New Vario II - Recommended Tweaks? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

Ok, so finally my Vario II has turned up but I have seen many tweaks that have been on the forum over the last couple of months.
What are the best ones to go for?

MDA Compact II @ clselectronicstore.co.uk

I came across this website checking for christmas goodies and to my suprise!! they are selling the MDA Compact II http://www.clselectronicstore.co.uk/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=663. Their description states that it has wifi and WM5, is this for real? If it is I would really like to buy this device
Seen at Scancom also
Noticed on the Scancom website these devices were imminent.
I purchased my original MDA from them.
That MDA Compact II is called the HTC Charmer. It's basically the same device that we have but with a TI OMAP processor 200Mhz, WM5, 128MB and WiFi.
If you're willing to wait a bit more, there will soon be the HTC Prophet that has all these upgrades PLUS a 2 MP Camera with camera, Bluetooth ver 2.0, EDGE support, and is also Quad Band.
The HTC Prophet is already available on request here:
http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=128025
As far as I am aware, the MDA compact II is wifi compatible (SDIO chip as does its predecessor), but does not have built in wifi, I could be wrong, anyway ordered one from t-mobile yesterday and should be getting delivery on monday when I will be able to confirm this issue.

Confused?
Hi there,
Just checked the clselectronicstore website and it claims the charmer has 128Mb ram and built in WIFI... This conflicts some other claims that it doesnt....
Which is true????
Hi,
I have a T-Mobile MDA Compact II and can confirm that is does not have built in wifi.
Hope this helps
Performance MDA compact II versus HTC Magican
Can anyone report how the performance of this two compare.
Because the new one has only 200MHz CPU but it should work
more efficient
Thanks in advance

By looking at the review of Wizard and others using the same 200mhz CPU. It proves it is not a good CPU choice. (Just look at how many complaint from Skype user and U will know what I mean)
This looks much like Magician to me, apart from the processor.
Wondering if the Charmer's 5.0 rom works on plain Magician??
Watch out!

Hott-Ice Boy is the owner of the www.clselectronicstore.com and www.clselectronicstore.co.uk sites and is a scammer.
DONT BUY FROM THIS SITE!
See http://www.who.is/whois-com/ip-address/clselectronicstore.com/ to confirm this guy is Calferni Simpson of 3 Windley Close, Forest Hill London.
Then look at http://www.vibesconnect.com/KaLz and http://www.face-pic.com/pages/view_profile.php?user=hottice_boy&1=1210926
And you'll see "Kalz", "Hott-Ice Boy" and Calferni Simpson are one and the same.
If you look at http://www.busytrade.com/company/companyInfo.php?memberid=hotticeboy&cTYPE you'll see he also called himself "Simpsons Entertainment" in 2004 (also posted under the hotticeboy alias.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

tytn for sale..

hey everyone.. i posted about a week ago my tytn was for sale.. i threw it up oin ebay if anyones still interested
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...20029197853&rd=1&sspagename=STRK:MESE:IT&rd=1
thanks
why do you sell?
Please allow this question: Why do you sell your TyTn already?
I am about to buy one, but if I read through this forum, all I can see is problems and complaints.
I once had the MDA compact, which was really good. Then I changed to the Vario, which was in some cases not as good as the compact.
Now, that my Vario got stolen, I am looking for the successor, but unfortunately I can not find so many positive posts here.
So if your reason to sell is your disappointment about the device, please share and let me know.
Thanks and regards,
A. Rossband
the vario II is the best PDA Phone I've ever had. I have owned an MDA Compact, vario, and an MDA pro.
I await a firmware upgrade to fix a few video playback issues, and the camera is still wishy washy at best; but as a web browser and as a phone it is simply a pleasure to use. I'm very happy with the battery life too.
I have no issues with this phone that won't be resolved with future updates, and even these don't particularly bother me now.
I truly believe that this is the best HTC phone available at the moment.
Hello aro,
I have my TyTN for about a week now and I love it.
Before buying it I also read a lot in the forum and got a bit scared especially about the screen alignment (and some other) problems which IMHO seems to be hardware related issues.
Anyway I still decided to buy the device and take the risk of having it replaced.
I tried most of the available ROMs and ended up with the iMate (JasJam I think) ROM which for me is very fast and stable.
IMHO all the negative reports here are for two reasons:
1. It is a quite new device so some initial problems are unevitable.
2. One of the main purposes of forums like this is to discuss problems so of course it is full of them. I think/hope there are a lot of ppl like me out there very happy with their TyTN but not posting about it on the forum.
So my conlusion is this. If you are willing to take the risk about the hardware issues meaning you may have to get a replacement if you are unlucky (I tried to figure out how common these problems really are - see point 2 - but without satisfying results) and if you don't mind some initial software flaws then go for it.
IMHO it is a great device and well worth the money.
Otherwise wait a couple of months to be on the safe side.
I hope this helps you in your decision process and maybe a few other happy TyTN users like myself can post here, too
Kind regards,
Uli
P.S. I had a Magician before and although I was very satisfied with it, it is nothing compared with the TyTN
Yes, totally agree with hukoeth... another happy Hermes user here!

What am I missing?

