Remove MMS Composer / MMS mailbox? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam General

As this software is added by default from Extended ROM, it should conceivably be possible to uninstall it.
Is there any way to do this, short of a hard reset / cooked extROM?

I'd like to know as well. I have no use for it, don't need it. would like it gone!

Qtek 2.17 MMS problem...

I've got a problem..
I've installed the new Qtek ROM, including all the extended rom files.
I setup my MMS accounts for Orange Netherlands as I also did after my last rom update, and the one before.
Now however, I can't seem to get the MMS functionality working...
I am at a loss here, anybody got an idea what I should do to get it working?
Is there some registry interfering with my manual set MMS settings?
Anyone got an idea?
Hello
For Orange CH, we have to put WAP-version 1.2 and not 2.0 in the server settings. Maybe it's the same for you ?
It's already on wap 1.2
Strange I can't get it to work..
It's freaking me out!!!
No one?
Please.......
I'm performing a Hard Reset now, I'll skip installing extended Rom and just install the MMS-JAVA cab witch is mentioned in the K-Jam post..
Will that cure my problems?
Do I still have smartdialer then?
Help me please....
YOU WON'T BELIEVE THIS
Okay, I maybe onto something here..
In m,y mms settings, I use a port that starts with 010.250.etc...
When I remove the first zero, so in the MMS settings remove the first 0 from my gateway, it bloody works...
That was sheer luck!!!
Take advantage of this info guys!!!
Where'd you find 2.17? Is it WWE? Link please....
Thanks in advance...

it''s all there
Bless you.
that sounds right. Cingular's are names like wireless.cingular.com for the gateway rather than an IP Address. But MS stuff in general doesn't tend to like having leading 0's on any section of the ip address. This is probably all that stoped you to begin with as my cingular mms messages go through fine using 2.17 with allowing it to install the EXTRom as it would normally after the flash.

Cingular 8125 - Extended ROM - Is it needed?

I just got my new phone today so I've been play around with it. It seems pretty slow so I tried the trick of doing a hard reset and then soft reseting before it started to load the extended roms.
I then entered the GPRS settings manually.
Everything works (or so it seems). I can make phone calls... I can connect to the net, and the phone seems a little faster then with the extended rom installed.
So my question is... do I need the extended rom? I don't mind missing out on some cingular spash screens and ring tones. I don't need the Goodlink or Xpress Mail included on the extended rom. Is anyone else doing or heard of people using their phone without problems this way?
I'd say everything is good to go but I see a lot of threads with people mentioning "needed" extended rom files. I just want to make sure what I'm doing is ok before I really start to tweak my phone.
Hello guitarlp,
I did the same thing as you with my T-Mobile MDA. Installed the Qtek ROM 2.17 and aborted the extended ROM customization.
I did setup my t-mobile gprs manually - works fine.
Phone works, SMS works.
MMS current don't work as I did not load t-mobile customization. I have simply to find out how to configure the registry to get MMS working properly, but that is currently not my priority. I prefer a lot my MDA with ZERO t-mobile customization.
Thanks for the reply. I don't use MMS but every once in a while someone sends me one. No biggie though... I'd rather have a fast bloat-free phone over MMS.
But I beleive if we get hold of our extended rom we can install a file or two to get MMS working correctly right?
That's great news... That's the info I'm searching for.
I'm gettting my MDA tonite. I want to unbrand everything. Can I just slap a QTEK ROM in there? What other things do I need to look out for?
first unlock?
I will be using it with Cingular.

MMS tab is missing after ROM upgrade

I have Qtek 9100, and I recently upgraded my rom to 2.26.10.2 WWE. after the upgrade, I don't have any MMS capability. When I go to Messaging, then menu, there is no 'MMS Configuration' tab. No MMS anything even on my folder drop down list. I tried the Cingular MMS Cab that was posted. and that didn't work. GPRS and the internet connect just fine.
Any Idea?

