First of all, let me say that I have NOT been experiencing the SA problem on either of my TyTN devices (628/631).
But after reading/trying the above, all I can say is WOW! I can't believe how much more responsive the device is on scrolling up/down. I have no idea why, but it almost seems like the device has been turbocharged just by slightly loosening the screen (all I did was insert/slide a thin plastic business card around the perimeter of the screen).

Ya, WESBAR's method is much much better than mine.
I cannot recommend to disassemble your device. It always voids your warranty.
Because I bought Taiwanese CHT9000 in Hong Kong and I live in Japan, I had no other choice to overcome the SA problem.
Japanese version of new Hermes, named Softbank X01HT, still have the problem... hmm..

We all know that electronic devices especially display screens don't work well when strong magnetic field is nearby.
The TyTN's case has powerfull magnets in it. In most cases screen aligment problem develops in few days or weeks of usage.
So if phone is the case for a long period of time can magnets became a reason of misalignment?
The original case is not the reason, I have SA issue and never used it. Read this thread on TyTN accessories forum, the same has been discussed here a while ago:

Yes I just found this thread. However it looks like hardware isn't the only reason for misalignment. Some peoples had it fixed by uninstalling certain applications, other by upgrading ROM, etc. My previous device has developed alignment problem after a week of usage and I haven't changed the usage pattern during this time and yes, I have used the stock case.
Im inclined to agree with you, ive severly limited the usage of the device in regards to the stock case. Any case whose magnets are powerful enough to altar a switch in the device and change it to landscape when you take it out of the case half the time, is, in my books powerful enough to cause other issues.
I agree, while using the case I had no problems, but now that i lost my case and installed other programs, it has been happening frequently and I feel your frustrations. So far it may be the skin i am using with Wisbar but I got to play around with it to figure it out.
I'm not sure... There's a lot of variables could influence the device and create the SA issue... I have bought my TyTN device about 25 days ago... and (for now) it hasnt presented the SA issue. For 3 weeks I havent used the bundle case... now I'm using the bundle case (because for me is very very very perfect for my exigency)... so... I hope that it will be all right!!!!!!!!!!!

There does not seem to be any concensus on what causes it, whether it's conpletly a h/w or s/w issue. if htc is stating that it's a h/w problem, it's very disturbing that some that have had it repaired are are claiming of still having SA issues.
Can we say that this issue at least consistant on each device? In other words, SA is common, but varies in how "off" the SA is when compairing devices (TYTN A is 1cm off to the left on the right side of the screen, TYTN B is 5mm off to the right, etc) between devices. But is how "off" SA is consistantly the same on TYTN A and TYTN B?
I'm thinking that if TYTN A is always 1cm off to the left, then do a offset re-alignment....don't center the stylus on the crosshairs on the left side. Touch the screen 1cm to the left side of the righthand side crosshairs to compensate for the mis-alignment.
Ultimatly, HTC needs to fix this, but this may be a good bandaid.

So keep us updated ...
Is there any news about the known problem about screen alignment or calibration?
Some people claims that is a software related problem. Some other people report it as a hardware problem. Any confirmation ony any side?
Any comment from the HTC support service?
Has anybody got it repaired with succes? Not?
Any information is wellcome.
I think it's been well documented by now as a hardware problem. I've traded two on warrantee and finally got one that didn't have the problem
I agree it is hardware issue simply because my Wizard is not having any alignment issues and i have owned it for a month. If it were software i should have experienced the same alignment issues that plague a lot of others.
I only have the issue when I get dirt, lint or other pocket goodies under the edge of my screen.

Which I would be inclined to say is the trouble. I have had this for the same reason.
I would say the wizard is re-aquiring the edges of the screen when there is some sort of crap pressing on it, and thus, skewing the screen off centre.
LOL, Thats my opinion and I'm sticking by it, LOL
Hi to all!
here in Portugal, some qtek 9600 (HTC TyTn) have trouble whith Screen Calibration and, HTC are reparing them.... so, if you talk whith QTEK, HTC, and all other seller, they sould fix this problem.
Sometimes a software cause after all???

