I have an o2 Exec and frequently have the problem that the screen goes white and I can't see anything. It tends to happen either when I reopen phone after making or receiving a call (I always have the screen facing in when taking or making calls), or when I open the screen to check a message. I get the feeling that it is linked to the phone app. Its done it since I had the phone, and upgrading the firmware hasn't affected it.
I have found that the best way to get it back is to remove the power and put it back in, or just connect it to power. but sometimes i can spend 10 minutes messing around before it comes back.
Has anyone else had this problem, or know what might be causing it? I don't have any extra software installed other than what it comes with.
Try using it without an SD card for a few days, my Wife had the same problem in her Wizard, turns out if she removes the SD card fault goes away. Regards
cpu
it happens to me with cpuxcsalar installed, removed it, all back in business.
do you have this soft installed?
Rip, I don't have any extra software installed which is what makes it so strange. Gooroo, yes I have a 1Gb SD card in, I'll see how I go with out it for a while. Its certainly something I never thought of. Its a big let down though if that is the culprit.
I'll update this after I've done some testing.
Thanks
I hope your SD is under warranty still, mind you they are getting really cheap now anyway. We only discovered the fault after getting the wifes wizard changed under warranty and then finding exactly the same problem with the new one too. Seemed to happen after the device had gone to sleep on its own, then when waking it up she would get a white screen. Most of the time it was battery out to get it back working again. If she pressed the power button to put it to sleep and then woke it up again it worked fine, and if she let the screen go off and then brought it back again before it had gone to suspend it was fine too. Really weird.
Anyway let us know how you get on
Well I've been running for a few days without my SDcard installed and I'm still getting the same problem. It seems to be definitely linked to the phone app. I usually have the Exec open on my desk, then if I make a call and close the lid to use it like a normal phone, when I open it again the screen is white. Normally, connecting the power, then disconecting it again kicks it back into life.
Very strange!
Sounds like you need a replacement under warranty. You have tried the latest rom, you are running next to nothing in the way of additional applications and you have removed your SD card. I guess you can only try a hardware reset to see if the problem is still there, as O2 are going to ask you to do it anyway. If that fails to sort it get it replaced under warranty.
Ok, it's tarted 2 days ago, suddenly my new exec screen going to blue (Like PC)??? just blue color (Sometimes white and black stripes) and hung, so I just restart it. But today, is terrible, its happend 6 times. Tonight the worst thing happend, blue screen come again but this time with soft reset, not help at all. Every time I soft reset the splash screen comes, and then that blue screen again. It happend about 5 times, the machine finally start but can't read my sd card and I try to do soft reset but screen goes and never come back. My exec didn't start at all. I tried to release the battery, leave for few minutes and put it back try to start it, nothing happend... now my exec has die.
Anyone please help me and advice please,
What I did just cook ext ROM (So it have autoconfig for my country's operator, and upgrade the radio to 1.14.10 from T-Mobile, like I did to my alpine but it have no problem until I sold it)
Whoa... help me bro...
Thanks in advanced
Finally it's start but never reach windows screen, the blue screen appears again.
And I remember, the strange thing, my IMEI that I read from device properties is: 355195002465655
But, the IMEI at back body,(Under the battery) : 355195000360361
Why?And what happen?
guess u have the same probs as some others

