O2 atom battery don't last - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom General

Out of a sudden my battery will only last for a day with minimal call and other usage.
It can last at least two days before.
The phone is only 3 months old.
Is there a warranty on battery?

I thing it's 0426 ROM fault. Some people adwise to flash ROM again to solve this problem

battery back to normal
my battery is back to normal drain.
this is what i did :
-let the battery drain till the unit off by it self.
-i took out my SD card.
-charge the phone
-use the phone for 1 day without SD card. <- battery usage is normal at this stage
-try putting back the SD card <- battery usage is still normal
i'm not sure whether the SD card is draining power or not.
anyway, now it's working fine.

I can't understand how theese things can depend?

The drain and charge to full should be able to help.
The way I use to extend battery life is to get into the habit of pressing power off button everytime after use before you put it back into your pocket. Of course this also comes with the habit of turning it on everytime you take it, but you do that anyways so it's just half a bit more of a habit. This way your battery should last more than 2 days if you don't drain it a lot.

My solution !
Hi,
excuse me for my english...
I have the same problem, and i have tested all solutions on the forum. I flash
6X my Atom !
Yesterday I have found a solution : I flash with the new ATOM EXEC ROM on my ATOM.
before : lost of 15% per night
this night : lost of 1% !

good solution, but you will have terrible heardake when you battary gows down

no problem !
when i remove the battery, i have "flickering" 1 or 2 hours ! thats all !
but no heardake.

I have tested many things, and i have heardake when i turn on the equalizer ! but i d'ont use it

All is perfect for me !

Anyone with Battery drain problem?

Anyone having any battery drain issues at all? My wizard only lasts 12 hours till it dies on me. Even if it's on standby for the whole 12 hours.
This is obviously abnormal. I want to see how many of you in here have this problem, or if it's just me. I have replace a new wizard (from the same store), and this problem still persists..and i have also tried using a new battery with the same result.
I recently came across this program on this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=45168&start=25
B_uptime which records your usage time. The you are using your phone the processing time will be incremented, when you have it on stanby the idle time will be incremented. But with my phone no matter if am using it or if it's on standby, only the processing time is incremented.
I am suspecting this is the cause for the battery drain. Can people with or without this problem try this out please? And see if the idle time increment when you put the phone on standby?
Hoping to get some feedbacks. Thank you so much!
See this big thread here with people who have similar problems. http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=45601
I personally have my battery standby set at 2 mins.
jpflaw00 posted an interesting observation in the b_uptime thread too:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=45168&start=25
Try to remove the memory card and see if the phone still refuses to "idle".
I am making a new topic, to get a survey on howmany ppl are having this problem and if they have their's fixed.
I have tried pulling out the SD card, but the idle time still won't count, and this is my 2nd wizard.....so I am pretty screwed....I just don't know why....
ppl please post your comments and fix thx
ok, I have just tried pulling the SD card out, and it KINDA works! It only works when I take the card out, and let it turn itself off after 1 minute. If I manually press the power button, and then turn it back on again, the idel time still will not increment.
Did you just let it go on standby or did you also tried pressing the power button? So I guess the problem is not fixed for me.
I am using a Kingcap 1gb Mini SD, what about you guys?
How about people with battery issues state the brand, size, etc. of memory card if used. Otherwise people should state if they have a battery problem even if they don't use a memory card. Let's narrow it down to see if the issue really is the card :!:
jpflaw00, so does the counter still work for you if you press push the power button, and then turning it back on after 1 minute?
Want to know if I am the only one having this problem.
I had the mem card out since yesterday @ 3, fullly charged, and I didn't press the power button, letting it turn itself off, after almost 24 hours, it's @ 50%, so very good....but very inconvenient......and I do want to press the power button.
OK, I confirm, my phone finally works with the SD card out.
When the SD card is in, the idel counter stops working.
So we have narrowed the problem down to being some kinda of problem with some brand of SD card, OR simply the SD Card Slot.
I am using a Kingston 1gb. Really want to try a Sandisk and see the result.
Well this will blow your mind.... i DONT have a Memory Card, and yet my Vario battery lasts 1 day tops without charge. No WiFi, no GPRS, no BT, no IrDA, no Crazy Today Plugins.
gazzrenn, you have a more serious problem than me.....did you try hard resettting it and not install anything? and what rom are you on?
OK, I CONFIRM, THE PROBLEM IS NOT THE SD CARD! It is a problem with the SD CARD SLOT! I tried putting in a blank card (The piece of plastic that came with the phone), and the counter stops working, so there must be something wrong with the sd card slot..when something is inserted it keeps the phone running...
omg..anyone having this problem?
Hey jpflaw00, any news on your Wizard?
Does your battery still drain? Have you tried putting in the Plastic thingee in the slot and see if it still drains?
Thx/
well as far as i can tell no...i haven't really noticed anything...to me it seems as if the battery is fine, but i haven't really been testing it out...i think i have better battery life now, but i'm not too sure...i recently upgraded my rom, but maybe the problem has to do with phonealarm or something that keeps transmitting info back and from the memory card...but if you are having battery problems without a memory card, then i suggest trying the new roms out to see if this fixes any issues you are having...my suggestion is the mobiz edition i am using right now...if i'm right i'm getting better battery life, but then again i could be wrong...just try it out...anyways i will charge my phone as soon as this cycle is done...then i will examine the phone battery stats, and then i'll get back to ya...good luck!

