that somehow the MSN Mobile Sign in Service doesn't let you log on unless certain values are set and correct. It gave me messages about Time& Date , Personal Information and some more requests, when i had complied to all of these i was able to sign in through GPRS without trouble. next stop WIFI...
edit : apparantly the other posters are correct regarding the WIFI , once i had logged in througfh GPRs once nothing stopped me from logging onto MSN using WIFI.
Hmm. I had to sign up here for it to work: http://mobile.msn.com/
saldous -
did you have to pay the £10 ?
cos ....
If Pocket MSN was pre-installed on your device, you do not need to activate it in order to start using it. Just sign in on the device.

Agile Messsenger works ok for me but pocket msn wont sign in anymore
says Pockcet msn Sign-in Failed
any know another program like Agile Messsenger as I really need 2 of my msn's signed in when am out and about
Thanks

I believe I have a solution
hi every one, just got on this board....its great!
Now back to the issue msn messenger.
Paying to activate messenger? no need for that, it is already installed correctly, so in fact you already payed for it.
Now how to solve the problem: the problem mostly lies in your gprs settings: if you take a look at your gprs settings in your connections.
there should be a username and password installen (both are mostely your operator: so for instance if your operator is t-mobile, password and username are "t-mobile").
I know this sounds rediculous, because even if internet explorer works fine with the standard settings, for the protocol used by msn a password is needed.
Good luck!! it worked for me and many other users I know with a mda vario/ qtek 9100
Alex
finally i got it working !!
I've got it working, finally ........ there's no tweak at all, just you guys keep trying .....
Re: finally i got it working !!
Hmm
I'm having the same problem (TMO MDA Vario) - ships with msn messenger.
I've had it work once (when connected to my pc for activesync), but now it doesn't. Wifi, GPRS, nothing seems to work :-(.

t-mob uk web n walk question

dont know if this is right place to ask but, on http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/Dispatcher?menuid=plans_webnwalk says:
...Messaging over Internet Protocol is prohibited by T-Mobile

do they mean msn,icq etc? if yes i'll cancel my order and tell them stick it to somewhere
Yes, I beleive that is exactly right, MSN, ICQ etc etc are not allowed at the moment. Under my terms and conditions it says this is to provide a decent experience for other users.
I beleive its purpose is to make people use the sms and voice features of t-mobile, rather than the mainly free use of internet services instead. It is after all there intention to make money on you as a customer.
I *think* they also frown on using your device as a modem for your laptop or pc. Tho i may be wrong on that as they sell the laptop web'n'walk card, but thats on there PRO service.
how much data can a chat consume anyway, 500kb an hr? at most! bad thing is they might just close msn or icq ports on their network and thats it
i dont use to much of it but i wouldn;t like to be prevented from being able to use it
arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh  :x
Do they actually enforce it now?
From that, it looks like that is only on Web n' Walk Pro not the standard
from:
http://www.t-mobile.co.uk/Dispatche...RL=valuemobiles.at/OSD&P36=43XTB9&CID=0&CTY=8
Web ‘n’ Walk Professional is subject to a minimum term contract and credit check. Compatible handset or device required. To ensure a high quality of service for all our customers, a fair use policy applies. T-Mobile defines fair use as total UK data use (both sent and received) of up to 2GB per month. T-Mobile may contact customers who exceed this volume of data in two (or more) consecutive months in any six month period to ask them to reduce their usage. If usage is not reduced, notice may be given, after which network protection controls may be applied which will result in a reduced speed of transmission. Use of Voice over Internet Protocol and Messaging over Internet Protocol is prohibited by T-Mobile. If use of either or both of these services is detected T-Mobile may terminate all contracts with the customer and disconnect any SIM cards and/or web ‘n’ walk cards from the T-Mobile network.

seems strange they would ship the device with msn instaled if they didn't want you to use it...
maybe they are just reffering to skype and the such but got there terminogloy wrong...
best thing to do i would say is call them up and ask...
worst they can say is no your not allowed..

I think there may be a couple of reasons
1) By letting people use msn or skype you avoid using the networks features. The features t-mobile make money on and are in business for.
2) To see how the network performs with so many people on web'n'walk and payg users also having free access.
Maybe if they think there network is coping well with so many users they may remove this from there terms and conditions.
While breaking the t&c they can cancel your account, your more likely to get a letter asking you to stop it, and only if your causing a problem to other users or congestion to a cell tower.
I'm fairly certain that web'n'walk pro is the service used by laptop data cards, they have probably enabled restrictions here to stop heavy usage by laptops, I think the normal mobile services will be safe!
MSN on WnW
In my many calls to T-mobile customer services I have never hidden the fact that I wanted to connect to messenger, and I have never been informed that I cant.
My usage never goes over 2gb, so there is no need for them to look into my account in any depth, nor are there any means of definitively knowing if I am using Messenger anyway!
If you wish you can add the web n walk PRO bolt-on to your account for 9 pounds as opposed to 7.50 for the standard bolt-on. Though all it does is give you peace of mind if you wish to use you phone as a modem, and free access to T-mobile Hotspots.
There is no advantage to upgrading to pro in terms of network speed/usage allowance.
I have been using messenger since april with my web n walk bolt on and have had no issues whatsoever, so read into that what you will.

