But if I do a hard resest it seems to work and this is a pain cause the only way I can fix is bty hard reset. i have also tried the beta of activesync. older versions and this doesnot help, I have tried assign an IP in the network card section to everything that can excpet an IP and that didn't work also.??

I bought myself a a qtek S100 a few weeks ago and it's been working fine up until today
Today I sended a file via Bt from my Nokia smart phone to the Qtek so that I could dowload it to the computer faster via USB cable. The file was 764k real player video. Anyway after the transfer ended the Qtek started acting funny...is started by geting slow and slower and slower ... the cable was already pluged and the connection set so I tryed to acess it via PC...no sucess.
I unpluged and did a reset, thought that would solve the problem...
When I tryed to sync after the reset it showed an error message on the PC saying "Critical Communications Services have failed to start. Try reseting the mobile device and start again" Well I did...and also dowloaded MS Active Sync 3.8 and instaled it again.
The outcome was still the same...."Critical Communications Services have failed to start. Try reseting the mobile device and start again"
Anyone ever experienced this? How can I solve this?
Eheheh go easy on me kinda noobish here

Here's the follow up just in case anyone will have the same problem...
As it turns out the problem wasn't in the Pocket Pc...although the error message in windows (Pc) asked for a reset of the PP, the problem was actually in PC. It seems that somehow the Antivirus (Bitdefender with integrated firewall) started detecting the usb cable connection with the PDA as an internet connection, and althought I had authorised it the High level of security imposed by the Firewll and it's rules on the Pc enabled the connection but disabled any kind of exchange between the computer and the PDA. Well to put it plain and simple...active sync would start and everything went smoothly up until trying to open the pocket PC for file browsing...then the antivirus would kick in and wouldn't allow data tranfer as it would consider it harmfull for the computer...hence the error message.
ehehe Problem solved ...hope this helps the next one that has the same prob.
I've tried about one gazillion suggestions to make Activesync work over USB on my Qtek 9100, and I've given up. I went for BT connections, which works fine.
However, RUU doesnt work over a BT connection (i get to the multicolor boot screen, and, of course lose the BT that would allow the update to finish...).
Is there a way to do it via the SD card, and, if so, can somebody get me the SD image for the latest french version ?
Thanks all.
What is the problem with your USB ActiveSync?
I thought I was going to go crazy trying to sort out mine, because it would just hang on "Trying to obtain address" (=DHCP) when I connected.
In short, the problem turned out to be having the DHCP service at "Manual" (go to Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services). I resolved it by choosing "Automatic" for starting the DHCP service. If it's not set at "Automatic" for the start type,
ActiveSync won't recognize the device because the background method of connection for ActiveSync involves the PDA acting as a DHCP server and your computer receiving an arbitary IP address in order to communicate with the PDA.
Thanks for the suggestion, but its one of the many things I tried... to no avail.
So, back to my original Q, is there a way via the SD card ?
i've read that there is a prog. to specially format the sd card, and include the rom extracted from the .exe... please help me, I can't find the reference.
Use bootloader
If you put your Universal into bootloader mode as documented here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37432 then you can connect to your PC over USB without Activesync and run the appropriate upgrade program.
Although I have Activesync working over USB intermittently I found this the surest way to upgrade.
Hope this helps!
excellent !!
Activesync doesnt work, but the RUU does !!
Thank you very much
i cnt seem to be able to connect via activesync for some strange reason. It has been working fine but since yesterday when i connect my mda it just keeps saying "connecting".
Anyone got any ideas on how to sort this......i want it to work so i can flash my mda with wm6 or a different rom.
thanks in advance...
Try to switch the connection (bluetooth / IR / USB)
i would but i want to flash my mda and it cannot be done unless synced via usb
Since you are going to flash it, backup your phone and do a hardreset and try again?
I have a same problem. I connect my Charmer to my notebook and it work fine. When I connect my desktop the Charmer can't connect.
I found the problem. The Charmer try to request an IP address for the DHCP server but the firewall block the request.

Hello together,
I have problems to connect my PDA via Active Sync. The computer trys to connect, but the connection failes. I happens on my computer at work and at home.
So if I reinstall the pda with factory settings it works again.
But why?
Someone knows this problem?
I use the newst AS with XP and already tried to reinstall the software and configured the USB to PC connection settings at my device.
The only way to connect the PDA again via AS is a hardreset on my device.
I have this problem all two or three months.
Best regards Karl
Hi,
I'm trying to install hard-spl to flash my TC with wm6.5 rom that I have made with kitchen available here.
Problem: ActiveSync connection is ok, I can sync, explore etc. But when I run ROMupdateutility.exe it gives connection error 202.
I don't see any security messages about running enterbootloader.exe or anything else either which is weird, just this 202.
I have tried to change phone's "enable advance network functionality" setting, no luck.
I have 2 pc's with WinXP, other one has no internet connection, firewall or anti-virus software, getting exactly the same result with both pc's.
I have tried different usb cable, port, many many soft resets...
There's Symantec SmartPhone Security on the phone, I have disabled the auto-protect, but no luck.
Any ideas???
ERROR [202, 204] : CONNECTION
This error message will appear when the device is not connected to ActiveSync correctly. Make sure you properly connect the device to the PC through ActiveSync before running RUU.
Have you tried a hard reset make a backup first as it removes all apps installed and data 'phone numbers text's', I think with Symantec SmartPhone Security removed as long as activesync works it should be ok.
Hi, hard reset seems to be the last way to try. I have read this forum 2 nights now and not found any other ideas :-(
Running wm6.5
Hard reset might be THE solution for many people I think.
