G3 Vs G4, what is the best? - JAMin, XDA Neo, S200 General

Hi Guys,
I just bought a Italian S200 but it is SPL 2.09.0000 (so I think G3).
I have the chance to take it back to the shop and try to buy another one (maybe G4).
What is the best thing to do?
Is better have a G4 or G3?
Thanks!!!

G3/G4 specifies the type of DOC (DiskOnChip) flash memory installed in the phone. I have had experience with both as my JAMin originally had a G3 DOC but got a G4 DOC as part of main-board replacement. From the user's point of view it makes no difference which type is installed. For the more curious "hacker" it makes some difference as a phone with the G4 flash memory complicates life a bit with regards to unlocking, downgrading etc.

Thanks!!!
But if all the new models have an G4, this means that in the future the last roms will be only for that DOC (DiskOnChip)?

and what's better?
thx.....

digifan, it depends on what you want - the latest - or - the most hackable. G3 seems to be the most hackable from what I can tell.

so G3 is easy to update rom or do anything, isn't it ?

Getting a G3 Model

OK, sorry for being a total n00b, but such is life.
I've decided to get a totally new phone, and HTC wizard seems like the one for me.
From reading around, it seems G4 models are much harder to mod, and i'd really love to mod the hell out of it (especially by making the move up to Windows Mobile 6).
So i want to try and ensure i get a G3 model. I understand that there is no visible difference, but are there any companies that never shipped G4 models? I don't care who it's from because i want to unlock and use on orange whatever.
Cheers
companys dont even know what models they send.. i remember reading somewhere that even htc didnt know what a g3/g4 wizard was.. i think g3/g4 term is only used online for us nerds.. g4s are easy to flash.. u just have to use shelltool
Your best bet would be to ask around on eBay or something. Send a message to the person telling them to look for the difference.

qtek 9100 Production date?

Hello folks!
this is my first post here, altough i've been reading and learning stuff from here for a few months already. Good stuff that can be found here! I bought a refurbished 9100 from qtek g3 model, 3 months ago in ebay; the problem was that it fell down to the floor once (1meter fall) and since that day i have severe GSM network problems on the food. Almost no network on the mobile. 99% of the times i try to do a network search.
So i have my eyes on a phone that is for sale, also used. The fella says that the screen is broken, and that that is the only problem with the phone. All else worked fine. I asked him if he knew if the phone was a G3 or G4 model, (since i have a g3 and wanted to mix both into one phone to get a perfect one) but he doesn't knows.
He was able to tell me though that he bought the phone from Vodafone in March 2007. And my question is: is there any way to know, by manufacturing date or any other way (imei?) if the phone is a g3 or g4 model?
AFAIK theres no problem in mixing G3 with G4 parts, but am i wrong?
Thanking in advance who ever reads my post and replies.
BTW: everthing else works perfect on my WIZ excluding the network, and i had it CID unlocked and installed Win mobile 6.0.. sweet! i was in symbian for 4 years with a siemens sx1 before, and i must say i definitely love windows mobile! simply awesome browsing the web through wifi (for free!) and then still connected on MSN open up Age of Empires Gold edition and enjoy such fine graphics on a mobile!
Hello brother...and may I commend you on making an excelent first post! PLENTY of info for us to help you! But to the point, you are correct, there is no problem in mixing G4 parts with G3 and vice versa. The only difference between G4/G3 phones and the different brandings are simply the DOC chips on the boards themselves(that what makes them a G4/G3), and the branding on the casing. The innards are identical. So I hope that helps!
thanks for the reply!
but what about the other question i made? can you help in any way?

Has anyone flashed the Official HTC 6.5 to an ATT Pure?

Any issues? Was it a straight flash or do you need to hard spl?
Needed HardSPL and honestly after a couple of hours of playing with it I flashed Dutty's ROM.
What about ATT Pure's stock rom... is it available to upload it back if necesary for warranty purposes?
I'd like to know about a "True Rom" backup image as well
I'm contemplating burning something new
probably a one of "Duttys" from what I've read" (how did you like it?)
but still not clear on any special issues with burning the AT&T Pure
using Roms that were meant for the Diamond 2. (seems most are)
I'm concerned about difference in the Radios as the D2 was designed for european phones. I that a problem?
And as implied by the other poster, I'm willing to take a reasonable risk
but would like to retain my warranty for hardware failure etc or re-sale
so would like to be able to revert to the stock device.
I'm new enough to phones in general to need a better undertanding of the
any required unlocking issues and how isolated are the components of the software (Winmo and TF3D) and Radio protocol software?
(as I'm sure do most newbies)
Any explanations or pointers to good source of "medium level" technical
phone info would be much appreciated
Thanks

