Tips on not losing minisd card - 8125, K-JAM, P4300, MDA Vario General

any suggestions on securely keeping the minisd card in place. i am on my 3rd card in 4 weeks and its getting kind of annoying at this point. the first time i lost the card was when i dropped the mda and didnt realize the card was missing until the following morning. i lost the 2nd card mysteriously during the night. any suggestions would be helpful, thanks.

Keep the MDA in its case? I haven't lost my MiniSD card and i've had my phone for about 4 weeks, but i keep it in the holster 80% of the time and almost always when i'm not home or it isn't in my hand directly...
How are you using your phone? How are you storing it? Etc.?

it usually in my holster, i just get clumsy at times...pretty sure that i lose the cards when i just drop my phone and forget to check if the card is still in... i was thinking of putting a layer of tape over it...
maybe i should just be more careful

....maybe? Tape also sounds like a good idea.

Tape may be tacky, but it sure beats purchasing a new card!!
I lost the fake mini sd card that came with my wizard, but have yet to loose my 1 gig card. I think I would cry...

I have my phone now since June or so and still haven't lost my card - I'd be devastated it it happened, I just realised I need to do a backup of that card !!!
Clear Tape sounds good to me.

double post, sorry.

Perhaps your locking mechanism for the minisd card is (semi)broken? You mentioned it had fallen the first time...?
I still have to push the card in pretty hard with my fingernail to get it to pop out, so for your cards to fall out so easily makes you think the minisd card(s) might not lock in correctly?

I have to say I've never had an issue with my card falling out of the slot. It locks in pretty firmly. I suspect a defective slot. Or perhaps you're not pushing it in quite far enough to enable to lock?

Dude after I read this my SD some how came out at a friends house and I didnt know until I tried to run some of my apps of my card. Some skater tape works well and it looks much cooler if you run it all around and cut out the spots for the various items.

Install NotifyMe.. it alerts when your MiniSD pops -out or deliberately removed from the phone.
Just execute the EXE anywhere on the phone and it automatically puts a shortcut on Start - Settings - Personal and configure from there..

That's really an... interesting thought. Anyone have any luck with duct tape?

It's also got something to do with the card itself. I have a 2 GB Apacer card which has never popped out, and even after I eject it I have to pull it out by hand, it won't drop out if I shake the phone or turn it upside down.
But I also have an older 512 or 1MB card (don't remember the brand name and can't find it any more). If I just push it in to eject it, it almost flies out of the slot. If I eject it and then hold the phone upside down it just drops out.
So I guess my tip is: If you've lost one, dont buy the same brand/size again without trying it in your phone

thanks for that app and advice guys

da_mayhem - thanks for that program - just tested it out and now at least when im drunk and lose the card ill know to look for it - going into my essential apps folder - thanks again

Micro SD Problem

I had recently bought a cingular 8525..... and i bought a scandisk 2gb micro SD card..... but when i try to push the card in it gets stuck and the card doesnt comes out..... i have to remove the battery and pull the card with the clipper...... but the dummy card goes in and comes out perfectly..... wht shall i do.... i have tried this with 2-3 brands micro SD cards
Same here. Althugh with a little fiddeling my Hermes recognised the Card. And as I haven't planned to remove it again any time soon I can live with that.
You have to be carefull when putting the card in. I had the same problem at the start, you have to put it in really straight and make sure you here a click. If you here a scrape, then it get corrupt.
Didn't want to make new thread, so I bumped...
I am having same problem. I tried to put the card in (2 gb sandisk micro SD) and now its stuck and not seen by the Phone. How did the first poster get his out? I looked under the battery, but I don't see an easy way to get to the card. Any help is much appreciated, since I cannot use my card yet...TIA!
ive experienced the same problem. seems like its a "breaking in" issue.
as you get used to putting it in and pulling it out it will ultimately just sink in. meaning, youd be able to click it in and click it out..
never had one problem with the 3 sandisk cards i use..
I did struggle the first time after taking the new Hermes out of the box but no problems since - since the first go I just do it really carefully, making sure it's absolutely straight.
SD cards are a nice, even shape but MicroSD have a funny shape to them - a degree out in insertion angle (oo-er, missus) and it seems you're stumped. Took me ages to get the thing out first time.
Thanks for the help, I was able to get it out with a very small flat screwdriver. It is very sensitive, and I make sure that I get the "click" before I push it all the way in. Thx.
tried taking out my sdhc earlier and seems like i have no problems anymore..
Guys,
Try using forum search. I posted a working solution to this issue here.