and just to back up what he said, ive been doing the same since april too!
they dont want you to use any IM not because of traffic, but because of lost revenue.
1 sms is around 10p.
1 sms is 160 bytes max.
1 megabyte is 1'048'576 bytes.
i.e. 1 megabyte carries more than 6500 sms
so: for transporting 1 megabyte of data, an operator has revenues of more than £650
imagine how terrified they are of you overloading their network (i.e. their megabyte trnasport facility if you will) and only give them a miserly £8 every month for it.
basically it is a disaster for them if you do more IM and less sms. Hence the T&C's that say they can boot you from their net if you do that (i dont think they will, but their contract gives them option should they choose).
they are living in never never land if they think they can sustain this for any period of time.
well not sure about msgr but real media streaming banned by t-mobile
OK just to clear this matter up.
The MDA VarioII Does NOT support MSN messenger or windows Live Messenger on T-mobile web n walk.
This is a big shortfall in my opinion. It doesn't even allow messenger to run even when the radio is turned off and you have USB or wifi connection!
hence the blocking might not be on the 'T-mobile network' but within the registry of the device!
Anyone got any workarounds/ideas on overcoming this?
BTW: Skype™ for Pocket PC works fine!

only have a vario 1 myself but on t- mobile and have been using the msm features since 1st april when web and walk £7.50 option became available
I have got an MDA Vario II which I purchased direct from T-Mobile via their Website a couple of weeks back on one of their Web'n'Walk tarriffs. MS Messenger was pre-installed on it and I have had no problems logging on and chatting. Surely if they don't want you to use Messenger, they wouldn't include it in the software bundle.
I don't see any problem using it as long as I use it fairly and make sure I don't exceed their fair use limits.

Not only was it installed on my Vario II, the t-mobile customized manual actually tells you how to set it up. I did query this on a number of occasions and the responce I got was always the same, IMing is not allowed on either web'n'walk or web'n'walk pro.
I have a T-Mobile MDA Vario II, which came pre-installed with Mobile messenger. I installed live messenger mobile, and it worked fine, as it did on my MDA Pro until Microsoft threw a spanner in the works. Messenger is NOT blocked on the Vario II - that is total Bo***cks.
We are all suffering the same problem. I just hope hey bring out the new CAB soon because Agile is just soooooo rubbish in comparison.
I'm waiting with baited breath.
Which programs run?
Hi guys,
sorry for reactivating this old thread. However, I was just wondering if some of the T-Mob UK WnW users could tell me which communication programs they can use without trouble. I experience the following situation:
1.) Live Messenger runs without any problem
2.) Can't get ICQ to work
3.) Skype is possible, though text chat with Skype is not
4.) Couldn't get Fring to work
Can someone please confirm these? Additionally, I'd like to hear whether or not someone managed to use VoIP with the standard WnW bolt on.
N.B.: Don't want to stirr up the "legal" discussion, just want to talk about the technical aspects...

HTC TyTN - Replace your blackberry!

