Anyone having trouble installing latest mortplayer (3.31 RC6)? I had an older version installed, tried uninstalling it, resetting, erasing relevant registry entries, deleting all mortplayer directories, removed my button mapping to morplayer, tried installing to card and device, tried cab and installer from pc. Nothing seems to work.
It just stops after one bar pops up on the installation progress and says it cannot be installed.
Any thoughts on how to get it to work?
Thanks!
It installed w/o problems on my Wizard (see my AVRCP compatibility matrix at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279459 ).
The best way is backing up your device, making a hard reset and, with SKTracker (the trial version will work fine), find out what other registry entries / files may cause the problem. Then, just restor your backup and get rid of these additional files / reg entries.

Since i bought the dopod818Pro,i have experienced a few installation problems...
1.)I installed Battery Pack Pro,Installed perfect.....found out it was the old version, uninstalled and tried installing the latest one....Unsuccessful whether i select device memory or storage memory.....Couldn't get the latest to install no matter what i tried......Had to hard reset to install again.
2)Installed resco explorer and tried installing resco audio player....again same problem :x
Anyone out there that could help with the installations....I guess it is an inherent WM5 OS problem
Many problems with WM5 install, uninstall.
I think this may help:
+ If you get installation error, do a soft reset your device, than install the program again.
+ If you get uninstall error, agree when being asked to remove the entry from the list. Re-install the program, then try remove it again.
I have had many pocket PC's and the Universal w/WM5 is the only one that gives me consistant installation problems. I had listpro 3.0 installed in program memory. I uninstalled it with the intent of re-installing it on the SD card. Unchecking it from activesync did nothing. Removing from the ppc directly told me that all of the file were not removed. I saw the the folder still existed in program files, do I deleted the directory and shortcuts pointing to it. I have had this exact same problem MANY times
Am I the only one with this problem? I don't find any messages like this.
Next, I try to reinstall listpro and it won't reinstall :x I get a message cannot be installed, try another location (which does not work). Do I need a hard reset? I tryed installing another program and I can still install other stuff, but the removal did not work again.

Hi Gary!
I have a lot of experience in this sh*t. WM5 cannot uninstall or install in a lot of cases. Usually if you still have some files or folders which are on the same location than with the installation, installer says: cannot install. In that case you have to delete (or rename) the folder left, and then you can install it. In other cases installer stays in a loop install condition, and cannot continue. In that case try to install another application to finish somelooped order. I realised another thing, which is very interesting: when you want to uninstall a program, and your pda says it cannot be removed - or something -, if I run Vijay555 killphone application in 98% of the cases after it I can uninstall the same.
I hope this wil help!
Hi,
Perhaps I have been lucky but I havent had any issues with regards to installing or uninstalling programs.
I do make sure that I soft reset before and after - so maybe thats a golden rule!
Matt
Yes, softreset would be a good tip in more cases, but it wouldn't solve the problem when you want to install a program which needs a place what exists.
I did find some files in the windows directory and deleted them. That WORKED. Just doing program files is not enough. In this case, the file name was the same as the program. I don't expect to be that lucky all the time.
I have done soft-resets when it does not work. I do a number of trial programs and tend to forget prior to removal. What a apin
Got to love Microsoft - reboot is the answer to everything.
Installation problems.....
I am having the same problem too.
Even after a hard reset when I try and install Sprite Backup & Agenda Fusion I keep getting the install error: 'cannot be installed, try another location'
It's driving me up the wall! I would have thought after a hard reset this wouldn't be an issue. I'm now the proud owner of an MDA Pro (Universal) that I can't use because the software I want to install won't install.
Can anyone help me please?
Help is needed. I tried to install PocketStocks this morning. It would not install and now I can not install or delete anything from my 8125. I can run what is on it, but I can not add or remove anything. I have soft reset and tried multiple times to connect by USB but it will not sync. But it will let me "Explore" my hardware.
The Microsoft Active Sync troubleshooter is no help at all.
Any ideas?