oops:
saw u r already i that post.......
OK, I've got the same problems as you did. I was so upset with the device that I hit it on my lap (with the battery clip side hitting my lap) and then put the battery back on. Then it turned on! So everytime I have this problem I just hit the battery clip side and it turns on like 70 percent of the time. I just realized the SD card is on that side...hmmm..must be something to do with SD. I'm pretty sure someday it would just stop working at all if I keep doing this.
I don't advise anyone doing this but so far it works for me. I still have problems waking it up though. I really think the mainboard is messed up so I'm trying to get a mainboard, even a broken miniusb mainboard just to test it out. I opened mine up to the last screw and no loose connections noted. So if anyone has a mainboard then can sell me PM me.
If you still have warranty on the device, I advise you to send it in for warranty repair. It seems to only get worst and not better. Goodluck, hopefully we can find a solution for this. If I do get a mainboard. I'll let you know if that fixed it.
Hmm, I've guess it, I think the pprob is mainboard. I'll send it for warranty, (But I bought it in other city not in my own city) So i'll have to send it then on friday this week i'll go to that store to check arround and maybe choose the best product. I'll give the update then.
Anyway someone can give a advice to choose the mainboard?
Thanks in advanced.
bump..we need help..Is it a mainboard or coaxial cable problem? Please advise..
OK, Problem found.. Thanks Corneluis...It is a problem with the voltage control on the mainboard! Anybody has a workaround for this?
SOLUTION FOUND!!! At least for my Jasjar. Thanks, cornelius about the info on faulty voltage control which causes the Bulverde CPU to hang and give funny lines and colors to the screen. The solution is to install Pocket Hack Master and disable the Device CPU scaling in settings and set the speed to 312mhz for standby and before you turn it off. Now you can always clock it to 520 when needed but before you turn it off or close the screen make sure the speed is only 312mhz.
This has worked for me for more than 24 hours without any sngle hang.
I have just got the HD2 and been using it for a few weeks. Downloaded a few apps (eg HTC rom, BSB tweeks) and all is good. Saw Max Manila and looked like a great idea - checked my manila version 2.5.19211619.0 and downloaded 2.7 SE (checked it's right for my manila) loaded onto phone and it crashed after soft reset. Took battery out and phone doesn't go past first screen (with the red writing bottom left) - Hard reset is the same and now I'm worried!
Any ideas???
sad to say yy sounds like hard reset time.
power off, hold volume up and volume down, tap power keeping volume up and down pressed til the screen comes on and follow the prompts.
it will reset your phone to factory defaults.
never used max manila so I cant help with what the problem might be, but if there is a developers thread for it you might be better asking there.
Thanks for replying samsamuel - I've tried the hard reset and it doesn't work!
Even when I do as you say, I get the white start screen with htc written on it and then several red lines at the bottom right starting R G and D and that's it! It just stay's like that - At this moment I'd pray for a hard reset!!
I'm going to try booting from the sd card but I'm not sure I can get the phone to go into the bootable mode. I've downloaded the HTC rom and extracted the nmh so we'll see.
if your phone is provider locked then that will not work.you need the rom that came on your phone. so if was from uk o2 then you need the o2 uk rom, otherwise it wont work.
No luck! Whilst I've got everything to sort the phone out it won't do anything but load the white first screen no matter which buttons I hold down.
Man this sucks!
Guess there's nothing for it except the bin unless anyone else has any other ideas??
can you get into boot loader?
press and hold vol down(not up this time, just down) tap and release power, keep vol down held. should boot to striped cultures colored screen.
if you can what does it say next to SPL?
Hi Samsamual
Thanks for helping but no, won't go into bootloader either - doesn't respond to any input (even when I conect the usb the charge led doesn't come on!) and just starts with the white screen with the HTC logo and then the red writting appears and it just hangs - left it for 5 mins just to be sure and no change
Looks like I've really messed it up although I have no idea what I did wrong - instal went just like the other things I installed.
Ahh shame. All i can suggest is the original rom sd card method. But it MUST be the propper rom that came on your phone, so if you got it from vodaphone, , , even if it is unlocked, you must use the voda rom.
Also, have a really good read through the pages in teh rom development section. If you can find someone with the exact same issue, you could be one step closer to fixing it.

When you tried the SD card method did you use a 2GB SD card and was it formatted to FAT32?
WB
Have you tried a boot (all combinations!) without the sd card installed?
Hoss and WB - thanks for the comments
Hoss, I've held the volume buttons for over a minute after powering on - no change
WB, I can't get the phone to go into boot loader screen but thanks for the info for the future. Next time I'll see if I can copy the original rom just in case.
Resigned myself to having a new paper weight on my desk and looking for a new phone - Guess I won't be putting so many programs on my new one....
PA - Thanks for the advice - Yes tried with sd card in/out sim in/out bootloader, hard reset, soft reset and always the same.
In your posts you do not mention where you bought your HD2, and I do not know what country you are in.
From what I have read, it seems that you did not flash any ROMs, nor change your SPL, so if I were you, at this point, rather than accepting a bricked paperweight, why not explore your warranty possibilities?
Contact the place you bought the HD2 (the dealer) and explore your options. Since I do not know which country you are in I will not suggest an HTC service center, but if your country has such a center, at last resort, you might check out that possibility.
Since you apparently had no hardware problems before the manila incident, it would seem that it is a software glitch somehwere.
Good luck with all of this. It must be almost heartbreaking to have this happen with such beautiful hardware.

What's most annoying is it wasn't as if I was doing anything crazy! Max manila is used by many people (from what I've seen in the threads) and I guess I downloaded the wrong one (although naturally I checked and it's the right one). Certainly will curb my using of 3rd party software! As for the warranty, you're right, I can try and see if it can be fixed (bizarrely, that hadn't occured to me - I thought that with no resets working HTC couldn't do anything). Thanks for the tip and I'll let you know how I get on.
Surely your warranty will cover this. Yes, let me (and us) know how all of this goes. You will get your phone back to what you deserve, for sure!
I had the same issue.
Sent mine to HTC and got it back with the comment "Cannot reproduce"
Probably it solved itself when the battery was removed for a couple of days in the mail.
It has now been working for two weeks again.
Fingers crossed.