I'll admit, I take a lot of good info from these boards and am usually far too busy to post. But this time I feel I have something great to share.
I bought a TyTN the other day...got here Wednesday. I was sick so I didn't start to play much with it until today.
Let me just set the tone here: I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO GET AROUND MY CORPORATE IT DEPARTMENT FOR YEARS. FIRST I GOT MY SPRINT TREO TO GET BLACKBERRY EMAILS, BUT NOT TRUE PUSH...THEN I GAVE UP FOR A WHILE AND USED A SPRINT 7250...but BB's are A WASTE, LESS FUNCTIONAL, and just a POOR CHOICE for today's mobile professional.
Now I have found today: The HTC TyTN can VERY EASILY be made into a corporate BES-connected Blackberry if you so desire, and conencted to YOUR CURRENT corporate BES account, without their intervention! I have done this with my Sprint 7250 BB account, and done it back and forth all day from T-mo to Cingular (Cingular wins out because of 3G of course...gotta have good slingbox when I can!)
All you need is a 'blackberry enabled SIM card' (really, just add the unlimited BES ENABLED (NOT THE "PERSONAL") blackberry plan to T-mo or Cingular) and a corporate BES account (that you haven't been able to touch for years, LOCKING you to a USELESS paperweight of a dumb-phone!) I know some others were lucky enough to have a Cingular SIM card in their corporate BB already and this wasn't a big deal. But I was not and I see many other are having trouble starting out with with non-Cingular blackberry devices. So check out how I ended up getting my way, finally after 4 years!
0) Insert (or go buy) a personal, non-blackberry-enabled Cingular (3G) SIM card. You should be able to surf for UMTS/HSDPA data and all that...
1) Install BBConnectr_PocketPC_BB_2.1.2.16 on the HTC TyTN.
2) Install Activesync2.1.1.9 for mobile on the desktop.
3) Connect the HTC to the computer via USB, then open PC's Activesync 2.1.1.9. You will be asked if you want to change your PIN -- say YES! (you can always go back. Remember, it DOES NOT MATTER what service your BB is CURRENTLY through...we are going to make it through Cingular for you here in a second!)
4) Call Cingular and have them add the unlimited $49.95 blackberry plan, assumedly on top of your unlimited data plan. While I was willing to pay $145 a month to have everything in one device, just to spite my corporate IT department, here's the catch: They will come back and say you can't have both! Take the Unlimited blackberry plan (which will allow the PocketPC BB Connect software you installed to get through Cingular's network to "blackberry.net" So Instead of $40 for unlimited data, $10 more is getting my (and i have tested it) 3G data and blackberry.net access!
From there, you should be good like me.
I'm still figuring out the nuances, like how to minimize down-time after web surfing for BB connect to get back 'connected' again. I suspect in an all-3G area (in which i am NOT), this may not be an issue.
I have placed the updated, verified as working (on both T-mo and Cingular) versions of Activesync2.1.1.9 and BBConnect_PocketPC_BB_2.1.2.16 in the "upload" directory of the web site. (as well as the 2.1 manual) That is /Hermes/Tools_and_Programs. Hopefully it gets moved over soon.
Keep on rocking everyone -- we are forging new capabilities together that make our lives easier, more fun, and more convenient!
Love and bruises,
Greg
It's your IT group that's at fault btw... I'm the technology guy for our IT group and we're getting rid of the BES and switching to direct push instead. Why? Tell your IT dept this: a BES places a 50% higher IO load on your Exchange server . This is because it must scan all blackberry enabled mailboxes every second or so looking for changes!
Now that devices like the Q have the MSFP, our execs have a nice alternative to their 8700s.
I've also installed LCS 2K5 with an Access Proxy and we are now all moving to Mobile Communicator for IM. This is a great little program that also gateways to AIM and Yahoo.
I believe IT should empower their users with technology, not be a bunch of Nazis.....

even though this doesnt belong in this forum i figured you guys would know. do cingular blackberrys (the 8700) work on the new 3g network? and can u install AIM (a version that does not use text messages)?
Just tested TyTN with BIS and BES solutions, all works fine!!!
Messages are coming through UMTS channel where UMTS signal is available!
When you get an email via BES, can you read the attachments though?
does it also wirelessly sync your calendar and contacts with BES?
I seem to have it all working but when I restart the tytn, the blackberry service doesn't connect. The config program says 'no connection' (although it was fine right after I installed) Has anyone else seen this and got round it?
Quick config question on BBConnect...
For all those that have this successfully working on a TyTN - did you have to tweak any connection settings on the PPC ?
I've installed BBConnect (2.1.2.16) onto the PPC and BBDesktop (2.1.1.18) onto the PC. Used Activesync and got all my calendar entries over. Now when I come to have the BBC connect wirelessly, it fails to connect and eventually goes into 'Suspended by User' state.
I played around and defined a connection called 'Blackberry' with all the settings 'blackberry.net, rim, password etc..) and can now actually get it to Connect successfully...
The issue now is that no email flows.... in fact nothing flows at all and I can't send a message as it indicates it's a 'malformed message'.
Any ideas ?
I've had Cingular confirm that my data account is set up for 'BlackBerry Connect Unlimited'...
I never had a blackberry before so I'm into new territory here...
Any advice on how to get this working ?
Cheers
Dave
Does anybody knows which is the correct cingular blackberry plan for USA??????
Since some of you appear to have gotten Blackberry Connect working with Cingular on a mobile device I'm hoping you can give me some useful information. I have the service in place from Cingular, and have the understanding that with Blackberry Connect from Cingular I need no other data plan from them. It will cover all of my other data services. This part seems to be working fine. What's not working is the Blackberry Connect software itself. It always gives me "Blocked - Radio In Use". I am wondering if it is because I have a connection set up for "MY ISP" based on Cingulars default installation. If it's supposed to be using Blackberry Connect for data, should I be deleting the MY ISP configuration? Could that be what's keeping the radio in use? I would assume the only thing using the radio should be the Blackberry Connect service since that's the only plan I have.
Help?
Thanks
I get a message that the program cannot determine the type of network and to ensure the radio is on when I try to run Blackberry Connect for Pocket PC on my unlocked HP hw6945. It installed fine from the hosted exe file.
My theory is that the problem is the program is looking for the phone's frequency/band settings in WM5. The HP hides these as it features an automatic band/frequency transition radio. Does anyone know how to unhide WM5's menu and settings for the phone band/frequency?
BTW I have a new 64k Cingular smartcard sim with Blackberry Connect service (verified working with my Blackberry 7100t unlocked).
Hi all !
Was anybody able to run BlackBerry Connect on Cingular 1.31 ROM ?
It was run without any problems for me on 1.34, but does not work on 1.31.
Anybody else with the same problem ?
Regards,
baudy2
I followed HTC TyTN - Replace your blackberry instructions and software installs fine on Cingular 8525. I received system book from BES, but after the 8525 connects, a few minutes latter the Blackberry goes to "Suspended by user" and email is never received. Does anything else need to be setup, ie a different connection in the network connections on the device?
Thanks