Micro SD card issues
I too had the same problem for 2 or 3 times, getting it in is the trick, very delicate.
The first time I inserted it, it didn't register and it wouldn't come out with a click, sort of had to pry it out delicately out of there, the second time, the device recognized it, taking it out it clicked but hesitated a bit, by the third time, no problem. Now it works exactly like it should.
The question is, is it the slot that gets broken-in or the card itself? I have another card on order, I'll know the answer to that soon, allthough I think it's the actual slot inside that assumes the shape it should or something, probably the pins-connectors inside that have to flex a couple of times.
Scary at first but it seems to fix itself.
God I love my phone, is it wrong to be so obsessed with it?

The Nintendo Cartridge Effect

Don't worry this is actually regarding the T-Mobile Wing's SD card slot. I've had mine for over a year now. Working great, thanks Ivanmmj for all his efforts, JustHome Rocks! That's a side issue. For some reason the SD card slot doesn't work anymore. It started off very small at first... Running TCPMP listening to some tunes, all of a sudden the music stops and it pops up with an error message "/Storage Card/Music/KRS-One - South Bronx.mp3 cannot be found" Normally I would just exit TCPMP, pop out the SD card and pop it back in and I am good to go. Now it simply has stopped working. At first I thought "SD card is fried" but nope... it worked fine on other devices so it's not them. I tried 3 different ones, all of them were SanDisk 1GB, 2GB, and an 8GB i just got.
I remember the original nintendo systems, had a similar thing with reading the cartridges, except now it's 2009 and the cartridges are waaay smaller.
Anyone got any ideas as to what the issue may be and/or how to fix it?
Thanks

Just blow the cartridge and stick it back in right on the edge...lol...brought back some memories. Hahaha, only thing I can think of is clean the contacts of the card. You could take the battery out and maybe use something to clean the contacts in the phone, but I have no idea what you could use that would be small enough to get in the slot.
Hey, you can use a air compressor, to blow in hte microsd slot. Or you can use air-spray in a can. Or you can use a little brush, which is a bit wet.
My quest so far...
That's where the name came from... blowing on the sd slot, cleaning the contacts on the card and praying my fone picks it up. It worked for a little while at first but over time it became unworkable. Canned air didn't help too much either, in fact it was after that it stopped reading altogether. The slightly damp brush with canned air to dry it didn't help either. My guess is the thing went to pot a long time ago. I've opened up the casing and thought i could get to it from another angle but no dice there without some major precision cutting tools to cut away at the outer hull but I don't think that'll be beneficial in the end.
I also tried a registry hack somewhere... forgot the link (think it was over at ppc geeks) to change the timing or something like that. Made a claim it would fix the issue, but no dice. If anyone knows of any hardcore tools and procedures to do some major surgery on the SD reader lemme know. I've got a back-up wing so I've got some SD action. This has turned into a lil side project for me.

Where do I insert the SD card

Hi guys i'm new to the TP community, just transferred from HTC Universal. Felt great we have a TP section here in xda
Now i just got my new TP and don't know where to slide in the micro sd card. could anybody shed some light on this?
thanks
Just insert it where it will do you the most good <Note the smiley. Most people will find that location after removing the back cover, on the same side as the stylus, near the wifi button.
I didn't like the fact that I had to remove the cover to get to it, but after getting an 8G card, I've not removed it since. I had one eject on my 6800 once accidentally. This one will not come out unless you really want it out.
got it, thanks

unfortunately carriers are starting to catch onto this, and very soon we wont see any memory slots at all- the phones will just come with 16 or 32gb of storage or whatever and that will be it, like the iphone does. i took a long oral survey for sprint, and they seem pretty adiment that most people never take out their memory cards... so they dont see a reason to add to the cost for a slot.
it doesnt bother me so much because i never remove my card either, problem is when i change phones its just way too easy to swap the sd card over and i have everything i need on the new phone instantly. oh well i guess...

