When I launch a program on my wm5 K-Jam, the system asks fo a permission to run it. Where is it stored (registry or elsewhere) that permission?
Thanks
Aikon
I think this thread might help.

Thanks hannip for your response.
More precisely, my question is about the place in where wm5 "remembers" that I allowed a program to execute.
As an example, if I run for the first time an executable, wm5 asks me for the permission to execute it. Then I delete that executable, delete the registry entry that eventually it created under HKLM/Software/... and delete any other entry found searching the registry for the exe's name.
Then I execute again the program and wm5 no longer asks for a permission. It is clear that such a permission is stored in a place that i don't know.
Where is it stored?

Hi All,
I need some help with CAb files and such.
I'm working on a "self healing" solution for some customers of ours, so that if their device runs out of battery power, when charged, it will rebuild itself and reconfigure itself, so there is minimal user intervention.
What we do is put all our CAB files in the EXROM, and that's how we get it done.
I have an issue with our encryption software in that it's install CAB can't be run from the EXROM, it needs to be run from the root of the device. But it also has to be paired with a license file.
So what I need to do is build a CAB file, that encompasses the Pointsec install CAB and the license file, that copies itself to the root of the device upon running my CAB and runs them from there.
how do I get these files to execute once i've told them to be copied to the root?
I though i'd also put a shortcut to the install CAB in the \windows\startup folder
but once the install CAB is run, the shortcut remains, and therefore upno soft-reset it throws up errors that the file no longer exists
here is a copy of the INF file i wrote to do this.
bear in mind, i'm new to this, so it may be incorrect.

Is there a registry entry, like in win2k/XP where I can get this to "runonce" or anything like that ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
you should put the cab in the ExtROM, and then.
In config.txt:
add lines to copy the cab to the root
add a line to run the cab from the root
Syntax: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=6648&highlight=config+txt+syntax
cheers edsub,
I wasn't aware of the EXEC command for the config.txt.
that will save me from having to build a CAb file to do this !
for future reference though, is there an execute command you can put into a .inf for theCAB file?
or is that where the setup.dll comes into play ?
yup, thats the allmighty setup.dll.
problem is with that: If you havent build it, you dont know what it does . . .
damn, looks like i have to brush up on my C++ skills
thanks again !!
Hello.
I have installed the IIWPO (theft protection) program manually (not in ROM) for testing purposes. After uninstall an error message appeared periodicaly. The error txt is "Cannot execute \windows\IIWPO_main.exe". Also I can not find any reference to this file in the registry (maybe faulty registry editor, PHM ?) or in the startup folder. Also tried searching in the file contents on entire device. No success. Please, help, this error message is pissing me off
might be late, but...
I had the same problem. It seems that the IIWPO_startup.exe writes an additional string somewhere (*.dll?) which forces the program to start. Btw. this means that it is not necessary to put it into the AutoStart directory, it should be enough to open it just one time after the installation.
Until someone finds the destination of this string there is a simple work around: just put a program file you always like to execute at startup (e.g. ClearTemp.exe) into your windows directory and rename it to IIWPO_main.exe. This will help
p.s. hexediting of the startup and main.exe does not solve the above mentioned problem but gives your iiwpo files and registry settings the desired personal touch to remain undiscovered
I uninstall my IIWPO easily. All you need is to reverse all the steps you followed during installation.
Remember to delete the line from config file in extended rom followed by a hard reset
Of course a HARD RESET will also solve the problem
I'm having this same problem....any solution yet??????
The reason for this is in the windows registry there is still a link to the program causing it to start. Use a program such as memaid which will find all dead links and delete them i had a problem similar to this with another program. Memaid solved it for me, hope it works for you also

unfortunately.............I tried memaid...........but it didn't solve the problem.....
anyone else?
Registry key location would be somewhere like HKLM to startup applications. Hard reset will definitely solve your problem.