I did
I did actually go to that forum first. I install the Cingular MMS Cab, and it didn't work. I still couldn't find the 'MMS Configuration' anything. I don't really know how to do the extended ROM stuff. I know how to set up the MMS configuration for cingular once I can get to it. But I can't even get to the setting.
:?:
Had a simular experience.
Recent hard reset and no Extended ROM anything. Didn't start up at all.
Now this is good and bad.
I have the GPRS settings done but am struggling with MMS
I believe i have the base settings correct but i am unable to set up an MMS account in the place where email, TXT and hotmail goes.
As you can see i am on Vodafone UK with a monthly contract
any help appreciated
I just had the same issue last night. Hard reset, and non of the customisations loaded.
So i loaded a new rom to it instead
I had the same problem when i first got my phone. It was because of my data plan. I believe the customization takes place by downloading. I didnt have the Cingular PDA Data plan. Im tryin to beat the system with just media max data plan. its cheaper and few texts are included! you may have to add the PDA data plan in order to get the custom installations.
Make sure you look under Menu -> Tools -> Options. MMS will show up in there, if you're using the CAB I posted. I'm still trying to figure out how to make it show up in the menu itself versus having to go through the above shenanigans. Maybe I'll revisit that today when I should be working instead.
well, I still have the same plan as before I upgraded my ROM. and it worked great. No data plan, just the media bundle (or whatever they call it hese days). After I upgraded the ROM, there's no MMS even when I go to menu->tool ->option ->new account , it just do the email setting again. This happened also the first time I got the phone, and someone from cingular send me the setting on air (smart message or something) and it opens the "mms configuration" tab under the menu list. Then it worked just fine until I upgraded the damn ROM. Do you think is a problem during ROM upgrade process? Will redoing the ROM upgrade help? I rather not do this again.
Thanks everybody!
Which CAB did you install from that thread? The one in Dr P's post, or the one in my post?
i installed yours. and actually, since I've been up all night trying to tinker with this, I actually found a fix posted by Molski. And It works now. It doesn't have the direct 'mms configuration" tab to get to the setting, but at least now MMS is in the folder list and I could set up things from there. It seems to be working fine now.
Thanks for all the reply and helps, and shout out to Molski too.
This is the thread that I was looking at just incase someone is having the same problem
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=59513&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=25
I still don't know why or what the problem was though. Will I have to go through the same thing again when I decide to upgrade the ROM in the future?
You shouldn't have to. And that CAB file I posted should have done basically the same thing. I can't figure out why it didn't. I know I use a slightly different one when I bulldoze my 8125, but if I remember it's because I included some personal settings in there. I can't remember now.. But I may go dig it up, and if it isn't, post it here as well..
Okay, I just looked at the CAB files, and I see what I did.
Basically, the one I posted there just has the settings to fix the resizing issue. It doesn't actually create the MMS folder.
I have another CAB that I use that does create the MMS folder, and then I do my actual settings in a CAB file I use with a bunch of different settings.
I think I'll merge the two CAB files together and post 'em.
what resizing issue was there? since I have installed yours before the other CAB, should I reinstall yours again?
Probably wouldn't have to, unless it adjusts the camera settings.
Basically, if you blitz your device, and don't install any of the Cingular customizations, you don't get MMS. THere's a CAB in the Extended ROM that if you do install it, you get MMS, but there is a sizing issue with images. For example, I may have sent myself an image sized at 90k taken with my phone to myself, but when I receive it, it's a thumbnail sized image at about 3k. With the settings adjustments in the cab file I made, it would be the full sized 90k image.
to avoid all this I sugguest u call cingular and get a data plan.. hard reset or update ur rom or whatever u wanna do. and see if the mms appears then. after that call them back and cancle that data plan... it worked for me
I have already fixed the problem using the fix posted earlier. I am still using the same plan as before, and it's working fine. I thought the data plan is for GPRS connection using a laptop, for example. Anyhow, I just use the media package from cingular and I have been able to access the internet using my phone.

Installing Extended ROM Cabs

Now that I know you can stop customizations be just doing a soft reset before they happen, I'm trying to pick and choose what cabs I want to install from the T-Mobile extended rom so that I just get mms to work properly (don't want too much customization). I thought I had it down to the four I needed, but I still get the problem that after a soft boot, mms no longer shows up in pocket outlook setup. Can anyone help on this? Below are the cabs I'm installing in the same order as the config.txt has them in.
MP_Customization_TMOUSA_Wizard(AKU2.x)_060615_noJa va.CAB (58KB) Configures ArcSoft MMS
MP-Shorcut-MMS1-Voice-CV-TMUS-060404.CAB (72KB) Adds MMS Inbox, Voice Tag control panel, Voice Dialing startup shortcut, ClearVue PDF shortcut, MIDlet Manager shortcut, Voice Speed Dial shortcut.
P_Generic_Conn_Settings.CAB (7KB) won't install for me; sets GPRS, MMS registry settings for T-Mobile
P_Other_Conn_Settings.CAB (4KB) GPRS, SMS registry settings

Alternative MMS apps?

Hi folks. Does anybody other than Arcsoft make MMS apps for Windows Mobile?
Cheers
Matt
Hi.
My Eten M700 has built-in jMMS v4.1.60 made by Jataayu
http://www.jataayusoft.com/DcMMSC.htm
But I have installed Arcsoft's MMS Composer v4.2.8.1 because it gives me more options/control over my MMS.
If anyone has any other software installed, post it's name, please!
BTW: Does anyone know how to enable/use DRM in Arcsoft's program (I mean i.e. limiting the number of times a sent MMS can be viewed, making it read only, setting expiration date etc...) ?
BTW2: There is also a program called (as far as I remember) CoolMMS, but I didn't like it and don't recommend.