Battery dies very fast, how to monitor tasks better?

My battery on the HTC Pure went from 45% charge to 2% auto-shutoff within a matter of 1.5 hours without any usage on my part. In fact, I had rebooted it and not touched it since.
The thing has been dying a lot faster after I installed some programs from Marketplace. I'm wondering if they are doing background processes that zap its power or what.
Any recommendations on monitoring what's going on in the background???
try to calibrate battery
(thanks helgee):
1. Discharge the device. Absolutely.
2. Take out battery for 60 sec.
3. Put the battery back. Don't switch on the device!
4. Charge the device by normal way (not by usb!) to the full state (green LED).
5. Take out battery again for 60 sec.
6. Put the battery back.
7. Switch on the device.
How can you discharged your battery? I didn't find a option on my Touch Diamond 2.

You don't do this unless you want to damage the battery.

Exactly the same thing here, after installing some apps from Marketplace, the batt started to drain very fast. Don't know why yet. The apps installed are:
Mobeedo
Bing
Pocketnow
The Daily News
I've removed Mobeedo, The Daily News and Pocketnow just to test if they were doing something.

Fast battery discharge
I had this very same problem. I had it with WM 6.1 and the Pure. Both due to the same app. BING is your problem. If you have a memory card in your phone it causes it to be constantly accessed instead of just on demand such as with storing pictures from camera. This is a battery life killer. Ditch BING, remove your storage card, save what you want to a PC and wipe it. After that put your saved files back on the card and put back in phone. This should stop the battery drain issue. Hope this helps.
ALSO: Some people swear by the battery drain and charge thing...others do not. Use it if you like but without getting rid of BING or finding a way to keep it from accessing your memory card the difference you will see will be barely noticeable.

[Q] battery immediately drops down after.....

i've read about similar topics, but i think i did not found answers...
i've been aware that x2's battery drains fast. i had lots of bad experience with this problem so i decided to buy a new spare battery. to describe my problem, here is the scenario.
1. i fully charge my new battery
2. i remove my new battery to charge my old battery
3. after my old battery is full, i remove it to use my new battery (which was fully charged 4 hours ago)
4. after turning on the phone, it reports (immediately) BATTERY IS LOW.
5. i scratch my head why, replace it with the old battery instead, turn it on, and reports LOW BATTERY also.
i think this is a phone problem and not a battery problem. what do you think? why do i also encounter same problem with my brand new battery?
please help. thank you...
this is a new problem i encountered after reformatting my phone...
did u try flash to another firmware?
I had similiar problem as u when was using firmware Genenic_sg, flashed to Generic_en then its gone
by trial and error...
by trial and error, i found the solution... (once my main battery runs out of life, i do this steps...)
i let my spare battery stay on the phone for about 10 seconds before turning it on... (something like at least, the phone will recognize the life of the newly inserted battery)...
there are occasional times however, when the battery meter will still say low battery life even if i already had the battery stay before turning it on... so what i do is just turn it off again, remove the battery for few seconds, reinsert it immediatelt, and turn my phone again... and voila! it's finally recognized as 100%.

Better battery life on HD2 WP7

After unplugging the phone turn the camera on and record for about 15 secs and your battery should last for about 2 days or longer. I tried it on 3 different HD2 with WP7 and it worked perfect
I know it sounds stupid but don't judge it before trying it !!!!
If you try this pleas let me know if it works with your HD2 too

Hi
I ask if i remove the battery or i charge the phone
should i make this again or not
thank you
hi
The trick works untill you reboot your phone or change battery. Then you have to do it once again.Thats it.
The only solution that worked for me amongst all the options (based on my experience)
1. Tried the camera trick - NOT WORKED
2. Followed the steps below - NOT WORKED
* Boot the phone to MAGLDR
* Select "Reset" option from the menu
* Phone reboots normally
3. Hard reset the phone - NOT WORKED
4. Charge the phone in magldr USB storage option - NOT WORKED
5. Finally, flashed the 2.12 radio, did the camera trick (not sure if its relevant). The battery life has improved dramatically. It lasts more than 24 hours and still running (26% left) - WORKED.
Follow the thread below to download the 2.12 radio