I want to deny or restrain installation of applications on the fly as an service/process or by making changes in the registry on WM5 devices. Any ideas? The app preferely in C++/C#
CAB files are installed by wceload.exe in the windows directory.
You can overwrite this file with a blank exe, or remove the CAB extension reference to it in registry under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
Deny or restrain inst. of apps
Thanks, yes I've thought about this - but this isn't a very dynamic solution. When a person run a CAB I want to check if app is okay to install from a "List" - then show a popup with a message saying something like "Sorry, you are not allowed to install this application. Please contact your company IT Admin for more info".
Is the .CAB association in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT linked to wceload - so I could run an app to validate CAB, and if ok execute wceload..?

Write up a registry entry in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT to associate .CAB files with your custom file. Then, when the user taps on a CAB file, your program reads it, compares it against its list and, if it's approved, calls WceLoad with the appropriate parameters.
The key would probably look something like this:
HKCR\cabfile\shell\open\command
(default) = "<path to your app>" "%1"
(%1 will be replaced with the path to the CAB file).
Then, if the CAB was approved, call WceLoad with the following parameters:
\windows\wceload.exe "<path to cab file>" /nodelete
Note that some apps, may call wceload.exe directly. I am not sure if Activesync does it, but I know a couple of custom installers that do.
If you really want to secure the device against unothorized software do the following:
Rename wceload.exe to something else like wceload1.exe.
Create you own wceload.exe, but make sure you capture and preserve all command line parameters in case you need to transfer them to the original file for proper installation.
This way you can be sure no one will install anything without your permission.
Olso, keep in mind wceload is used to switch themes as well. (It handles *.tsk files).
Very much..
Thank You all!!
I'm creating a CAB file with _setup.xml. Is there a way I can automatically launch an application withing the cab file after or during the install?
Also, is there a way I can get a list of the verbs used in the _setup.xml. I've been unsuccessful here.
Thanks.
You can't launch an app using _setup.xml
Basically what you can do there (sorry I don't have a link to a full list) is to copy files, create shortcuts and add / change registry. This is all that cab installer knows how to do.
If you can code c++ you can add a setup.dll which has 4 functions that are automatically activated:
1 - before installation
2 - after installation
3 - before uninstall
4 - after uninstall
You can use that to do whatever you want.
Thanks for the quick reply. Any links on more info on Setup.DLL?
Can't you just create a process from within the setup dll on the after install message. I have not tried that but I have been able to do just about everything I can think of from a setup dll (ie edit registry, manipulate files, create dialogs draw stuff). If you know the location of what you want to run it should be easy.
I have only created cabs the old way, so to search for that google cabwiz.
I have this document about it (i can't remember where it comes from), log in to get it attached.
I use Sashimi alot and the only gribe I have with it is that I cannot Automatically Setup My Applications within Sashimi. I know it will run all exe files that is placed within the \Sashimi\Auto\EXE folder but it cant execute .lnk files. So this little app has three files which you simply dump in \Sashime\Auto\EXE folder.
There will be a file called Executefiles.txt
Any apps in there will be executed automatically after Sashimi is done with its installation
I use 1. Pimbackup.exe
2. Galarm
3. Audio notes
4. Magicall
Theres a config file where you can specify whether it should auto close or wait for a keypress to exit
O yes Source Code is in vs2008 used C#. Graphics aint good. But it doesnt need to be. I only spent about an hour and half on the app
aren't executable (AND lnk files) automatically executed when placing them in \Windows\Startup directory? or is this some Sashimi related thing. Whatever Sashimi is!?

When you flash a new rom Sashimi is used to install al your cabs automatically and do reg imports and copy files etc. So now when you are done installing everything you obviously need to run certain apps to chage settings and this app will help you execute these apps once sashime is done installing
Have a look at sashimi here : http://www.winmo-experts.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4
Forgot
Forgot to add you can even install cab files with it
ok I see. Thanks for explanation.
Thx you. Will look into it.
Thanks for the source code, now i can excute a .lnk without error.
last try fail with process.start, shellexcuteex and mortscript

No problem i battleded my backside of as well to get it to work. It would only execute .exe files initially but now it will do .cab .lnk and properly .html as well cause it passes it to the shell instead off trying to execute it itself. What app are you trying to write? You will see there a waitcomplete or something. if you remove that line it will start the process and still continue to run the app in the foreground. that command makes it execute the app and wait for it to finish before carying on with code. The only problem with that is if you would execute an app and minimize it then your code will wait indefinately for the app to exit before it will continue