Experential nut I may be, but just wondering if you had the problem after you installed the MAx manila? I wonder now what versions of OS may be causing this problem.
i had something like this with my HTC Diamond... It stopped responding completely when turned on, didn't respond to the usb cable being plugged in (the round ring used to illuminate when charging)
I took the battery out, for about 30 minutes... then left it charging for another 30 minutes - booted up straight away and never did anything like that again
Worth a shot just leaving it without power for awhile, and then just recharging it
Like watnuweer mentioned, "cannot reproduce" probably fixed itself by not having the battery left in for awhile

This is getting more interesting, what do you suppose is the cure of taking out the battery, and then charging? I do not doubt your experience, I am just extremely curious if anyone can explain this phenomena.
I updated my phone (HD2 T-mobile) via internet website and when I finished the updating process, the phone did not work at all.
I tried more than once to switch it on, but it didn't respond. I took the battery out and put it in again, but nothing happened.
When I connect the phone with the charger, the charger light doesn't become on.
It seems that the phone is dead!!!. What do you suggest to solve this problem? If you think it is a hardware problem, what is the name of this hardware

Take a look at the battery pins. If thy look Okay and even then you can't power on your device, contact HTC service.

Like Kurt already said, look at battery pins, but also clean battery contacts (wipe them clean with a clean, soft cloth)! Meanwhile take your SD card out in insert into PC. I do not know which ROM you have on your phone, but extract the RUU.....exe file to your desktop. There will then be a file called Custom_RUUsigned.nbh. Rename that to leoimg.nbh and copy to the root of your SD card. Reinsert SD Card into device and reinsert the battery. Try first if device will switch on. If not, take battery out again for 10-15 mins and reinsert, then press and hold vol down key and then press shortly the on/off button. If this works, you will enter bootloader screen and the ROM will be automatically installed into your device. Alas this also means that you lost all off your data on the device (hope you have a recent backup!). If this also doesn't work, try another battery. If that also does not work, send in for repair.
good luck and regards, Kuzibri
It's rather remarkable: you're HD2 died - as you state it - and you do not react to a possible solution for this problem! Or was the reply of Kurt enough to send it to HTC service? I had this problem numerous of times amd was able to revive it also all these times with the procedure I suggested to you.
If Kurt's reaction, which is of course right and logical, was enough to send it to repair, I really do not mind that and understand it, but it would be nice to get a response from you about what you did with your device, certainly when someone spends time and energy to try to solve your problem. Might also be possible that you're just away/not around and not available to answer. In this case, just forget this message or see it as not send.
regards, Kuzibri
Tried to use the search function, but got nothing, so make a new thread.
1. need to check my phone's sim lock status. I don't have a sim from other carriers in hand. Thinking maybe there are some 'Secret Codes' like (*#06#, *#*#4636#*#*), to check my phone's sim lock status.
2. Is there any way to reset the phone without opening the back cover? I know we can reset the phone by removing the battery or pushing the reset button...
But....... I am using a TPU phone case, if i need to open the back metal cover, I will need to take off the TPU cover first. As you konw, that TPU thing is really too fit too tight to be removed (using my phone a lot to play games, it dies occasionally)
Thanks!

can't suggest anything for question 1, maybe someone else will come along and provide some answers.
regarding question 2, the following works sometimes on the android build i am using currently (XxXPachaXxX's GBLeo Sense, details in signature):
1. when you feel like rebooting, hold down both volume buttons
2. keep holding down both the volume buttons
3. tap the power button and keep holding the volume buttons
4. this key combination is used for a hard-reset i believe. so in case the phone reboots into the hard-reset screen, just cancel out of it and let the phone reboot normally!
i currently have another HD2 (a friend's) that has WM6.5 on it (some version of NRGZ's Energy ROM Series). i just tried the above process on it 3-4 times but it did NOT work.
it might not work on other android builds either. but i know for a FACT that it works on the one i have currently...i do it almost every day! the ROM suffers from a problem in which the screen refuses to wake up (but the device keeps running because it rings, you can't see who is calling, and you can answer it, and have a full conversation!). this happens randomly about once every 1-2 days. and the above mentioned trick works every single time for me when my device is in that particular state.
so to summarize, the trick doesn't seem to work on WM6.5. it might work in some/all android builds. it might only work on android when the device is in some kind of "stuck" state.
Your reset method works. Thanks! I don't have to take off the TPU case just for a simple reset now.
The combination will lead to the hard reset screen as you described, and can be cancel by simply pressing the 'back' key.
Running the HyperDroid android rom, have no chance to test wm6.5 yet. But now it works. Thanks!!