HTC Pure or Touch Diamond2 are just brand names. They both have internal name as Topaz. Look underneath your phone battery, Phone is called TOPA210 which means Topaz. They have almost similiar hardware and need same drivers. The radio band is different, but they have the same radio hardware (GSM), just tuned (hardwired) to operate at different frequencies. Thus, there is no issue with flashing D2 ROM on Pure. Its works just like D2. The only thing you need to be careful is not to flash CDMA ROM on GSM phone and vice-versa. They have different driver requirements and it will kill the phone.
I think some chef's have dumped the stock At&t ROM. Try searching the ROM section.
I know the phones are the same just want to point out that under the battery on the ATT Pure it says "WarHawk". There is also a ring tone on the phone that has WarHawk in the name.
I have!!
I am using the HTC WM6.5 on an ATT Pure with no issues. You only have to remember that the Pure does not support the 3G 2100 band (only 3G 850), but it offers the full range of GSM/EDGE bands.
The Pure ROM had more games, though. I miss them
They're the same phones. I've already cooked a few roms and had the Official Topaz rom on my Pure and everything works perfectly. No worries.
Yep, thanks guys. I did it too with no issues. I like the bigger icons on the official and all the junk's gone too. Nice little device.

A little help needed

i am currently using htc one m8 and i'm not satisfied with the performance of it in daily use.. i have an exchange offer with MOTO G4 without any cash.. should i do it or not?
I have been using this device for about 4 months, upgraded from a dinosaur motorola defy+.
It is very quick and smooth, love how fast this moto g4 is, highly recommended!
I have the non amazon unlocked xt1625 version.
I know g4 is fast but m8 was fast as well.. I need an opinion that should i exchange? Or would it be a downgrade?

First Compare all specs. Then ask for the difference. And 3rd device if you want to install a custom rom or not. The G4 is near to aosp, so there's no bloatware like stock HTC which need more ram etc.

Anything to know before buying the - ZE552KL - version of the Zenfone 3?

So my LG is dead, and I came across this phone.
What attracted me was the looks of it, it really looks nice! (and then it had some nice specs as well )
*But, it only has 3000 mAh battery, so I wonder how this phone does on a daily usage? I came from an LG G2 D802 with 3000 mAH as well, but smaller screen. So what do you think about the battery life, and if you have any other device to compare it with ?
I am planning to buy it on Aliexpress, but before I buy, I want to know if this phone has - like many other devices a "Chinese" version that the sellers on Aliexpress flash ROM on before shipping? Or this device has actually only 1 model? I also saw that Asus has an official store on Aliexpress so I am less worried, but still
Thanks!

Hi verynoob,
ZenFone 3's CPU is Snapdragon 625 (14nm FinFET) which has good battery life & good performance thanks to Adreno 506 GPU. Well ZenFone 3 has 2 versions (ZE520KL & ZE552KL). Both has same CPU but the difference is the RAM and storage. I have listed the specifications below:
ZE520KL: 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM, 5.2 inch Full HD screen with 2650mAh battery capacity
ZE552KL: 4GB RAM + 64 GB ROM, 5.5 inch Full HD screen with 3000mAh battery capacity
*Note: Different market/region, different RAM/ROM configurations & different LTE speeds & bands
If you buy ZenFone 3 from China/Taiwan/Japan, most probably the seller will change SKU to WW (which means no OTA upgrades and you can only update your device manually)
And ASUS just released Android Oreo for our device
Hope this helps
Thank you, I see you also have the same name as the phone haha, nice
So There is no way to make it OTA update, by flashing an official ROM somehow? Or that's not possible, and it's hardware thing

Haha. Usually, ZenFone 3 that comes from China will use CN SKU and Japan will use JP SKU. On the other hand, the serial number is attached with the SKU. Once the seller changed to WW SKU, ASUS can't provide you updates. So, manual update is only way to upgrade firmware.

Thank you, it does seem worth to buy, that's why I'm so skeptic before buying it, because from some reason I never heard of it before, until I accidentally encountered it on Aliexpress. And I dont know anyone who do know about it
It seem too good, even has USB-C, Gorlla glass, it's IPS+, and a great camera, and it's not too expensive. (Although 3000mAH isn't the best comparing to Xiaomi Redmi Note 4).
It has to have some flaws! Come on guys
So, would it make sense to buy it right now? Here in Italy I could get the ZE520KL from amazon at 220€ ( 273$ )

One thing you should take a look into, if you're planning to use Custom ROMs on this phone you will be disappointed, since not many ROMs available for this phone and not so many devs are working on it either (no offcial ROMs for it if I'm not mistaken).

The better version (5.5 inch with 3000 mAH is on 250-260$) right now on Aliexpress if you wish
And for that little price difference, perhaps you should consider the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017, which some of my friends have, and it looks great, great screen, great battery life. I had a Full HD Lg G2 on a 5.2 inch display, And the A5 is also FHD on a 5.2 display, yet it looks better in my opinion, and battery life is better. I dont know how Samsung does it, much better battery life with the same capacity

It's OK I've used my LG G2 with the stock ROM ever since, I just don't have time to mess with my phones currently, although it is fun