Hi i am familiar with pocketstocks but it looks like it buggered your device. What error message came up and how far into the install did it get? Just wondering are there any residual files to remove - check program files and windows\startup and registry if you are used to doing that. What error comes up when you try to install anything? You may need to backup important files and do a hard reset to solve this.
I had tried to install Pocket Financial Analyzer just before it, and that did not complete the install. So when I did the Pocket Stocks, it finished up by saying that PFA install was unsuccessful. I have had this happen before but a soft reset and reinstall usually made it work. I kind of do not think Pocket Stocks is the culprit.
I suspect that there is a corrupted system file, and maybe if I knew which one it was, I could delete it and a soft reset would rebuild the file.
Or like you said, I may have to do a hard reset and start all over. And that is OK. I have done this about five times before, but everything is working so good on the phone right now, that I hesitate to mess that up. I just can't add or delete any programs.
Its so weird, at first the name of my phone would not come up. Then I deleted Active Sync 4.1 and installed AS 4.2 beta. Now I can get the device name to show up, but still the list of installed programs does not show and I can't sync it.

I agree there probably is a corrupt file somewhere - I would do all the checks I said and notification queue for good measure - but it looks like hard reset time. Recommend you invest in spb backup or sprite backup - then it all becomes so easy! Everybody that joins this forum should have to buy one - before entering the forum - lol!
I had SPB Backup trial. But everyone was saying that the ROM upgrades made the backup invalid since there were registry changes that may not correspond with the new registry.
So I did not use it again. I heard that SKTools has a backup built in. NO?
Which one is the best to use?
Thanks

Sktools has a limited backup, so its not that useful. Sprite backup is good as you can use it even with a rom upgrade and is now wm5 compatible.
I have Cingular 8125 version of Wizard, running default ROM from Cingular right when 8125 was released last year.
I'm having a re-ocurring problem of not being able to install certain apps. In some cases the first time I install something it works okay, but can't install a new version later.
These apps are ones I've had trouble with and curently cannot install:
-mortplayer
-mortscript
-slider lock
-teletype GPS
Here are things I've tried in various combinations
-checked for sufficient space on storage card or ram
-un-install app, then re-install
-install to storage card or system ram
-reset device
-install via "cabinstl" program
-install from pc setup.exe
-install directly from .cab on device
-even tried a complete hard / factory reset and installed some of the apps as first time ok, but mortplayer was one that I couldn't install on a fresh factory reset
Anyone else having problems like this? I've seen a couple comment's on mort's board of others having problems but no resolution.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
no one else has problems then
have you tried re-download mortplayer cab and try to install it? i have come across the same problem and the corrupted cab file was the reason. i think it get corrupted while i'm transferring it to the sd card. so sometime i just download directly to my wizard.
Ya, I've tried several different vesrions over past 6 months. Just tried downloading latest cab directly to phone and installing it to Device memory...
"Mort's MortPlayer" cannot be installed
Thanks!
i use to have a problem like this.
Then i download "CabViaActiveSync" and i have no problems installing any programs. works like a charm. Try it see if it fixes your problem. Search for it . its free.
I think the issue is worth a new thread since the M2D thread is getting way to bloated with other issues (display, lines missing etc.)
There are several suffering this problem after installing to M2D version 18 and it seems no to be 100% ROM and device related but definitely points to DSM files.
In one thread for a Touch (if memory servers right) deleting 6fb415....DSM helped.
Surprisingly enough after hard reset I installed EVERYTHING prior M2d update 18 and all worked so I guess it's not the ROM as stated above.
Suggestions solutions for the ones used to sync to the corporate server without going back to upgrade 13 or 14 (hard reset again ).
Edit and steps to a solution:
Some may experienced the same problems with sync errors with various ROMs after installation of the latest Manila update (version 18 in this thread.
I had the same issue 80004005 and "motisu" made me aware of a version 1.0 created by "xplode" which can be found here.
Steps to solve the issue WITHOUT hard reset:
Install SKTools (Memmaid may also work but I didn't test it)
Disable M2D
Soft Reset
Uninstall the Manila2D cab using the regular uninstall.
Soft Reset
Run SKTools Clean
Mark at least the DSM entry found (better mark all) to delete the entries
Soft Reset
Run SKTools again and check that the DSM entry is gone (if not clean ll again)
Soft Reset
Install Manila2D_1.00_1819.2926-xplode.CAB from the xplode link above
Soft Rest
Disable M2D in settings - today
Check if active sync works
Enable M2D in settings - today
Reconfigure it like you like it using M2DCT
Only issue is that xplode removed the Youtube link in the Internet tab (I can live with that) but Youtube still works (what the heck put it in the Launcher widget).
I don't want to state that for a NEW install the xplode-CAB is better but I'll keep it in case I reflash my phone with the same ROM.
Good Luck
