Hello!
I'm really annoyed that I can't get my unlocked 8125 to display the network name off the network; right now it is forcing all the network names to show up as Cingular i.e. retrieving APN name off SIM instead of off the network. On my old MPx220 back in the day, I had it setup to retrieve the network name instead of the SIM name by using an unlocked ROM and forcing a PIN on the SIM to come up upon bootup. However this trick isn't working on the Wizard. Does anybody know the registry key to modify it so it retrieves it off the network? This happens with all the Cingular SIMS I've tried, as well as all the ROMS I've tried "including Qtec and IMate stock roms". Thanks!
Bump - anybody got any ideas on this?

hi all
I currently have a xda 2 with WM2K (1.60c), at the moment i am with O2.
I will be changing to one of the other main ones (execpt 3  ) what will i have to do to make it work with anyone of these providers (i dont care aobut the splash screen)
Any help is apprciated
Neel
You just need to unlock your phone, it will then work with all providers. You can enter gprs settings manually. There is no need to flash the phone.
just unlock it and put in sim.
You might want to set correct GPRS settings & voicemail number under speeddial 1
Mine works with T-Mobile (original) and Vodafone (using dual sim adapter)
Hi, there I just received my XDA EXEC for UK, Im in USA.
I have Cingular Wireless(AT&T Wireless), and what I did was put the Sim card on the phone and the phone starts working, but I'm having 2 problems.
First my phone has the roaming signal all the time, I don't know if there is any way to modify that.
And the second and most important is that the phone has really low signal.
I want to know if someone can help me.
Thanks.
COPYTECHUSA.
Hard reset the phone and choose Copoorate mode (the code is 0506). This will stop the roaming issue. Other modes load O2 customisation.
I already has my phone in corporate mode and still the roaming signal.
Thanks.
COPYTECHUSA.
If in roaming then it would suggest that the phone has been setup with UK O2 as the default network. Have a look at Settings/connections perhaps you can change the defualt network to Cingular or try installating the Cingular CAB file from: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=787912&highlight=cingular+cab
I have no idea what I'm saying here, but try to lock it onto GSM instead of WCDMA and it should be better.
Hi, I have a Cingular 8525, Hermes, but there are no options for me to manually select my network. It is unlocked and it is also bootloader 1.04 ( dunno if that matters), and I can select bands (after using the registry tweak).
What I need is to be able to manually choose what network to be on.
I've done a search and I couldn't find anything on this...
Thanks
None of my tricks work that did previously as far as unlocking this feature. On a T-Mobile SIM network select works perfectly. However, any of my Cingular sims block it.
Cingular blocked that in the US with all their recent SIMs, no way to get around it.
i dont think all of it is the sim, because i was able to enable network selection on my 8125 with my 3g branded sim and it worked fine! i think it still has something to do with the registry! I used the same reg hack on my 8525 and it would bring up the network selections, but it wouldnt let me register on the 2nd cingular selection!
Same here. My 8125 had network selection and it worked beautifully. Also, on my MPx220 I had manual network selection and it worked without a hitch. It definitely is something to do with the ROM on these phones.
Just got back from the BVI. Cingular is available on USVI (can see tower). If I used my old sim from my mpx220 in my 8525 (orange/white) w/cingular international activated, I could not choose between the providers. It would always lock on CCTwireless @ $1.50/min. It was the page that has 'find network' as the only option. If I changed to the new simI got with the 8525 (blue/white/3g) w/o cingular international, I would get the network selection page that had the additional option of 'manual' network selection plus many other options/settings. I then could select 'cingular' and use it w/o charge. It would not let me register on CCTwireless even though it was an option in the dropdown menu, maybe because I didn't have cing int activated on that sim. So the manual network selection page is available on the 8525. It appears not be a 'new sim' issue. There must be a registry hack to enable/force the manual selection page as a default. Any thoughs to do this?
Yes please someone post the reg hack for this. I reside between two towers and likewise two providers - one Cingular and one roaming - and the partner does not have a partner agreement with Cingular.
Unfortunately, the "unpartnered roaming signal" is much much stronger than Cingular's, and therefore takes precedence over Cingular every time my phone repolls the networks every few minutes.
I cannot access data at all on the partner's network. I even called the provider and got their GPRS settings. So I need to be able to manually select Cingular as my network so that I can get on their data network.
I called Cingular and told them this and said that if they would let me do this, they will save a lot of money because they have to pay a buttload anytime I make or receive calls on other towers where they don't have an agreement, which is true - they confirmed this, and they always say that manually selecting networks is not possible. I think they are lying.
I have the HTC TyTN (with the WM6 homebrewed ROM) and the Cingular 2125 (with WM5 MSFP iMate ROM) - both with no dice on changing this.
Someone please post the reg hack!!!

Hey all - just got my unlocked wizard from ebay... it's a t-mobile device (has t mobile logo on it) but receives calls etc fine when I put in my att sim card, says its on ATT network, etc.
Only thing it is having trouble doing is connecting to the mobile data (it says its trying to connect to t mobile MMS - GPRS)... how do I set this device to connect to att's data network (i dont think they use gprs do they?) so I can send MMS messages?
Also.. my exchange provider said I need to upgrade my software on the mobile device if I want to use exchange push email... I need to get the "AKU2" update... now when I do this, if available, do I get this from ATT (because they are my provider) or t-mobile (because the device is t-mobile) ??
Thanks for reading the newbie questions... love the device though!

Does this still apply though because I have a device that says t mobile on it.. the keyboard looks different from the cingular 8125.. etc?

also, i'm not upgrading from a former at&t plan.. my sim card says cingular, then they became ATT... so i was just saying ATT because cingular is now ATT
so I have a cingular sim card trying to access cingular/att network with the t-mobile device. Can you advise per my original post given this info?
See if I hit your link... following the docs...I don't have (GPRS/3G) as a choice... just Cellular Line (GPRS) .. what can I do??
Under where it says "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:", select "New".
General Tab:
Enter a name for these settings: mMode
Modem Tab:
Add “New”.
Enter a name for the connection: mMode
Select a modem: Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G)
I use a T-Mobile MDA on the AT&T network as well, using a Cingular SIM.
A quick way to set the Media settings on the MDA is by running "Cingular WAP MediaNet MMS Settingsv2.cab" linked here.
If that link doesn't work, it's attached in the second post of this thread.
Thanks!
The .CAB worked like a charm.

We stayed China and Hong Kong mostly and 2 of my friends came from Chicago who were using the BlackBerry from Cig/ATT. they both buy a Hermes in Hong Kong and had different situation -
The first one just inserted the SIM card and after the network wizard run, everything going ok. (Scap 4.31 rom)
The other one inserted the SIM and after running the network wizard, once connecting to the network no matter Media or My ISP, it will cut off the connection and asked for setting (modem disconnect....)
I had tried this phone with my China SIM and working ok, I had tried to change the rom from Scap 4.31 to AT&T official, the same, tried the network setting with proxy/no proxy - same, tried theGPRS setting between PAP/CHAP - same (as i found the official AT&T rom with CHAP setting at default)
the phone with call functional ok, only cannot access internet, is anything lock the sim with the BlackBerry and cannot use other handset? I found some information from the bb manual saying that "register you handheld manually" so is this related?
thanks