my experience not good with 2.12... draining battery is improved with 2.12 on my device.... in stand by battery drain is 40% in 6 hours... with 2.15 is much better for me...
Thanks OP, will try this.
I read that SD cards are the main cause of battery drain.
I have changed the radio from 2.15 ---> to 2.12 , Better sound better signal , Battery but we have for sure a bit of duration improvement not something extraordinary though .
BUT !!! i Have experienced something else.
I have bought a Chinese battery 1650 Mah and i left the battery drain completely.
(you need to be careful with that point cause after the windows will not start if no power !!!) and then the battery can charge (from the HTC official charger) only up to 60% and it lasts more than one 1 day simple doing nothing on the phone . With normal use lasts only max Half day.
But when i charge the phone to Pc or rapid travel charger the battery completes the full 100% capacity .I Believe that this has to do with the software & battery that do not recognize probably the full capacity,
Keep in mind that if the battery is charged up to 60% with the official charger I gain better duration than 100% charging from PC.
…still a big mystery the battery on mango !!!!
Thank you very very very very very very much i'm gonna try it
Good !!!!!!
Different radios never worked for me so I just stuck with 2.15.
Indeed hard to believe, but the video trick helped! Before the Battery was down in about 10 hours, now 8 hours passed and still 75% capacity. Thanks very much!
German HD2 from O2 with mango 8107.79, followed this thread installing it with xboxmods autoupdate. Great work, actually much easier than installing most commercial software packages! ;-)

[Q] Battery Status / Lifetime at Pdaimatejam ROM

Hi Guys!
I have flashed my HD with Pdaimatejam ROM, this rom is awesome! But I have one question:
Every time I made a hard reset, my battery status show about 1 day and 10 hours of lifetyme in 100% of charge.
After 5 or 6 days, HD2 shows about 20hours in 100%. and so on...
This happened also in ROM HD2O I had installed few months ago!
This is normal? Or a radio problem?
Radio Version: 5.51.09.29_22.32.50.10u
Thanks!

The estimation is based on your current consume ....
I think is more relevant to monitor your real battery drainage using a dedicated application like "Battery Status" or "BatteryTool".

Yes, i know, but i dont changed nothing in my use...
How i can control with Battery status or Battery tool?
Hi!
WP has to "learn" how you use it so the first week or two you'll notice the battery status changing a lot It is practically unusable so I would recommend (like mentioned above) that you install battery status or the htc battery tool. You can find the xap-files on the forum if you do a little searching ;-) As an alternative you could look on marketplace - there are a few apps out there for the purpose!
If you need help to figure out how they work - just ask! :-D
/Anders
Hi Anders!
Thank you for your kindness in quote! I downloaded the battery tool, and from what I understand it only shows the percentage of the battery, right?
Also downloaded the HTC battery tool, it shows me some more accurate data, but do not know how to use them, you could help me to improve?
I noticed that my HD2 spends too much power in standby (like 4 or 5 percent at hour without use, with 3g, wifi, localize and more off), is there any way to minimize this?
Thanks so much!
hug
Sergio
ps: sorry my bad english, im Brazilian!
Hi again!
No worries about your english - understand perfectly ;-)
You are right about the battery app from the marketplace only shows the voltage and percentage remaining. Its nice for your startpage but other than that not that usable.
The HTC battery app on the other hand gives you a great deal of info! What you have to look for is battery current. It should be between 5 and 10 when you have had the phone on standby for some minutes with the settings you describe...
Anything else you would like to know?
/Anders
Sorry to be asking me all the time, but you are helping me right! Thank you!
I installed the tool for HTC battery, the tests and did as you instructed me! it shows the values of -80 to -100: |, is this normal?

drainage and heating is not connected only to those settings, i got on mine all that turned on, + mail sync ewery 30 minutes, and battery lasts ower 24 hours with normal day usage (surfing on 3G is most intense on battery for me)
Its hard to say what is causing high battery drainage, because for me first it was SD card, so after I changed it ewerything was good for day or two, than my screen broke (tough luck) and while i was fixing it, i used an old iPhone which broke my sim card (more tough luck) in way that celular data didnt work, and that caused teriblle drainage when I fixed HD2. So after replacing sim card it was ok again (2+ days on batery saver prediction, but usualy lasts for day and half).
p.s. I use yuki-xbmod rom on adata 8gb C4 sd card

if I let those things turned on, my battery life is halved, this may not be the main but I think it works, right?
I'm using a SD SanDisk's 16GB class 6, once wore a sandisk 8gb class 4 and nothing has changed about the battery life .. it's not strange?
Does the capacity of the SIM influences that too? there are various SIMs sizes right? mine is very old: D
That does sound strange I must say :-( Could you try to turn on flight-mode, let it rest for 30 mins or so and then check the batterystatus again? Then at least we can tell if the radio is draining the phone or not!

I always turn of localization and sometimes use 3g. My data is always on. Am using a 16 SanDisk card. I don't know the problem. Am thinking of doing a task29 and reflashing the rom. Do I have to repartition the size in Magldr? And can u plz give me simple steps in doing it because I will be using hd2 toolkit and that will be my first time. Thank you...