I have my MDA C3 for about 3 weeks now. I have unlocked it and already bricked it once. Thanks to this forum I got it back to live flashing with the original T-Mobile UK Rom.
Reading this forum I am in big doubts wheter I should do anything with it or not. Lot's of problems with memory card and bricked devices, several versions of roms that I don't know what the differences are.
I used to flash my XDA Exec very often and ended with Crossbow on it. There were visible improvements in each rom version. In regards to the MDA C3 I have to admit that my XDA has never been so fast and reliable as the MDA. Now I am asking myslef why did I try to flash MDA if I had no problems with it? I guess it's only that when it comes to M$ there is always something to improve.
Now I'm happy having MDA working as before. No hangs, no SD problem (so far), quick in almost any task. Basically I am a bit frightened to touch it again (mean flashing). And my question is what am I missing really? Would be very appreciated knowing what you think.

TyTN vs Zinc - help me choose??

Hi Folks,
I need a bit of help choosing my next PDA, I've had loads of pocketPC, windows mobile devices inc. HP Jornada 548, Tosh 540, Dell X5, iPAQ hx4700 but this will be my first forage into "convergance" devices.
I was originaly tempted to upgrade my phone to the Orange UK version of the HTC TyTN but i'm now getting cold feed with all this talk of new devices due out, I know there are always newer and better just around the corner but I don't want to jump into a 12 month contract just to find a newer and better unit being available next week.
My dilema is this.....after seeing the specs for the O2 Zinc with the Xscale 520Mhz processor and seeing the benchmarks against the TyTN I'm now more inclinded to wait the for the release of this Zinc (26th March 07), however on my travels through the tinternet I have stumbled upon what I would consider my ideal device...the HTC Kaiser, does anybody have any ideas which network will be carring this device and when it will be released????
I'm fairly sure the overwelling opinion on the site will be for the TyTN but I just need to know what makes this device a "No Brainer" compaired to the O2 Zinc.
Cheers Jim

Not really the answer you want, but my philosophy on life is, get the best you can today and not worry about what's out tomorrow... otherwise you'll never get anything because you'll always find that a month or so down the line something better will come out... so to say!
Otherwise, the Zinc does seem impressive... but O2 have already delayed the release once, so who's to say it will actually be out at the end of march anyway
True....Very True. The exception to that case was the iPAQ hx4700. which in my opinion is still one of the very best PDAs out there and its now 2 years old ???
I decided to hang back for the release of the Zinc hoping WM6 will be on it. have you tried flashing your rom to wm6??? if so did you have any problems setting the phone back up for T-Mobile??

I'll agree with you on that... I used to have a hx4700 myself... it was the VGA aspect that appealed to me, but I felt it was before its time... oh, and slightly big!
I think the Zinc will have v5.2 on it???
I've flashed my MDA several times and can almost memorise the internet/mms settings that takes approx. 2 mins to put back in... its all good fun
You may never flash WM6 on a Zinc...

Yeah - similar case here. I flash frequently and I could probably set it all back up again the way I like it with my eyes closed Top tip: get CAB files for all your favourite apps (and any relevant serial numbers) and keep them in a folder on your storage card. That way you can even get all set up from a full reset with nothing but your phone.

Absolutly agree.... I kept all my CAB files on my SD card..Just incase.. but that was WM03se. Is there a HTC "official" rom update available for wm6...where did the wm6 roms come from?? oh and whats the best...
back to the original question,
I own a TYTN and ive had good test run with the Zinc, even though the Zinc has a faster OS the tytn feels faster and reacts better. The finish of the Zinc is a big cheap looking too.
If i was to buy a new phone today it would be the Tytn again, if i was to wait then it would be kaiser or even one of the new samsungs.
Cheers lads.....Just bought a TYTN - Orange SPV M3100 to be more precise.
Now whats the score with all these ROM upgrades.
and is there a today plugin simliar to the Orange today screen
Problem with O2 is the data charges. They're probably the worst out of all the UK networks!
I'd hate to get a phone like the Zinc or Kaiser and have to constantly monitor my data useage.

That's far too big a question. You've got some reading to do - see the wiki
for the mods.. you can delete this message if you want...
i just want people warned specially in asia region that o2 zinc is not that good ..
although better processor ( but you will not see the difference compare to HTC hermes ),camera and o2 integrated software..
THere are many other choices on O2 products... Atom exec, atom life..etc..
Just not this is O2 Zinc is not worth recommending....
or im strongly recommending HTC HERMES (Dopod 838 pro, Softbank, or the HTC Tytn if available) if your fun of slide keyboard...
I promised you this will be a great help on you...
Trust me...
I just want you to be happy like me now..

Alpine & Himalaya ROM Upgrades

Hi, I was suprised that Alpine forum doesn't contain any ROM upgrades. Is Himalaya WM5 ROM works for Alpine ? As the desriptions stated that they are also known as O2 XDA IIi.
Does such upgrade works ?

The Himalaya phone is sold as XDA II, MDA II, Qtek 2020 and many other names. The Andes is the updated version that has a 1.3 megapixel camera, sold (among other names) as the XDA IIi.
This is wriiten at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/
So somebody did something wrong.
no andes seem to have been a bastard son of himalaya which was not around for long at all dont recall seing any owner of andes in the forums
it was suppstly sold as IIi for a short while before the alpine took over
andes is suppose to be able to use himalaya roms but alpine is not!