Does your shift sometimes say SD card is read only?

This is the second time and a different card that this has happened with me. I've tried ruu and that doesn't help. I thought maybe there was a file on it that the phone didn't like so I backed up the card and let the phone format it. Problem went away for awhile. I got a faster card and now its doing it again. I had a similar but more destructive times of this happening with the evo. It would corrupt the card and I lost everything on it. What I ended up doing was put a piece of paper the size of the card on top of the card. This was to make the battery hold down the card more firmly. I suspected the crappy mechanism htc used on both phones is at fault. The card would wiggle around when it was seated in the slot and the lock bar down. I don't know if this is the case again with the shift but I did it again with this card. Hopefully that does the trick. I would hate to take the phone back.

no problems here (yet), but I hope this doesn't happen.
This has happened to me on all my android phones. My hero, optimus s, epic and now the shift. Usually just messing with it will fix the issue no problem. Pull the card reboot etc. Worse come to worse back your card up and reformat. That fixed it for me before.

Have any theories on why this happens?
I haven't had this problem but my Moment would occasionally tell me the SD card was damaged when I knew it wasn't. Figured out that just plugging it into the PC and having Windows scan the drive for errors would fix the problem. Maybe it might work for this too...?
I'm guessing that the SD card doesn't sit in the card slot and recessed area very well. Sometimes, over time, the card might be jostled by handling of the phone like if it gets bumped. The contacts lose a solid connection with the other half of the contacts inside the phone and an error happens. In some cases with some phones, I speculate when a card shift happens during a write cycle to it, the file allocation table doesn't get updated correctly, thus temporarily corrupting the card. Seems as if a format fixes it sometimes. That's my guess. When I put a piece of thick paper, less than a millimeter in thickness, on top of the card, and the paper is the same shape of the card, and the weight of the battery on it helps keep the card from having the tendency to move around in the card socket. The errors don't seem to happen again for me.
Why does this crap happen to me? The spring loaded card sockets on phones, I've never had this problem. They seem to hold the card in place very well. It's probably a cost issue because a plastic bar to hold the card down is cheaper than the metal spring loaded locking card mechanism.
It happened again. It seemed to happen when I tried to open a file. It seems like it only happened when I messed with the file. I deleted it and so far so good. It seems weird that a file would make the card go into read only mode.
I had it happen once. It was when I was disconnecting from the computer.
I always eject from computer, then select charge only before disconnecting. I read that on an EVO forum
Sent from my PG06100 using XDA App
I managed to have this happen on my Hero with an 8GB class 2 card. I returned it and upgraded to a class 6. Also I made sure to always properly eject the USB in Windows after that. Not a problem since. Knock on wood.
Sent from my HTC Evo Shift 4G
it happened rarely on my Moment but not on the Evo Shift . usually a reboot cleared this problem for my phone

Yup, this works great
It's happened to me before, but on my Hero. Haven't had it happen on my Evo Shift yet.
Only thing that's happened is one time I had my phone set as a disk drive when connected to my PC. A friend of mine called me and it couldn't read the ringtone from the SD card, and I got an error regarding DRM not being installed. Once I disconnected the phone from the PC, everything worked just fine.

SD card stuck in slot.

Anybody know how to get it out? I've tried pressing down on it, and grabbing it with very tiny tweezers. Can I take the phone apart? I have experience.
Just my 2 cents here but have you tried to "push" the card first ? If it worked your sd card should "pop out" a little and you can get it easily.
If I'm correct you need to push it further so that it is unlocked and can be removed (I never removed mine though so maybe it's just a bad advice but usually it's the way it works for micro-Sd cards).

^^It should work exactly as described above. Only reason why it should't work like this is because the uSDcard is inserted upside down, then i'm afraid you only will get it back with twicers and perhaps a small multitool plier.