UPDATE: REMOVED, WRONG DEVICE
Hi,
I know I'm a n00b, and I just got my 8525 a couple weeks ago. I've enjoyed getting Custel's ROM on my phone and finally finding some decent cases (hard rubber and krussel from extremepda.com) and screen protectors (pocketpctechs.com)
I do have a question though, how easy should the keyboard slide out? I noticed that mine comes out fairly easily with little effort. It doesn't come out with gravity alone, but little effort is required on my part at all. Is this normal, or should I try and exchange it at the cingular store before my 30 days expires?
If this is normal that cool, I just want to make sure nothing is wrong.
Thanks everyone!

It is a reasonably common problem. I would certainly go for an exchange if possible. There is a fix available but it involves dismantling and will void your warranty.
See my site in signature link for details, but go for the exchange. It should click into position fairly firmly at both top and bottom.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the quick reply! I guess my accompanying question is if this is a defect with certain units, or if it is just something that happens (ie mechanism just gets loose over time) if it just starts to happen and needs to be tweaked I'm ok with that, but if it is a defective unit and others don't have the issue at all then I'll take it back.
Thanks again!

Well if you see my site in my signature you'll see that it is a problem related to the indents at each end of the runners/sliders being too shallowly embossed in the metal to provide a large enough bump for the sliding part to click over. In theory they might become loose over time, but my feeling is that folks with problems have ones that have always been pretty loose. Having increased the indents mine have retained a very firm click ever since, so I don't think it's a problem of soft/poor quality metal. Mine were so bad that just holding the phone to take a call would open the keyboard and it always opened getting it out of the holster. Otherwise my TyTn was perfect so I chose to void the warranty and fix the problem myself.
Edit some are better than others from the start (to answer your question!!)
Mike
Thanks Mike! I ended up trying to take it back to Cingular, and tried some of the other ones and they were actually worse than mine. I'm probably just a little picky. If it gets real bad I'll definitely go through your guide!
hi everyone,
i have recently been given a htc touch dual, and noticed theres a lot of movement on the slide when close(left + right)
is there any way of tightening it up?
thanks for any help i recieve.
sam
I have the same problem, answers will be useful for me too!
mmmmm take it theres just the two of us that have had this problem, can anyone recommend a repair centre in the uk?
There are more people with this problem. I think it's just a matter of how loose the slider is. Mine is not loose but a friend's Touch Dual is quite loose.
mine has a little wobble when closed, but is sturdy when opened.
it doesnt really bother me, so havent asked how/where to get it fixed.
Hi , i'm from France and mine too.
There are a lot of movements on the slide when close(left + right).
It's very disturbing... Did someone send the phone to repair center ??
Thks

i second this. i have the same problem with the slide,
could it be warranty covered?
same here as well!!
Same in Spain, and it's getting worse with time.
I have tried to repair it by myself.... it was big mistake...
Welcome to the realm of HTC build quality. I went through 6 E650's (S710's) before I got one that was remotely tight. My Dual has slight play on the top right of the screen when it's closed, and due to probably getting a replacement which is the same, i've not bothered trying to get it replaced. When it's open it's fine.
I think, as with the E650, it's just down to where they've put the slides on the phone.
I repari my nike's slide. It's not difficult, nomy my nike have a perfect slide.

How did you do that?
HTC are a couple of Stuck up Jerks.
my screen went black cause of the looseness.
the flex cable was damaged since it was loose.
Expensive phones, once they break they dont want to help..
so now im looking for a flex cause the "warranty" doesnt cover me for some reason... jerks!
Hi there.
I'm from Germany and my Nike ist a little bit loose too.
If the slider is loose and its definitely a production problem, i would say that this a case for the warranty.
Also, i have done an "electronic insurance". It covers claims caused by yourself or other technical problems.
On the other hand, i would try to give it back to my htc-dealer or provider if the slider damges within the 2 years of warranty.