The Calendar and Contacts works fine!! You need to find the contacts....its the same of BBconnect for Nokia.
But you cant view all the attachments, only excel, word.....
Not read .jpg .mp3 and more.
HP6945 update
I happened to go overseas last week and while there and roaming on O2 I was able to get past the second screen and get the BB Connect to start. However, it would not generate the PIN (status: "pending"). Hoping that once past that obstacle once back on Cingular US I could get further, but no joy.
Right now I'm trying the Xpress Mail product which pushes and syncs calendar and email via a redirector; it seems to be finicky though.

Blackberry Vario II

Hello Guys,
Maybe someone can help me.
I got a MDA Vario II on T-Mobile that was delivered this morning (had hundreds yesterday she said, incase anyone is looking). On the Applications CD in the box is the Blackberry Connect software. I installed the software onto the Vario. I already have a blackberry account and went into my account (on my computer) and changed the PIN associated with my account. On the handset in the Instant Email option it says connected but it isn't recieveing any emails. I have clicked on the register button in the instant email option screen, I have sent myself a new service book but it still isn't working. I have even done a hard reset and started again but to no avail.
In the messenger section it has a instant email mailbox but there is nothing in it and the 3 logo at the top says Blackberry (GPRS, 3G) but still nothing.
Does anyone know what is wrong?
Thanks.
Well I figured it out.
I basically set up a whole new Blackberry account and that seemed to solve it. But a new problem is that it only lets you have 4 accounts which is less than before and the pages are completly different than before.
Hi hourami
Good to know you got it working. I got real excited about this, but seem to be having problmes to get it to work. Device and PC are connected fine. I have a PIN created and everything.
I called T-Mobile and they wanted £35 a month to activate Blackberry on my account! This seems very strange to me, as I have Web n Walk.
I have 2 questions for you -
1. What price plan are you on, and how did you get Blackberry activated for your SIM?
2. you say that
"I basically set up a whole new Blackberry account and that seemed to solve it."
How did you do that?
Hope you can help
Cheers

Hi Eric,
1) I pay £10 per month for Blackberry, it is a fixed price and is shown as such on their website and by calling customer services.
2) At http://www.instantemail.t-mobile.co.uk/ you set up an account and put in the pin and imei number and then set up your email accounts, all self explanitory when you go through the screens. You won't get ANY emails though until Blackberry is activated on your account.
Hope this helps.
Soran
Thanks for the quick reply. I'll give it a go and let you know how I get on. Cheers

T-mobile UK ICQ problem

Hy guys
I'm looking for advice or possible solution.
Just Upgraded to Web'n'Walk Plus, that officialy allows you to use Instant messaging. Yes, MSN connected with no questions asked, same happened with skype and fring. BUT!!! No ICQ. Tryed couple of different clients, different settings (including ones with proxy) - nothing, just "error connecting".
All the same setup works using Wi-Fi. T-mobile is in their normal mode - "I don't have information on the system...
Device: HTC P3600
ROM: 02.10.00 WWE.
Had the same problem on Official 1.23 ROM and all MUN's and LVSW's Roms.
Any ideas???
Im still waiting my next pay cycle until wnw+ is working for me on irc etc...
has that passed yet for you?

Yep, but they told me on the phone, that change will be instant or within 24 hours and I had it for 2 weeks now.
They also charged me some money for that already...
BTW, they didn't block any ports anyway, because I've tried it as a modem for my laptop and it worked fine... ICQ was fine on laptop even before WNW+