I think this problem got no fixing, because HTC use very simple slide-method in Touch Dual.
There is only 2 springs, little slide-board, and whole screen based on board only by 4 little screws. And this screws located to close...
Mine did this for a bit but I managed to take the slide apart and put it back together and it tightened up and now doesn't seem as loose. I suppose it's how loose/tight the fitting is.
every where i have read that almost every one who is owner of htc hd2 have facing the touch screen problem so here i started the thread that to know that is there any one who has the htc hd2 without the touch screen problem??????

I bought my Leo December 31st, 2009.
I dont have touch screen problem until now
so r u the only one ???
No problem here, since Jan '10, was a little too sensitive on 1.42 rom, but no problem since.
When you are reading about how everyone has the problem, don't forget only people with the problem post, no one starts a new thread about how few issues they have.
Works Fine... Bought Late 2010.. Second Version (Yellow Reset)
i have mine since late 2009 (Leo eu) and used it extremely, flashed several wm roms, several android builds and once wp7. I NEVER had a touch screen issue, neither a hard button issues.
the only thing is that I just ordered a mugen battery, mine become to be a bit short.
I am sure 95% of us here are happy with the quality of this product.
but we always here in forums people that have problems, not those who dont need anything.
After 15 days my HTC HD2 repaired, just do not know what is left of the old phone when I look at what is replaced. Like it was smashed by a truck!

Had mine since November 2009 and had 0 hardware problems with it. Bear in mind that:
There is a thread exactly the same of this that has been and gone. It even had a poll on it
People don't start threads to say their phone is working correctly, so most threads are about problems. It does not mean that everyone is having problems.
Got mine back from lending it to a cousin, still working fine from when I bought it in April.
My HD2 works fine even though it was a second hand one with a smashed glass...
Had mine since last year, no problems.

I too have the revision version with yellow reset (earlier version has red)
Went out of my way to make sure it was revision version.
So far excellent, screen & buttons are perfect to date. Most people I know who ended up with screen issue had early version but most had also dropped there HD2 on more than one occasion.
Problem with these compact & cutting edge devices is they like a gentle life, drop them a few times (maybe just once!) & handle them roughly will limit lifespan greatly.
Heat in these devices can get quite hight too, I charge mine screen side down so heat can dissipate through heat-sink battery door rather than soak into motherboard & screen. I do the same when using it as a wifi GPRS internet modem for my notebook & also make sure it is in a cool spot (have done this since had a kaiser & used it for 5>6hr wifi modem sessions), Data/WiFi connection & charging simultaneously in the 34°C heat of BKK tests a devices cooling near its limits.
i have one with the yellow reset button and last night the touch screen stop working suddenly after installing google I/O android app.. man, i just cant express my feeling when i tried to unlock it and nothing happened
I really fail to see why we need a thread where people are expected to post;
"My device is working just fine...."
I really dont think this touchscreen problem is that widespread considering the amount of people who own HD2's compared to a handful of posts about it on XDA.
Im even less convinced that the colour of one tiny plastic component bears any relation to whether or not your touch screen is going to fail.
anyway.........
/rant
yellow reset has revised motherboard & different screen supplier.
HD2 model had a high level of returns, not to the point of a recall but enough for some networks to have a serious moan to HTC.
I have 7 workers on HD2's, 2 have had service repairs due to unresponsive screen so the problem is real.

Ok, that would make a certain amount of sense, thanks for bringing that up as I'd never noticed that being mentioned on the forums before.
That said, I still dont see the need for a "still working" thread. There are numerous threads for those with the screen issue to post in.
Thanks again for the info though
Edit;
While Im here, I might as well add;
Had mine since launch, T8585, has been no issues whatsoever.

Kind of agree but to see how many users have had a 2 year trouble free life span is interesting.
Think the revision details can be seen in wiki or HD2 tips thread.
